  1. One thing I know for certain and from experience, a chief medical officer who takes every patient for his own will be a hated chief medical officer. Therefor I made a character from a Pharmacy background, with limited knowledge in surgery, virology and genetics; to the point he requires a learned assistant to practice them. Yet, recently in a random thought I asked myself, "What kind of backgrounds would a chief medical officer be allowed to come from?" I thought on it, thinking that the chief medical officer is to be the public figure of the medical bay, the one who takes responsibility for what happens and what does not, the one who commands his colleagues to do the correct thing at the correct time. This made me think, would nurses be able to be chief medical officers? Some nurses go to school as long as doctors do; I'm honestly surprised they don't have a title like other doctors. So, here's a question. Are nurses eligible to become a chief medical officer? And one more. Are auxiliary employees ( people employed through another company, ex. Zeng-Hu ) able to become heads or possibly be employed as a head through their home company?
  2. I think it'd be common to see people in their 40s, 50s, and 60s looking and feeling 20 years younger then they really are. Maybe we could just have it so characters can be as old as they like without having to carry around a cane and be angry grandpa.
  3. There are many different feats in medical technology presented before the player in SS13. The ability to heal a third degree burn in an afternoon, the ability to cure sepsis with a few injections, the ability to restore the dead; all amazing things. This also makes one wonder how long an average, healthy human with an average diet would live? Seeing as we are reaching 85 in 2015 and in 1915 we were at about 50, should it be expected that people would live easily to 100+? Could it be assumed that at some point between 2015 and 2457, humans found an answer to the malignancy of the human cell? We're expected to find a perfect prevention by 2030, so I can't see why not. Is it unreal that someone who is 45 could still look like they are in their 20s? Let's hear it.
  4. Redundant +support.
  5. Does anyone have an opinion on Mordechai Farache?
  6. Take them away entirely. I recently played a round where I had to just constantly drown patients who ( were shot just once!! ) with spaceacillin because they had infections across their entire bodies. They would all need operations because their lungs and livers would fail. In the time it would take me to get to chemistry and make spaceacillin ( 2 - 3 minutes ) they would go from mild infections to septic. This is insane! It was literally one of my worst rounds and I started making mistakes and lost two nuclear operatives because the people they had shot were all dying of sepsis! This needs an extreme rework and until it's done needs to be removed entirely. Sorry my post is messy I'm posting from my phone
  7. It's a nice idea but it's reward is worth less than the cost to do.
  8. I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't +1 support this. Rusty knows what he's doing and sometimes people get bored and cause some trouble. I doubt he would do it again if he got accepted.
  9. George VI

    The List

I don't play any of the characters on my listing anymore except for Mordechai Farache. Mordechai Farache: A snarky, un-nerved doctor of pharmacy who is hoping to becoming a C.M.O.
  10. I'd like that idea. It just seems that of the two labs, one has no desk space and the other has plenty. I dunno it might just be petty organization things but, still something to think about.
  11. Played with him before, I didn't see any reason why not to give him something like this and his application is very well written. +1 support. Edit: I haven't had much experience with Killerhurtz yet, however I have come to the understanding that he's acceptable for a head position seeing as though he has written a very professional application and has little to no rap sheet at all. I've really not much to say at all, but I'm always willing to give people their first shot. If he messes up, just revoke the whitelist. But, I don't believe he'll mess up. You wouldn't want to be like me, and lose your whitelist 20 times, would you? It's not a good time.
  12. I doodled some Mordechai Farache's
  13. What if you could give the cigarette packets named like the pill bottles, so everyone can have their own unique cigarette brand / imaginary friend.
  14. An infection left untreated can develop into sepsis, which can easily kill you within an hour.
  15. As every chemist knows, dylovene and inaprovaline are two very basic chemicals that form the basis of many medications on SS13. However, if one wants to save time making medications with these bases, one would often make the chemical dylovene or inaprovaline in the chem dispenser. However, if you do this, you may only make it in sections of 15, 30, 60, 90 or 150. Ten is the number that would be most useful, but it's not that simple. Here's my suggestion. Put two more little buttons on the machine that spit out dylovene and inaprovaline. Sulfuric acid has a button and it's made up of oxygen, hydrogen and sulfur. Why not have a simpler option for dylovene and inaprovaline like how sulfuric acid has? Another idea is that, the chem master seems to magically conjure medicine bottles when it requires them without the use of any resources. This is amazing and all, but for medications that are more useful in pill form, ( ex. ryetalyn and dexalin+ ) it becomes annoying when it can not conjure pill bottles like it can liquid bottles. Instead, you have a collection of 14 pill bottles in a locked cabinet in the corner of the room and you have to leave the pill bottle boxes on the floor and make a big mess. Let's make chemistry less of a tripping hazard and code in a pill bottle option as well. The grenade equipment has no real function in the chemistry lab other than to take up space. Most chemists wont ever touch the grenade casings and when they do, they fail horribly. There are only the select few who know how to make efficient grenades and they get arrested. Let's have the grenade equipment be ordered from cargo, so that they can not even attempt to make grenades without the HoS or CMO's explicit instruction. But, yeah. That's all I got. Opinions requested~
  16. Didn't scream at Mordechai for sulfuric acid, calmly asked and maturely waited for me to finish my first project then her sulfuric acid. I've always liked Fortune Bloise. Liked her name and her character. I'd have to say, +1 support.
  17. Thank you so much, Tool. It means a lot that you'd say that.
  18. I'll take a ban if I don't improve. I'd let you ward my children, but it's not medieval times and I don't have children to hostage off. Thank you for the +1. It means a lot.
  19. BYOND key: Previously Napoleon IV, now I only use George VI. Character names: I mainly only use Mordechai Farache now, however I also used to use Elijah Blumstein and Deborah Nelson. How long have you been playing on Aurora?: I have been here since the beginning of the server. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I want to play Dr. Farache as a chief medical officer, which people have suggested ICly he become. Why did you come to Aurora?: Originally, I did not like Apollo; I come back because you're better than the rest. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: I have. Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is a writer's game. It's to create an alternate identity and assume the role of a person for a plethora of reasons. Perhaps it's simply interesting, or maybe it's an escape from a bleak reality. Nontheless, I play for a realistic experience. It should be about having fun in whatever way you want to have fun. If fun to you is playing a noir-esque detective, do it; if fun is being a lesbian medical doctor, do it; if fun is being a cook for free, do it; if fun is preaching to deaf ears as the chaplain, do it. There's a plethora of choices in such a small and simple game and it doesn't hide anything. I personally believe role-play has actually helped me to develop better social skills, which I lacked growing up. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: The purpose of the head of staff is to head their staff. It's to create a departmental roleplay that flows well and keeps things going at a steady pace instead of hitting a dead stop. The head of staff shouldn't sit in their office with the door barricaded and command orders to their staff, of course not. They should however take orders from above and relay them below or give commands for players to follow which will lead them to an interesting roleplay experience. They are also there to help ensure that one player does not take all of the roleplay away from other players, ex. players who often do everything and a half in medical are players that other players dislike. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: A whitelisted player's responsibility is to follow the rules and provide another window of roleplay. They must not disconnect early on and they shouldn't try anything excessive without an administrator's and the other player's OOC approval. This is something that I didn't understand for a long time, but I'm really trying to convince you all that I am a changed man. I'm off the cocai- *cough* grief life. There's no way to describe how easy it is to disappoint as a whitelisted player, but so long as you always have a focus on what you are doing and do it correctly as described above, there is no problem. As a whitelisted player you really shouldn't be playing assistant often. A whitelisted character is also supposed to have a multitude of depth into their character, not hollow windows of command positions. I see this often, heads without any story behind them except for that they've been appointed. Personality-less command is something I personally hate to see. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Mordechai James Farache Jr. Character age: 34 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): I could go on for a long time, but Mordechai is a man from Earth. He is the second oldest child of his parents, who had nine children. His mother and father are old now, as are the rest of his family, but they all work as a commune of sorts. The Farache family has grown to power in their home; Montpelier, Vermont. The oldest son, Micheal, is the provincial governor of Vermont currently. Two younger sisters and a brother joined the military. Micheal, Mordechai and Wilson, the three oldest boys and children, were the only one's who were able to go to college, each going for a different school. Wilson became a doctor of veterinary, Micheal became a Lawyer and later a Governor and Mordechai became a doctor of Pharmacy. Ever since he could remember, Mordechai has seen himself to rise above. He possesses a hubris that often he becomes ashamed of. However, he has fought off the hubris and now is actually working to rise above. He's been working as a doctor of pharmacy for only 8 years now, starting in retail pharmacy until just recently when he was accepted into Zeng-Hu Pharmaceuticals. As a NanoTrasen partner, he may work for NanoTrasen as well as Zeng-Hu ( I believe ). He's heard multiple times that he'd make a good chief medical officer; his lab is always organized and clean and although he takes his time to produce the medications required, he always has the important ones done on time. Mordechai seeks to rise above for his family. He's the only one who actually makes a high salary out of his large family and he's not going to let it fall apart when his parent's become old and frail. After all, he was always Mom's favorite, right? What do you like about this character?: Mordechai is a neurotic fellow and often fails to see the consequences to his actions, however he finds a way to negotiate a deal that will make everyone leave happy. He takes his time in his work to make it just right and he's a new character in my head. For the longest time I used Elijah Blumstein because I thought I was going to be a cranky old man when I grew up. My characters are always a window as to what I want to be when I reach the real world. I personally want to be a doctor of pharmacy and although I know that SS13 is not a realistic aspect of what being a pharmacist is like, it's still fun nontheless. What do you dislike about this character?: I dislike how he's got a sort of shallow story, but I'm hoping I'll be able to develop the rest of it with him as a chief medical officer. He's also a bit flip-flop in his mood but it's important to take a neutral stance as a head and make a judgement after. Do you think this character is fit to be a Head of Staff?: I believe so. Why?: Mordechai has a very good understanding of medicine and is already taking command roles as a Pharmacist, asking politely for people to do things instead of commanding them and helping to diffuse workplace conflicts while still holding his ground. I also believe this because, although I forget who it was, my mind says Luna Fountain ( whoever the doctor is who wears the slippers ) told Mordechai that he should be a chief medical officer. That really inspired me to do this, seeing as nobody has told me that I should be whitelisted in a long time. Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: In the past I have rated it at an 8 or a 9 because I have always been an excellent writer. This however did not add with the fact that in the past I have disregarded other people and I've seen the game with a protagonist complex of sorts. I didn't think to myself that, although I am developing my character, everyone else is trying to do so also. If I develop my character this way, is the other person going to be able to develop their's at all? Today, I'd give myself a 6 or 7 seeing as I am still learning all the aspects of respect and courtesy. I'm changing and people have noticed and I'm hoping that I've just changed enough. Extra notes: I know that many of you have a massive grudge on me and my actions in the past, but even Richard Nixon was pardoned. I'm just asking for a pardon, so I can start fresh. I don't want to be the Giles Corey of Aurora. I want to be the King George VI or Napoleon IV that started with all of you people so long ago on Apollo, with just a fresh slate ahead of me. I want this one new tablet to carve my story into, I'd really just love one final and ultimate chance. I haven't been banned in a long time, nor have I been kicked or yelled at. It's been at least 6 months, I have to say. I have changed, I am not asking for one last chance to show you I've changed, I'm asking for you to look closely and examine me through. Don't base your thoughts of me on what you've heard or what an administration note's page says about me. I want you all to learn who I am and I want to be friends. I want to be a part of this community and not just a camp follower of sorts. I'm here to stay, very rarely do I ever go on a different server than Aurora. Maybe this will be the time that you all don't see King George VI and immediately downvote, citing my past. Cite my present, not my past, and base it off what I am doing now. To think that nobody could be rehabilitated or changed is preposterous. A world like that, we'd still have asylums and psychiatry wouldn't exist. Just one final chance to show you I've changed. If you don't accept this, at least give me the opportunity to be a part of you. I want you to get to know me, not get to know my rap sheet. But if the past is so overwhelming that you can not pardon it, I would understand. I've done some pretty shitty things here, I've been disrespectful, I've been a bad person in general but I'm so much older now. To think, the last time I held a whitelist was in the summer of 2013 ( or 14, I cannot remember ). That's a year and a half ( or just a half of a year ) which is a lot of time to hold a grudge on someone. There's just something inside me that's saying that this time you'll hear me out and not think these are blank words that are just from a mastermind griff-lord who only seeks to destroy everything that's ever been put together. I am good at writing applications, yes, and I'm good at making promises. In my last application I promised similar things and I have stuck to that promise for the most part. Aurora, baby, won't you please just give me one final, ultimate, last chance?
  20. Does anyone have an opinion on Elijah Blumstein? He's one of my oldest characters and I'd like to know what people think.
  21. George VI

    The List

Primary - Elijah J. Blumstein - Emotionally dampened doctor with a bad childhood, learning to love life again. Secondary - Vandad Rostami - Easy-going and friendly security officer, looks to rehabilitate those he arrests and sees criminals as friends. Recently won the lottery, so he's retiring away. Secondary - Deborah Nelson - Manipulative and intriguing, she has left for the outer colonies to live a life in disguise. Saving money by stealing resources brought to research and development and making knockoff jewelry, she's paid her bail for Insurgent-Related Terrorism and disappeared off the radar. Scarcely - James Cielinski - Quiet psychiatrist, tries to mind his own business. He works with his own version of psychoanalysis and is very conservative. Scarcely - Sardon Armin - Previously a mercenary, he lives a quiet life as a Staff Assistant on the NSS Aurora; to keep him working, he says.
  22. I like this guy, his characters are good. I haven't played with them much, but I've heard them on the radios and I enjoy them. +1
  23. I don't like that mindset, "Behavior needs to be curbed." It's like you all think you're psychiatrists. Very well, though. The bullet idea is clever also. It gives an unfair advantage because it's supposed to, not because it's a bug. Not every instance of RP needs to result in the antagonist dead / captured / exploded.
  24. No, this is not power-gaming. I think it's clever, and clever thought should be applauded, not frowned upon. Because the description states it is used to make a human into another, yet it works on monkeys also is clear evidence that the developers of the function wanted to reward changelings who were clever. If we try to dispatch clever thought on mere technicalities, we ruin the point of the game. If a changeling wants to farm for more power, ( in a way that doesn't kill players, mind you all ) I say sure. Why the hell not? Normally it ends with their capture and being sold away to Xenobiology anyway. There's a fine line between game mechanics and role-play that doesn't need to be there. If it's about being a serial killer, being a serial killer is about power. It's about the thrill, the feeling. But why should every changeling be a cold-hearted serial killer? Some changelings can be intellectual, can farm, can put themselves into society. I'm not against monkey farming. However, if he abused the powers he got from this in a way that violated the rules / lacked role play, he deserves punishment for it.
