sonicgotnuked
BYOND Key: SonicGotNukedStaff BYOND Key: @ShesTryingGame ID: cbi-dGr4Reason for complaint: Spoiler While I respect their decision and I will follow it, I still disagree heavily with it and I feel that this is a reasonable job variety to have expertise in bluespace, xenoarchaeology, and anomaly study. I want some clarification on what a reasonable knowledge hop is between sub-departments. The guide, that the rules link, informs the player that Research and Development does RnD, then can conduct duties like chemistry, toxins, telescience, modular weaponry, and circuitry. The general science job encompasses a lot more sub-departments then an xenoarchaeologist and seem generally allowed to do most, if not all of these tasks without infringing on the rules. With the statement 'stick to your specialization,' you could argue that xenoarchaeology should never do anomaly study while anomaly study should never EVA. Scientists should never build themselves the equipment for weapon construction since you'd be crossing into engineering. Engine techs should never fix hull breaches. These all have potential round impacts. Robotics doing RnD was a unique issue due to robotics building entire RnD labs, completing all research, and having the ability to mass produce both weapons, hardsuits, and mechs for the entire station. Due to the massive controversy within both players and the staff, this was fixed by adding an access requirement which has curbed the problem since. These cross departmental job abilities are allowed by the rules specifically stating that cross-departmental knowledge must be believable. I think, as a skrell, limiting my knowledge to three sub-departments within science is a perfectly reasonable limitation of knowledge. I was not infringing on other player's jobs within the department as the telescience lab remained unused the entire shift. TL;DR: I feel that it's perfectly reasonable for a skrell xenoarchaeologist to understand bluespace and how it works. Evidence/logs/etc: Additional remarks: None Link to comment
Garnascus
Easy way to solve this, i will ping the current skrell loremaster and have them give their take on this. Link to comment
Garnascus
Shot caelphon, the skrell lord a DM on discord. This was his response Intuitively i probably would have made the same call @ShesTrying does but then again i know next to nothing about species lore. As far as i am tracking this is looks like its perfectly acceptable for a skrell character to know both xenoarcheology and bluespace manipulation. Link to comment
