CommanderXor
BYOND Key: CommanderXor Character Names: Sean Richter, Rosey Woods, Edward Cane, Jackson Holiday, Romeo Patton, Tallow Winters, Jess Flanderen, O.I.U-156, Ka'Akaix'Mizor C'thur, Ka'Akaix'Vizea C'thur, Ka'Akaix'Yava C'thur, Ka'Akaix'Tela C'thur, Talon, Chemzie, Hawk, Hark, Amber. Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Blue/Azure Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've always wanted to make a character that was a Unathi, but I never felt like I would be able to properly play a non-human in the past so I never bothered to actually apply for them. However, recently having played both Vaurca and IPCs, I've worked up the courage to play more alien races. I believe that there would be something fun about playing a reptilian humanoid that is typically honor and caste/class bound and the possible things that may occur from such both by my character, and from others interacting with them. Ultimately it boils down to wanting to play something that isn't your average human or cold-calculating robot. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Well, there are various differences. Looking at them purely biologically you obviously have to account for the species-difference. They dislike cold, much like other reptilian animals and are obviously largely carnivorous barring the odd decoration/garnish. This can help spiral roleplay along as they may ask the chef to prepare more meat-rich food, may hunt pests onboard if they were in the security department. They may shy from things like the cold-room and may seek out warmer sections of the station hypothetically. You then, of course, have the social differences. Unathi seem to be very rigid in their social castes, with honor and loyalty to the clan and superiors. First names being taboo unless trusted and the likes. Subtle body language such as thumping their tails in annoyance rather than typically speaking their troubles out vocally. Chuffing, sampling the air and other various things help make them seem more foreign than a normal human and can create unique roleplay if a human didn't understand, or even if a Unathi didn't understand a human gesture. Character Name: Yezarye Gukuzan Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Yezarye was born on Moghes, but was abandoned at birth by her unknown parents. She was placed in an orphanage running under the Gukuzan title. Most of her childhood was mostly related to around the usual domestic duties women would have been expected to undertake. Cleaning, cooking and general other upkeep of a family and household. Religious teaching was harshly enforced, she learned to write and read, albeit only the bare minimum needed to do her duties. Often she was ridiculed for the fact she was not the standard scale color, but rather a deep azure. This could have helped contribute to her not getting adopted throughout her stay in the orphanage. Never the less she kept getting educated, instilling the traditional values of the Unathi caste and religious life for a woman of her nature all while the bills for her upbringing continued to rack up. Eventually, she reached the age of 18 and having not been adopted she was pressured into signing a contract with NanoTrasen like many other Gukuzan orphans. She lacked any major skills that most people entering into a field with NanoTrasen would have, and such she had to work with what she had and was given a dual-contract to work as both cleaning staff and kitchen staff on NanoTrasen vessels. A majority of her earnings went straight back to the Gukuzan orphanage and what little she had left was spent on food and housing. With very little money to spend on herself, she has entered a sort of cycle. Constantly reminded of her place, cooking and cleaning to try and make a living all while it is sent back to Moghes. The teachings of both her social place and religious knowledge constantly keeping her in line, all while the liberalism of Tau Ceti dangles in front of her face, trying to twist and bend her. What do you like about this character? I like the conflict that may arise within her at the clash between the old teachings on Moghes, coupled with the religious element and that of the Tau Ceti/Human democracy and equality. How may it play out, to constantly clean and serve food to her superiors and the crew, while some may urge her to seek out better education, while her entire childhood tries to discourage any such things and the internal conflict that could build from it. Trying to play within the socially accepted bounds of Unathi culture would also be a fun thing to handle with her as she tries to follow her teachings and remain proper. Seeing how the world affects her will be a slow, but enjoyable process. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Like in my past applications, I view myself as a mediocre roleplayer. I enjoy a good story and I frequented the serious roleplay servers on Clockwork Half Life 2 before they fell out of popularity. I started rather rigid and liking larger actions but I soon moved to SS13 HRP servers after CWHL2RP stopped being active. I originally started in Baystation, and then to Polaris before settling on Aurora. While I would love to see large actions like in CWHL2RP, a lot of things on SS13 are mechanically spoken for and thus I let mechanics speak for combat and the likes unless both parties are attempting to craft a story via text. Otherwise, I enjoy passively world and character building with others. Notes: N/A. Link to comment
Butterrobber202
-10000 knockoff Guwan get out It’s an okay story, but Xor tends to play well enough that I don’t see a major reason for them not to get the whitelist, and most of my interactions with Ritcher (antagging aside) have been pretty positive. So ye +1 Link to comment
TheSleepyCatmom
I personally just don't enjoy Guwan characters. In my opinion it's a little too easy to write a Guwan Orphan, as they're all about the same in terms of upbringing and there's not much diversion. Not like I can talk, I wrote a dang Maraziite as my whitelistee. I haven't had many interactions with their characters, however they have been positive so far. So a negative and a positive in my regards, so I'd say it's a +1/-1, I can't lean too far in either direction. I'm unsure how they'll play their character wholly, but I look forward to seeing it if they're accepted. + gives me another Orphan to pick on. Link to comment

CommanderXor
Don't Unathi orphans take the name of their orphanage now, according to the lore? Correct, hence why the last name is Gukuzan in this case. I personally just don't enjoy Guwan characters. I decided to make an orphan Gukuzan for my first character since I thought it would be interesting to play someone who has been taught since early birth to follow the classic Unathi teachings, along with the religious element. A rather conservative character, instead of anything too fancy. You know, establish someone that would be well grounded in the current lore/setting. Link to comment
Brutishcrab51
Alright then. On the topic of how competent CommanderXor is as far as characters go? He's great. Probably one of the first guys I RP'd with when I first joined Aurora, and I'd trust him with an Unathi character. I'm sure Jackboot shares my sentiment on this too. A lot of my reasons for supporting this are based in the small details of RP with CommanderXor's characters, and I've never been one for super long lists. I just think he's qualified. +1. Guest Marlon Phoenix
Hello! Sorry for the delay. Your Unathi is described as being instilled with the religious values of the Gukuzan and it's informed her upbringing and outlook on life. Can you describe what this means for her? What are the values she holds within the faith? The Unathi religions are intertwined very tightly with the culture so that they are almost one and the same. You mention she was ridiculed for being azure. This is definately an aspect of being an azure unathi. However it is also a described phenomenon that azure females are seen as exotic prizes - do you think she has had experiences of males trying to court her? How does she respond to her status as a desirable status symbol for suitors? These are areas I'd be interested in seeing you elaborate on. The areas of the character I do really like is her relationship within the Gukuzan. I appreciate that you have her locked in the debt cycle that the orphanages put their wards in. Link to comment

I'll try and break down some things you've asked to hopefully help expand on it a bit. On the wiki page it says that the Gukuzan teach alot of religion but doesn't specify which and I can't find a mention of Kiazoi on either the notable Unathi nor religion so I assume it's up to debate on which they teach. I'm going to assume that the orphanage likely leaned towards Sk'akh given its unofficial state religion status. She grew up adopting many of its teachings since she was at the orphanage since practically birth, given them a lot of time to work the teachings into her. She'll have a strong dislike towards synthetics, and very much have a Do-Not-Borg order placed on her own medical record, along with no prosthetic limbs being allowed to be administered to her. She pretty much sticks to her teachings and remains a 'normal' woman, cooking and cleaning. She'll very much stay away from non-Unathi as well, given the dislike the religious doctrine has for such, probably even finding it hard to make friends with non-Unathi. As for the Azure 'prize' question, she probably has been courted a fair few times by other Unathi but given the religious teachings of Sk'akh prize itself on arranged marriages between clans as a sort of political tool she has turned down any attempts to be wedded as she doesn't have a clan name to herself yet. Of course, now that she is out of the ward she might be more open to such if a powerful status rich Unathi took interest she might consider it. I hope the answers are satisfactory and if you need anything else just ask. Link to comment
Guest Marlon Phoenix
Thank you for your response! The Sk'akh faith is the only one that call members of its clergy Priests. The other faiths say shamans, monks, or just the one Messiah. But it isn't set in stone so it's not used against anyone; I wanted elaboration on who she is through her religion. You hit all the points I needed and elaborated pretty good. Application accepted! Link to comment
