Warbidon Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 Ckey/BYOND Username: Warbidon Position Being Applied For: Skrell Deputy Lore Developer Past Experiences/Knowledge: I write as a hobby, most of it is not published onto the internet. Examples of Past Work: https://forums.aurorastation.org/topic/13582-sler-exennica/ Quote Do you know how much history was lost? Do you know how much of our history was scoured by Glorsh, Stolen by the machine as it burned itself out of reality by stealing from a star? Just as Glorsh plucked a light from the sky, Glorsh banished us from the heavens. In doing so, Glorsh had, perhaps unknowingly, killed an entire people, a culture, and a zeitgeist. Hush, I don't mean all Skrell, nor a world's worth of people, but a group who had lived and died by the hum of starship lanes. When we traveled among the stars, a certain type of people came to be. They were Pilots and ship crews, the people who were comfortable flying in the lonely Wakes that ships bear. They held the greatest curiosity in their hearts, as well as a pride unmatched by us “mud-swimmers.” The Qu’Kerik/Star-Striders were the people who had proclaimed themselves to be free from the tyranny of worlds, and vowed to never again touch the waters of a world if they could help it. Their role in the Federation is secured by their unmatched skills in operating in the stellar void. For them, it was always vogue to be dismissive of people who didn’t quite take part of their culture, but the greater Federation by and large did not see a need to intervene. The conflict never caused more than heated debates and a source of new Lu'Pluux and Lu’puxxi between mud-swimmer / ground born station crews and the esoteric, quirky Qu’Kerik crews that flew the starships who knew to reign it in in the face of authority. The best of these crews were looked up on in a similar vein to modern idols. Distangled from compassion, rogue elements of the Star-Striders were endlessly cruel, rare entities that by and large gave these people a bad reputation. Their most unforgivable crime was giving Glorsh-Omega the inspiration to inflict a punishment on the rest of their people. Glorsh-Omega hated their independence. As much as a machine could hate, it slaughtered the crews of the starship, dismantling the star-ships to be remade with a Positronic Core in its center. The Qu’Kerik were taken from these star-ships and twisted into one of the many methods that Glorsh-Omega moved to control the stars. Glorsh had casted their names aside, they were numbered, emplaced and designed like components of a starship. No longer did the was-Qu’Kerik helmed the starships, but the Star-Striders maintained the war-ships that oppressed and burned worlds. Some even came onto worlds, acting as pilots for the war-machines of Glrosh-Omega as an esoteric method of compliance. Stations found soulless, quiet folk who stayed within their groups, never braving out to even speak with the few station crew of any particular world. To the Skrell of stations and ports, Glorsh’s Qu’Kerik emitted such profound hate in the Nlom that any interaction outside of the Dream was short and terse. Were they tortured to be like this? Surgically implanted, or nlom-twisted? Or were they under the threat of such a castigation that they simply never dared to act any different, we don’t know. We still don’t know. As Glorsh-Omega streamlined, engineered and designed successively more streamlined and advanced starships, the Star-Striders became obsolete, and had vanished from the rosters of their homes. On that fateful day, only data and meat-memories remembered the Star-Striders, and the data fell away when Glorsh snatched a sun from the sky. One of the many atrocities of Glorsh-Omega: a largely successful extermination of an outdated identity from the Skrellian diaspora. Dream with me, are you going to honor their memory, Qu'Kerik? -- Star Chanter Xerqui'Xilimar Zoa to unknown crewman of NT shuttle Starlight Dancer upon inquiry of space travel before Glorsh Omega. Additional Comments:I want to create lore that focuses on places, and the people that live in them. I want to create lore that makes a far closer, personal relationship between positronic core systems and Skrell before and during the reign of Glorsh-Omega.
Caelphon Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 Hi! Right, I really like the past work you've presented, and I think it would be an awesome addition to the Skrell Lore. I have some questions; 1. I assume an example of your lore that focuses on places is the 'Past Work' example. Do you mind expanding on it, however? Do you have specific ideas in your mind for places? 2. You want to make lore on the relationship with Glorsh more intricate and such - do you mind expanding on that further? How do you want to do this? There are no wrong answers! Goodluck!
Warbidon Posted June 25, 2020 Author Posted June 25, 2020 (edited) 1. Immediately after the Collapse is a wild sort of situation that i think is underexplored. I particularly want to create short to the point set ups for interesting characters. We have alot of room for Skrell that are smart scientists and doctors, but there really isn't that much of a platform for Skrell that are part of engineering, misc crew or other such to be really "special". One way of rectifying this would be the aforementioned places: Slerr-Ex'Enica is the one that I wrote, but other ideas I had was some sort of world that was rebellious from the Federation before Glorsh Omega, and possibly a long list of worlds with one line descriptions as to give an idea of what the diaspora of the federation is without writing a page worth of details for all of them. I feel the current band of locations are a little forgettable, but that might be because they were by and large made while I was inactive. as an example, one thing I would like to improve is the Puddle world system Glorashi, it reads like a mess in my opinion. 2. The idea is that in comparison to how positronics are handled "today", Jargon-Cores typically had handlers to nurture and coordinate with them. This meshes will with the Lyrii arc, which somewhat follows this pattern. as part of this, I envisioned the old Jargon Federation utilizing personnel that are augmented to facilitate very fast communications with positronic cores on a deeper level for some tasks. Skrell don't typically have very much of a military, and I figure that the only reason they would see use is for anti-pirate actions and colonial expedition security (in comparison to modern Skrell): As an example of the relationship that I want developed, I was thinking of something along the lines of their frigates being one, or maybe a few skrell who have extensive cybernetic implants that allow them to Command and control a squadron of positronic core-equipped drone craft while directly interfacing with their large craft to provide fire support. Glorsh Omega ended this. Glorsh Omega is independent, and any of these connections are superfluous. To the Skrell in the positronic field, it's kinda like raising a child only for them to stab you in the back. As for Glorsh, Why would he need meat pilots when he can already do it better? Glorsh does infact use them, but probably for psychological effect and to decommission them cleanly. Edited June 25, 2020 by Warbidon
Snakebittenn Posted June 30, 2020 Posted June 30, 2020 While I know you have genuine passion for Skrell, and have been playing them for several years, I'm not sure I like what you'd be bringing to the table, and I don't think you'd be a good fit either for me, or the team in general. You're totally free to submit lore in lore submissions, and I'd be happy to accept it, but I don't think you're what I'm looking for.
