  1. I am suggesting ID cards that have face of your character in the photo slot on that little ID sprite. And along with that I would also suggest guest passes losing their photo slot displayed on the sprite. It would be very simplified and would only show the colour of your hair and the colour of your skin. No haircuts, no eyes. I believe it should be entirely possible to take the colour of both from character sheet and then use it to paint the picture on every card differently. Now, what I am suggesting is very similar to already implemented suggestion here: https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=72&t=6390&p=63620&hilit=face+card#p63562 but I would say that this would add to it in meaningful way. As for why I think this should be implemented... Of course it is nothing great and only a minor thing, but I feel like it would add a small ammount of personal touch to peoples IDs. If you lose your ID, the new one will have only blank slot. https://i.gyazo.com/974e1a294a5a8521cbaa067a1b284fe5.png (In case the image doesn't show.) (12 hrs after posting this...) EDIT: I forgot about several important problems when I originally wrote this, so, uh. I'll add them here. Of course facial hair could be a thing there as well. But that might need some tweaking I believe. I said "No haircuts." but that doesnt sound that good to me any-more. I am not sure about the ammount of work requied to make this represent haircuts, but yeah. It might not look very good without them. (Sigh. This is more complicated than I believed in the beginning.) As for other races... I do not think it should be much differend from humans. Same issues with individual "haircuts". Bigger issue might be IPCs, and I am quite honestly not sure what to do about these. Do they take pictures with screen on? Maybe covering the face with the preset square representing the screen... I don't know. This just got way more complicated.
  2. Jan was whole 9 votes short?! I blame that damned telecomms scripting!
  3. Overhauling telecomms scripting is something that should be done carefully, as it would heavily depend on opinions and ideas presented. There are several ways to do stuff, and it should be discussed and agreed on which are non-ideal. I think that enabling "$source" for everyone could be a problem. Probably not. But it might be. Reason is usual. Abuse. Adding only prefixes and suffixes to the source part cannot be abused that much, and always leaves the original name, so people can either believe or check that prefix themselves. This is one thing of many, that do not need, but could see some attention, if we want them to work. That said, yeah. I agree with adding "$prefix" and "$suffix" variables. But I would not agree with fully enabling "$source" again. I also wanted to mention out of the topic: Generally said. I do not think people would just go and abuse it. But I also do not believe in said solution as "these individuals would be quickly dealt with". I mean, it is hard to say what counts as telecomms abuse. Applying script without permission of any responsible person? Applying script that would negatively tamper with peoples speech? I am sure many people did this before. And I am sure they were not punished (Including me. Humm.). And unless you do something that really stands out, like using it to spam or post offensive content, I do not think people would get rid of annoyance abusing telecomms resembles. So yeah. I hope what I wrote here makes sense, at least.
  4. All fine, it is your opinion. And what do you think about the mechanic applied to Crew Transfer vote?

    Voting

Some people say, that others will vote for what they want, no matter the influence. And some say that it is issue of these people only, that they cast a biased vote. Now, I mean. I heard about two random people say it. So I have no idea about the rest. But I disagree at least with these two people. First, you could bring up the "no influencing rule", which was supposted to take care of the issue (as far as I know (I mean, what else...)). Well it is no longer in effect and I do not think either keeping it or removing it changed anything much about the way we vote. However there is this second issue. And that is the fact that you know what others vote for. And sometimes, this will make you biased even if you dont want to. So, my suggestion is, to hide all these numbers next to voting options, telling you how many people voted for that particular choice. You would be forced to vote blindly and the way you actually want to. Unless there is something I am not accounting for... Anyways, that is about it. I am not going to go into details as in "staff will be able to see numbers, which and why", because that is just the matter of how you want it, and how you imagine it. I mean, this idea could end terribly. And result in nothing else than secret being voted in.... But it is generally meant for the CT vote. So we could have like... unknown votes only for that. So I would like to ask you people for your opinions on the general idea of this suggestion. (I also very much hope nobody suggested this before. Since there were talks about voting already, it is not that easy to check.)
  6. You all are talking about eating potatoes, while I don't like them at all. Apart from the mashed variant, with some milk and salt. But else? I hate the taste.
  7. I will probably say what I have in mind about this. First, as far as I may aware there are things IRL you can totally do after being told, because they are just following steps, even if they are part of more complex whole. Pushing few buttons in an order, checking components for specific signs of damage or soldering stuff (and the SS13 version of following steps, like setting up SM). Now while you were told what to do in the lab and you can do it, you are still not allowed to enter the lab itself, because you are not qualified, you do not know the theory behind it and you dont know how it actually works. The stuff school will teach you, so that employers do not hire trained monkeys, but actual engineers. Fumiko can setup a station shield generator all fine. But I doubt she knows how it works. Then the thing about caring. Its not like people would not care. I think people do care. But not enough to do something about it. And I personally left that part to you (at least I hope I did). Given I had no idea this whole thing was an experiment. And last thing, the part about exploitation of this whole learning system. (I hope what I will say was nowhere in the text, might have missed it, but it is obvious anyway) The example with doctor deciding to join engineering. It seems like speed and question of learning SS13 mechanics ICly and not OOCly. I mean, the doctor can sure learn all engineering stuff, but ICly it would take (as it was stated already) signifcant time and effort. But OOCly you can sure learn all engineering stuff in a while, if you don't know it already. Now, the whole problem of SS13 is, yeah. Just pushing buttons (again, as it was stated already). If you somehow managed to make engineering work less plain and more complicated, it would probably help this problem, but it would also make this everyday clicking for everyone else just more tedious. So, yeah. I guess points for you for doing this, but you may well take part of the blame with you.
  8. As far as I know, you can only use blueprints to mark new areas. What I suggest, is you being able to view them to open up precise map of the station, with wiring and piping visible, as if you had the mapping window open. Now, the reason is mainly recreation of areas devastated by bombing (If that is even worth it), or blob, more commonly. Not to mention I kind of like the idea of being able to show someone something on the station map in person. Now, ahead of the basic idea, there are things that could improve that, like being able to draw on blueprints, show marked areas and the exact size they extend to and new areas as well. But I dont really find that necesarry, as opposed to the basic idea. As far as implementation goes, I really have no idea how hard would that be, but I can guess there are more ways to achieve this.
  9. Once I would completely agree with this, but well. Probably not today any more. I guess alternate title for engineer can never hurt. On one hand, I would prefer for the extra acess to be only grated to the engineer by head of department, as I am not quite sure what can happen, if you make telecomms acess that much more available. (And you may as well get rid of those turrets, as they will pose more risk than harm when people start using the area more frequently.) But on the other hand, if anyone would plan for events that would break or damage telecomms in a way that absolutely needs fixing, I dont want them to happen without anyone having acess to fix them. Other that that, there might still not be enough to do on telecomms (And playing with telecomms script is, at least for me, only for those special days of the year, rather than day after day.) encouraging people to simply play with the cript, however than may end up. Oh, and did you know you can make a script that will quite precisely simulate the Rise of Nar-Sie message? I certainly can see fun in that.
  10. I think, that while this may help explain tons of stuff, it will also make tons of stuff take a lot longer than needed. Usual things like writing a fax, taking items out of a locker, talking to someone (mainly talking to someone). All that will take sometimes ridiculous ammounts of time, at least how I see it. And I would say, that there are other things that could get adressed, instead of changing the time flow. I think I would agree to this, if this was not that drastic change in flow, however fitting it may be. 1 hour to 4 hours would be probably fine to me.
  11. Well, it is a very long guide. Containing almost all the information you need, or want. So far, I cant find any mistakes in it and I dont even believe there are some, because it seems that most of it was tested and checked. That said, if someone is looking for extended guide like this, I will gladly recommend it.
  12. Thank you a lot for those tips and approval. I guess I just needs to take some time, to get into those things. At least I hope that time is all I need. That said, I will certainly try to adjust or change some things, in the way I play Jan, but again, I guess I will see with time, what is better and what is not. So again! Thank you all a lot.
  13. Alright! First, I am really really grateful for all those responses and evaluations. So, thanks to you all. Now well, I was aware of the problem with interactions with other characters before I made my application, and it made me quite worried. So I decided to delay posting it, by about two weeks, trying to fix this aspect. Truly, it is not that easy as it seemed to me at first. I do not know what it is, if it is me forgetting to interact with others, or lack of oppurtunities, or me missing said opportunities, but I really hope it will get better with time spent here. Regarding Jan. Truth is, I am realy not sure about full personality of Jan myself. There were certainly situations where I had to ask myself "Would Jan do this?" And I could not answer. He was learning a lot during his life, and this would be his first bigger experience in commanding, but I would say, that if it is needed, he can make decisions and if that is not enough... well. Then it is just not enough.
  14. BYOND key: TheGreatJorge Character names: Jan Fischer, pAI Leonardo How long have you been playing on Aurora?: I think it is three months now. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I am honestly not sure. Maybe it is just the position of Head of Staff I want to play. Maybe it is just another option for me. And maybe, it is a way to have a bit more fun, because often, I am really bored while playing this game. No matter which one it is, I just do. Why did you come to Aurora?: The last server I was playing on simply disappeared, so I decided, that I will try it here. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: I think I did, once long time ago. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: I think, that roleplay is simply doing something differend than what you are doing, or pretending that you are somebody else. No matter what are you pretending to do, or be, I think it should have some pruporse. Education, Fun, Explanation and so on. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: I think OOC pruporse of Head of Staff in game is to fill out missing positions, to take some responsibility and to provide differend oppotrunities for themselves or other people. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Whitelist is something you get for free and it gives you some kind of advantage over other players. I would say, that main thing is, to not abuse this advantage, and to repay by acting in a reasonable way. Contributing to fun, roleplay and good mood. That said, I would try my best to do what I just stated, but of course, I have no idea how can I manage that, without situations that call for it. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Jan Fischer Character age: 35 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Jan was born on Earth, January 22nd year 2424, to average family living in one of towns, ouside big cities. His father was a dentist and his mother was a secretary of town mayor. From his young age, he was amazed by technical advantages of modern world and on the other hand, amazed by stories and books of the old one. His father was the cause of his dislike for everyone in the medical field, when his own health was concerned, adding to his fear of needles. His hobbies made him study field of automatization, and in the end of his studies, to aquire Engineering Degree. After that, he started to work for Grayson Manufacturing company, as inexperienced repair technician. It was interesting introduction to the world of work for him, but after two years, when his contract expired, he decided to leave and apply for job elsewhere. Thanks to his mothers relation with mayor of his hometown, he was hired to Aether Atmospherics company as part of system designer team. His position there was not great, he was given small tasks of solving individual problems up to fetching lunch for his colleagues. Leading and senior members of the team, had acess to blueprints of individual stations, and he always wished to see them, but he was never lucky enough. During second half of his employment with Aether, he was sent to stations as part of the construction crew, to install designed systems, which was his most valuable experience there. Then, famous company NanoTrasen, hired him, as they were looking for people to fill out missing positions left by deceased employees. This led Jan, to rescue vessel Sierra Otago, where his job was to assist rescue team and perform ship mainetance, along with many other crewmembers. Two years passed once again, and two days before his contract was about to end, he witnessed a terrible accident, leading to destruction of ship engines. Deep investigation proved his co-worker Anthony Lawrence guilty, but on his way to Sol prison, he disappeared. After that, he was assigned to calmer place, the Interstellar Communications Satellite Orion, where under command and guidance of senior members of the team, he managed to survive another two years with NanoTrasen. All this time meant a lot to him as he was newly assigned to research station located deep deep in space, far away from his relatives. He said farewell to his family and friends, and boarded employee transport ship, starting yet another two years of his employment with NanoTrasen. What do you like about this character?: It is his physical obedience. He will not fight, or struggle, unless he really needs to. If he can use words, he will. If he cant, he will cover, or pray. That makes things easier, but there are certain situations where you just have to fight. With those, I may not be so careful, I admit. But that doesnt change the fact, that this is the thing I like most about Jan. What do you dislike about this character?: Honestly, there is nothing I dislike about him. He has lots of things I like about him. Then, lots of things I dont mind. But what do I dislike? Nothing. I am fine with his flaws, his attitude and if there is something, that could trouble me, it is the way I play him. Not Jan himself. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: His experience, skills, and loyalty to NanoTrsen, or any other company he may work for. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: Well, I dont use emotes as often as I should. I am prone to typos and grammar mistakes. And I would say, that I dont have much experience with roleplaying, even after all the time I spent with Space Station 13. That said, I give myself 4,5/10. Extra notes: Grammar may be trouble for me, so please. Be kind.
