Myazaki Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 BYOND Key: mikomyazaki2 Game ID: b8L-bIFU Player Byond Key/Character name: Unknown / Jose Dean (Station Engineer) Staff involved: Well there's me, but other than that none. Reason for complaint: Jose Dean, as a non-antagonist, took it upon themselves to break into the Captain's Office and take the Spare ID when an antagonist revealed themselves. Saying the following over comms: [Common] Jose Dean says, "Doctor Sun, I am getting the captain's spare to pay for the ransom." [Common] Song Sun says, "You will be doing no such thing." ... unrelated chat ... [Common] Jose Dean says, "I wasn't asking." Song Sun was the CMO and highest ranked crew member, they did it anyway and were later only fined for this. I believe this breaks the Keep your character's goals in mind rule, as an Engineer should only be breaking into the Captain's Office under explicit orders from Command and/or Security. The location of the spare ID is not their concern. Also ignoring direct orders from command during a crisis is very un-good. One of the security personnel took the spare ID off him when he exited the command area. So I cannot prove what he wanted to do with the spare ID, he said he wanted to give it away to the antagonist as ransom for the Assistant that got taken hostage... which is a weird ransom payment that the antagonist did not ask for. Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? No, assumed they were an antagonist wanting to take it for themselves. Did not know they were not until end of round. Approximate Date/Time: Approx. 1 PM GMT 22nd August
DatSamTho Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 (edited) So alright. Let me get this straight. First off, no I did not want to pay off the ransom with the captain's ID, I never said so. I only used it to get the station funds, and threw it.back into command after letting myself out. Second off, Jose was at a mental break point. He came back to the job before he probably should have, after losing a lot of friends. And- the assistant, that being Rosa Alice was another one of his friends (Who he already thought he lost once). After the event arc, he lost all faith in security, thinking that they were more of a hinderance and threat to the station, rather than its protectors, after he was beaten by them in the interrogation room, like a week ago, or so before the round in question. And yes "Keep your character's goals in mind" A character's goal, is not just doing their job. Jose's goal- at that point, was to keep his friend safe. He believed that command would relegate that job to security, who would not be able to accomplish that job without Rosa dying. Did it ruin the gimmick? No, I don't think so. The kidnapping turned out to be a "NT simulation" done by a borg, which made for some very interesting RP after the fact. Edited August 26, 2020 by tomkiel
BoryaTheSlayer Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 As a note, I'll be taking this. Expect more soon.
BoryaTheSlayer Posted September 8, 2020 Posted September 8, 2020 Extremely sorry for the long wait. In any case, here is the verdict, after a lot of consideration and log diving: Considering the circumstances around the incident in the round, it seemed to be justified and within rules, however I understand the before mentioned sentiment by someone whose post had been deleted here. I do urge @tomkiel to be careful with this sort of behaviour in the future because this is very close to the line of where it is not okay. Locking and archiving in 24 hours unless someone has more to say.
