Cassie Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 To be honest. Red fits security more, because it's the colour of action - which is what security gets. I don't think I've ever seen sec as an "approachable, calming, good guy" in a very long time unless they've off duty, and I get they're supposed to be but ergh. I get the logic of changing them to blue, but at the same time I don't? Changing them to blue won't make them more approachable, like, "SHUT THE HELL UP" or "Flash that bastard!" doesn't really get numbed down by blue soothing colours. Right? That aside, security shouldn't be comparable to cops (that's actually a terrible thing for SS13, see signature for details), and if I were to contribute a blue security idea, it'd look like this: Inventory: Blue and Grey jumpsuit with reinforced light armor plates. Blue beret HUD eyepiece Blue metallic version of jackboots. Well, something similar to that anyway because the woman in this drawing is probably an android of some sort.
Casperf1 Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 I were to contribute a blue security idea, it'd look like this: If the jumpsuits looked akin to that, that'd be way cooler and sort the metro cop issue. And the jackboots are awful, so the armoured boot things here would be neat to see in-game. Maybe rework the armour also, so it looks similar to what Cassie has here?
Susan Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 I don't know where you guys are getting 'metrocop' from. That's like... gas masks and stun batons. Granted we have half of that, but... If you're talking about real world cops, well, I guess there's a reason most security firms favor white, navy blue, or regular blue. I dunno. I like Sec kinda looking like Black Mesa sec.
canon35 Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 We're missing the biggest thing here. What's gonna happen to our street rep when we switch from the Bloods to the Crips? Also, I suppose Blue Sec is fine. Red is starting to become very old.
LordFowl Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 If the only reason for a switch is "meh the old colour was getting old" then that means in a while we'll be seeing "meh blue got old", canon.
Guest Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 But that's not the case here. First impressions mean a lot, Fowl. If you see a tall, imposing person with a stun rod maglocked to their belt, wearing a dark red jumpsuit and sunglasses with an intimidating red tint, you're gonna feel threatened. And no matter how they come off as, you're still going to see them as an oppressor, and not as a peacekeeper. Making the transition to make officers more approachable, in this case, in terms of looks, is a development decision worth spending time and effort on.
Guest Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Just my take on this. If you feel like switching the colours just because you feel like it, go for it. I have no strong feelings on this one way or the other. Beyond that, I seriously doubt this is going to have any effect other than making our sec look different. I mean, you're just switching their uniform colours. Badcurity officers wont turn into Goodcurity under the influence of a single colour change, and I doubt people who feel like chucklefucking around with security will feel discouraged because they look like real cops now. However, if this is going to be a change I request someone colours the consoles, folders and airlocks red too. Blue uniforms in a red department is going to look akward.
SgtSammac Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 However, if this is going to be a change I request someone colours the consoles, folders and airlocks red too. Blue uniforms in a red department is going to look akward. If you take the time to look at the screenshots Sue has posted, that's already been done.
Loow Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Firstly, I am a fan of Red sec. I like the look of the uniforms, I like the look of the department, and I all around see red as a good color for security as a department. However, quite a bit of work has been put into the Bluniforms as well as the mapping of Blue Sec. At this point, I want to try Blue sec. I see the amount of effort that has gone into making a Blue Security and I concede that it would be a waste to not at least give it a fair shot. At this moment, I look forward to trying out Blue-curity. The change has been announced as imminent, and I'm willing to try something new. I'll give Blue Sec a go during this trial run and see how I like it. Hopefully we'll all see how we stand on the matter and have a nice chat about Red sec and Blue Sec.
Guest Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 So far, I like it, but I have a few critiques. HoS hat looks like a crappy ghetto traffic cop hat. The brim covers way too much over the eyes. Fix pls. HoS jacket is cool, HoS vest I would like to have blue trim instead of the gold trim. Would be cool. Also, possibly having the tint of the vests a bit greyer? The pure black doesn't quite fit too well with the rest of the uniform. Trenchcoat a shit but then again it doesn't fit too well on women, so what would I know. Might suit other people's tastes of Adam Jensen commander or something. Also, SecHUD sunglasses. Instead of the red tint, possibly a dark navy blue? Would set it apart from medical HUDs, of course. Also, Cadet uniforms would be cool if they were white and baby blue. *nod*
Jamini Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 In-game these uniforms and the department color change looks a /lot/ worse than it does from forum pictures. Especially once you start adding in other security gear. Like, really really bad. Atrociously bad.
Guest Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 This isn't really the feedback thread for it, so hold on to what you want to say, I'll be making the feedback thread soon
monkeysfist101 Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 I'm working on a list of changes that should be made to bluecurity's uniform that will lower the suicide rates of people who play security. 1. Bring back the black uniform (albeit with blue accents) 2. Bring back the Corporate Security Hat. 3. Change the warden's hat. It looks REALLY bad. 4. Change the borgs to security blue. 5. Change the vomit yellow accent to silver or grey. I may add later, but for now, these are the most glaring.
NebulaFlare Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 I'm gonna miss the red. But that's me. (Rose's poem, A Drop Of Red, won't apply anymore. Meh.) My only concern with the blue security: the sprites all make them look fat! Like they ate too much donuts! They don't...look like lean respectable guardians of a prestigious research station. They look more like glorified mall cops. >.< (I'm sowweeee) It's the only thing that bugs me. And it's not very gender neutral. I don't know how, but all of the officers look exceedingly masculine now. There's something I do want to point out: ERT security suits are a very nice red. If I see them, there's a sense of relief that they're around to save the station. But the commander is blue, so if ERT security is recolored, what is the new commander color? Then again, ERT are also very military-like, not civilian. I think my only concern is this'll set a stigma for blue security and blue command. Security is meant for all personnel, not just command. Maybe a different color? How about a dark-blue, or navy? And keep Command a solid blue? Or maybe a brown-red for security, instead of solid red?
