Aticius Posted January 23, 2020 Posted January 23, 2020 Ckey/BYOND Username: Aticius Why are you interested in applying for a Unathi Deputy position?: I've been enthralled with how much detail there is in Unathi lore since essentially Day 1 of being a part of Aurora's Community. What will you want to focus on if we take you on? Why?: Ground Level Unathi Lore; the parts that matter most to RP; Things like expanding on food, work, daily life. These details are of the utmost importance to designing a believable character! What is Unathi lore to you? What niche does it fill for our setting?: The Unathi fill a niche that isn't quite Tribals-In-Space, but come very close to it. In reality, some fusion of Knights In Space, Tribals In Space, and a very large Aesop about introducing technology to those not ready for it. Do you have examples of past commitments for creative works? (Hosting or playing in a DnD setting or otherwise proving you can devote time to the position): I'm currently In a DnD campaign, and I've been a Lore Deputy previously on Baystation, as well as being a Species Maintainer. Sometimes our community can be very aggressive in response to lore developments; can you feel easily defeated by hostility towards your work? I'll be honest and say, Yeah, I think I can get pretty easily deflated. Additional Comments: lizard emoji

Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 Hello, thank you for your interest in the unathi species! I know that your most recent project was your work on the Unathi body dimorphism and work on the Unathi sprites themselves. You've also done great work with the nymph limbs that we are still working on having implemented. I know that you can put work in. I also like your response that describes the unathi as an aesop fable because this is a big part of how I try to consciously frame my writing for them. However a big concern I have even if I do think you have a strength for the position is how you handle the negativity that creators face in our community. When you were doing the sprite work another player got really, ah, invested in a disagreement with you about it and I remember you all but dropped your entire effort and washed your hands of it. I really worry that by being in a position as a lore deputy, and thus facing this intensity from players or other staff about decisions you make, you might quickly burn out from it. Do you think that you will benefit from being in a full deputy position? Unfortunately our community still has intense elements within it and so knowing how to handle those elements is an important part of being on its staff. I hope it doesn't seem patronizing that I'm worried about your ability to withstand intense feedback or criticism but it has affected you once and you want to enter into a position where you will face it semi--regularly. Before I go in depth on the whos and whats you'll be wanting to do with Unathi I want to make sure you think you can find methods of effectively handling incidents where you might get into a heavy disagreement with someone without surrendering.
Aticius Posted January 27, 2020 Author Posted January 27, 2020 The last thing I'd want to do is lead you astray by selling myself short; I Do have problems with Burnout. It's simply a fact of me. This said; I've burned out in staff positions before rather violently in ye olden times on Baystation; And it's certainly a worry in the back of my head. With the preword done, I'll simply say, I'm certainly willing to take on and heed advice regarding disagreements, even heavy ones. I'm hoping a deputy position won't result in huge flame wars over things I aid in creating, but I can't say in good faith that I'm invulnerable. I'm certainly excited to help in the polishing of Unathi lore, and I don't feel dissuaded by your worries. I simply hope I can learn to cover my weaknesses.
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 You've recently been coming to me about rebalancing unathi and combat. Where do you see Unathi fitting mechanically with our other species?
Tomiix Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 Aticius is a very competent coder, spriter, and character writer and role player. I feel like their multifaceted skill-set and dedication to the species can only be an asset to your development of them, and how quickly said development can impact the station. They have an endorsement from me, and my preference for a pick if only one can be had.
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted January 31, 2020 Posted January 31, 2020 I am closing this because the applicant has withdrawn their application.
