+1 He is a pretty cool guy, the crybaby bitch thing was an inside joke between the two of us, we're actually buds. Anyway, he's pretty much the polar opposite of me (meaning good) so I think he should get some kind of shot. I mean, thats what trials are for right? -

William is a total legend character. I loved roleplaying with this dude and all of his characters, but William really stood out for me. Anyway, long story short this guy is really good at roleplaying and I would have no problems seeing him with a Tajara whitelist. +1 -
[Denied] DaBurs Head of Staff Application ²
DaBurs replied to DaBurs's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
My last application was denied because literally nobody left any feedback in 6 whole days, I've been actively asking people to leave good or bad feedback on my application since then so when I say I appreciate the feedback it isn't sarcastic. I understand why you might think that, though. Thanks for the feedback. -

BYOND Key: DaBurs Total Ban Length: Antagonist Ban Banning staff member's Key: Scheveningen Reason of Ban: Antagonist banned with chance to appeal after two weeks for not properly roleplaying as an antagonist, and attacking without roleplay. Reason for Appeal: I was given a two week grace period where I could observe other antags and play purely as a non-antag to see how they go about properly roleplaying. In those two weeks I learned a lot, and saw many different ways to play as an antagonist the proper way. Ghosting during some rounds after death, I observed how antagonists lured their targets with misdirection and confronted them before making their move. How antagonists usually tend to set their own specific goal, and work the round to achieve it through roleplay, whether it was prisoner exchange, item exchange or target elimination. I feel like after this grace period I was given the chance to see the type of cunning it takes when playing an antagonist and how to properly incorporate that into my own roleplay. Besides this, I did plenty of roleplay myself as a non-antag over the last two weeks. Made many friends in a few different departments and through roleplay, expanded my knowledge on how some systems work and others do not. Enjoyed my time playing as a Diona, their slow and relaxed playstyle tempering how brash I once was to a degree and giving me insight and perspective on the finer details of interacting with other people.

[Accepted] Yonnimer's Diona Whitelist App
DaBurs replied to Yonnimer's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Some good things: I see him around a lot as his bartender, and he usually does a pretty alright job with roleplaying. Some criticism: His character backstory is only a single paragraph, and is really lacking. -
BYOND key: DaBurs Character names: Prismatic Stars in Cosmos - Scientist Hugh Ellrich - Phoron Researcher David 'The Bear' Voigt - Janitor (Currently) Ka'Akaix'Hektu Zo'Ra - Electrician Wu Ziang - Crime Scene Investigator Simon Straub - Journalist How long have you been playing on Aurora?: A ruh-eeely long time. Years. Probably first joined in 2014. Got pretty seriously into it late 2015, and finally made a forum account in the first quarter of 2016. Now, it's late 2017 and here I am. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: Mostly to roleplay Prismatic as being a Dionae Research Director. I think that would be pretty interesting, seeing how rare people who main Diona are. Why did you come to Aurora?: To make friends and roleplay. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: I have, and I'm humbled by the special tasks a Research Director has to undertake in terms of working prevention, instead of production. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: I think roleplay in it's core element is getting the chance to live your life temporarily through the eyes of another person, or even species. To get to experience some amazing things in the world that you never will in real life. To go through some of the worst experiences aswell, that you'll never have to deal with in real life and to grow from them. To bond and connect with people over both the good and the bad. In the end, this is also what roleplay should be about. To roleplay is to interact with others as much as it is to react to your environment. A way to escape with a group of other people, if only for a few hours and to experience an entirely different universe. That's what I think roleplay is, and what it's about. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: I think out of character, a Head of Staff is expected to have a certain level of maturity when it comes to handling OOC conflicts where admin intervention is avoidable or unnecessary. A Head of Personnel should be there to dissuade people from doing things they know they shouldn't be in that area, but also help them when they don't know what to do. It goes without saying as a Head of Staff you're the leader of your area- and should act like a beacon for both experienced and new players around you. Being in this position means you have realize that you're supposed to act as an example to the people in your department, because you'll be remembered for the things you say and do. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Prismatic Stars in Cosmos Character age: As a Diona, I'm not sure this entirely applies. Being made up of multiple organisms, each with their own age and all. Let's say all of the nymphs that make up Prismatic are over the age of 30? In all seriousness, this is sort of a grey area. Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Prismatic was originally something of a Dionaea diplomat, acting more as a gift to the Human-Skrell joint force - sent after the infamous power plant incident. Working as a faint voice of reason between the three species as they furthered their scientific research and communication with his race, Prismatic often traveled between the Diona craft and the vessels of the human and Skrell to relay further information and sometimes packages to these stations. However, one fatal incident aboard a Nanotrasen in-between shuttle would show Prismatic's inner worth as a cluster. High air pressure caused by unknown tamperings and a remote signaller upon an air, and nitrous oxide canister being shipped cracked even the reinforced windows, and time would soon run short for those aboard. Reacting as quickly as could be processed, and with the intent of keeping relations stable between all the races, Prismatic broke the already cracking window- sending the pressure levels to a safer level. The fibrous roots of Prismatic would rip and tear slowly as the vacuum of space tried to violently rip him, and the rest of the crew out into it. However, the Dionaea held strong- using himself as a block in the hold just long enough for a brave engineer to inflate a large wall of air to take his place. As crewmembers who had exposed to unfortunate amounts of N20 would describe it, in this moment of high pressure and nitrous oxide the Dionaea before them appeared to have shimmering and glowing roots. This clear hallucination of the drugged and pressurized crewmembers lead to the cluster of nymphs adopting the name he know identifies as. Remembering the Diona's bravery after it's collective graduation from Solis Cognito University in conjunction with it's discovered aptitude for science, Prismatic was accepted into a Research Director position. (This backstory is an edited version of the original backstory for the whitelist. Originally I was going to play an engineering role with this character, but retconned this into a science role after greatly enjoying my time in the department.) What do you like about this character?: I like playing a character who is very curious and thoughtful, who likes to try every possible solution to any given situation. This is a design by his race, which I also greatly found myself to enjoy. I'm honored to play a Diona, and feel relaxed playing one. It's all about putting one tendril in front of the other and getting the job done at your own slow, planty pace. What do you dislike about this character?: As a Diona, it's a character where you aren't always completely receptive to suggestions. Diona are perceived as intelligent on their own, and when you think you're the smartest on in the room when it isn't always true you're bound to ignore some pretty credible suggestions by your fellow co-workers. At the same time, not being a species seen too much around the station in conjunction with that same sense of curiosity the species has leads you to being a big unknown in people's eyes. When people don't know what to make of you, it's harder to connect with them. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: I think this Diona has the ambition to push research further, the friendly attitude that's already made itself a large group of friends in the science department to push away stigmas about it's species, and the wisdom from past scientific endeavours to know when things will not work out. Underneath his 'soft petals' can be a hard lump of oak, sturdy and true and ready to lead his team of scientists- and Nanotrasen, towards a brighter future. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: In the past I could have done a lot more in terms of roleplaying as an antagonist- I've mentioned this before in my race whitelist apps, but when it comes to roleplaying outside of that I know I'm capable if I want to be, and I really want to be now. I've already been accepted into the Vaurca and Diona whitelists and roleplaying as both species has opened my eyes to different styles of RP and I believe, and hope, improved me as a person. I'm not pulling any punches here, or holding anything back with this answer. I've done bad before. I'm not pure, and I never can wipe that slate clean entirely- but I'll still try hard to not be a blemish to the server. Extra notes: As always, thanks for giving me the opportunity to write this application.

1) After splitting your gestalt into multiple nymphs, you should be able to assume control of another nymph directly by double clicking it. This would be lore-friendly as nymphs are interconnected and work together as a collective. This would be helpful and improve the game for Dionae by adding an actual function to their nymphs, other than to sit there motionless until absorbed for growth. 2) Give a nymph to morph into a colossus form Dionae at 8400 growth points. This colossus would be even slower than regular worker Dionae, which themselves are excruciatingly slow, but incredibly robust. A real workhorse form that would take serious time for a nymph to bulk up to be able to morph into, very useful for manual labor or last-ditch defense during a station emergency. If each absorbed nymph is worth roughly 700 growth as I've tested in-game, then 12 nymphs would be equal to 8400 growth. 12 nymphs is the lore-provided number for how many roughly make up a Colossus. 3) Have Plant-B-Gone cause extreme toxic damage to Dionae upon contact. Pretty self-explanatory.

[Accepted] MFalco's IPC Whitelist Application
DaBurs replied to MFalco's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Hey, for what its worth I roleplayed with this guy before and he was fun to be around as his Vaurca Kee. Not that my words hold too much weight, but I'd totally support seeing him run around as an IPC. +1 -
BYOND Key: DaBurs Character Names: Hugh Ellrich (Phoron Researcher) Ka'Akaix'Hektu Zo'ra (Electrician) David "The Bear" Voigt (Janitor) Species you are applying to play: Dionaea What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Exempt due to species. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: The Dionaea physiology and "culture" (or lack thereof) is extremely intriguing to me. The idea of truly being apart of something bigger than yourself, similar to the hivemind that are the bound Vaurca, is very appealing to me. I have also always had a high interest in plant-like species in any game, and the idea of being made up of various diona paired with a natural connection (and sometimes, tension) with the Skrell race could lead to some interesting roleplay. From what I understand, the Dionae are naturally passive. Being seen as a rather passive and harmless race instead of a claw or fang bearing one would make for a generally more relaxed roleplaying experience. Adding to this, a tip of the round was to apply for this interesting race if you have troubles with being an antagonist. A perfect fit for me. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Roleplaying a Dionaea will be a point of unknown for many people, confused by the mass of bushes they see walking before them. Being a highly intelligent race, it would be nice to roleplay these plant-like workers. A sense of natural curiosity that even rivals humanity's own curiosity is a staple of Dionaea-kind and that same intrigued curiosity mixed with your naturally expansive nature will have a Dionaea exploring around with all the possibilities in their field. Playing most races can have you feeling really rushed in life. Unknowing of your role, running around the station to put out fires constantly. With playing a Dionaea I feel like you'll have the chance to look around you, really take in what happens to the station and play as a calm observer. Character Name: Prismatic Cosmos in the Starlight Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Prismatic was originally something of a Dionaea diplomat, acting more as a gift to the Human-Skrell joint force - sent after the infamous power plant incident. For the Dionaea's bravery and clear resistance to the harsh realities of being exposed to space, he would soon be offered an engineering job aboard the station. What do you like about this character? I like a character who can explore his own collectiveness, own personality and personalities, what makes up who and what he is. A Dionaea that perhaps, if he can help and learn of everyone different than himself, can in return learn more about himself in kind. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I'm currently getting a grasp of how to be a better antagonist, but outside of that I enjoy roleplaying with fellow engineers on my Vaurca, and scientists on Hugh and for the most part the feelings are mutual. I would say outside of being an antagonist, I'm good on most fronts. Notes:

Ckey/BYOND Username: DaBurs Position Being Applied For Vaurca Loredev Past Experiences/Knowledge: Wrote lore for multiple SeriousRP servers on Garry's Mod for HL2RP and StalkerRP servers. Do you play Vaurca extensively? Why? God, yes. I love the Vaurca as a race. They were my first whitelist, and only whitelist. Why do I play them? Simple answer: They're truly unique in my eyes. It takes a special kind of person to want to roleplay as a physically unappealing race that is looked down upon in society. If you see a Vaurca player, you know they're in it for the roleplay and not the sleek fur/scale aesthetic of some of the other races. Although I'm sure most of the people who play those races are excellent roleplayers. I was nearly devastated at the negative feedback Vaurca once got, and was one of the staunch supporters of the race during the time of Vaurca turmoil where it was being decided if the race would be replaced as a whole with a vote. If you were chosen for Lore Developer, what would your plans be for Vaurca? Suggested talking points: The nature of VR. Virtual in my eyes has a lot of untapped potential. I think I'd like to dig deeper into the societal complexities of being in. I think the Orwellian/Wachowski/Huxley connections already established in the subtext could be doubled down on. This is a complete dystopia where more compassionate unbound should be making visible efforts to free the bound they see as victims who have been swindled and milked for the fruits of their labour. Expanding on that aspect of the lore, and how it should effect Vaurca-on-Vaurca roleplay would be one priority. The nature of Unbound and Bound. From a gameplay perspective, I think it'd be more appropriate if the Vaurca if they had their cybernetics even more drastically implemented into the game than they already are. Flashes and EMP weakness is great but the strengths are honestly sort of lacking. Having to constantly breathe phoron and consume k'ois to restock is counterproductive for what your role aboard the station ultimately goes toward. Being able to breathe Phoron is great, but perhaps some cybernetic lungs let them process oxygen as well? For as much as I love Vaurca, not a lot of people do. Compared to other races, their downsides are a bit heavy on the scales compared to the upsides. Having already the trait of disliking light, would it be too far-fetched to give them a built-in set of eyes that can see in the dark, or thermally? I think not. The nature of Vaurca's overall status in the galaxy. I feel the overall sentiment of the Vaurca by the majority of the station is as their relationship is with all of Humanity: strained. I feel like that sentiment could be, however, downgraded to a constant caution instead of a perpetual passive-aggressiveness as Humanity and other races took a slightly more sorried and pitied stance towards the species. But at the same time, those fears of invasiveness aren't at all unwarranted. The Vaurca aren't slowing down- and whether people see that as a pox on the Universe slowly spreading, or signs that real change and efforts will have to be attempted by other species to help the Vaurca as a whole find their place in a galaxy everyone else can live in will ultimately cause some inner political conflicts and real decisions with those outside races. Would you embark on major or minor rewrites of Vaurca lore? If yes, why is your rewrite worth it? The Vaurca groundwork and lore is wonderful, like a mighty foundation for which a beautiful home will be built. I see no reason to tear down that foundation and start from scratch. I think all the lore needs now is advancement and tweaks, and with the right ingredients it has the potential to turn into something even greater than it already is. post-script: I really hope my past experiences on the server, on the Station don't reflect how much I can get into and love lore. I started a Warhammer40k thread awhile back for that reason alone, and I really do consider myself someone who enjoys and is enthralled by the lores set in a sci-fi space setting. Thank you.
-
Yes Scheveningen, that sounds like a really good opportunity to learn about how to properly antag without causing problems for other people. I agree to all those terms happily, thank you for letting have an opportunity to see how other antags drive roleplay appropriately so that someday I might have a real grasp on how to do it in the right way myself.
-
Yes, we all know I've been banned before but I always accepted what I did was wrong then. Now is different, I just wanted to do the right thing and drive conflict in the best way I could think of with the job I was rolling with. I think our definition of crater must be different, because I can make bombs capable of turning nearly the entire view distance into space but purposely held off on that. Look, even if I messed up in the end because I misinterpreted the permissions the admins gave me, or admins misinterpreted what i was asking from them it wasn't with malicious intent at heart. Please know that. I could have struck the medbay, security and shuttles all at once and killed half the server if I really wanted to be a malicious, vile, game-ruiner. I admit I have really hard times grasping what exactly antagonists are supposed to do. How they're really supposed to be storytellers, or how they go about doing that. I probably should have spent more time observing them and yeah, I wish I could but hindsight is 20/20. Look, I'm sorry I was frustrated in my ban appeal but I just wanted to express how I felt.
-
Alberyk, I'd totally agree with you if this ban was justified. But it's not. I have the evidence on my side, if I really just wanted to cause drama I wouldn't have asked the admins at all. And even though certain areas got spaced, I did not cause massive collateral damage. I could have left three craters if I wanted, my bombs only broke the tilings and walls to some degree- and nobody but myself was gibbed. If this ban was fully justifiable, and I was appealing for a shortened ban I would be in agreement with you but I feel this ban was uncalled for entirely.
-
Sorry, didn't see the format when I glazed over it. Editing now. Edit: Editing finished.

BYOND Key: DaBurs Staff BYOND Key: Scheveningen Game ID: bQM-aAw8 - Added by Aboshehab Reason for complaint: Scheveningen has given a completely bias and uninformed response to my ban appeal and I'd very much like someone else to look it over for me. It's completely unjustifiable what he's done. Evidence/logs/etc: Checking the game logs for the round where the incident took place, or asking yourself, Alberyk explicitly gave me permission to use bombs during the round. And while not directly giving me permission, it was implied by Garnascus that it *should* be okay to bomb one of the bombing targets Scheveningen specifically complained about. The simple fact is, permanent bans should be handed out to actual minges and griefers. I asked many different admins many times and informed my partner in-game even of what my plans were for those bombs, I did not act randomly and out of the blue. Thank you. Additional remarks: Locations of each of the bombs goes as follows: 1.) Janitorial trash chute room, where trash goes. Empty. 2.) The library. Empty. 3.) The hallways above medbay (I believe. Medbay itself was left undamaged, however the hallways and windows were). There were two people there, security officers who both escaped from the initial explosion alive (One officer dragged the second away from the explosion site). Number of people gibbed/killed on impact by the bombs: 1. Myself. The last explosion which I applied to myself was to make sure attention was fully drawn away from the other changeling, who was also a scientist and had full access to the toxins lab. I did this in order to assure all eyes would be on me instead of him, as I was surrounded and capture was imminent. Thank you.
-
Holy cow, I've never read a response more verbose than that. Try less, Scheveningen, the administration team is surely already impressed. I personally considered filing a staff report against you for grievously misbanning and abusing power, but I reconsidered because I knew it would be pointless. I'm going to continue to wait for replies from more people on the administration team and get their input, although I appreciate yours.
-
Okay, I accept responsibility for that- hindsight is 20/20 and one bomb could have gotten the message across, but still when I asked if it was okay to place bombs around I used the plural, and nobody told me I should limit myself to one.I'm sorry I caused a shitshow but it was definitely in part by the misconceptions and miscommunications I got in answers to my ahelp queries. I mean, give me some credit there, at least I actually talked to a few different admins about it before I went on to do it.
-
I asked and re-asked if it was okay to bomb places where people where and I thought we were all cool with it. Alber gave me the greenlight to bomb areas where no people were occupying, like the library and the janitor garbage dump- and I detonated the bomb by the bridge because I was corned by security, but I did it knowing that I'd live and they could escape wounded, which they did, I did it to take suspicion from the other changeling in the round. And they weren't all detonated at the same time spontaneously, I purposely staggered them to not lag the server and I purposely made them weaker than I could have to not cause extreme, massive collateral damage. I also announced ICly multiple times in changeling hivechat before I began the bombing, that I was going to start the bombings. So I'm sorry a couple of people died to low pressure, but if I really meant for the bombs to be used for a casualty count it would have been many people dying to being gibbed- and more than just three bombs going off.
