  1. The constant atmosphere of being forced into an emergency situation barely an hour into the round and for as long as the round lasts either up until the 2 hr mark when all of the antagonists are dead or sooner because the antagonists decided to sabotage the station beyond repair. I would prefer a wider variety of gameplay that isn't a constant high-octane and low-drag. It is notably less fun to have to deal with completely uncounterable situations such as a malf AI sabotaging the engine barely an hour into the round, in addition to traitors and changelings at the same time causing trouble of their own, round after round after round.

Dismissing my concerns about how this reflects roleplay in favor of the excuse that "it's a new system" (it most certainly is not by now) and the bandwagon argument "people vote it a lot so clearly people like it" (most certainly not true, you should hear what people have to say at the end of the round sometimes) is not exactly the response I'd like to hear in relation to these sorts of issues. Especially when the person in particular brushing feedback off has not actually played these game modes out to see the kinds of effects these game modes have on the "meta-game" of roleplay and how rounds typically progress now.

If you've ever seen how aggressive security is forced to play (I do mean to imply that security often has to adopt either an extremely violent reactive response to assault by antag or face the threat of being killed by one of three possible antagonist types in a single possible round) during these types of round types so as to not get killed first, you will know what I mean.

If Security are changing the way that they act in a round because of the game mode being mixed secret, that's more an issue of Security metagaming to an extent. Until something goes down they should be acting business as usual.

Tons of meaningful HRP can happen in loud, disaster rounds. Just not chair RP.

  2. I think that high stress emergency situations promote a different kind of RP. People should pay attention to how their character reacts under stress, and it can be a nice break from chair RP.

Also, mixed secret also has Extended.

Also also. If people wanted to play extended, they can always vote for it.

  3. If you're familiar with the game Sub Rosa, Tradeoff is basically that.

There are at least two traitors, who get mixed details on who the other traitors are. Maybe a name or a job, or nothing. All traitors share the same traitor pass phrases.

Each traitor starts with a unique coloured disk, operational funds, both or nothing. They get telecrystals too. Each traitor will have objectives to obtain a specific disk, Operational funds, or both. If the objectives of two traitors line up. They can do a clean deal, but if one traitor has to get away with the disk AND the money, it'll be messy.

Of course, NT wants these disks back (stolen research) and the money would be nice too. If any of these assets are in possession of a Head, in the Vault or in the Security area of the shuttle at round end, they are considered captured by NT.

To involve more of the crew in the proceedings, after 30 minutes a CC message is generated informing Command that information has been stolen and NT wants it recovered. Crew are encouraged to report suspicious behaviour and maybe a CC Officer is dispatched to investigate the crew and hunt down the disks? Roleplaying as the non antag crew under heavy CC scrutiny could be fun.

Major Traitor Victory: At least half of the traitors fulfilled their objectives AND no disks or operational funds were recovered by NT.

Minor Traitor Victory: At least one traitor fulfilled their objective.

Neutral: No traitors completed their objectives and no assets were recovered by NT.

Minor Crew Victory: Some assets were recovered by NT and no traitors completed their objectives.

Major crew victory: All assets were recovered by NT.

  4. Add a machine somewhere in the station that controls the artificial gravity. Nothing fancy - just toggle gravity whether its on or off.

If the generator were to fail due to an event or damage, engineering and science would have to cooperate to repair it (maybe it requires advanced machine components?).

This would provide more depth to the gravity failure event instead of it being a literally nothing that lasts 1 minute, and it could be a sabotage target for antags. Hell, it could contain some kind of unique macguffin for antags to try and steal!

  5. To all them Unathi buffs out there, do you think that I'm doing an alright job of portraying a culturally conservative Unathi Female?

In the short time I've played her, I've begun to move a little further away from the bad Ceti Basic so that she's actually employable. But I'm keeping her firmly illiterate.

  6. I dunno guys. This probably isn't going to be a popular opinion, on account that it asking for yet more work to be done by the dev team, but I feel like you could do a lot better with reactions to atmos temperature than making it deal micro-burn damage the moment you cross the initial designated danger threshold. You say it's a minor annoyance that doesn't affect anyone, but I don't like to have to be covered in 'fresh skins' every time I step into a freezer for 30 seconds to grab a steak or create a condiment bottle.

I acknowledge that there are really only four basic damage types, and fireloss is the only type of damage that even really fits temperature related trauma. It is definitely relevant to someone sitting in temperatures so extreme they literally start peeling skin or flash-freezing blood, but there are certainly a lot less lazy and half-assed ways one could deal with hypothermia/frostbite and heat stroke in more moderate but still hazardous temperatures.

Even in the much vaunted lore, for instance, there is a mention about unathi that:

As a cold-blooded species, they suffer fatigue and even short comas when exposed to extremely low temperatures.

And, for equal coverage to illustrate the lie fact that I only read or care about unathi lore:

However, this gives [Tajarans] a tendency to overheat in more mild environments. Those who find themselves confined to bio suit or radiation suit (and by extended definition, to a sweltering environment) for extended periods of time will end up feeling extremely uncomfortable and perspiring heavily.

In no way do the current mechanics illustrate either of these things, beyond entirely flavor text related messages about feeling sluggish or uncomfortable. Unathi do not pass out in the cold, and in fact, start getting alarming messages about 'You feel icicles forming in your lungs!" because there's only like 3 prepackaged 'temperature warming' emotes in each direction, and unathi having a lower cold maximum means they get the scary messages a lot easier.

Having never played a tajaran, I assume there is a similar problem when they overheat, where they're told they are uncomfortable, but they are supposedly capable of ignoring it completely due to...

Unathi do not actually take any damage worth a damn from freezers, it heals near-instantly and doesn't even stack up if you stay in there, it is just an annoyance that cannot cause infections or anything else.

This gem of immersive gameplay mechanics (which is true, after some study - you never go above 2 fireloss in the freezer, making it an utterly irrelevant mechanic)

The point I'm trying to make here is that introducing something that causes a character to gradually lose consciousness and soon die of exposure if unrescued would be a lot better system than immediately starting to take tiny ticks of fireloss the moment you get cold/hot enough to pass your species preset temperature thresholds.

    Basically this.

  7. My reasoning is pretty simple. A vampire needs blood to do anything. There is an "emote" of him sinking his fangs into you when he does it. Generally a vampire needs to lure someone secluded. That doesn't need to happen when the vampire is in complete control of the station. He took a little of your blood and then went on his way. Thats really as far as that particular interaction needed to go and its super silly to decry "heavy RP failings" because i didn't have an issue with him doing it.

Also the antag did actually drive a story. You wouldnt know that though because you only seem interested in YOUR interaction.

The concept that all an antagonist needs to do is provide RP for only some of the people that they interact with is patently absurd. It's a slippery slope, and where is the limit?

If I provide excellent RP with a small clique of friends and then go on a spree that wounds everyone else on the station with no other interaction than that, is that acceptable?

If I provide excellent RP with three people, then just go randomly attacking people?

Or if I RP with just one person, then go gank.

This was a situation where the Vampire had all of the power. Not only did he have a mechanical advantage over me (Flash & Pin), but he, as you say, controlled the station. At no point in the entire proceedings was he in any danger or need to flee. He was in complete control of the situation. However, he did not do anything interesting, he didn't do any interaction, RP, or say anything. Hell, that was all I needed to get me invested in the round, because I was a latejoiner and I was still trying to figure out what I was going to do about all this considering I wasn't sure what had happened before my arrival. But instead of doing that, this person just used me as a quick way to gather more mechanical advantage and then left without a word.

Also, think about this from the RP standpoint. With a Vampire, after they SUCC you, you have no memory of the incident. Therefore, all of that FUN, ENGAGING RP has to happen - BEFORE the drinking. When he walks right up to me and drinks without a word and then leaves, it is INCREDIBLY dissatisfying from an RP standpoint. I had no chance to react or provide input to what's happening, he didn't give me anything to work off, and then when he's finished - Poof! You don't remember anything sucker! It's stupid and takes all of the immulsions straight out of you.

Reason for complaint: I think that the way Garn handled my adminhelp of Fernando Gonzales flashing, grabbing and biting me without saying anything or performing an emote went against the server's principles of High-RP and the purpose of an antagonist in the round.

He told me that it did not matter that Fernando had made no meaningful RP interaction with me because the attack had not killed me. It was only when I pressed the issue that he agreed to "have a talk to" Resilynn, Fernando Gonzales' player.

I was unhappy with this resolution, but willing to accept it. However, at the end of the round when I expressed my dissatisfaction with the proceedings, the person involved: Resilynn, demonstrated that he had absolutely zero remorse about the actions that he had taken, and parroted the exact same sentiment that Garn had expressed earlier. It's pretty obvious why I think that Garn never actually took any action against Resilynn, considering that they both seem to agree about the issue and that Resilynn was not remorseful, and never even apologised for what he did. Hell, both Garn and Resilynn continually DEFENDED his actions.

On a server that advertises itself as High-RP, antagonists should be held to high standards of RP, as they are the primary driving force of RP behind most rounds on the server. Of course, I'm not so stupid as to believe that an antagonist should try and talk or emote in the middle of a high octane fight - That would be ridiculous. But in situations where the antagonist has all the power over their victim, they ABSOLUTELY should provide meaningful interaction, be it through emote or through conversation.

The primary goal of antagonists is to DRIVE A STORY AND TO GENERATE INTERACTION.

Garnascus did not uphold this in both the advice he provided to me in the admin help, or the action that he ultimately took regarding the matter.

Also I'm sorry that I was a salty cunt after the round. I was angry and I apologise.

I am not contesting that the attack itself didn't do very much damage - It knocked me down and darkened my vision, but that's about it - Hell, I was not even angry that he attacked me in the first place. I was angry that it was incredibly dissatisfying from a RP standpoint, and it was a part of a larger problem that round where I had been attacked and drank from by vampires three times with very little interaction, not to mention repeatedly vampflashed without warning or again - any interaction.

    Evidence/logs/etc:

These logs have been abridged for clarity. I only included posts from Garn, Resilynn and myself that were directly relevant to the argument. I might have accidentally missed some though. If I have, please bring it up.

Fernando Gonzales has grabbed Sah Asehlkr passively!

Fernando Gonzales pins Sah Asehlkr down to the ground (now hands)!

Fernando Gonzales bites Sah Asehlkr's neck!

You are unable to resist or even move. Your mind blanks as you're being fed upon.

    Sah Asehlkr: Dude

    Sah Asehlkr: Actually fuck off

Sah Asehlkr: This is a RP server

Sah Asehlkr: Fucking act like it

    You feel woosey

Fernando Gonzales: It's cool, I won't kill you. And I've RP'd the whole time

You remember nothing about being fed upon. Instead, you simply remember having a pleasant encounter with Fernando Gonzales.

PM to-Staff : This fernando dude just vamp flashed, grabbed and sucked me without a single word or emote. I'm sick of the shitty Rp from these vampires this round. Pls do something

    Fernando Gonzales whispers.

[Head Admin PM] Garnascus: well...you arent dead

to Garnascus: It's piss poor RP

    to Garnascus: Terrible

[Head Admin PM] Garnascus: its not really gank or anything if he only takes a little blood

to Garnascus: Like, if I walk up to him right now and started harm punching him, left him within an inch of his life, and then left. Oh, it's fine because he's not dead?

to Garnascus: He's antagging with NO RP or interaction. Boring as fuck

[Head Admin PM] Garnascus: potentially, ill speak with him. you cant really expect much in the way of interaction if a vamp needs a little blood from you though

to Garnascus: He sucked so much that my vision is dark.

[Head Admin PM] Garnascus: and you will live. go eat some food to help replenish your blood. i will speak to the vamp

    The Vampires were:

Fernando Gonzales (Resilynn) as a Medical Doctor (fled the station)

Crozarius: Oh yeah, so great. Vampires just running up to people, flashing, drinking and then running off without any RP or talking.

    Crozarius: Such a good round

Resilynn: I RPed with a ton of peole.

Resilynn: I did that entire blood drive, I formed friendships and protected people, I did negotations...

    Garnascus: not enough RP apparently

Crozarius: REsilynn, you walked up to me and drank wordlessly.

    Resilynn: And killed you?

Crozarius: And garn you were NOT much better

Garnascus: HE ONLY TOOK A LITTLE BLOOD

Resilynn: Or was I already established as a vampire, openly.

Crozarius: OH yeah, because if they don't die you don't need AAAAAAAAANY RP AT ALL

Crozarius: How fucking silly of me

    Garnascus: stop saying "wordlessly" jesus

Crozarius: Man, for a second I thought that this was a HIGH RP SERVER

Resilynn: Half the station was already turned.

    Garnascus: lets be nice

Resilynn: Everyone knew who and what I was.

    Man up.

    Deal with it.

    Move on.

Crozarius: It just seems like this server has very, very low standards for RP, which I find strange in a place that advertises itself as HRP

Crozarius: I've been flat out told by a Head Admin that because an antagonist didn't kill me, they didn't need to do any RP.

Resilynn: Listen. The guy who has openly killed several people, and is openly drinking from people.

Resilynn: Isn't going to realistically stop to have a conversation with you anymore.

Garnascus: thats actually not what i said or meant croz

Crozarius: And I was told by that same admin that they'd talk to the person involved, and that person then later bought the exact same attitude to OOC that "lol w/e i didn't kill you so i didn't need to RP"

Crozarius: So you didn't even reprimand him, you just said you'd chat with him and then did nothing

Crozarius: It doesn't have to be a conversation. Emote. Anything, god.

Crozarius: Okay Garn I'll keep it in mind. As long as you only deal 20 points of damage you can just do whatever

    Garnascus: hes salty

Crozarius: Garn, what you don't seem to understand is that I play a character who *thrives* on being put in shitty situations, getting hurt and dying - In terms of RP. I *WANT* to be attacked, maimed, killed, whatever. What I DON'T want is for any of those things to happen in a way that completely invalidates everything I'm trying to do - Have a meaningful RP experience with an antagonist. Instead it boils down to the fact that my character cannot fight, and that my only outlet is RP, because this is a HRP server

Garnascus: mate i get you're upset but your perspective is so skewed here

Garnascus: no matter what i say you will think you're right

    Garnascus: and you're not

Crozarius: What? I'm wrong because I want to RP on the HRP server? What kind of crazy town is this?

Garnascus: thats not why i think you're wrong

Garnascus: but any further discussion here is moot. you can always make a complaint

Crozarius: I'm wrong because I expect that we hold antagonists to a high standard of RP to provide the driving force of RP in most rounds?

    Garnascus: come on man....

Crozarius: I have made a complaint in adminhelp, and """""""Action"""""""" was taken that turned out to be not even a talking to, judging by the tone of the culprit in OOC at the end of the match. Action has already been taken, so ...

    Garnascus: mate, enough.

    Additional remarks:

Again, I'm very sorry about how rude I was in LOOC and OOC. I have been very frustrated and I'm working on it.

  9. Hello! I'm sorry for the delay. I've read your application and it is very strong, though there are some red flags I feel are necessary to point out and have you respond to before making a decision; you have very strong feedback which is also helping.

Currently IPC whitelists you for shells, baselines, as well as industrials. You've cited abilities and construction techniques for your IPC that mix elements of industrials as well as shells. (I took away from the application that the character is a shell with industrial components)

    From our wiki,

Tougher and more durable than most IPC's, these units are designed for heavy manual work and thus have thick metal skin and efficient internal systems. As a result, they cool well and have excellent mobility, but chug through power at a very high rate. Despite their brutish nature, most tend to have complex processing units and in turn, positronic brains. This allows them to have a wide skillset but they generally lack in complex emotion synthesization or much personality.

This is the opposite of shells, which tend to be more fragile - relative to the robust synthetic frames that resist brute damage, of course.

What are the 'combat' capabilities of your character? How do they respond to various threats? Do you feel that they are aggressive? Will you be using the advantages of synthetics to get a mechanical edge over antagonists and use her combat-oriented programming and backstory to justify aggressive provocation of antagonists?

Hi, no worries. I understand that these things take time.

Anyway, to address the first question: I intended Leslie to not have the personality of a shell at all. Leslie is emotionally dumb as a sack of bricks. Sure, there may be a lot of processing power in the positronic brain, but with the basic software loaded at its core, they're simple as shit.

On the second point, I was going for something that in IC Emoteland would be extraordinarily difficult to deal with. It's hard to fight a robot, one that can move in ways that you can't, and doesn't feel pain on the same level that you do. In combat, Leslie is fast, relentless and unerring - Just like a machine with combat programming would be.

    However.

The way I see it, Leslie is not an aggressive character. Leslie is an extraordinarily reactive character who requires conflict or input to play off of. Leslie follows orders and has excellent crisis management software in a sort of "Leslie saw this person break a law - Arrest" or "Leslie sees a loaded gun pointed toward officers - Engage" way, but outside of those areas Leslie almost completely lacks initiative both in investigation and... problem solving? Leslie doesn't take offense to things, Leslie doesn't get suspicious. With Leslie, there has to be a broken law or a dangerous situation else it's a very placid character.

On the topic of antagonism though, I dunno, in the concept when I was writing it I had a lot of inspiration from the thought that Leslie WAS an antagonist in a sleeper agent sense. Modules, programming and locked up addins that were smuggled in there that can suddenly be activated to turn Leslie into a potent antagonist.

Hell, the more I talk about it the more I think that perhaps Leslie would be better suited as a full blown Android.

  10. Yeah, in my experience winter coats don't help. Just to confirm though: is it really working as intended for it to actually deal burn damage after only several seconds? Also, it's hard to get access to winter coats outside of loadouts.

  11. Don't get me wrong - I like the idea of coldrooms actually being COLD, and I'm supportive of them being harmful for Unathi to be in for any amount of time due to their cold blood. HOWEVER, I don't think it should actually physically BURN them as it does now. Burns can lead to infections, and it doesn't really make sense for the cold to actually physically burn Unathi flesh.

The cold should just give them HALOSS damage, to the point of basically knocking them out indefinitely if they spend too long in a cold space. That'd be realistic to being cold blooded.

  12. My first and only experience with awesomeguy002 was some pretty serious murderboning as a cultist IPC. He wordlessly stabbed me to death even after I was disarmed and helpless, and immediately upon shoving me into a Juggernaut, his only order was to "Kill them all" I think it displayed a pretty clear lack of RP tact, as even when all the cards lay in his hands and he held the power in the situation, he didn't stop to engage in any kind of RP and just lunged for valids and objectives.

    -1 from me.

Charging a Cultist with a Stunbaton and Beanbag shotgun is a pretty good way to get stabbed to death, especially after you try to get back up and punch the people who disabled you in the face. It's hard to engage in roleplay when you get shot in the head with a Beanbag mid-emote. I got tired of trying to sit there and deal with you so I decided to just off you so the people with more sense and ultimately patience would potentially decide to roleplay.

The bold face lie that is this post just makes me dislike you even more. I never carried a stun baton that entire round -You already had a stun baton. Furthermore, you chased ME down in the medbay, repeatedly following me while I backed up. F U R T H E R M O R E, when I did get back up after being critted, I ran two tiles away from you, then typed /rest and tried to emote, and you ran over and started stabbing me. Don't try to spread lies to defend yourself at my expense.

  13. My first and only experience with awesomeguy002 was some pretty serious murderboning as a cultist IPC. 14. BYOND Key: Crozarius

Character Names: Tlazo Svydia (I have a couple others who have seen less than 5 rounds combined)

Species you are applying to play: Industrial Frame

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): IPC Exemption

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race: I want to play an IPC because I've always had a penchant for playing synthetic races. I used to main AI waybackwhen on /tg/station and for a while on Unbound Travel before that particular tyre-fire came crashing down. I love working within the limitations of a specific lawset, and the implications intended or not that that can cause. I got a flair for robotic writing styles and during my brief forays into playing Cyborgs, I got into the weird, unnatural side of cyborgs, describing all the strangeness and weirdness that makes them different from playing your normal Human. I want to extend that to a high RP server like Aurora, and get into the more open ended area of IPCs as opposed to Cyborgs, who are powerful, yet limited in RP capabilities. I don't want to be a metal person. I want to be a machine that just got rolled off of a production line, custom fit and tooled to code, ready to pursue its purpose with single minded intensity. But you know, not a Cyborg.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

It really is a lot of things. I think that the most important thing for me would be how they act. A Human moves in a very organic way, which may seem quite silly to say, but think about it. Humans move the way that they do because of their physical limitations, the extent of their fleshy connectors, the gait of their step. An IPC is a tool, a tool with a absolutely VAST array of different designs and schematics. Even if the general design is Humanoid, an IPC would move in an utterly unnatural way. They have absolutely NO frame of reference for how not to move their bodies save for the essential knowledge of what they absolutely cannot do. There's absolutely nothing stopping them from twisting their torsos around in a complete one-eighty. There's nothing stopping them from contorting their bodies into strange, unnatural postures for no reason other than pure convenience. I imagine that they would move with single minded determination, unfaltering, unblinkingly. But it's not JUST the jerky, uncanny economy of motion that a machine might employ, it's also other, tiny things that really nails the character. It's the noises that they make, like the soft hum of an electric engine or the throaty grunt of a powerful servo whining and ticking against the stress it's pushing back against. It's the thrust of hot air pouring from its coolant exhaust, the scent of hot oil permeating the air around them, the ticking of metal as it contracts and expands in cold and heat. Furthermore, there's no reason that an IPC need be strictly Human in shape. Whomever designed and manufactured that IPC would be the single determiner of what exactly that machine looked like. What if it was a machine designed to carry large objects? Would such a machine not have immense arms capable of lifting heavy loads, with a massive, wide set of legs for maximum leverage and low centre of mass? Or an IPC designed specifically for combat a sublime amalgamation of ballistic weave bound around artificial muscle fibres and an exoskeleton? .

Character Name: CRUSH VECTOR Model O8 Leslie

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs The CRUSH VECTOR Model O8, an outstanding example of ubiquitous design that lent to the great financial success of the Crush Vector Mining Corporation. Model O8 was originally intended as a generic industrial android to supplement their already existing specialist mining models and co-pilots. It was, at its core, a standard endoskeleton graded for industrial stress values, full range of movement on every limb and complete spinal rotation. An Industrial PPE sheath was slapped on, and the standard model was born. It was designed to be modular, adaptable to a whole host of industrial disciplines from light mining to hazardous spill management. To supplement this modular design choice, it was only afforded a primitive AI module for basic, efficient operations as standard, but included a revolutionary system of module loading slots inside the back of its cranium, into which holotapes containing specialist AI modules could be loaded.

When the design was released, it sold almost frighteningly well. People discovered that it could be re-purposed for almost any task. More AI Modules were introduced, both by Crush Vector, third parties or black market pirates looking to make a quick buck by selling roughshod or illegal AI modules to the open market. Of course, all gravy trains eventually run their course, and Crush Vector eventually moved on to other specialist models and branched out into their exclusive line of Mining Hardsuits and PDWs. However, the Model O8 remains a workhorse of many organisations who appreciate it for its reliability, modular design and now cheap price point as a second, soon to be third generation IPC chassis.

"Leslie", as denoted by the scratched nametag on this particular unit's chassis, is one such Model O8, stripped back and re-purposed for the role of Corporate Security. Well, at least on paper. What appears to be an old Model O8 with a CorpSec lick of paint is in actuality a serious piece of hardware. Concealed beneath the normal bulk and heft of an industrial android are retrofitted combat-grade actuators, cooling systems and advanced Tac-link processors mashed into its normal, dull AI brain. Its normal, industrial boxy sheath has been replaced with a sleek impact-gel bodyglove that winds taut across its endoskeleton. Its AI Module system remains intact, despite hidden augmentation, and only one slot lies occupied - It's crudely soldered in, and bears a peeled label with the words: Leslie scrawled upon it.

Leslie itself could hardly care about all this secret squirrel business, of course. Sure, that Tac-link and enhanced processors have its reflexes buzzing along at quite a clip, but in the end it is still just as... Simple as your standard Model O8. You know, for now. Until whoever took such pains to get such a nifty piece of combat hardware aboard decides otherwise.

What do you like about this character? I'm excited to have a go at playing this character because I've always wanted to play a quite... Basic character. A character of focus and determination, one that can take orders from its crew members and carry them out with brutal, frightening precision. On its own, Leslie lacks initiative in spades. In many cases, without given a problem to solve or a THING to DO, Leslie lacks a purpose. But with people around to provide external stimuli, and instructions for Leslie to follow, I feel like it can provide a whole host of great RP opportunities.

How would you rate your role-playing ability? I have four years of solid RP and storytelling experience under my belt. Forgive me for tooting my own horn, but I would consider myself a very advanced roleplayer. Granted, SS13 is only a small piece of the outlets of creativity that I enjoy, and I have taken a break from mid-2016 onward. but I haven't ever stopped writing.

Notes: I understand that Leslie's combat augmentations may be a point of contention for this application, regardless of how I intend to roleplay it, and I'm fully willing to discuss that aspect of the character should you guys feel that it should be tweaked.

Please provide well-articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race:

I want to play Unathi because I have gotten used to playing them on my prior server, Unbound Travels. I took a look at the Wiki for Aurora and much of the basic characteristics such as mannerisms, diet and body are essentially the same and the culture only looks to be slightly tweaked. The biggest difference I can see is the History. I like the Unathi because of their aesthetic and the fact that they’re physically powerful and intimidating whilst also being flawed.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

Well, it’s a lot of things, really. First and foremost would probably be speech, given the different oral anatomy like tongue and jaw structure (Also possibly a lack of li ps?) would cause a hissing sound when speaking Tau-Ceti Common. I asked about this on OOC chat because I could not find a definitive answer on the wiki and Alberyk told me that this does happen. Next, in general terms, would be the way that Unathi interact with other people. Unathi are generally somewhat formal in their dealings, especially with members of their own race. Superiors have to be addressed in the proper manner and peers or lowers must still be addressed by their family name rather than their given name, unless express permission is given. Again, I could not figure out how this is handled in terms of Unathi speaking to other races, such as Human, but I imagine that the habit would carry over and an Unathi would offer the same courtesy. Next comes the expression of emotion which differs significantly from Humans due to physical differences. Specifically the tail, the scales and the tongue are the main ways that Unathi express themselves.

    Character Name: Tlazo Svydia

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

Tlazo was among the first generation of children hatched on Ouerea. Her childhood years were generally unremarkable other than the fact that her early years were spent in the fledgling years of the colony. During her education, she received a mixture of the traditional Moghes cultural education and the tempered views of the Colonial Government funded and sponsored schools. She grew up with a healthy respect for her own people’s culture and customs, but her education schooled her thoroughly in the acceptance of different races and cultures. Tlazo was physically unremarkable among her peers (Which, in the context of Unathi, meant that she grew to be somewhat thicker and taller than the average Human), though she exceled in academic work. She failed to receive Dux of the grade when she graduated secondary education, but regardless went on to apply for a Colonial Government run University to pursue a 4 year Medical Degree at the age of 18. Now, Tlazo’s immediate family and clan was never particularly rich and quite honestly, the burden of University fees were something that they could not bear. However, Tlazo was offered a NanoTrasen incentive program that offered to pay every cent of her University fees provided she sign a contract obligating her to work for them. Naturally, Tlazo accepted.

Tlazo’s academic aptitude served her well through the four years of her University degree and she completed it without a hitch. By the time her degree was nearing completion, she was well aware of the current diplomatic climate on Ouerea. It was all well and good that the world was coming under the control of the Unathi, she feared what might happen when the conflicting cultures of the Mogheans and the moderately liberal Ouerrians collided. When the time came for Tlazo to leave Ouerea and take on her obligation to NanoTrasen, she was all too eager to leave.

What do you like about this character? What I like about Tlazo and the previous incarnation that I played back on Unbound Travels was the novelty of having an Unathi character who abided by the traditional cultural norms of the Unathi whilst remaining an intelligent character. On Unbound Travels, there were many Unathi who were somewhat… Meatheaded. It also allows me to get into Medbay however I like, considering that I’ll be playing as a Medical Intern. I figure that after a while of playing the station and once I get some experience of how the Medical System works around there, I can upgrade her character to an EMT or some such.

How would you rate your role-playing ability? How would I rate my own ability? Well, I think that I’m pretty good. “Fuck I’m Good, Just Ask Me”, aside, I try and be reasonable with all the IC decisions I make. In roleplay, one of my favourite things to do is try and accurately react to pain as much as possible. On Unbound Travels, I found that often I was the only one who roleplayed out dropping to the ground and clutching their face when my character took a laser carbine shot directly to her unprotected face. I feel like that kind of stuff as well as things like fear open up a lot of opportunity for RP. Another one of my hobbies is to write elaborate *setpose for my character if I get killed to set the scene if/when someone finds the body. Stuff like obvious injuries, facial expression, position of the body and other such things, but nothing metagame-y. I feel like it adds a lot more gravity to the situation.

Notes: I could not find a guide for proper naming conventions for Unathi, so I decided to keep my old name from a previous server. If that name is inappropriate for Unathi on this server, I'll change it.
