Bring back thermals?

I know this is probably a horrible idea, which, when it comes to the general quality of my ideas, is saying something. But I miss those precious shiny red goggles something awful, and would like to see them back.

For those of you who don't know what they are! Thermal goggles are red meson-looking things that don't let you see through walls but do let you see people through walls. They also let you see cloaked people (Notaproblem anymore, thank goodness.) The HoS, warden, and detective used to get a pair each, except the warden's one spawned on the all access side of the warden desk and the first officer who got it was pretty much the person who won the round forever and everyone would be jealous. If you get EMPed while thermalling, your eyes take like a million damage too.

I admit I have pretty much no solid basis for suggesting this besides 'I want them back.' Even if it's in a limited capacity, like just one or two instead of the full three. Or R&Dable (ha ha okay. maybe with illegal levels or diamonds) or orderable. Really.

There was a pretty good reception in OOC, so even though this is a meritless, terrible idea, I wonder if enough people will support it to push it through anywaaaay.

I'd love it if the HoS, warden, and detective spawned with those. Would make criminal hunting easier especially if science could make them for most of security to wear.

I'm going to have to say no. Simply because thermals are military grade gear. There's literally nothing constructive I can think of aside from it being military grade gear. It just wouldn't be supplied to crew.

you can do better than this. there are so, so many reasons why this is an indefensibly bad idea and you're going with the arbitrary fluff decision.

you can do better. hang up and try again.

Yet Science can manufacture SMGs.... The same ballistic weapons the ERT uses...

Then give science the ability to make thermals, which solves cheap abuse from sec while giving them limited availability?

It's not because you can make something that it's a good idea to. Sure, a research lab in real life might have the ability to manufacture grenades, or jury-rig (or even machine) SMGs, but it doesn't mean that they should do so and arm the building's security team with them.

Why is it so hard for you people to do things.

Make it a thing in the Armory, and give one to the HOS. Or just the Armory.

On a side note, for the love of flying fennit foxes, I still feel uncomfortable that scientists can just MAKE some of the best weapons in the game, without lockboxes on them.

Right, as someone that plays security mostly having to deal with a scientist that spent ALL of the materials on guns is not fun.

A fun thought to entertain. But no. Not for security, not at round start, anywhere. I make a point out of not giving everyone everything they could ever dream. And here's why: it removes challenge, interaction and potential for conflict.

Also, suspense. It removes so much suspense to just blatlantly see the culprit hiding in a firecloset, poised to strike you as you enter the door. It removes the need for you to be aware, to think, and to fear. It's also rather shit from the antag's PoV, you can't dodge lazy security anymore. Instead you'll get shredded by even lazier security. Please no.
