Erica wants a blue jumpsuit, Miracae Whitelist Application

BYOND key:

Miracae

Character names:

Erica Campbell (Station Engineer, Apprentice Before)

How long have you been playing on Aurora?:

About three to four months

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?:

It is both natural progression for me and my character as it is something which I enjoy, as Engineering Main I have been teaching people, both new and old to SS13, always enjoyed that part. Often naturally in lack of CE I have taken command over Engineering, coordinating start of shift, repairs and responses to emergencies.

Why did you come to Aurora?: I was interested in the heavy roleplay aspect of the server, low and medium servers have always caused me to recoil in way that they are too chaotic, but in quite dull way. Always have been big fan of roleplay. Table-top, other videogames (SW Galaxies, Neverwinter Nights)

Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes

Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they?

I have not

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about:

Roleplay in my opinion is collaborative storytelling with bit of improv that has goal in mind of all involved having fun. Even in conflict and with one losing, aim should be to creating fun for your enemies by opposing them in interesting way

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?:

Their purpose, in my opinion is to organise their individual departments, teach people roles they wish to have while also coordination of station in between departments against threats. Joint operations etc.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?:

Their responsibility is to be the showcase of roleplay. Not exactly perfect, but a whitelisted person, approved by community, must represent what server accepts. My attempt would be by example of show don’t tell. Talk to people, emote properly, try to show emotions of my sprite-made person

Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career?

Current actions of Solarian Forces have made up Erica’s mind on need to change her citizenship, losing the little of faith she already had in the government. Being Martian just as well, thusly never being fully supportive to Sol Republic, and with Violet Dawn, lost of both her town and father she focuses mainly on keeping family who made refuge afloat, taking double shifts, overworking as she’s currently only steady flow of money to her brother’s family.

What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted?

Chief Engineer mainly, maybe in future some other roles.

Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.:

Erica Campbell as Chief Engineer

How would you rate your own roleplaying?:

I think in heat of emotion at times I forget to type, and just act at times, it is bad in my opinion and I try to fight it. Problem can be sometimes wall of text for me as I am ADD and I have attention span of a Gold Fish, but I try my best in showcasing emotion, action backed by reason in my character’s mind. Decent, experienced, but seeing my own flaws.

Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action?

Of course.

Have you familiarize yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles?

I have

Extra notes:

Nothing in specific comes to mind as of now.

Played along side Erica a few times! And haven't really got anything to fault 'em on other than a tendency to rush headfirst into danger which has resulted in their unneccessary death a few times. But in general has been very good at their role! Unfortunately I haven't really seen them take command initiative because I'm normally playing that command role.

However, I would like to see them given the chance to step up and I don't doubt their ability.

I'll hold a +1, until I have a chance to see them in role if they get a trial, But I think Miracae is capable

EDIT - 17JAN: Been able to see Erica in a few rounds as CE now and I can happily say I'd vouch my +1 for them

Add my full +1 rather than tentative

I'll be taking this application.

Your responses bring a question to mind: why does your existing character want to advance to a head of staff position? In your mind, why is their promotion justified?

In Erica's mind, there is a couple of layers to this question.

The most recent issues have caused Erica to be the pillar for her entire family. Engineer's paycheck on current overload she's taking herself is keeping both her, and her brother's family (Him, wife and two kids), so there is the materialistic side of it all, as she simply wants to take care of her family in the end.

But another aspect is personality itself of Erica. She's very much a person who will improve upon improvements in herself, she's just built that way. Poor upbringing and always wanting to prove to herself and others she can and that she will strive for the best. Both her scores and her body show her dedication to whatever she puts herself into. As long as she can stand she will fight for better of herself or others.

In all this is also tied her wanting respect and attainment of the same rank as her teachers, Oliver Roadman and Dexter Smith. Although she has not seen them in long while she believes she can prove their teachings can get her to the same position as they were.

Thank you for taking up my Application!

I RP'd quite a bit with Erica, and I can safely say, that their rp and engineering skills are very good, and in my opinion they would make a great CE. It's a +1 from me

Makes sense. My advice is to also show the flaws that come with this mindset, but I won't pretend to know your character.

A verdict will be given on Thursday.

Let me take artifacts off station, thus +1

So, I don't see them much, since I'm not really an engineer. However, they appear to be doing alright from what I see. I haven't seen them as command yet, but what I can tell, there appears to be nothing overly bad I can say about them. So, I'd say a +1

I'd need to interact more with them in an RP situation too say for sure, but generally they're way of handling things from what i can tell on the command channel and common is fairly effective, sadly since im maining a lieison with an "avoid undue danger" mentality, i'v not really seen them RP upclose under pressure, but generally they maintain effective communications over comms. tentative +1, i'd suggest getting more feedback from engineers and security players who get to interact with you more when the pressures on.

Had the pleasure of ripping out a bunch of shrapnel from Erica today, after previously having seen how they play in a few other rounds. I believe they deserve the whitelist and have my support. +1

Erica is usually the chief replacement for me when I'm not around, I don't have any complaints regarding their command/CE play. They do a lot of paperwork (big plus), hand out wire schematics and provide departmental resources to best deal with situations when applicable (i.e. handing out RFD-Ps). I can't say much about their command comms since they steal my spot, but generally they check in frequently in engineering and distribute work, which is good.

The one thing we can all improve on is just trying to keep people in the know and try to involve them, but it's always so situational that it's hard to provide specific feedback. I struggle with this sometimes as well.

Overall, +1
