Guest Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 When mesons got removed way back when, it harshly nerfed the xenoarcheologist role with nothing really to compensate. All the locating tools they have points them solely to anomalies, which are much more rare than fossils are. Bay has something like Mesons called material scanner goggles, which as I understand it, would show the fossils without acting as pseudo nightvision, which is why they got removed in the first place. Please, let the xenoarchs have something.
DronzTheWolf Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 Materials got removed from mining, so good luck getting them back for xenoarch.
Sparky_hotdog Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 I'm going to preface this with the fact that I started playing xenoarch in late July 2020, and very quickly found myself burned out of the role, to the point where I'm now pretty certain I'm retiring that character from play. The reason behind this burnout was pretty simple too: I'd spend anywhere between 30 minutes and an hour on the rock, before coming inside, spending another hour RPing my findings, only for the shuttle to be called at two hours and for me to realise I was only half done, having never spoken to another character that whole round. Rinse and Repeat. It was frustrating, and the main reason being how long it takes to find an anomaly (which is realistically the best way of finding artefacts too). So yes, I'd agree xenoarchs need a better and faster way of finding anything. If what Dronz said is correct (which given that I vaguely remember materials being a thing before, it probably is) then that's likely not an option. I don't really have any better ideas unfortunately, but xenoarchaeology definitely need to be able to cut down on their EVA time imho.
Guest Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 Could hide it behind research levels, or just keep it exclusive to xenoarch to avoid bullshittery with them being around for anyone and everyone to abuse.
niennab Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 If the developers are wary of adding material scanners back in, I wonder if a reduction of distance on the artifacts would help as well. Nothing is worse than getting am artifact that reads as 200+ away on the meter. If the round is already one hour in, I know I can't get it back in time.
Guest Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 My main issue is that searching for the large anomalies and only the large anomalies leaves all the solo strange rocks un-located. The alden-sarenspova whatsit only points you to anomalies, when there are artifacts without anomalies that are nearly impossible to find without some way of scanning the rock. Maybe they could alter the counter so that you could tune to large or small artifacts.
geeves Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 i have an idea for this, gonna make a PR when i get back home
geeves Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 here's my crack at it https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/11218
Guest Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 You're a saint geeves. Even this little bit would make life so much easier.
