Chen Yakumo
BYOND Key: Chen Yakumo Character Names: (Also Aria - my Stationbound. I no longer play Talus.) Species you are applying to play: SkrellWhat color do you plan on making your first alien character: A lighter shade of green-ish blue best described as Aqua.Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: I've looked over the Skrell pages off and on over several years, and more recently began devoting more time into reading them in their entirety. Why do you wish to play this specific race?: Skrell was one of the first races that I was interested in when I first started playing on the Aurora. I'd give their page a once over, think about applying, and then ultimately dismiss the idea of it due to real life getting in the way, or other things catching and holding my attention. I've always been fascinated by the overall concept of Skrell, given the amount of emphasis their society places on the pursuit of scientific and medical advancements, as well as the nuance of playing a species so long lived, with a memory to match. I'd say the biggest draw to playing a Skrell, for me, however, is simply the fact that they're just alien enough to be 'strange' and 'different' from your typical human, while not being so alien that they're hard to relate to and resonate with on a mental or emotional level, such as a Dionae being so detached by virtue of being a gestalt, or a synthetic character being...synthetic.Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The first and foremost thing that makes roleplaying a Skrell different than roleplaying a human is just how long-lived they are. Skrell are capable of naturally living to be two hundred years, with medical advancements pushing that upwards of five hundred. A young adult-aged Skrell can make friends with a young adult human, and live to see that human's great grandchildren get wrinkles and greyed hair before finally passing on themselves, without it being entirely unreasonable. Further, their biology complete separates them from humanity; skrells have no physical gender, and the way they display their emotions primarily through their headtails in ways that they have to actively do to display what they're feeling to a typical human on-looker is interesting. The species history is dramatically different from humanity as a whole. They lacked any large scale wars due to the psionic nature inherent to their being, causing a fairly steady growth from their first steps on land to the stars, ultimately leading to the major century and a half rule of Glorsh-Omega. Oh, and they're psionically active - able to communicate ideas with one another while sleeping and when given the right equipment able to continue working in their sleep. HOW IS THAT NOT COOL.Character Name: Xiru Qi'IsikPlease provide a short backstory for this character: Xiru Qi'Isik was born on Xaqixal and spent much of their formative years there, but always had aspirations of becoming a doctor. They had always seen themselves as a big contributor to medical science and research, and had even originally began to attend classes specializing more in the scientific side of said field. However, the more they got into biology, the more vi began to realize that he preferred working with patients and performing more biological research. Xiru ultimately wound up prioritizing their focus for their first degree on a medical doctorate, specializing in neurology. Despite the seemingly cold demeanor humans often mistake Skrell for having, Xiru has always had a particular fondness for the human 'condition,' and often seeks to learn more about how the human mind works on an emotional level, and seeing what truly makes the human mind 'tick' and how it reacts to certain stimuli, ultimately leading them to pursue a second degree in psychology. Now sixty-four years old, Doctor Qi'Isik has worked for a few different clinics, ultimately leading them to Tau Ceti, where they applied for work with Nanotrasen. They one day want to want to unravel the nuance behind commonly occurring phobias to see if there's a common connection in the patient's past, if certain environments are more prone to creating these types of phobias, and if so, how these factors can be related to the researched subjects. "I don't believe in coincidence. Too convenient. There's almost always something more, even if you don't understand it - yet." - Doctor Xiru Qi'Isik. What do you like about this character? I like the overall theme behind Xiru. Unlike most of my other medical characters, their original drive to medical was purely scientific in interest. They don't quite fully grasp precisely why humans feel the way they do regarding certain things, even if they're capable of empathizing with it, and it drives them to study it more while also helping their co-workers and crewmates through the struggles they may be enduring, viewing it as an opportunity to both help those in pain but also to advance their own understanding of the human condition. How would you rate your role-playing ability?0/10 why am i not banned yet lmao I like to believe that I'm competent. I've been told I'm competent. I'll give myself a solid 6/10. Ultimately my opinion of my capabilities aren't as important as what it actually is, and I can't in good faith say I am or am not good without being biased. Notes: Nothing to note. gnome. Bear
I am not strong in skrell lore. IT looks okay from what I've seen. That being said. What I can say with certainty is Chen is a great roleplayer and a better person. All of their characters are always fun, believable, and engaging. Link to comment
VVipEdout
Verdict time. Your application was fun to read and it shows a grasp for the lore and the general feel of a squid in a creative way, rather than by using a 'safe' concept. I've no idea what's up with the weird comment either, it's up to us to take a concept seriously. Consider the app accepted. Link to comment
