MattAtlas
BYOND Key: - MattAtlas Character Names: - https://i.imgur.com/iEvaTca.png Species you are applying to play: - Vaurca What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): - RGB 20,20,55 Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: - Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: - Vaurca, to me, are recently the only species that I felt were actually alien. After applying for Skrell and Unathi, I realized I wanted to play something that was more alien. And the Vaurca fit that description perfectly. They are immensely different from any other species, being insectoid and not humanoid in nature, having a hivemind, thriving on a substance harmful to just about every other species and so on. The differences are quite frankly too many to list, and that makes me want to play the species. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: - This question, in my case, overlaps with the previous one. But let's go over the main differences again. First of all, the Vaurca are, more importantly, divided in Unbound and Bound, where the Unbound are the only ones that have the concept of 'free will', while the Bound are simply drones that obey orders. There is a distinction between Warrior and Worker vaurcae as well, they view the world differently than other species do, they have their own different hives and so on. There is just so much to list, but that is the gist of it. Character Name: Ka'Akaix'Eni C'thur Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs One larva was destined to be an unbound worker. That larva was, indeed, going to be 'numbered' as Eni. It began its life much like any other Unbound. A six month cycle of maturing for its brain to fully mature. After that, a neural socket was implanted into Eni. This is when its VR period began. In Vytel's VR, Eni had learnt much about the Skrellian pop culture. The streams of information coming from the real world about the Skrell were always quite fascinating-- though Eni prefered the aspects of Skrellian construction and engineering. It had learnt about the Skrellian architecture, how the Skrell lived in their houses and what needs the architecture accomodated. It had learnt about Jargon's terraforming and the advancements that the Skrell have accomplished in recent years, relating to engineering works. The megastructures were also quite fascinating-- such huge and wonderful constructions. Obviously, that is not all that was learnt in the VR. Skrellian pop culture was also of interest, film and cinema especially. Mainly about why the Skrell enjoyed films, and what kind of films they enjoyed. The VR was a peaceful place to Eni, a place where it could learn all it wanted. After those six months of VR, Eni's growth was now complete. It was ready. The jump from heaven to the real world was not pleasurable to say the least-- but it had to do what it had to do. It would need to start catering to its needs, and it would need to be careful about ailments that were not in the VR. It would need to be careful about survival as well, something that was not a worry in heaven. Now, what did it have to do? Obviously, Vytel's Hive had more warriors than workers. Eni was to perform construction duties-- more specifically, it was tasked to assisting the Skrell in colonial construction efforts. This is where it could practice the knowledge that it learnt in the VR, and see if it was applicable to the real world. For a few years, Eni's existance was devoted to construction and maintenance of Skrellian colonies. A peculiar offer, eventually, did come-- Nanotrasen wanted to hire new Vaurcae, and Eni was one of them. The offer was accepted, and it was transfered over as a station engineer. This experience would've been much different than its previous ones, of course. What do you like about this character? - This ties into one of the previous questions. I like this character because it is alien. There will obviously be many issues that Eni would come across that weren't there before. Other species being one of them, more discrimination as well, members of different hives and such. I believe this will be very fun to roleplay, and provide a good dynamic. How would you rate your role-playing ability? - I do not like rating my roleplay skills on a scale of 1 to 10 -- it doesn't represent skill well. I'll say I'm an average roleplayer. I can separate myself from my character and can make decent stories. I can get into my character's mindset as well, but there are issues I have. Mainly with coming up with interesting character stories. Link to comment
DronzTheWolf
I can vouch for MattAtlas, I was a good friend with one of their skrell and it was very wholesome. +1 Link to comment
CommanderXor
I've interacted with Matt a few times in the game, mostly antag situations but outside of that his characters seem great and he's a blast to roleplay with. I think he'd be able to tackle playing a Vaurca quite easily, and probably better than I can. Hah. Definitely a +1 from me. I hope to see you playing a buggo-boy soon. Link to comment
Bygonehero
A solid application. Giving your character personality is important, and you've done so very subtly in your application. I will love to see how you develop your character on the station. Application accepted. Link to comment
