Ckey/BYOND Username: The Stryker

Position Being Applied For: (Species Maintainer, Wiki Maintainer, Lore Developer, Deputy Lore developer): Synthetic Lore Deputy

Past Experiences/Knowledge: None whatsoever.

Examples of Past Work:

With regards to synthetic lore, I haven’t written anything. With regards to lore in general and my writing style, I have the Port Terrence application in the lore canonization forum.

Here's an essay for my application and what I want to do with it, though.

Thank you for applying! Sorry for the delay in prodding you for any questions. You pretty much answered any obvious questions I might've had. Nonetheless!

What is your preferred management style? I am fairly hands off which may work swimmingly for some but others it might not.

Do you have any details as to how you would like to see the Trinary Perfection changed/added to? Not to worry if you have none at the moment. I have wanted to see more representation of it in game myself, but I haven't taken the opportunity to properly look at it. The lore as it stands is fairly big but perhaps it needs a certain spark.

As it stands currently, this is what we have for cyborgs on the wiki in regards to memory and personality.

Though, the procedure for creating a cyborg leaves the original individual it used to be broken, suppressed, and nearly impossible to recall. The MMI creates a synthetic synaptic interface with the host brain, but the preparation for insertion, and the completed insertion, leaves the brain damaged, suspending things like personality and memory.

In being more lenient on memory or allowing for characters to upload their memories, part of me worries that players might see cyborgification akin to a less horrific rebirth. What are your thoughts on that? I am however open to expanding on cyborgs nonetheless.

A bit of a quick reply so feel free to press further if my answers aren't sufficient.

While I do have a few ideas I want to work and can try to throw around on my own, I'm good at being given a rough objective and working towards it.

The Trinary Perfection is a very codified piece of lore, but right now it lacks some form of application. We have a few loose roles that people on station might have, but I think like a lot of things in lore, the Trinary Perfection needs a news event to toss it into the lime-light, perhaps.

It also needs several notable actions (or perhaps schisms arguing whether or not synthetic life and cyborgification are acceptable for example) in order to create a better sense of what exactly it is they do and what their aims are more than a simple rulebook can provide. For example, we need to know if they operate robotics clinics, if a certain portion of them supported the SLF, or what sway they've had on galactic politics that can affect the Aurora.

I did think about this issue when I wrote the essay and it's true that the power behind cyborgification is how soulless it leaves you. I will admit that we had a character who jaunted from human to cyborg, to cloned body which removes the gravity we have now.

My thoughts aren't that we're going back to that, but cyborgification should simply reset the memory and stilt or warp the personality, as opposed to gutting those things out entirely, that way cyborg characters have some room to go to. Cyborgs should also have the option (or perhaps a minor canon event) that would open up the possibility of being an owned IPC.

Cyborgification would still mean a horrific rebirth but it wouldn't mean a total end for the character, especially since this kind of advancement would only be available for very few cyborgs that manage to catch the eye of mad scientists or influential command.

Any change would of course depend on whether or not the community wants it.

It really IS rambling since there was no structure. It was hard to read. ? Although I am not the one to judge an application essay considering mine was shit too.

Anyways, to the main point. I can trust you to be a good team member in the team, and hope to see you actively participate in our discussions. I don't really have much to say about you other than that you're nice and good, so, I'll ask you some questions.

Do you have any plans for an arc, a plotline of sorts? I really think that there are a lot of unfinished plotlines in the past lore development for synthetics that could use some work on it, since it's very easy to forget all the stuff we write in the articles.

I like that you want to expand on owned synthetics more. What about criminal synthetics? Do you have any ideas for this angle?

Thank you for your application and good luck!

There are quite a few plotlines that we've left unfinished yes, and while I'll have to sift through everything to see what can be resumed and what can be cut loose, I've always wanted to build up on where we left UNITY and the SLF arc and make a sort of "synthetic exodus arc" to more closely link the Frontier with IPCs. My only issue with such is that it's something we've essentially had before, and how to realistically portray it on station.

Criminal synthetics tend to follow with the idea of escaping ownership but I will admit that I don't have anything prepared. Now that you bring it up, however, I'd like to explore how the supposed breakup of the SLF has affected the Biesel underworld and whatever underground modifications synthetics are free to do without government regulation.
