There's actually a few animal masks in the code as well. I'm not sure of their function, but I was able to spawn them a few months back. (And even if they did operate as gask masks, would that really be a big difference? It's basically the comparison between having a nuke op looking like a nuke op and having a nuke op looking like a monkey. Neither will be particularly inconspicuous.)

So where exactly within lore do major powers (hulk, tk, wallhack, coldresist) fit? Are they something that is widely known (and if so why is NT researching them every round, and why isn't every sentient being in Tau Ceti a telekinetic hulk already?), or are they a brand new discovery (and if so should everyone pretend to be really, really surprised every round that they get found?)

Chameleon jumpsuits can be used for infiltration (well, to a degree, they're sorta shit with the sechud existing), while masks can... pretty much only be used for swag points. And I have no idea if you can use animal masks to filter out gases (if so lol), but the ops already do start out with fully working gas masks for free, so your point is a bit moot. However, if you're simply saying chameleon suits should be free, then... I guess? Sure. I always wanted clown ops anyway.

Is this video correct, and are we proof?

Imo the OP's video cherrypicks a lot. Most of the negative examples cited come from Eastern games (and a lot of very dated ones as well), while completely ignoring recent portrayals of both camp and unassuming LGBT characters in Western media I found honestly very enjoyable. (Both the ridiculous and 100% serious ones.) Anyway, I'll say this about LGBT characters/individuals. I don't think LGBT stereotypes are an essential part of being gay/lesbian/trans/etc. You can have them, or you can not have them. Basically, they can help define someone, but often one of your favorite characters or actors might turn out to be gay and there's absolutely no particular indication of it besides the fact that they say they're gay or start dating dudes. I would assume most of SS13's SSLs fall into the latter category, if only because lesbian stereotypes aren't particularly well known (they do exist, though. Look up butch and femmes, for starters.) Furthermore, a lot of people roleplaying girls-who-like-girls mainly do it because they are interested in their characters having romantic interactions with girls, not because they wanna be part of the LGBT lifestyle. So you're not gonna see a lot of people play up LGBT stereotypes in HRP. Is that a bad thing? Well, characters simply being homosexual isn't exactly a problem. But sometimes I wish people would play up these stereotypes more because I don't think they're intrinsically bad or tasteless, and they do represent a very interesting part of all the various personality traits we'll get to encounter in life. Anyway, I've personally never seen someone in our game get excessively annoyed at characters simply for being lesbians (played by men or not). The other accompanying traits (drama-oriented, neglectful, selfish, discriminatory, clique-driven) seem to be the primary cause for this stereotype. And I think if your characters engage in all the other things described above, people kinda have a right to hate them and be wary of their group. It doesn't mean any of the hate is directed at LGBT folks in general. In the end, I dunno if people don't play them because they don't want to risk being politically incorrect, or because they're simply not interested, but I just wish we had more camp gay characters. -

Tajarans as heads of staff is kinda amusing, but if that's the general trend I might suggest (non-ironically) to turn Aurora into a Tajaran station instead of a human one.

Staff included :T You guys should really be focusing on the actual complaint (the wording of the warning) rather than dogpiling on the OP and I feel ashamed having to tell you this.

Well, I for one definitely wish SS13's aliens were more... alien. I'd like to hear what every Tajaran and Unathi player thinks defines their races. I think the answers would be interesting.

Tajarans are in an interesting spot. They have very rich lore - they have a intricate, 1920s dieselpunk-themed society complete with ultraconservative values, as well as the complex issues of their very own Russian peasant revolution (backed by NanoTrasen, coming coming with your very own opposing front of rebel nationalists). I'm assuming Tajaran players are aware of it, at the very least. (Plus the Tajaran caretaker, Sue, releases some really neat graphical updates to support Tajaran lore development every once in a while.) Yet, it's not something you see having any major impacts in-game. Why is that? I frankly don't know. Is it "easier" to RP submissive kitty waifus? Probably. But while the old lore was very character and roleplay-based, the current one seems to be more oriented on their background and culture. They're definitely more human, and have "lost" a few of their unique traits (whether these traits were good or not is another debate, however.) Personally, I'm neutral - I like aliens that have a unique and extensive background, but I also think it'd be great if some really big social and character differences came with it.

Wait, really? In my time as an admin we were quite willing to help whoever was interested to hold events. The main problem used to be that so few seemed to be interested, or even knew this was an option.

BYOND Key: FFrances Staff BYOND Key: VikingPingvin Reason for complaint: Being overly confrontational, adopting an "Us vs. Them" mentality, and displaying overall poor judgement. Evidence/logs/etc: It's pretty hard to give file and categorize every incident I have under an exact tag, but I'll try my best to do so here. I've tried to write this entire complaint as neutrally as possible; there is no intent to be patronizing, but do consider the events I present here are presented under a bad light because they are things I consider bad. I have no intent to belittle or ridicule anyone involved. Exhibit A: Exhibit B: Exhibit C: Additional remarks: The incidents between me and Viking aren't the target of this complaint; rather, his general demeanor is. I personally have no opinion of Viking whatsoever (negative or positive, save for the fact that I think what he has done is the mark of a poor admin). I'm not mad at him, I don't really care what he thinks of me, and I haven't even had to interact with him in the past month (but I was waiting for the mod trials to end before bringing this up as mod applications have a history of being denied for being involved in drama). My issue relates more to a kind of moderating where I feel like people don't really think about what they're doing. They develop grudges against users because they feel like that's the right thing to do, they get mad at people when they should be trying to solve problems with them, and so on. As a mod, I was essentially taught by the admins to rule with an iron fist and it's what I see a lot of people continue to do to this day. There's honestly a problem when your default stance is to assume your users are against you and that you need to either scare or beat people into following the rules. I'm not saying all staff are like this but some of them are.

I understand this is a figure of speech, but there's probably better words for you to use than "destroy the enemy" when referring to your users. Because lmao Anyway, err, not to tell you how to do your job (as Jenna seems keen on reminding me), but the OP is asking to have the warning rephrased. Shouldn't you post some sort of opinion on that? I believe that point's gone sorta missed so far.

Well, yolo-C4ing anything is sorta bad out of principle. We're HRP after all. I don't think it's a sin, but if people wanna do it a warning seems like a fair punishment. Anyway, the issue here is the wording of the warning/note. AFAIK.

It doesn't mean you should try to placate someone solely for wanting to discuss a judgement. I'm under the impression this person doesn't understand why they're being punished, and instead of trying to provide an explanation some of you are taking it as a direct attack on the authority of the staff. Like, a simple "no, you don't break character to test game mechanics" would've been sufficient, along with a quick explanation of why this was bad (that some people *could* run into it at EoR, and that it's generally a blanket rule because it's easier than to have to analyze every case of people fucking around for fun.) It's pretty obvious the OP did this out of curiosity, and I don't see why they need to be called a liar or be informed they're "lucky to have only gotten a warning". Edit: Upon rereading the thread, the OP seems to be simply requesting the warning be reworded to take into account the context as to avoid it being confused with intentional grief in the future - which seems like a reasonable request.
