[ACCEPTED] Item Application for John Sol
Shimmer replied to DatSamTho's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Hello! Thank you for the application. After seven intense weeks (nights AND days) of discussion with the lore administration team, we have decided that you need more sprites before we can accept this application. We thank you for the understanding! -
I think there might be some confusion here because of how the military page is worded. (https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Solarian_Armed_Forces#Notable_Navy_Forces) There are two naval forces that use 'the 1st', we have the 1st Battlegroup which is a force based out of Sol, initially comprised of mostly Lunans until Courtois' reforms added fleets like the 25th to this battlegroup, doubling it in size. Then there is the 1st middle ring battlegroup, which is Szalai's force and went on to form the SSMD which alongside the provisional government formed the reconstruction mandate. The 1st marine division serves the 1st battlegroup, made up of primarily Lunan working class, "Its marines are primarily recruited from the Lunan working class and are generally looked down upon by the upper and middle class Lunans which serve as the 1st Battlegroup’s officers", they have nothing to do with the 1st MRB.

2 dismissals Add 1-2 round-start corpses to the morgue
Shimmer replied to NerdyVampire's topic in Archive
Don't do this as a character that likes animals obviously lmao But outside of that no, those monkeys specifically serve the purpose of being butchered for organs, teach interns, and practice, they're not pets and so killing them won't get you in trouble. -

Depends on what you are practicing, organ transplants don't require damage, organ repair might require you to inject the monkey with plant be gone (toxin + water), bone repair will require you to punch or wrench or hammer or somehow break the monkey's bones. Arterial honestly the same, knife the monkey until you get a bleed. I don't imagine it's any different to using a protohuman, safe for the fact that monkeys move around which can be infuriating. -

You can also practice on cube monkeys, which the OR contains a full box of. Functionally there is no difference. -
CampinKiller - Human Lore Deputization
Shimmer replied to CampinKiller's topic in Developer Applications Archives
Heyoooooo! A ton of luck on your app!! Since the Alliance got mentioned, and is quite a biiig part of human lore, I'll ask you the same questions I asked botanist if a little modified. What direction do you wish the Alliance would take, in terms of government, treatment of outsiders and outside powers (Primarily, Coalition, Elyra, Biesel), especially as it pertains to to the CRZ and the secession of Konyang? What do you believe the reaction of the Alliance should be? Furthermore, assuming elections do occur, which direction would you like to see the Alliance pulled ideologically? You've mentioned that the Alliance would like to see some form of referendum / favorable deal when it comes to Konyang, however, what would be it's aims and goals towards other Coalition member states? Would it continue to seek out reapprochement with Xanu? Continue it's special relationship with Galatea? One thing I'd be really interested to see is an expansion on Mars post violent dawn and post re-conquest by the Provisional government. Do you feel like Mars should get any attention in regards to its newfound situation, say, an expansion on whether or not the Alliance attempts some form of reconstruction effort, similar to the one done to Earth through contracts with Zeng-Hu? And expansion on what life is like post dawn? A bunch more luck to you!! -
Botanist's "Human Lore Deputy" Application
Shimmer replied to rrrrrr's topic in Developer Applications Archives
I haven't had pretty much any interactions with you, however, since you do bring up Sol as one of your points of interest in human lore, I'd love to hear yours thoughts/plans on a few questions. I'm not really sure if it's appropriate for any player to ask questions, but these are just curiosities I have, if I'm doing something wrong just poke me with a stick lmao. Canonically kill Pun Pun and replace him with a capybara

So do we remove Ginny and Ives? They're novelty animals. -

I'd rather not because Pun-Pun is boring and deserves to finally be ousted. Capybaras are cooler than monkeys. -

We have dogs, a fox, and a cat shoved in what is a tiny cramped office, the dogs are locked inside of a small glass cage until they are let go, none of the pets make sense, at all. I don't think a capybara is all that much of a stretch here, come on, the pun is excellent. -
One thing I personally note, and it's all personal opinion, is that Aurora has too much of a reliance on high intensity / high stakes events to me. While I have not participated in the event personally due to scheduling issues, I likely wouldn't have either way because I don't enjoy events in which the crew is in imminent danger and people are getting killed. I personally enjoy events in which there are no ship-destroying-stakes, that aren't combat heavy and are an environment for the crew to come together and explore a new environment, while allowing them to develop their relationships with each other. This is the service main in me speaking, and I understand that high stakes events are necessary to add spice and to prevent stagnation, but I think the medium of mini-arcs / mini-events are a perfect medium for no-intensity events, something akin to the New Gibson event during the KoTW arc.

Slightly polished up, Solarian flag added. Can include the krita file for editing layers if need be. Rose has done *the* work to make it into various in game sprites, I have no idea how to PR stuff like that in so I would be happy for an explanation (assuming this is accepted)
-
Thank you, I will add the Solarian flag to my proposal until I can come up with an alternative, which will come in another app with redesigns of some other flags. Where would be an appropriate place to see whether the team approves of a symbol or not, or has any advice, outside of canon applications?
-
Understood, I've been meaning to redesign some of the flags that have started to show their age, would using a common symbol integrated into those flags be considered for a replacement of the canton flag?
-
Hello! Thank you for the reply! Would it be possible to create a different thread to contest this policy? From my point of view, the Solarian canton flag greatly clashes and ruins the balance of existing designs, like that of Visegrad and (soon) San Colette. If I were to explain my point of view in a different thread, to have them ultimately removed / replaced, where should I go to?

Honestly why limit it just to psychiatry? Thinking too small too small All of medical will undergo rapid slimification that way antags can never hurt us

The lore page for the moon is one of the shorter one's so there really isn't much mentioned color wise. However, black and white are picked both because they contrast well, and because that is what your average Lunan will see pretty much all the time. The planet is tidally locked, as such it has a period where the sky is dominated only by the sun, and a period where its completely dark safe for stars (and if you're on the light side, the Earth). The blue is meant to represent Earth, blue is the color associated with it ("The blue marble), while gold represents the sun. They're both colors of the Solarian flag, meant to symbolise belonging to it.
-
I intentionally avoided placing the Solarian flag in the corner for a few reasons: 1. It doesn't add anything significant, it simply marks a flag as belonging to Sol, which in my opinion isn't worth point 2... 2. It utterly destroys the aesthetic of the flag, Liberian County flags are made fun of in part because of the decision to add the state flag in the corner. They're all of inconsistent sizes, heavily heavily clash with the original flag while serving no meaningful symbolic purpose that hasn't been already achieved. 3. Whoever made the flag for San Colette understands this, which is why they didn't add it to the flag, in spite of the fact that San Colette is a Solarian state. I would personally prefer to not have the flag at all rather than having the Solarian flag on it, it ruins it that much for me. Its atrocious.

Added by sparky in a recent pr, can a mod please close this?

Lore Impact (Small/Medium/Large): Small Species: Human Short Description: A flag for Luna, one of the two planets in Sol that don't have one. How will this be reflected on-station?: A new flag that can be used. Does this addition do anything not achieved by what already exists?: A flag for a planet that doesn't have one. Do you understand that the project may change over time in ways you may not foresee once it is handed over to the Lore Team? I understand. Long Description: There isn't much to describe here, Luna never had a flag, I like the planet, so I went out of my way to make one. I asked Rose to sprite it and she did, bless her heart. The blue is supposed to be a representation of Earth, while the gold represents the Sun, the black is for space (in a literal meaning and representing space) The crescent represents Luna itself, it's orientation is meant to be reminiscent of the headpiece of the Greek goddess Selene, and her Roman counterpart Luna. Here is the sprite made by Rose(StevIII), I will poke her to make a PR to add it assuming this is approved.

Some sort of indication would be helpful! Perhaps a red/green indicator somewhere at the wheels or on the body itself.

Add a feature wherein alt pressing a gurney would lock it in place and prevent it from being moved, essentially wrenching it down mechanically. It's extremely easy to bump into them whenever there is the slightest amount of lag, which can mess with IVs or treatment and can be generally annoying. In chaotic rounds, with mass casualties, the medbay becomes overcrowded and as a result a lot of gurneys are pushed around, which just causes confusion and annoyance, locking them in place will help immensely with organising patients and generally with triage.

That came across harsher than I meant, I apologise. What I mean is that I don't really see the argument here, I think it's a better idea to just let physicians do chemistry and keep the roles as is, so that physicians can use the in game chemistry codex to make the chems they absolutely need (hence, common sense), and much like engineers leave atmos to atmos techs when they are on, so should physicians leave chems to pharmacists when they are on. Mind, a similar dichotomy to what we have in engineering already exists in medical as is, Atmos techs are soft expected to know how to set up power for the ship, pharmacists are soft expected to treat people when no one else is available to do so, it's just that in medical it doesn't go both ways. I still support a merge just on the grounds that it's a marginal improvement over what we have right now, but keeping roles, slots etc etc as is and just letting physicians do chemistry both keeps pharmacist as a role and allows medical to function properly without one.
