Desven
BYOND Key: (byond key) Desven Character Names: (character name) Pierre Godard (surgeon) Species you are applying to play: (species name) Vaurca What color do you plan on making your first alien character: (Color of your character; Dionaea & IPCs exempt) RGB 41, 0, 0 Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: (One paragraph minimum) So when I first joined Aurora they were the Vaurcae were the ones that caught my eye at first, because the concept of an ant-like playable species seemed interesting. I eventually continued in game and would always look to Vaurcae with curiosity, and if you were to ask me two weeks ago, I would've probably applied as a Skrell first than to Vaurca. However, I feel like the Vaurcae fit my playstyle perfectly. From the social awkwardness that can stem from them living among humans, to the RPing challenge that they posses. I also don't feel ready to leave medical, and would like to try a pharmacist Vaurca; my knowledge of the game is mostly limited to the the medical department and, in that way, I feel like I am also like the Vaurcae. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: (One Paragraph minimum) Besides being cool because they're really alien-like, I think the mechanical differences would make me understand my time in the server differently. Not that I run around carelessly, but rather, having constantly in mind the need for Koi and Phoron adds to a nice change. That aside, I feel that what's probably the biggest Vaurcae challenge is the friendship dynamics. I asked Roostercat if all Vaurcae are meant to be annoying and they said no, that only a lot of them tend to be so because of their understandable frustration in living among humans. Unlike Skrell, or Tajara, or IPCs, I feel like many of the Vaurca on the station, because of their eusocial nature, struggle to understand our societies. I love the situations where as Pierre I have to interact with diametrically different characters, and the otherness of the Vaurcae would give me more opportunities to play those scenarios. And the language, of course. I'm already coming up with how to zpeak like one. Character Name:(Character name) Ka'Viax'Vher Zo'ra Please provide a short backstory for this character (Approximately two paragraphs) As part of a new alliance between the Zo'ra hive and Zeng-Hu Pharmaceuticals, the Vaur brood prepared a new line of Vaurcae ready to perform the cheap labor required by the corporation and to meet their standards. Vher is around one and a half years old, and for the most of his life has been the chemist drone Zeng-Hu desires. After the recent changes that have occurred aboard the Aurora, he has then been transferred there, to ensure the quality of the pharmaceutical production meets their standards, as well as to make sure little to no substances are wasted. Because of that, Vher might disagree with some of his non Zeng-Hu employed colleagues way of working, however, because he is a Viax, he would rarely, if ever, voice this concern, and most likely would just hand out his CMO complaints, as long as they are allowed. Besides his Zeng-Hu sponsored database implant, he has been also been provided with extensive bureaucratical instructions, requiring forms to be filled for most of the medicines needed on the department, as well as a lot of paperwork for any requisition anybody else might require. Although his nature of a Viax and his corporate procedures might appear to have stripped away any of his individuality, when he was working at Zeng-Hu headquarters at Eridani, as an aid in the research for newer, better patents for pharmaceutics, he developed quite an interest in humanity lifestyle, particularly from what he saw whenever going his way back home, and enjoys watching baristas do their work, reality holo TV and papercrafts. What do you like about this character? (Describe what you like about this character) I like in game bureaucracy, I think filling out all those forms is really fun and I want to contribute to the expanding lore of Zeng-Hu in a way that can also make impact in the departmental operations. I plan to expand on Vher's individuality as he gets to interact with his peers, and learn to handle his emotions without being whiny or annoying. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I'm not sure... I guess I could get at the very least a 'I tried' blue ribbon, though. Notes: bug gang bug gang Edited March 15, 2021 by Desven typo and confused a word Link to comment
Lordnesh
I'm still new to Vaurca, but I'll toss in my two cents. I think you may need to reconsider making a Viax. Since, they're basically lobotimites with no sense of self, and it seems like this one has a bit more personality than one would expect to see from a bound. But, again, I'm still getting a feel for things, so perhaps someone with more experience could comment. Link to comment
Colfer
Hello. I've been playing vaurca viax for a really long time and gotten what people tell me is very good at it. Vaurca viax can be programmed to respond in certain ways with kindness, but its not because they are kind, its because they are programmed to respond in that way. A viax is lobotomized in all sense of the word, a viax can, and will throw away their life at the word of an akaix of their hive, and wouldnt exactly do almost anything outside of their job aside from wait for orders, and maintain their basic life functions like breathing, eating, and drinking and health. I always tell people that I no longer have work, and will remain completely still in one spot of the station until something comes up where I either have work, or have to move. Though you dont exactly have to do that In summary, I don't think this viax would actually exist, and would be more of a under-developed akaix or an akaix thats purposely made to be less personable, but seeks to follow the passions he still has left. A viax wouldnt exactly develop any interests, or enjoy anything. They are made to work through and through and the vaurca have perfected them. Quote Although his nature of a Viax and his corporate procedures might appear to have stripped away any of his individuality This specifically. A viax IS stripped of any of his individuality, they have none what so ever to the point where they might not even be sentient beings anymore. This is as much as I know, that is, plus I would highly recommend using an akaix as your application as viax applications dont demonstrate a very appealing understanding of the lore when describing the character, as viax are almost entirely separate entities from vaurca aside from being a bug and being controlled by bugs Edited March 15, 2021 by Colfer Clerifying some mistakes and showing self-proclaimed proper usage of viax Link to comment
Desven
Okay, so in that case, I believe most of what I wrote for my character could stand for an Akaix, yes? I do like the idea of the Viax, however, it does sound like I should either tone done the personality or switch altogether. Link to comment
Colfer
11 minutes ago, Desven said: Okay, so in that case, I believe most of what I wrote for my character could stand for an Akaix, yes Somewhat, it would need to be cleaned up in a few areas. Akaix are sentient, and have freewill, otherwise they would be a viax, It would be important to specify that your akaix was designed for the role they are given, and probably spent the majority of their life in VR training to be a chemist, as well as why they chose to be a chemist, or if they were chosen by somebody else (such as the queen) to do the job. I wouldnt say that they would be created for cheap labor, since the akaix is a sentient beings, but Zeng-Hu could have seized the opportunity to have a new influx of fresh and well trained vaurca chemists just exiting VR with a boat of knowledge in their head at a price or providing additional resources or some form of agreement to hire them first, and perhaps your akaix was one among the many applicants that showed prowess and didnt get discouraged or depressed at the fact that they no longer had VR to call their home anymore, and got to stay. Though I admit that I do not play akaix very frequently and I may be rusty on the specifics. Somebody might be better suited to answer or clerify the quoted question Quote It does sound like I should either tone done the personality or switch altogether. I would honestly recommend switching, as toning down the personality of the viax would expose you to the problem of viax applicants, they are in majority, just robots that vaurca have made, subserviant machines that dont demonstrate much knowledge of vaurca lore or understanding of the personality, you dont have to play an akaix after the application is approved but making an application with an akaix to demonstrate that you know how their mind works and how they feel about the world around them would be the best course of action in my opinion Edited March 15, 2021 by Colfer Forgot to address the second quoted item Link to comment
Desven
After seeing Lordnesh's adorable Akaix, I'll rework my character to be Akaix too, and eventually make a Viax EMT that is too stupid to use the hypospray with anything other than inaprovaline. I'll leave Vher's post as it is, so that someone from staff read the original idea, and tomorrow I'll likely post an updated version as a response if there are no questions from loredevs first. JamOfBoy
I refrained from commenting because I was waiting on the updated version you were allegedly going to provide, but it hasn't come yet, so. Application denied. As a side note, On 15/03/2021 at 07:51, Desven said: Viax EMT that is too stupid to use the hypospray with anything other than inaprovaline. Please don't. Viax aren't stupid about the jobs they're made for. You'll get in trouble. Link to comment
