Persistent injuries on character sprites

I think it's ridiculous that you can be shot eight times, burnt to the bone, and have your skull caved in with a rock and have all of the visible wounds from your horrific injuries disappear on your character sprite in a matter of seconds just because someone megadosed you with KeloDerm and Bicaridine. It gives people the idea that because you're not actively gushing blood on the tile or overlaid with red that you're totally fine and ends up shitcanning potential RP due to people meta-ing the situation at a glance. If someone walks into the Medbay being (mostly) physically fine but otherwise soaked in their own blood from head to toe (not just on their clothes) after being mauled then that absolutely should raise an alarm just like it would in a real scenario. They look that bad that for a reason, you should figure out why. Doctors would need to use their brains, their scanners, and maybe even read to determine your status. They might even assign someone to perform actual triage in mass-causality incidents. Perish the thought.

I'm not sure how to implement something like this, but potentially we could just tie it in with a similar system to how clothes get bloodied, or to the germ level. If you get roughed up really bad you'll the part, persisting until you clean yourself off. Taking a shower, washing up at a sink, wiping down with a rag/towel, or dousing yourself with sterilize/space cleaner would all bring you back to your baseline. Towels would actually do something useful and Sterilizine would have a purpose beyond cleaning up after crimes. Of course you could always just set a pose but it's not like anyone bothers reading them anyways.

TL;DR - Make lowering brute/burn not cause your injuries to visibly disappear as the numbers creep back down towards zero until you clean yourself. Bicaridine might work a lot of magic but it doesn't tidy up after the bullet holes it closes.

The term you're looking for is overlays. Be wary, overlays can be absolutely hideous if not done well - and they would be in the case of scars if said scars didn't match character skin.

I support this,

I always disliked the idea of visible wounds disappearing after a while. I mean, in real life a small scratch's mark takes even weeks to heal and yet if you wound yourself while onboard Aurora your wounds will magically disappear after like...? Five mins? I mean it doesn't work like that, so I am all in for this suggestion.

We should also have permanent scars, that'd give some good rp depth.
