Yonnimer Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 (edited) BYOND Key: Yonnimer Character Names: Spoiler Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Most likely a Dark-yellowish, haven’t messed around with customization of one all that much, dunno what I’ll like yet. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yuh Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I just think they’re neat. I’ve had some interest in the species for a while, especially a wasteland lore. I like the idea of an archaic, more traditionalist species suddenly meeting other more advanced species that all have an incredibly different culture to them, the contrast between cultures and how they either try to adapt and/or fight against change is just a pretty interesting setting for them. I also really like the idea of the wasteland, groups trying to maintain their more traditional values while also having to survive in an almost post-apocalyptic setting is a neat setting to have. I like their cultures and settings and how it affects characters from the species. I’ve wanted to apply for a while, just haven’t had any good character ideas or major motivation to do so until some recent work on nymph-limbs. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Unlike human and skrell who have been in space for centuries now, Unathi have only been able to travel the stars for the past few decades, also unlike most other species when it was a more gradual, natural advancement, it was a very sudden advancement for the species, going from a very archaic, almost medieval-era world and being introduced to advanced technology and space travel. Their experiences growing up are generally going to be vastly different compared to most other species. They’re more religious compared to most human factions, faith is more important to most members of the species. At least on Moghes, Older Unathi have lived through a time before contact with other species and advanced technology was present for them, witnessed the discovery of other species, watched or even participated in a massive worldwide war, saw their planet be nuked to hell and back, and were either forced to leave the planet or live in what they’d most likely see as a distorted home they once loved. Most younger Unathi have only heard stories of the old world, they may see remnants of it but never got to experience it. This can create all kinds of unique mentalities for the species, perhaps a longing for the way the world used to be, resenting humans and skrell for, in their eyes, ruining their homeworld. They could try and cope with the changes, trying to maintain their traditional values while adapting to their new world/the spur as a whole. There’s also plenty of more minor differences that add up to help the species feel different. They can’t really eat non-meat, not to the point of being able to rely on it for nutrition at least. They’re not adapted for the cold, a temperature comfortable to a human might be too cold for a Unathi. There are also differences such as not being able to drink ethanol-based alcohol, only butanol, which could possibly make them interested in finding out what the former tastes like, although not being capable of drinking it without issue. Character Name: Hukleki Suzira Please provide a short backstory for this character Born in 2439, a few months prior to the nuclear exchange of the contact war, Hukleki was the third and youngest child of a Tk’akh peasant family, having both an older brother and sister from the same clutch of eggs. His father was in a levy fighting in the Izweki army and died during the initial nuclear exchange. As a result of their young age at the time, Hukleki didn’t get to experience life before the nuclear exchange and only has very hazy memories of it and the immediate aftermath. While their clan’s village wasn’t directly hit with any bombs, radiation carried by the winds caused a decent amount of his village to get sick with major radiation poisoning, with many being left weakened or dying, with Hukleki’s older brother being one such casualty As a result of long-term radiation poisoning, Hukleki was left as sickly as a child, not quite to the extent of being bedridden, but leaving them fairly lethargic and a bit weaker compared to most of his peers. Eventually migrating away from their old village with most of their clan, Hukleki settled in a less radioactive part of the wasteland with most of his family. Most of the town’s economy came from fixing up damaged vehicles used in the wasteland, as well as salvaging and repairing broken vehicles and equipment to resell. The income made from this trade was enough to survive, although never truly thrive. With all the ruined settlements nearby Hukleki became quite enthralled about learning about the times prior to the nuclear exchange, often exploring absconded structures to see if they could find anything interesting. During one of these escapades, the building he was in collapsed on him, leaving him badly wounded and his right arm mangled. While he did manage to survive the endeavor, his right arm had to be amputated, leaving with a missing arm. Being left without the option for a prosthetic nor want for one due to his faith, Hukleki remained with a missing limb until a group of wandering Sk’akh priests passed by, noticing his predicament. They suggested he travel with them to a village known to use Dionae to help maintain their crops to possibly get one to help function as his missing limb. While initially a bit hesitant to leave his home, he did eventually agree to join them. Traveling for almost a month, Hukleki did eventually reach the village and remained there for around four months, aiding the locals. Hukleki did manage to befriend a nymph known as Brittle, allowing them to sample some of his blood and talk about what they saw while exploring. Eventually Brittle did agree to join him and act as his arm, with the two now acting as one and finally returning back to Hukleki’s home. Upon returning Hukleki did continue his village’s trade of maintaining and repairing damaged wasteland vehicles, however as more and more unathi left the village to seek employment and education elsewhere, along with a dwindling income, Hukleki was given to leave to try and seek employment elsewhere, eventually landing in Skalamar while seeking employment. Having difficulties finding well-paying work, Hukleki began to look for work off-world, and eventually agreed to sign up with NanoTrasen and move to Biesel. While not exactly thrilled to leave his home to travel lightyears away to an alien nation, he believed it’d be a better opportunity than remaining behind to learn more modern skills, as well as support his clan. Due to his experience with maintaining vehicles, Hukleki signed on as a mechatronic engineer, however, lacking the formal education required he has had to initially start as a lab assistant while getting through his education. As a way to make more money to send back home and to help become a citizen, Hukleki joined the TCFL while remaining as a NanoTrasen lab assistant, although plans to leave after a year is up. Eventually, Hukleki does want to return to Moghes to settle back down with his clan, however, in the meantime has been content with sending any extra money he can to help aid them. What do you like about this character? Personally, I like the idea of a young unathi character longing to experience and learn about a world he never really knew. It may be an interesting conversation topic to talk to older unathi characters about their time before the first contract war. I also admittedly have been wanting to make a mechatronic-focused lab assistant again for a while after my last character kind of had to be deleted due to some regulation changes. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I’d like to say around an 8/10. Admittedly I sometimes have issues remembering lore and need to look it up to remind me, however not to the point it causes issues outside of sometimes having a slow response time. Bear Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 Yonni does the rp good. +1 What will your char's take be in sharing space with and handling the rather loud and obnoxious guwans lurking on the station?

I'd imagine he wouldn't be a fan of it. Not to the point of wanting to start a fight with them right away, but probably be cautions around them, assuming they could be dangerous and try to attack them based off of what they would've been told about Guwans.
Marlon P. Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 Good application! I like the answers to the questions and the background of the character.
Shadow7889 Posted October 30, 2021 Posted October 30, 2021 +1 lore is there in the story and I love the application of joint existance and teamwork with dionae. Question for you, given they intend to work in science/robotics, will they keep headstrong with their faith, or get a robotic arm? or will the dionae stay with them as a part of them?

I'd imagine they will keep their faith/wouldn't want to get a prosthetic just because they're working in robotics, however if they ever did become a full-blown roboticist they'd have to be willing to give others prosthetics to do their job properly. Even if they did, after having the nymph functioning as their arm for a few years he'd have some kind of bond with it, one that I doubt would be broken super easily.
Haydizzle Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 The wheels of fate turn under the rivers of time, and unfortunately, sometimes the monotony of the motions can be deceptive to how quickly time is passing.
