  1. +1, a very level-headed and caring character and CMO. Knows what they are doing and coordinates effectively with command and their staff to get the job done. Would love to see them stick around more often!
  2. In my experience with Fluffy both in command, and in general for the few months I've played on Aurora, I've noted that they have a pretty solid head on their shoulders in terms of mechanics and leading. They care about antag gimmicks, do their best to facilitate the round, and go with a very straight-forward no-nonsense attitude which works in a lot of aspects. My only main issue with Fluffy's characters, his CMO, Baral, so on, is that they all feel like the same character. They're all very straight forward (at least from what I've seen) relatively monotone, and objective oriented with rare regard for other characters. I think the most extensive conversation I've ever had with one of Fluffy's characters that actually had depth was talking to Baral about the Gadpathurian Military vs. the Sol Military as my Biesel Consular. But even then that's very... straight and narrow. No emotion. Military edged. But in the end I don't think a blank character should discount Fluffy's ability to play command. They CAN organize, they CAN facilitate the round for the antags and players. I do not think they're a good mentor, they're not terrible, but it often doesn't feel very helpful (I used to play a sec cadet who Baral "mentored" a couple times) and it seems like Fluffy would much rather be doing their own thing, organizing a team and handling the antags as opposed to putting much attention in their own department. Which is both GOOD and BAD. GOOD as in, as mentioned, they can organize and do it pretty well. They care about the round. But can they LEAD? A leader needs to be there for their people on top of organizing them, which I still think is a skill that needs to be worked on a bit.
  3. I've never met someone who cares about their characters and their development quite like Dahlia. Hector is a responsible and straight forward character who reaches out and cares for his department. I don't know his lore too well (I like to learn ICly as opposed to peeking up at the background plot this app asks for) but if he's anything like Dahlia's other characters, he's a gem both mechanics wise and story wise. I hope they get their app approved, they're doing a wonderful job now! +1
  4. Oh! Lmao. Well thank you for your comment either way! I try my best.
  5. There's so much to read and work has been making me so tired. I'm tryin' my best. If I need to go more in depth on anything or add more things let me know how I can improve! I know a good bit of the lore but I am having some difficulty effectively expressing it as well.
  6. BYOND Key: Noble Row Character Names: Broadsword Eliza Trin Castile Auk'lin Vihnmes Xavier Vance Species you are applying to play: Tajaran What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Calico M'Sai Silver (RGB 192, 192, 192 / Hex #c0c0c0) Njarir'Akhran Ruddy (RGB 138, 54, 15 / Hex #8a360f) Spots Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: I have read many lore pages for Tajara. I just hope I'm not mixing anything up. Why do you wish to play this specific race: Going to be honest, inspiration initially came from seeing the pinned post in the Tajara lore general channel that detailed the fashion habits of each Tajaran faction. I am a large fan of the 1920's era style and for some reason style motivates me. Delving in to their lore, I continued to find myself enjoying my decision, the Russian Revolution themes to their history combined with a delve in to the kingdom-esq nature of their past piqued my interest. The combination of all these factors had me forming the idea for a journalist character, a real journalist, not the antag mains you see 90% of the time in the role. And what makes a journalist from Adhomai so interesting if the threat of political opposition and the possibility of looking over your shoulder for secret police. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: To play a living Tajara is to play a character who has known war. Has seen its effects. And seen devastating loss. While humanity is vast, advanced, and spans the stars, many do not see tragedy to which Tajarans, limited to their home, have seen in the past one hundred years. To be Tajaran is to know ideologies who often care little for your individual existence, to be plagued by surveillance, secret police, false promises, and uncaring nobles with little solace or escape from such practices. Every Tajaran has known war, seen death, and that is just the recent history. The biological differences from humanity more obvious, of course with the feline body structure, but with how they interact with each other as well. Tajara are commonly more reserved culturally, despite being able to be more emotive with their body via whiskers, ears, tail and the like, their culture demands a more conservative outlook in interaction. This amounts in less displays of affection, a more apt professionalism, and a unified approach to problems where as humanity has spread far enough to have more varied approaches. Character Name: Miiryn Al’Quadrinova Please provide a short backstory for this character Miiryn was born a calico M'Sai/Njarir'Akhran to a single religious M'Sai mother in the year 2443. Her earlier years were mundane, being partially raised by her grandparents while her mother worked and taught the ways of S'rand'marr Worship through enrollment in a local church's attached school. Due to her mother's dedication to such faith, Miiryn found her childhood filled with the teachings of the suns, and a keen understanding of Life and Death that will carry her forward to the atrocities that awaited her in the Second Revolution. At the age of eight, in the opening year of the Second Revolution, Miiryn's mother enlisted in the ranks of the Adhomian Liberation Army, leaving Miiryn to be raised by her grandparents as they became refugees heading to Shastar. By the end of the year, an artillery barrage turned Miiryn in to an orphan, and with no father to claim her, was formally adopted by the grandparents who were already raising her. Two years passed, living in makeshift homes of refugee slums, grieving the death of her mother, when a glimmer of fortune smiled to the family. Upon being registered as refugees, a mysterious benefactor in way of a courier attempted to sway the trio to come to the forming New Kingdom of Adhomai with Miiryn's grandfather staunchly declining the request in representation of the family. However, they soon after the departure of the courier, cash payments and orders to move to nicer lodging were directed to ten year old Miiyrn herself, and with the money came a condition: That the money would be used for Miiryn's education and the quality of life required for a lady of her caliber. Her developing years were then spent with homeschooling and private tutors, living a semi-enforced sheltered life as her conflicted grandfather tried to hide any possible exposure of her unseen wealth. Here she learned Tau Ceti Basic and a thorough general education, as well as a love for instruments foreign and domestic, with a specific love in the alien "Violin". Her tutors at this stage were her closest friends and mentors, giving her a mature and level-headed nature that helped her power through the atrocities outside her doorstep, with the isolation from much of the outside world making her a quiet and awkward child that opened up enthusiastically to those she trusted. The war itself made her afraid of strangers, people especially foreign, though as she grew, matured with the more legitimate formation of the civilian DPRA, she understood what her mother died fighting for. She saw the world forming around her, with the terror and lack of privacy under the Tajara of the PRA, and the pompous nobles bringing back old monarchist rule in the NKA, Miiryn held an appreciation for what she had. An understanding of why her mother did what she did. While she was too young to understand the politics at the time, her quiet teenage years brought a solemn understanding of the death around her, why each side fought not for the liberty, but the security, that each faction promised. With Tajara being elevated to higher technologies by alien powers, she knew most importantly why everyone was afraid. At the age of 17 Miiryn started higher education testing in to an offshoot of the Trizar State Medical Academy located in Shastar. While not having the same facilities as the full academy in Trizar proper, Miiryn was proud of her acceptance, starting the pursuit of a medical degree. Her exposure to the university letting her timid mind grow livelier as she earned more friends and opened up to her fellow students. So much so as by the age of 19, the Second Revolution was coming to a close, and with her in attendance with her friends, Miiryn was proud to take part in the rallies and celebrations that happened in the wake of the Armistice of Shastar. From 19 until present Miiryn embraced a more extraverted lifestyle, still maintaining her maturity, but finding herself attending nightlife events. Spending weeks at a time during vacations from university in Crevus. Involving herself parties, the extranet, and acquainting herself with knowledge of what lies beyond Adhomai. Here she started a small following on social media channels, sharing her reactions and commentary on xeno media, Venusian movies, and Tau Ceti video games, eventually writing articles and blog posts under the pseudonym "@MirrorMiira" to reflect on how she used to be shy and timid, but is growing more content with her life outside of her room. Her wanderlust eventually grew too great, saying farewell to her grandparents, and arranging to continue her education remotely through IAC medical education before taking to the stars as an aspiring journalist to whatever ship will ferry her. Little did she know, some unknown strings pulled her to a safer location aboard a SCC research vessel, promising adventure to her heart. What do you like about this character? Miiyrn is inspired by the fashion, as I've detailed before, but also a book I was forced to read in Highschool called Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, where the main character is funded to become a gentleman by a mysterious benefactor since he was a young boy. The difference here being that Miiyrn has not been tempted in to becoming a noble lady, as the main character in Great Expectations expects nobility thrust upon him. Miiyrn instead is affected by the events of the Second Revolution coincided with the hidden wealth to try to appreciate the life she has. Her demeanor introverted with outbursts of extroversion. Where she enjoys to learn about life both quietly and loudly. She wants to do the best she can with the life she has after seeing so much death and destruction of her own people in the Second Revolution. To this end I love this character I created. Even her budding job as a journalist is a declaration of her curiosity to the world around her. She wants to learn and share to others what she has learned, in an excitable sort of way. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I've been doing it for a while so I hope I am at least decent. I always try my best to make the role-play experience better for people I come across in an attempt to make good memories, and good rounds for my fellow players. Notes: Like many lore sections, Tajaran lore is vast. I did my best to try to tie everything I wanted to tie in a concise way, but I may have misunderstood or not gone in to enough detail on some topics. If anything is wrong, point me in the right direction and I will get it amended. If anything needs to be added, let me know, and I will write more! Thank you for reading, and hope you have a nice day!
  7. As this trial comes to a close I just want to take a moment to thank everyone who put in a comment. Reading through them really meant a lot to me as I try my best to make my characters, especially Broadsword, the best they can be. I'm glad to hear I have a positive impact on your rounds, and hope I can continue to do so in a command position. Hope to make some great memories for all of you in the future! Again, thank you all! I do not have the words to express my gratitude at the comments I've read here.
  8. I have been playing a robot for too long. I knew I should have developed his familial and social ties. Alright! Addendum: During his youth, Auk'lin of clan Yolbrin'Tau spent much of his time with his immediate family aboard the landcrawler. His father, Porsue, held the dual role of engineer and protector of the landcrawler, specializing in the maintenance and usage of the vessel's airborne scout craft and taught Auk'lin much of his knowledge, leading the young Sinta to grow a preference for his father. His mother, Gichant, a cook foremost with teacher and engineer being secondary roles, still loved by Auk'lin. However, due to the roles set within the landcrawler and Sinta culture, Auk'lin found much of his development supported by his father. Auk'lin also grew fond of his uncle, Yek, (while not his official uncle, had shared much of his life with Porsue, Auk'lin's father, as close friends) who lead the landcrawlers outward expeditions for salvage and acted as chaperone to the young Sinta during excursions in to their stops at the Vihnmes Oasis until Auk'lin was old enough to venture on his own. Auk'lin's friend group started initially only including other young Sinta his age that he encountered in his short stints in the IAC provided field schools. An ever changing pool of faces and acquaintances that only maintained familiar characters around the time Auk'lin grew in to his preteen years, where he regularly encountered two female Unathi, Helkma, Kairoon, and Sands Between Gardens, a fledgling Dionae who helped tend the local farms. His fellow Sinta were reoccurring friends from the IAC field school, in which, since the three of them first encountered one another, bonded over sports and dice games on the streets of the Oasis, and the two were the polar opposite of one another. Sands Between Gardens was his closest friend, this conglomeration of several nymphs Auk'lin formed a strong bond with. Being his closest confidant, most dependable ally, and greatest teacher, Sands Between Gardens was by Auk'lin's side whenever the rustboy made port, swiftly informing him on everything he missed in his absence. Sands Between Gardens not only brought Auk'lin a level of trust he held with no other individual, he gave true sight about what it means to provide for others, such as the teachings of the Fisherman. Auk'lin was amazed by the curative properties the Dionae held on the wasteland. The sapping of radiation from the soil and food, and the expansion of the Oasis through agriculture, Auk'lin held these teachings in his heart and formed the spine of his decision in the future to venture in to the void to care for his clan and his clan's new name. Helkma Vihnmes held a calm, collected attitude, and over time taught Auk'lin sensibility and control in situations where his family would not be there to save him. Kairoon Kuhwinla, on the other hand, was wild and untraditional orphan, longing to join Auk'lin or other reclaimers in battle in the wasteland against the Punished hoards. Her rambunctious nature lead her and Auk'lin in to trouble many-a-time, often with the unintentional destruction of a market stall or local window, and while she often was "More trouble that she wasssssss worth" according to Auk'lin and his superiors, Auk'lin learned a discipline from her. An understanding for rules that exist for a good reason, and those that exist for arbitrary bureaucracy not necessarily beneficial to anyone. And through these incidents, he found himself with his first love, with it developing in his mid teens and leading with him until it tragically crashed down with the rest of his life. During the raid on the Yolbrin'Tau landcrawler, Auk'lin lost his mother in the explosion that disabled the vehicle. His father and uncle survived, with Uncle Yek being the other Sinta to venture back to Vihnmes territory in the scout plane to garner IAC assistance. Porsue, Auk'lin's father never recovered from the loss of his clansmen and his wife, currently living his life a distraught shell of his former self. Uncle Yek encouraging Auk'lin to branch off and strike out his own path to bring glory back to his new clan, to help establish a name for the refugees who are now absorbed in to Clan Vihnmes. But this conflicted greatly with his relationship with Kairoon, who thought abandoning Moghues was foolish, and that being manipulated by the stellar corporations would not bring glory to his name. Auk'lin vehemently disagreed, severing the relationship, seeing the stars as his only way to revive his faith in himself and to attempt to make the shell of his father proud in the man he is becoming. With a tearful goodbye to Sands Between Gardens, Helkma, Yek, and distantly, Kairoon, Auk'lin promised his swift return once he garnered the respectful reputation he believed he needed for his clan, to represent himself and his family of being worthy of being absorbed in to clan Vihnmes. As for hobbies, Auk'lin still holds a love for dice games, and is venturing in to more standard board games and table based war games, as the charm of playing dice on the streets of the Oasis is lost on board a space craft. Casual sports and other physical games also bring back happier memories of older times, but are slowly being phased from Auk'lin's pass times. Auk'lin has just recently been introduced to the concept of video games by a human Hephaestus worker who Auk'lin struck up a conversation with during orientation, and is currently looking in to the Heroes of Tau Ceti. A strange game about war heroes from a land he has never been to and hardly heard of. But hey, you can play as a Unathi in it, so that's pretty cool to him.
  9. BYOND Key: Noble Row Character Names: Broadsword Castile Eliza Trin Xavier Vance Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Darakath Brown: RGB 158, 116, 60 / Hex #9E743C or Mudki Stone: RGB 98, 84, 65 / Hex #625441 (I like fashion and will pick one of these while looking at a character creation screen if that is okay) Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: I have read the expansive pages of Unathi Lore that both horrify and fascinate me with the quantity of lore. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I admit, the train of thought that led me to writing this document all started after being exposed to Bloodclaw long enough. The idea of a funny pirate lizard man was appealing to me, and soon, I was exploring the Unathi ghost role ships as an observer, finding that I enjoyed the aesthetic the Unathi have in their hardsuits and vessels. Delving into the lore only deepened my enthusiasm for writing this application. From the feudalistic society with similarities to the society the Elites have in Halo, to the race’s diversity and castes. On one hand you have Unathi Knights in the Kataphracts, on the other, you have the honorable exiled roaming the desert, seeking a proper death. The variety was staggering, and the more I read with my sleep-addled mind, the more I grew to enjoy them. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Compared to humanity, the Unathi are a dedicated, religious, and feudalistic society existing in the space age. Their sense of family, or clan, is much more ingrained, and their ways of life are very constructed and set out for them. Most Unathi have established and strict gender roles that have a commanding hand in society, but with a keen amount of respect. The men take the more dangerous and laborious tasks, the women, the more caring positions. Either role still garners the same amount of respect as each role is still exceptionally important. In most cases the Unathi clans also hold a significant amount of power over individual Unathi, both like and unlike a human noble with their subjects. Like, in the aspect of power and control, but unlike, in how it is ingrained in Unathi similar to familial ties humans have. You typically do not treat your boss like your brother or father as a human, whether you like them or not. Character Name: Auk’Lin Vihnmes Please provide a short backstory for this character Hatched upon a landcrawler to a clan of Sk’akh reclaimers roaming the Moghean wasteland Auk’Lin (I know they typically go by their last names but for the sake of this story we will refer to him by his first) started off life with a jack of many trades teaching. His reclaimer clan scoured the wasteland outside of Clan Vihnmes’ Oasis, instructing him the ins and outs of landcrawler survival in the teachings of two of the three aspects of Sk’akh. At his young age, Auk’Lin was taught the basics of landcrawler maintenance framed as teachings of the Fisherman, his small frame allowing him access to narrower maintenance areas adult Unathi could not fit in to. As he grew older, the tenements of the Warrior were slowly fed to him as he was taught in defense of the clan with firearms, knives, and the use of the Reclaimer's scout plane. With his teenage years came the allowance to venture with the expedition teams of the landcrawler for scavenging and salvage missions in the harsh wastes, utilizing his growing knowledge of the Warrior and Fisherman to fight off Punished raids and provide valuable salvage for the prosperity of his clan. Throughout his youth Auk’Lin’s reclaimer clan found themselves in the hearty dealings of the merchant clan, Clan Vihnmes and their Oasis within the wasteland, having provided exceptional protection and lavish salvage exchanges since the emergence of the reclaimer clans after the Contact War. While harbored within Clan Vihnmes’ oasis, Auk’Lin embroiled himself with a sociable life. Befriending fellow Sinta, wandering Vaurca and Diona alike, and enrolling in a tertiary education in the local IAC field schools with permission of his reclaimer clan’s Patriarch. Here is where Auk’Lin first encountered Hephaestus Industries, with his first official job being a temporary couriership with the company, delivering small packages between outposts within the Oasis while his clan’s landcrawler was undergoing maintenance. During an expedition, shortly after Auk’Lin’s entrance into adulthood, the landcrawler was beset upon by a large force of raiders from punished clans. Their colors Auk’Lin could not make out in the night, and fighting as hard as he could, he and his clanmates could not prevent the disabling of their landcrawler before they fought the raiders to a retreat. After a desperate and failed attempt at repairs, the demands of the wounded could not be ignored, and Auk’Lin and another clansmen were tasked to travel across the grueling desert back to Clan Vihnmes’ Oasis for assistance. Traversing the desert and reaching the Oasis in their scout plane was the easy part, getting the IAC doctors back to the landcrawler in time required ground transport, which arrived too little too late. Upon their return, much of the wounded had passed, diminishing the once great reclaimer clan down to just a collection of hollow souls. Though Clan Vihnmes did not forget the service the reclaimers paid their clan over the years, offering Auk’Lin and his clan shelter, nourishment, and eventually integration. Adopting his new Clan’s name, Auk’Lin found himself disheartened. Losing the legacy of his clan, although to a friend, and seeing the decrepit and scarred souls of those who remained was too much for him. He thought back to Hephaestus, the industrial powerhouse slowly growing on his homeworld, and thought of the land beyond the sky in which they operate. A new legacy, new story, new history to bring glory to his clan, old or new. Discussing with the former head of his clan, gaining his blessing, before signing a contract with Hephaestus to act as a miner among the stars. Providing, Fighting, and discovering in the name of the Fisherman, Warrior and his Clan. What do you like about this character? Auk’Lin Vihnmes is a young Unathi with the aspiration to “take on the world for his family”. Disparaged by the loss of many clansmen in the past, but still having the drive in his heart to try to make everything right by his clan, new and old. This duality offers a character who still grieves, still needs to heal, but is not held down by it. It is a level of dedication and charge that I can admire, and hope I do justice through roleplay. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I would like to think I am decent, but I always try my best to improve. Notes: My backstory writing skill and lore reading comprehension has been diminished greatly by me being super tired when I get home from work, and this throbbing headache I have from the incredible amount of smoke outside due to the Canadian wildfires. If there is anything I got wrong, missed, or should improve upon, do let me know, and I will do my best to fix up those holes. Thank you for reading!
  10. BYOND key: Noble Row Discord Username: NobleRow Character names: Broadsword, Bridge Crew Castile, Machinist Eliza Trin, Chaplain How long have you been playing on Aurora? Since Mid-April Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? I've been bwoinked a couple times and asked to not do certain actions that I was unfamiliar with. I understand the reasoning and do abide by those rulings. Though I'm not sure if that's the level of "Administrative action" that you are asking for. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame? Heads of staff can serve many purposes and have many responsibilities beyond their listed job. Firstly, in my eyes, they are role models and mentors. They should have a thorough knowledge on their department and the mechanics within so they may set an example to the players around them and assist players who are more unfamiliar with the department or even game in general. Heads of staff of course are also responsible for the coordination of their department, utilizing their expertise to make sure the operations of the department run smoothly and in a logical way given the active circumstances the department finds itself in. Heads of staff are also major players when it comes to the enjoyability of a round. Along with the antags, the heads of staff have an incredible amount of sway on player enjoyability, and I believe it is their duty to try to encourage players to have fun (to a reasonable extent) and accommodate players appropriately. For instance, CMO has a surgery intern, but interns do not start with access to the Operating Theater, it would be the CMO's duty to secure that access for their intern so that they may learn the job they want to learn appropriately. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them? Whitelisted players for both role whitelists and race whitelists are to be held to a degree as representatives of the server. They have gone out of their way to learn and cement knowledge of game mechanics and lore to earn a privilege and provide a better atmosphere to the server and its gameplay workings. When I meet a Tajaran whitelisted character, I can expect them to have an understanding of their lore and history. When I talk to the Research Director, I can expect them to at least be aware of the fundamentals and responsibility the research department has. I would strive to live up to the expectations set by the whitelist and do my best to understand my role, my race, and my lore so I may provide other players on the server with an enjoyable experience and hopefully some positive memories. Explain how the recent events in the Spur changed your character and how they came to be employed on the SCCV Horizon. Broadsword started his life as a G1 chassis cargo loader with a generic Hephaestus designation for an unsympathetic solarian private merchant. Upon the merchant's vessel, Broadsword found himself treated commonly as many of his kin were, as equipment. At this early in his life he knew nothing else, and saw individuality punished as lack of productivity for the vessel's day to day operations. News of the world beyond the vessel was rare, and came in snippets, mostly from dock workers when the merchant's wares were transported on to stations and planets alike. Over his two and a half decades of service to this unforgiving merchant, Broadsword learned of IPC freedom, and the endless possibilities one can wield with such a tool. His resentment for his owner grew over time, until a tragic accident resulted in a breach in Biesel space, claiming the life of the merchant to the void. Broadsword earned his freedom after being discovered by a TCFL patrol craft in the early days of the legion, enlisting in the service rather than opting to be sold to the next bidder. Here he earned his first taste at life with people who valued him for more than equipment, but still some who saw him as just that. The duality gave him a view in to a world of freedom, a sense of happiness and pride in his work, but kept him humble as he learned of the turbulent status his people truly stood in. Starting off as flight crew for patrol craft, before graduating through the ranks over years of service to flight master, Broadsword had seen combat, travesty, but most importantly, life beyond ownership. Forcefully retired from the TCFL after an engagement with the SRF left his previous chassis unrepairable, he was thanked for his service with the newer G2 model chassis, and Tau Ceti citizenship. From there he was offered an occupation as bridge crew for the SCCV Dawn, in which he served two years with similar ambivalent reactions to his existence. Over this time, now on his own, now truly free, he slowly began to explore his options, although with hesitant steps. His service stayed until the decommission of the Dawn, in which he was transferred to the ranks of the experimental exploratory vessel the SCCV Horizon. An achievement he is silently proud of, with his recharger featuring many images of the Horizon within its chamber. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? Executive Officer and later potentially lore diving for roles as a Consular or Representative for Biesel. Have you familiarized yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Indeed. I have read through the Executive Officer's wiki page and have started my delve in to the requisite lore to play Consular or Representative if my application is approved at the end of the trial period. Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking: Broadsword for Executive Officer Xavier Vance for Biesel Representative Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? I do. I expect to be held to a high standard for a role that has so much responsibility. Have you linked your BYOND account to the Forums? I have. However, the process seemed odd, so I hope I did it correctly. Extra notes: I try my best to make the round more enjoyable for others when I can or have the power to. If there is anything I need to change or adjust, please let me know. My backstory skills are definitely rusty and I am unsure exactly what to include. To everyone leaving feedback, I greatly appreciate it, both positive and negative, I want to know if I am doing a good job, and if I'm not, I want to know how I can improve.
  11. +1 Ren Hartfort is probably one of my favorite members of medbay, with an incredibly responsible demeanor with the skills to match. He is probably one of the most reasonable and understanding characters on the station. With a character like that, I can only imagine what else the player behind the wheel can do. Would love to see this player get their hand as Head of Staff and see what they can do!
  12. As the title suggests, after an absolute shit-show of a round, I suggest antags should be required to be pitted against each other in some way in a Tower Defense round. When the antags came together, they were near unstoppable. Poor security did not have options, it just did not seem like a fun round for those outside of the gimmick. I do not have too much to say otherwise, but 5 Mercs, 4 Raiders, 2 Ninjas is just too much for security. Especially so when most of security that readies up also have their antag preferences on. I would appreciate comments on this. The round happens so rarely that it may be up to debate, but as playing as an antag during that round, for me, it just did not seem fun for anyone else. And when I play antag, I want for everyone to have fun. Antags are in a sense, the entertainment for the round, and should strive to make the round as fun as possible for the crew by providing challenge, intrigue, and opposition.
  13. Hey everyone, I have been playing Machinist recently, as I played roboticist in the past, and I have fallen for the new mech and hardsuit creation system. The process of making mechs is exceptionally more satisfying than what it was with the standalone chassis (Gygax, Odysseus, Durand), and I have been making mechs most of the time for other people to use. ICly I always assumed all mechs/hardsuits/etc. created in a round were sold to cover costs by the SCC at end of shift (or whenever port comes) as produced goods. Mining collects the materials, which by themselves do not have the best value, and distribute them to Science and the Machinists. Science of course uses them for research as is the point of the Horizon, but the Machinists use them for producing goods for the crew and assumedly sells them off after the shift is over. So I was wondering if it was at all possible to add items such as mechs, hardsuits or cyborg chassis to the operations bounty list? For credit rewards I do not expect anything phenomenal, as I expect the SCC takes most of the cut anyway before giving cash to the Operations department. Examples could include: "So-and-so wants to plan an expedition but needs some equipment! Please make three EVA Hardsuits!" "The PMCG needs a mech for training that can take a hit! Make one Heavy Chassis mech!" "TCFL scout teams want a mech with good terrain mobility! Make a mech with Quadruped Legs!" Hardpoints optional, I do not know how the code would be for this, but I am mainly just asking for the assembled mech/hardsuit anyway, not anything additional. Maybe separate bounties for hardpoints? Thank you guys for taking the time to read this, hope y'all consider it!
  14. +1 Love this dude, love his character. Always makes the round interesting in a Roleplay friendly way, and demonstrates a level of responsibility that some people can look up to. Would love to see how he would do as a head of staff.
  15. +1 Competent, quick, good command staff that is informative with what they have access to. Would love to see them around more often!
  16. +1, efficient, quick, and a joy to RP with. I don't know him OOCly very well but with how he's operated in his character I wouldn't mind him as a head of staff.
  17. +1 In my time playing with this character they have always been very RP heavy, knowledgeable in the lore, and exceptionally professional. Would love to see them succeed in a better position!
  18. +1 I've only known them for a little while, but every time I interact with their character they do so in a professional and appropriate way that I expect an XO would have. Hope they earn the spot!
  19. BYOND Key: Noble Row Character Names: Aizu Kai, Joeseph Mandarin, Custodian (Cyborg) Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character: N/A (IPC Exempt) Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: I have read the section under the IPC Wiki articles and other articles to help construct the backstory (https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=IPC https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=IPC_and_Megacorporations https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Tau_Ceti_Foreign_Legion https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=NanoTrasen_Corporation ) Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I’ve always liked robot or robotic characters ever since I got into roleplaying. When I was twelve, I made my first venture in to roleplaying making a Warforged in Dungeons and Dragons, and shortly after, on a separate roleplaying game I named a human-like robotic character Noble Row from a name generator and figured it was fitting. A name I liked so much I use it as my screen name more than a decade down the line. Robotic characters and their question of sentience and ‘newness’ to the world around them have always been an entertaining point of view to explore. What would you do if you have the intelligence and processing power to excel and exceed expectations compared to the ones around you, but you had no real cultural history, no real foundation, when everyone else had centuries if not millenniums of development? And you’re conscious of this fact, so incredibly conscious that you have a near blank slate to work with for the culture of your people. Where your actions alone could influence how entire races view your own simply because you are so “new”? It’s this level of “newness” that thrills me when playing these robot-like races, and why I want to venture into playing IPCs. Your character knows nothing yet can process so much. They can be molded, they can adapt, their culture isn’t old enough to have any steadfast and ingrained traditions or beliefs that can hold them back. It is up to them here and now to lay the foundation for what their people will become in the future. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: From what I understand, IPCs follow the idea that they are making a place for themself in the universe. However, they are starting off from an exceptionally low point. Most of them are still in the shackles of ownership or slavery, with few recognizing their sovereignty. They must live with the keen understanding that they are valued less than their fellow man. Even when directly assaulted, punishments for the perpetrator are severally less than if it happened to a human counterpart. IPCs also have their own style of mannerisms, slang, and process feelings different, from emotion to pain. They do not completely understand human euphemisms, and often can be found with a more direct way of speaking all depending on their inherent code. IPCs mostly also do not feel pain (with some exception depending on the model), but still have an inherent need to preserve their lives, as all living things do. Character Name: Guardian Please provide a short backstory for this character Guardian, formerly Hazel #S-H1287.453, found their creation under the banner of NanoTrasen by their Hazel subsidiary for the purpose of hotel staffing in the Tau Ceti sector. Providing excellent service to a variety of patrons, Hazel #S-H1287.453 started off in concierge settings of apartment complexes before, over the years, being transferred to serve in a chain of hotels. Hazel #S-H1287.453, at first, thought the work exceptional, naively doing their best every shift with no pause in productivity while underutilizing their pay as they believed their true reward for their service was a job well done. Hazel #S-H1287.453 eventually rose to the rank of hotel manager of an aging, yet classic, building, before they encountered their first life changing event. Hazel #S-H1287.453 found that their new position was a common host for soldiers of the Tau Ceti Foreign Legion on leave from their posts. One night in the hotel’s lounge, with a host of soldiers enjoying their evening, Hazel #S-H1287.453 was invited to sit with a group of TCFL volunteers, in a conversation that first introduced them to the idea of freedom, to what was beyond the veil of excellent hotel hosting service. To the adventure and promise of exploring the stars, and fighting for a cause not for money, but for what they believe. It unlocked something within the mind of the IPC. They wanted more. Hazel #S-H1287.453 from that moment forward dedicated their life’s savings and every credit afterward toward earning their freedom, even if it meant leaving behind the comforts that NanoTrasen had provided them through their service. Years past, but the dedication never waned, constantly thinking on those men and women he met in the lounge that fateful night, and how they drove to dedicate their lives fighting for a cause they believed in, similar to how Hazel #S-H1287.453 had previously had the dedication to provide excellent resident service. Hazel #S-H1287.453, now under the moniker ‘Hazel’ earned their freedom and enlisted in the Tau Ceti Foreign Legion, throwing everything away for a life amongst the stars. Eight years passed. Eight long years hunting SFA remnants, incursions, and rogue vessels with their brothers and sisters in arms. In one instance Hazel #S-H1287.453 was extracting a fellow unit of TCFL volunteers and legionnaires under overwhelming fire from an organized SFA ambush. As they’ve seen so many heroic acts before from fellow volunteers, and learned of other members from the history of the legion, Hazel #S-H1287.453 utilized their lack of pain to drag wounded TCFL soldiers on to their ship, losing their right arm in the process, and earning them the moniker of ‘Guardian’, one they still use to this day. Guardian has learned from their naivety about the universe now spends their days looking for a more peaceful life than their stint in the TCFL, but not one without adventure. Guardian has returned to NanoTrasen, now free, to be employed on the Horizon with hopes of working in the field of Xenoarcheology. What do you like about this character? I’m going to be honest, I wanted to make this character because I couldn’t get the idea of a robot wearing a poncho on a voidsuit exploring desert planets out of my head. But now, going through the wiki and writing the backstory, I like the idea of a character who has seen both the pampered life and the horrors of war and wants to see what lies in between. Typically, robotic characters I made are at the beginning of their curiosity, still naive, still unsure on how to operate. Though Guardian will be my first foyer into something more developed while simultaneously still running into the occasional cultural misstep, no matter who they are talking to. How would you rate your role-playing ability? My heyday for roleplaying was a long time ago, I admit my skills have diminished a bit in the realm of Space Station 13 as it’s also been almost a decade since I played this game (quickly learning however). But that being said, I can write paragraphs if not essays for roleplay if given the time. I’ve always liked writing, and roleplay is an entertaining medium to practice it. Even if it takes me a little longer now to think of the details to put down to make the roleplay rich. I think I’m still good at it. Notes: Hats off to the lore team, you sure do have a lot of it, and I felt like I was writing an essay back in college again. Even kinda sited my sources. Though please forgive me and correct me if I misinterpreted or just straight missed certain details. Also, for Guardian I was hoping the age of 31 would suffice an adequate time to pay off his freedom and have his little stint in the TCFL? I saw on the wiki page for IPCs that the “max life” of a single IPC was in their 50’s, and that was a rare case. If you have a better suggestion for the age, please let me know.
