ClearThoughts Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 BYOND Key: ClearThoughtsGame ID: bX2-cbM0Player Byond Key: Lichfield Agathus' Ckey is memescopemcgee Samuel Sandford's Ckey is riqpleydagasdStaff involved: Tbear13 . They stated they handled it in game after I asked if it would be better handled there. They responded to me saying they handled it. I did not feel however they were learning much of anything, and this is not to the detriment of Tbear13, but that I would like to make a further complaint to remove the detective from the security role, and to let the EMT know they aren't exactly representing the best interests of IAC. Spoiler Reason for complaint: Poor handling of an IC situation, bad judgment, and altogether failure to assess character traits over scenario. Explanation below: It started at the beginning of the round in the bar, as usual. I was playing Joseph Ward, freelance journalist. With nothing to report on, the man turns to the sauce. Tipsy enough, I pick up the cake hat and begin swapping the hair flower pin of Valerie Aquila ( ShesTrying ckey ) . Valerie begins arguing with Joseph. The Quartermaster, Sophia Cynthai, walks in to the scene. Valerie calls her to aid. Joseph puts his hands up, saying that he's not looking for a fight, but verbally antagonizes Sophia anyway. The jackets come off and the fight ensues, ending with Joseph pinning Sophia to a table and breaking her ribs, damaging her heart and lungs as a result. Sophia is hauled away to surgery, and the singular security officer issues Joseph a verbal warning. He hands Valerie the hairpin back, and the situation is settled. Turns out Sophia was an antagonist of the traitorous variety, and came back around half an hour later, killing Joseph with a semi-automatic rifle. Honestly, great roleplay. Loved the whole scene. However, this is where things..Went downhill. Sophia drags Joseph's corpse into the surface level cargo lobby. Cornered, the AI locks all the doors. At this time, the detective, alone, is trying to mediate the situation. His fear of her rifle was well played. Right up until he decided to walk face first towards her and stand three steps away while she was defiling the corpse of the late Joe Ward with a tactical knife, breaking the knife and then grabbing a Shuriken, trying to decapitate the corpse. The detective made no attempt to detain her, even with a security borg on site, and the AI on their side. Simply watching, commenting about the nicety of her rifle choice, making bets on the caliber, the psychopath, well played by the way, bartered the following: She would desist and come peacefully if the detective would get her something to decapitate the corpse with. The EMT, a fervent IAC representative, offered their circular saw from surgery. Accepting the deal, they stood and watched while Sophia emptied her rifle magazine onto the floor, reloading it one by one while another EMT went to grab the saw. The saw was then handed to Sophia by another security officer that showed up, all of which standing three squares away from this psychopath, providing her with a roller bed as well. Sophia then explained that she killed him "Because people like him deserve to die". The EMT automatically assumes the man must have been a child molester, see "Kiddie diddler", to no comment from Sophia, and responds with "good riddance.", assisting her in de-limbing the corpse and spreading his remains across the room by giving her all the tools necessary, and standing by as she did, watching. After the situation continued for, a good thirty minutes, the crew cleared out and the detective walked with the heavily armed individual calmly back to security, where he said "Well i cant process you, I dont have the authority", giving her a shower, where she, once again, disarmed herself and showered. The detective, standing by, idled time, rambling on about how he was "Different than other security officers" until she got out of the showers, and the two walked to the shuttle. The two even sat beside one another on the ride home, sharing smokes. The detective even offered to see her in prison during her sentence, calling her his friend. All the while the IAC EMT, states to everyone that can hear, "Yeah he was a kiddie-fiddler, good riddance" to anyone that asked about the scenario. AAAAAAAAA These snapshots might be out of order. Spoiler Her magazine is out, spilled bullets all over ground as she's reloading. Detective making small talk about her choice of firearm. Spoiler Note the antag never specified what he did. He stole a hairpin and beat Sophia up, and left her to medical attention. Sophia played a good psychopath in this scenario, playing on the BLUFOR's imagination. Spoiler Spoiler Shouting this before coming down the hallway, claiming IAC affiliation. Spoiler And then spreading word that the man isn't really as valuable to be saved, due to "bein a kiddie diddler" Spoiler At central, discussing with another crewmember, and the involved psychopath. Spoiler As they entered the shuttle. Spoiler Discussing on central that "I aint got the power, cant do it", having been making friendsies with the psychopath for the last half hour or so. Spoiler The request of a saw, her only demand. Multiple offers, even the IAC EMT offering a hatchet. Why? Lord knows. Also excitedly salty deadchat lol Spoiler Spoiler "The proper punishment" The only crime here is the one invented by the bystanders. If ever an ironically humorous situation as this. Spoiler Armstrong knew what was wrong. He didn't do much, but he did know the situation was fucked, at least. But still, the situation was not, at all, handled well by the bystanders. Derogatory accusations made entirely out of imaginations, mob-ruled into "Pedophile!" Spoiler "Here you go, heres the saw to decapitate the corpse of the pedo." Paraphrasing, obviously. It was all just so surreal. Spoiler "It'd be easier to defile the corpse if you used a flat surface" "Can I take the roller bed?" "Sure" Spoiler Amputation. The round ended with the detective saying : I'm not sure which I hate the most either, buddy And all in all, I had given her the flower pin back. So I'd like to say Thank you, Sophia, you gave great roleplay and poached a great scenario, giving the blufor multiple chances to come and take thee. I liked my murder. I thought it was well played and the roleplay was on point. I just wish the reactive roleplay was better.Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? I did ahelp it. However, I am still making a report. Tbear13 handled the concern post-round with the two, but I do not believe that summarized just how bad it was, and would like to put it in paper.Approximate Date/Time: 27DEC2018 , morning (CST)
stev Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 (edited) Hi, so I play Lichfield Agathus and yes, I stopped playing Bay about seven months ago. I just started playing here about a week ago. As I'm already involved in another complaint regarding this incident I'll see about responding here. So, first off, you seem to be glossing over the fact that, as an EMT, I really had no way of confirming if this dude was, as Sophia claimed, some kind of sexual predator. Lich assumed from the Detective's reaction of "Wasn't he already punished by the law?" that this was a known conviction and, as we were in an active shooter situation, she didn't exactly have the time to pull him aside and confirm. (See evidence of this dialogue below.) This alone didn't motivate getting the saw and cooperating with the armed psycho, of course, but it was a factor in making her feel less bad about this guy's already pretty beat up corpse getting further roughed up. As far as I'm OOCly aware this was a deliberate manipulation on Sophia's part, so I don't know why this is on me - a character with relatively few social graces getting tricked by an antag seems to be pretty standard fare, and I know plenty of people IRL let reason fly to the wind a little when faced with someone they believe to be a sexual predator, against kids or otherwise, so this really doesn't seem too unrealistic on that front. Next is the fact that Lich appeared to be getting friendly with Sophia. First off is the fact that avoiding aggravating the lunatic with a gun is generally considered a pretty good idea in these sort of situations, especially when there's only one Sec borg and a Detective who shouldn't even be dealing with combat at all on the scene. We both tried to calm her down, give her what she wanted. Further, as an EMT Lich would be well aware that there's a very good chance that the psycho with a gun who she personally witnessed having kicked a guy to death had a pretty high chance of taking at least one person with her if it came to a fight and, given there were only two Security there and one was just a Detective, there was a good chance she might overpower them and shoot Lich or take her hostage. She tried to get on the shooter's side by saying she sympathised with her, that she would have done the same thing and all that, to reduce the odds that Sec and by extension herself would get killed. This ended up becoming somewhat less of an act after she became convinced the psycho was just a vigilante killer and not an indiscriminate murder, allowing her to rationalise cooperating further and allowing a dead dude to get maimed a little more and, most importantly, not get shot herself by putting herself in the killer's mind as a friend. Finally there's the fact that the act itself, taking apart a dead body, is ultimately morally inconsequential with letting someone else get shot. Sure, it's grisly, but she's a pretty desensitised forty-five year old medic who spent most of that time in the Human Frontier. Watching an already dead body get sawn apart wouldn't be the worst thing a frontier IAC medic had seen, even if they were younger. Again, it helps mellow it a little if you let yourself believe that it's justified, that the woman in front of you isn't just a crazed bloodthirsty maniac and that, for example, the dead body is a convicted pedophile or something of the like. It's an ugly situation where you'd have to weigh between someone getting killed - possibly multiple, possibly including you - or giving the vigilante the revenge they seem to want and making sure everybody lives. I'd hesitate to say that's the wrong call. Moreover, I'd hesitate to say that the IAC would say that's the wrong call, as it's staffed in large part by medics who'd be able to look at the situation objectively and the support staff of medics who'd be able to look at the situation objectively. Would the IAC prefer one body getting cut up more before being cloned or two dead bodies that, if the killer had their way, could possibly get cut up just as much as the first one? I'd like to think they'd prefer the former. Also I dislike that these screenshots needlessly include random people in dsay shittalking me or saying I'm just some greytide idiot from Bay. Doesn't exactly seem to be in good faith, when some of these seem notable only for including people talking about what I did rather than showing what I did. Edited December 27, 2018 by stev
tbear13 Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 Alright, so, this complaint is pretty much redundant. It was already handled in round, so there really isn't a need to post here. I guess I'll just let another staff member archive this?
ShameOnTurtles Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 As tbear has said, this situation was handled on server. The player/character complaint rules state: If the infractions described in the complaint have already been dealt with by a staff member in-game, a player complaint will not change the outcome of this. If you feel that the outcome was unjust, you are encouraged to post in the Staff Complaints section of the forums. The EMT was warned and that has since been overruled. The detective was spoken to on server and the handling moderator determined they were justified which I agree with. I will leave this complaint open for 24 hours in case there are any closing comments.
