Why do you wish to play this specific race:

I've always been interested in branching out and trying different things. Lately, I've gotten very much into different types of RP and after my seventh Unathi, I've decided that I wanted to try something a bit different. Tajara, from what I've seen, can be extremely close-knit especially if they're adherent to a mutual faction. They're also a source of controversy due conflict of said opposing factions. I've always been a proponent of just inserting your character into a situation to meet and engage and, given the TLC that Tajara lore has, it would be incredibly easy to jump into station events, even as a new character. Playing Unathi for a while was extremely mold-breaking for me as it was the first time I've ever RP'ed anything other than a human. I thought I would be intimidated, and I was a bit jarred at first, but it was quickly dismissed by the sheer enjoyment of experiencing something new. 
After reading the lore, in-detail, I can appreciate the effort and work that has gone into fleshing out Tajara as a species. As a disclaimer, concerns that I had previously voiced in the past about the lore are now, effectively, inert. I understand repercussions for not following the status-quo of the species, it is something that I adapted to whilst playing Unathi. Breaking out of my shell to explore different routes, social views, and perspectives have shaped my role playing skill for the better and I'm eager to venture to what this species has to offer.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

Playing a Tajara is, as one would expect, certainly varied from playing a human for a few reasons. Mechanically, they see better in the dark, use their claws instead of punching, are more resistant to cold due to freezing temperatures of Adhomai, and are selective with their breeding due to cultural phenomena which even goes as far to dictate what level of education they receive. They are an oppressed people, by nature. During the initial Uprisings in the few years post-contact with outside systems (mega corps that desperately thirsted over Adhomai's surplus of untapped resources and potential), the D'as'ral Massacre is a case-and-point for anyone getting their feet wet into the lore. The nobility attempting to quell curiosity with sheer brutality is something that we do not often see in human lore. Expanding on this, the first Great Revolution post-contact had the Hadii dynasty arming peasants, giving them the claws needed to take back their lives from the nobility. Over 90 millions deaths, a "history," and I use this word loosely as such an event only happened thirty-years prior from the current date, that is soaked in blood would assuredly impact any and all tajara on-station.
It would be nigh-impossible to create a character that remains blissfully unaware or inadvertent to the struggles of their fellow man, such is a massive difference from a human who could've had the most serene of upbringings without a dollop of hostility. To even get to Tau Ceti is a mission in of itself, it simply not feasible being part of the New Kingdom of Adhomai (NKA) or the Democratic People's Republic of Adhomai (DPRA) and seamlessly secure passage. Emigration, itself, is a challenge with conditions for non-PRA transport being less-than-stellar and downright dangerous.

Character Name: (Mrrazhalrr Zahawi)

Born in 2437 to Khrazmmrug Zahawi, his father, and Tajrhalrr Zahawi, his mother, during a time of unrest due to the Hadii Dynasty's forlorn promises to NanoTrasen, The hharar, Mrrazhalrr, felt a strong sense of foreboding anxiety for most of his life. Tajrhalrr's pregnancy was considered a miracle, granted by S'rendarr and Messa themselves, as it took years of trying to become pregnant. Birthed and raised in the grand capital of Nal'tor, he would often be able to see the lingering damage and destruction leftover by the sacking of the city less than a decade before his birth. Siik'maas was the most-spoken language of the household, though throughout his time amongst others, Mrrazhalrr would pick up Siik'tajr through passive-listening and stories he would often hear from survivors of the first revolution. While he wasn't raised during the Great Revolution, the markings of the city and the scars that it had still had left were enough to give even the most resilient of Tajara feelings of apprehension that such could easily happen again. His faith, the worship of S'rendarr and Messa, that was shared by his parents and instilled and taught unto him, gave the young tajara a sense of comfort, control, and refuge inside the sanctuary of his own mind. The faith kept Mrrazhalrr and his family, simply put, subservient and docile to the pressing danger and tension surrounding them. Khrazmmrug worked as an engineer, a term used loosely as he was predominantly fixing and rebuilding the destruction left behind during the first revolution while Tajrhalrr did her best to maintain a stable homelife for her husband and her precious son. 

Following the assassination of Rhagrrhuzau Hadii in 2451 CE and the subsequent, rapid succession of his brother, and vice-president, Njadrasanukii Hadii saw a wedge that not only drove itself through the heart of Adhomai, but through the Zahawi family itself. At fourteen years of age, Mrrazhalrr watched, helpless, as his father was sold to NanoTrasen's fold to work as a miner, procuring the precious resources that they so hungered for. Tajrhalrr was broken, her husband was taken from her to bleed their precious planet dry and there was nothing she could do. After a brief period of depression, locking herself away and leaving Mrrazhalrr to effectively fend for himself, begging for food not only for himself, but for his mother, and taking jobs that were ill-suited for his age, she emerged. Attributing her newfound strength and will to her faith in S'rendarr and Messa, Tajrhalrr felt that if her beliefs were strong enough bless her with a son, it would be enough to move forward, in hopes that Khrazmmrug would return. Mrrazhalrr, however, did not share this outlook. After six-months of working himself to the bone, starving, and navigating life during the ongoing feud between the PRA, NKA, and ALA was will-breaking. 

At twenty-one years old, the first nuclear bombing of Mrrazhalrr's life was committed by the PRA against the ALA in the Rhazkjara mountains, north-west of Nal'tor. The capital city was in an uproar due to diminished foreign aid, post-bombing, the labor camps for political dissidents, homosexuals, and other Hadii-perceived subversive elements, and the guerilla-style warfare on the Harr'masir continent that only compounded the already chaotic environment the Tajara people were facing. A letter was sent to the tiny, two-bedroom apartment of the remaining Zahawi: Khrazmmrug died in a mining accident, his body was never found after a cave-in. NanoTrasen sent their most sincere apologies in a form of typed-memo and a sum of a thousand Credits for their loss. The Credits, however, were removed from the envelope prior, likely taken after a search by the postal service. Tajrhalrr, once again, was broken.
It was Mrrazhalrr's turn to steel himself and provide. He wasn't a child anymore, losing his father and panhandling in the streets of Nal'tor for scraps to feed himself and his mother. Armed with the knowledge, skill, and physical attributes from years of labor, Mrrazhalrr was ready. Taking on the official mantle of a construction worker, the tajara worked fervently, returning home in the evening with bloody hands and scrapes, but emboldened with the desire to do better. Following the Sol Alliance's embargo on People's Republic, the city had an even more desperate need for qualified workers to assist with infrastructure. Utilizing his varied skill set, Mrrazhalrr was used to help build refuge shelters, stoves for warmth, and other essential constructions with limited resources. All the while, his mother's condition worsened as she turned inwards, effectively shutting herself from the world outside. 

In 2462, following the Armistice of Shastar, Mrrazhalrr had buried his mother in an unmarked grave on the outskirts of Nal'tor, bordering the city of B'urr. It was this moment when he realized though he lost his family, he gained the resolve to break the subservient restraints that binded his hands. To do more for the Republic, and to better the lives of those around him, he would use the very same corporation that stole his father's life. He would go to Tau Ceti and devote himself and his skills to NanoTrasen, specifically in Engineering as he certainly has the experience to perform in such a task. If not for his exemplary service and unwavering resolve during the crisis of the Alliance's embargo and the subsequent war of attrition, the application for a work permit would have likely taken ages, or could have even been rejected. However, he, along with many, many others, received accolades on Andrey Borisov's skit on the future of the People's Republic: young, bright-eyed tajara that powered-through hostile times and worked to secure a peaceful hereafter for Adhomai. Though, virtually unnamed and unknown, his work visa to venture to Tau Ceti was approved and he left Nal'tor with the expectation to succeed and return home with enough resources to make a difference.

What do you like about this character?

While writing this character, I felt personally invested in his story and it only propelled me to get more descriptive and include more facets of his life as I went on. He's interesting and is coming to Tau Ceti with this, "I'm going to be a hero" personality that's overshadowed with an incredibly tragic backstory. To me, he'll show how you can experience tragedy but overcome and that is definitely a story I want to tell.

How would you rate your role-playing ability?

The last time I answered this question, I gave myself a seven. I am willing to pat myself on the shoulder and give it a 7.5.

I'm not a Tajaran whitelister, but this is a fantastically written app that seems to take a lot of the lore into consideration in its writing.

I can vouch for his RP ability, and that I would say a 7.5/10 is really lowballing it. However, we all know that "+1 good RPer" doesn't offer a whole lot when the purpose of these applications is to measure their understanding of the lore and species that they're applying for.

The actual content of the application and backstory, I think, shows that he's definitely done his research on the subject of Tajara and their lore, and has taken the time to formulate his own takes and interpretations on it. While it's good, I do have a couple of questions regarding the character out of a few measures of curiosity.

- What's Mrrazhalrr's take on the current leader of the People's Republic? As he grew up under the initial reign of Rhagrrhuzau Hadii, did he have any particularly strong personal feelings revolving around his assassination, and the subsequent rise of Njadrasanukii Hadii? What were his personal takes on the unrest that came as of a result of it? Did he agree with the persecution that the Zhan began to face as of a result of it?
- What's his overall take on the Sol Alliance, since humanity is closely tied to the development of the Tajaran people as well? Did he see them as people that should be allies? Was he grateful to the technological uplift that they offered? Or did he consider them to be exploitative opportunists? Is he resentful of them, and the varied effects that their presence has caused all around the planet?
-  I'm curious about his motives for joining NanoTrasen. While your framing of it seems to imply that he's only with them out of convenience and an opportunity for quick cash, what are his views of the company overall? Did he become indifferent and just see them as a place to get money, or does he still hold resentment over what happened to his father? Does he dislike them, but think that he's getting the better end of the deal by taking their money?

Mrrazhalrr's life, during the reign of Rhagrruzau, could be best be described as the calm before the storm with the frequent zappings of electricity in the air. Unrest ruled the streets of Tal'nor, especially since Rhagrrhuzau forlorned his promises to NanoTrasen for the prized resources they were seeking. However, the first President did provide a sort of comfort against the foreign entities that have come to deplete Adhomai of her untapped potential. I wouldn't necessarily call it feeling safe, given that his upbringing was volatile at best, but Mrrazhalrr would listen to his father speak about how the first President would not allow Adhomai to become prey to those would seek only to use her. Life in Nal'tor, for most, was rather stable if one was working in the industrial sector and they could expect to live a modest life. Once the initial shock of the assassination wore off and Njadrasanukii took the stage, everything changed. Mrrazhalrr began to loathe the Zhan and felt their persecution was completely justified. His anger couldn't be openly and outwardly thrown at the second President who allowed NanoTrasen to induct his father into their ranks, but, the Zhan? They were fair game for the various frustrations that clouded fourteen-year old Mrrazhalrr's thoughts. If Rhagrrhuzau lived, his father would still be alive. If his father was alive, he wouldn't have to bleed his hands performing the most menial, yet overworked, of labor and his mother wouldn't have lost her mind twice, before ultimated succumbing. There's enough fuel there to light a fire pit for years, in that regard.

To Mrrazhalrr, the Alliance are nearly as bad, if not worse than NanoTrasen. Being present in the Capital of the PRA during the embargo imposed on the faction was horrific. They were cut off, effectively, from any and all outside resources and he had to break his back to support not only his mother, but the monumental tasks set forth that were overall unrealistic. He did his best, but in actuality, how long can you survive with a diminished economy in the city that is meant to be the beacon and exemplar of the People's Republic? The extra efforts he had to submit to prevented him from spending time with his mother which, ultimately, may have contributed to her death.

I love this question, actually.

It's a bit of both, really. Mrrazhalrr will, always, have strong feelings of loathing towards NanoTrasen for contributing to the death of his father. It was the amount of Credits given to his family, though, that sparked the interest. In his mind, they have the Credits to toss around, they have the resources that they want to bleed Adhomai dry over. The restraints, if mistaken, aren't relating to the Republic over his head. In fact, in this sense, he does have an overinflated sense of self that he thinks he can single-handedly extort NanoTrasen's deep pockets and funnel such back to the Republic. To be brief, I would call him a shrewd opportunist, ready to bestow a sort of karmic payback to those who had taken from him first.

- The obligatory question, what are his opinions on the Democratic People's Republic and the New Kingdom? Did his opinions on them change in any way after the ceasefire was called? Are his opinions on the New Kingdom different to his opinions on the old nobility?
- And a generally unconsidered question, where did your character come into learning Tau Ceti Basic?

Mhm, often during his work hours, he would listen to the older Tajara gloat about their victories during the Great Revolution. But, these are stories to a man who is worrying about how he is going to provide for himself and his mother without his father's job that gave them a somewhat stable life. Though, the establishment of the New Kingdom of Adhomai in 2450 was his first real glimpse into the "noble cats bad," it wasn't until a year before he would have come to Tau Ceti when the Armistice of Shastar was signed, where he would actually step back and realize that the actively-persecuted noblemen actually made significant headway and could, potentially, take full control of Adhomai once again. The stories he heard growing up rang out in his ears, not willing to go through what his mother and father had gone through and, certainly, not willing to subject his potential children to such acts. This served as more of a bolster to his sense of opportunism, while the three factions are deadlocked, he could procure what he needed from Tau Ceti: Credits, knowledge, experience... And return such things to the Republic.

In regards to the New Kingdom, it's pretty much what I said before. He was far more concerned about the ongoing warfare between the PRA and ALA, especially considering the nuclear weapon-fire in 2458. As for the DPRA, if Mrrazhalrr wasn't raised to be subservient to the People's Republic and actively worshipped deities that preached selflessness, restraint, and internalized dialogue, I would think he would, in fact, have a positive connotations for the faction. That being said, he strongly believes the PRA is needed to govern the masses of the Adhomai and that too much individual freedom is contrary to his faith and spiritual beliefs. To him, the DPRA is a gilded doorknob of the ALA, selfish egomaniacs that would sacrifice their own people over and over again for their own perceived sense of destiny.

I went through many whitelist applications to get a feel of what is typically spoken about, but this is a FIRST.

Mrrazhalrr, like others who were approved for work permits venturing out, are expected to positively represent the People's Republic. They are given a mandatory three-month course in which they are taught Tau Ceti Basic. This course is free and paid for by the government in hopes to faciliate a positive transition to foreign space. However, like most government-funded programs, the lectures are quite large and over-attended, making it difficult to truly learn unless you took extra care to. Luckily, Mrrazhalrr was able to keep up and passed his proficieny exam following the course-completion.

I'm pretty satisfied with all your answers, I think, at least to me, you show a pretty good understanding of the kitty cats, and I can see that you've put an incredible amount of effort and thought into your character. It shows that you've reviewed the lore pretty thoroughly, and I'd be confident you'd play a good Tajara. This is a very good app. I do not have any criticisms, as you have covered almost every facet of Tajara lore there is, and you even picked up on the racial component of Tajara lore in your questionings with Furrycactus. However, since you asked, I will provide you with questions that will further illuminate your character.

The PRA is obviously a communist state. A worker, theoretically, would be treated the same as a well-skilled artisan. They would have ample living space, a good salary, enough rations for a good meal, etc. And, for the Proletariat, the best way to serve one's Republic is to work for them and produce for the economy. However, Mrrazhalrr is going to Nanotrasen to... improve the lives of the Republic and the Republic itself. But how? Is he going to send money back? Is he going to donate? Additionally, is it not strange that Mrrazhalrr wants to participate in the same captalistic system that killed his father? This leads me to my next question:

The PRA aims to dismantle all ideas about the racial caste system. All Tajara, under one banner, under one culture. Yet, you stated that Mrrazhalrr hates Zhan and fears the Njarir. Additionally, he is emigrating to work in an extremely captalistic society--in other words, how much does Mrrazhalrr believe in Hadiism? Is he really willing to consider Zhan as the same race as him? Is he really willing to turn his back on communism to work in a foreign society?

So, yes! For the average worker, in accordance to the Wiki's portrayal of Nal'tor culture especially, "The quality of life for an urban dweller in Nal'tor, or any other major city, can vary considerably according to the Tajara's occupation, education and standing with the Party. The average worker that labours in the industrial suburbs, can expect an honest living to be made, and a modest lifestyle to be led." (shorturl.at/acuzJ)

Such was his life while his father was still alive. He was a relatively average worker, but such work under People's Republic is rewarded with a life, though bare-bones, of little wanting. However, once his father passed away, it was time to support himself and his mother under.. What skills, exactly? A fourteen-year old, with added desires for nothing really, jumped into the fray of the labor force at the bottom rung. I noted, during the time around the nuclear bombing of the Quizosa military base, that he was already in throes of the workforce by then. But, with the added weight of his mother holding him down, his warped sense of subservience towards the PRA and S'rand'marr and Messa, and the breaking point of his mother passing away, inspired him to commit to change while keeping in adherence to the Party's beliefs. When I answered Joshie's question above, he does have intense loathing of the Capitalist society that effectively murdered his father, but:

Whilst he trusts and believes in the PRA, the fact is that outside vectors: NanoTrasen, the Solarian Embargo, and the other factions actively working against them, are a aplenty. Learn the enemy from within, use their resources and, as I said before, funnel them back to the Republic with the knowledge and skills that he'd learn in Tau Ceti space that may not have been afforded to him otherwise.

 

He's not a perfect character. In his vision, taking the initiative to attempt to immerse and blend himself into Tau Ceti culture whilst retaining his identity of the People's Republic's ideal citizen is, in fact, altruistic. To me, it's selfish, right? Who is this character to give himself the sword of karmic justice and attempt to remove the restraints that Capitalistic society has imposed on him, his father and mother? In his mind, however, it's more of, "what would embody the PRA's beliefs?" And that is, to Mrrazhalrr, to remove a leech from the Adhomai's surface. To address his personal beliefs about the Zhan and Njarir, he does loathe the former and fear the latter.

I was also under the assumption that whilst the PRA does preach for equality under one banner, that following the assassination of Rhagrrhuzau in 2451, Zhan didn't leave the best taste in the Republic's mouth. "Due to such, zhan communities are often persecuted by the authorities, and have an overall negative image before the eyes of the Republican mass. "(shorturl.at/acuzJ) He was young when his father was taken from him, and such never would've happened had Rhagrrhuzau lived. While he maintains firm support for the PRA,  I believe it's completely possible to still maintain a bit of abhorrence towards the Zhan as many did during that time and, likely, still do.

My first instinct was to reply was "Find out ICLY," but, you know...

Mrrazhalrr believes that he fully adheres to the concept of Hadiism and he understands the ramifications of being on a station where Zhan are active members of the personnel, immersing himself in a capitalist, foreign society, and that he'll have to turn his back on all he knows to re-learn an entire culture. His faith, S'rendarr and Messa, preach selflessness, restraint, chastity, and charity as the ideal moral belief system. Restraint, keyword here. Is he going to actively cause a ruckus on station because that one Zhan is a Security Officer? Likely not, but the tension will be there.

For this one, I will say that I look forward to telling the story if he succeeds or not, but where he stands right now, ideally on a cushy PRA shuttle heading towards Tau Ceti instead of being taxi'd in a crate by a Ha'rron like the rest of the Njarir, I say yes.
