Nik
I'm not even going to make a long post. We have like three different people who have sprited this before. Make Security blue. Red is dumb. Red is antagonist color, and it's against basic's of what colors you want the good guys in. It looks bad. Blue looks good. Can we please. If Security must suck because of it's suckiness. Can we at least Fashion souls. Link to comment
SgtSammac
I can live with either set of uniform. However I am simply going to state this. "Why change what is not broken?" It is literally something so minor that in my opinion it is almost insignificant and I see minimal reason to change other than "oh it looks a bit better and different." However having used the blue Shirt and pants warden uniform, they look swank as fuck, but that on its own is not a suitable reason. Link to comment
Cassie
Security is made red for a reason; it's to hide the blood on their uniform after they harmbaton prisoners. Everyone knows this. Link to comment

Guest
And brown boxers to shit themselves in when nuke ops start attacking the station. Still. Blue security.. eh. NanoTrasen is all about the blue, but I think security has always been defined as the black, red, and more red of the station. It's iconic. Link to comment

Guest
Like I said though, the first thing you think of when you hear the word "security" in an ss13 context (besides police brutality), would be red. It's honestly way too iconic to change. I love Sue's sprites, but. Ehh. Link to comment
GlamourChariot
Honestly blue would make more sense, but god damn the "Cadet" uniform looks bad ass in its current state oof~ (Pink Unicron Squad for Nuke OPS when) Link to comment
mrimatool
Find it funny how I mentioned this in the lore chat and everyone dismissed it including Nik. But honestly making security blue was something we have wrestled with for a long time. I'd love to see it happen even if it was just by replacing all the red in security with blue or just making new sprites all together. Either way. Blue blue blue blue Link to comment

Not only that, but it would be stupidly easy to do. I'll talk to Skull today about giving these a trial run. I presume everyone here is satisfied with the sprites Susan here has contributed? Guest
Am I satisified with the sprites? Absolutely, they are very good. Comfortable with making security blue, even for a trial run? I'll pass and oppose that, to be honest. Link to comment
Jamini
Blue is the color of command in SS13. Please do not make it so officers can be mistaken for command. Command - Blue Medical - Green Science - Violet Security - Red Engineering - Orange Atmospherics - Light blue Cargo - Brown Keeping department colors distinctive and immediately recognizable is important. Please do not make security look like they belong in a department they do not. Especially not a department with actual, IC authority higher than most officers have. Link to comment
Guest
I'm agreeing with Jamini on this one. If we change the colors then we would have to change other department colors as well. It's not just the uniforms it's the doors, floor tiles, radio chat, lockers, computers, and hud glasses. Red is a psychological color that shows warning to grab attention, it's there to make people go oh security are here, I should behave or I might get in trouble. Link to comment
SgtSammac
I personally do not like Sues sprites. Don't get me wrong they are ducking brilliant, but they are too modern day... heck they ain't even that modern they look like 1980's/1990's police officers. Also point of note regarding uniforms. THESE ARE SECURITY. NOT POLICE. Sue's uniforms better suit police officers than security in my opinion. Edit: Actually went and took a second look, to be honest its only really the hat that irks me more than anything, but we have alternates so you wouldn't have to have that hat. (AKA blue beret, corporate sec cap.) Plz don't change the wardens hat. I like my Royal Military Police cap. xD Â Link to comment
Chaznoodles
I'm sure this has been brought up before. Personally, I like the current red icons, as they're a warning sign, and also nods to a lot of sci-fi works. Link to comment
Nik
Chaz, we shouldn't be referential. And theirs a far more stupid point to the red, that Sec and Most antags are in red. As well, it leaves people wanting to be more violent because of (Blah blah color psychology ducks) and I just don't want this stupid red outfits like we are a bunch of preppy fans of a football team. And to point out, Command is blue and gold, Sec would be blue and black. Sec is the closest thing to command in terms of the wings by being the one who "commands" law and protocol dictated by command and NT. You don't tell command by dark blue. You tell them by the dark grey (captain coat) cyan (CMO coat) white (Ce hardsuit) brown (RD COAT) or black (HOS coat). Even if you count the blue captain outfit, no bodies going to mistake three sec officers and a detective rushing in as all being the captain. Link to comment
Jamini
And to point out, Command is blue and gold, Sec would be blue and black. Sec is the closest thing to command in terms of the wings by being the one who "commands" law and protocol dictated by command and NT.  No. They. Are. Not. Get that thought out of your head. They are the ones who uphold regulations and help command maintain order. They are absofuckinglutly not command, command's right-hand men, or the law. Security have no authority above other departments, except when it comes to protecting other staff and making sure orders from the real commanders are being followed. They have no authority as commanders in any way. None. Fin. End of story. If you feel they do you are objectively wrong  You don't tell command by dark blue. You tell them by the dark grey (captain coat) cyan (CMO coat) white (Ce hardsuit) brown (RD COAT) or black (HOS coat). Even if you count the blue captain outfit, no bodies going to mistake three sec officers and a detective rushing in as all being the captain.  That isn't the point. The point is that by giving them authority and appearance of command you are putting security above the crew and above their station. Security are there to protect the crew and ensure that things run smoothly, they should not have any indication that they are above the rest of the crew in any way. Command colors are blue. Dark blue. Both the captain and HOP have uniforms in this color. Other heads of staff have the colors of their departments (CMO is white and green, CE is white and yellow, HOS is red and black, RD is special) Light blue is atmospherics. Security has no business in command colors. Security colors are black, white, and red and should remain as such. Edited March 24, 2015 by Guest Link to comment
Susan
Blue is a literal color. It is not going to make anyone think sec is command. Lord. Just use a different shade of blue, Christ. Cops in Chicago wear white shirts sometimes, no one confuses them with paramedics. Link to comment

Nik
We act like people stick to colors in the first place, anyway. We could just have blue outfits along with the red ones as well, but that wouldn't make anyone happy. Of course, I'm pretty sure Jamini doesn't even play Sec, so this argument feels peculiar. Or he does, I have no clue. But as the person who use to Main HOS, I constantly wanted Sec to look more like an actual security force and not a bunch of Bozo's from Star Trek. Link to comment
Susan
Red isn't a proper color. There are a lot of reasons police officers wear blue uniforms, but probably the most important is the apparent psychological effect blue has on other people. According to a study conducted by the University of Georgia, blue subconsciously makes people feel comfortable and secure, which is literally what security is there to do. Red, however, is associated with romance but also evil and blood. Of course, yadda yadda pseudoscience, but the point is red is the most glaring, awful choice for security. It's not about 'making them visible'. You can still see cops in a crowd despite their blue uniforms. Red is an intense color that doesn't evoke the same comforting emotions that blue does. Then use the black or red Trouser/white shirt combo? Either way they don't look that much like Star Trek when fully dressed. Nor do they look like "preppy football college supporters" I don't see why you keep pulling these weird analogies out of your ass, they do nothing to help your argument. (Other than the Star Trek one because yes they probably were very originally based on the Star Trek red shirts. As for this argument of psychology of colours. It's a game god damnit people not real life. I still maintain that I am happy with red or blue and we should give it a try and see how people like it after a trial period. Link to comment
