Editor's Note: Our Mission

On behalf of the staff of the Caprice Sun, I wish to thank all of you who supported this newspaper to come to fruition. Founded after the Court of Queens Session of 10-25-2463, our goal is to have an outlet for everything related to Vaurcae. Ever since their arrival to Biesel, their voices have been desperately in need of being heard. Passionate stories from countless lives and an ancient culture have been neglected due to xenophobia. It is time to change that and let the Vaurcae be heard and seen for what they truly are.

Our subscribers can expect to read everything related to the three great Hives that have pushed the economy of the Orion Spur forward. Our talented team of writers is non-partisan when it comes to inter-Hive issues, and will treat them all with dignity.

If you have anything to say to us, you can write to our address in Balbuena Avenue #58, Belle Cote, Biesel. We try to read all the mail and your letters might even become featured in a future issue!

We hope you enjoy our coverage and, most importantly, promote tolerance and respect towards the Vaurca people.

New Vaurca Queen Announced!

The Court of Queens shared some exciting news today. Inside their chambers in New Sedantis, the K’lax Hive crowned a new Queen.

Vaurcae were informed of this decision almost immediately. It is usual for when a new Queen emerges in the Zo’ra or K’lax Hive that there is a strong signal sent through the Hivenet. Today, with Vaurcae all over the Orion Spur, the signal may have reached even the farthest corners of the Skrellian Traverse.

For us, however, we had to await for the official announcer to address the press that the Court of Queens requested to be present one day before. While we had our ideas of who the new Queen might be, it still surprised us to hear her name. Everyone, welcome Ta’Akaix’Tupii’maxk’rekxak K’lax!

Queen Tupii has been on our radar for a while now. Just a few days ago, we published an article speculating if the K’lax Hive was ready to elect a new Queen. For those unaware of Tupii’maxk’rekxak, here is a brief introduction to this wonderful leader.

Tupii is one of the eldest surrogates of the original K’lax, and she has remained an important figure in the Hive even today. As one of the Breeders representing the original K’lax brood, she has now been officially recognized for her efforts, and will now take care of her own.

She will reign in Tret, Uueoa-Esa. Her full speech is yet to be available in Basic, but here are some highlights:

“I am honored by the decision my sisters have taken in revitalizing our brood, the original brood of the K’lax Hive, which our Mother founded from nothing and grew to become the jewel of our species.

”We should remember now the troubles she faced when, in Sedantis so long ago, she was all by herself and those first generations of workers that we keep in our records. Similar to her, our Hive and the rest have had to start over again and adapt to this new situation with wonderful partners. We are not alone. We have the Skrell, the humanity and, of course, the Unathi that have assisted us and welcomed us to their own homes.

”I am excited for any future endeavors and remain optimistic about what the future holds.”

As of now, Queen Tupii is to return to Unathite space, while a delegation of her is to join Caprice later this week. The ceremonies will continue there in Tret, alongside the rest of the Hive.

They Were Once Great Warriors, Now They’re Back at it Once More

You are born, you grow up, maybe have children, and then die. That is how the circle of life usually happens for a human. If you’re lucky enough, maybe you’ll reach that 150 year mark. Otherwise, give it more or less a century and you’re good to go. While religions have existed with us for long, the truth is that science still remains uncertain as to whether what occurs after our death. Cloning, as it stands, feels like a far-fetched dream. Vaurcae have managed to find a way around this.

If you’re still unaware of what a neural socket is, think of it as a second brain that develops while you’re living your life. Among the many functionalities of this little quintessential augment, there’s the ability to make a ‘copy’ (or some may even say, transfer) of a Vaurca’s consciousness, so that once they die they will be able to permanently reside in their Afterlife. Understanding Vaurca Virtual Reality can be a doozy, so here’s our Essential Guide Behind Vaurca VR if you need to catch up.

One of the most amazing parts of this is that some Vaurcae may opt to live again by taking a new body. In short, think as if your consciousness was transferred to a blank-state human. It’s basically the same principle, with millennia of experience by the Vaurca people. As cool as it sounds, though, many Vaurcae opt not to do it. After all, spending your eternity in Paradise is more appealing to most of us. However, Queen Tupii has set her mind on changing this.

A month after Tupii’s coronation, she has had to face a hard question: how can she rebuild her long-forgotten brood? Her solution was to rebuild the Warrior lines of the Hive. Preparation for new, golden standard Warriors, however, may take a year, or even multiple years. So she came up with something else: what if those Warriors of old were to make a comeback? It’s certainly unique, and the first time in the history of the available Hives that this happens.

Many of those Great Hive War veterans’ consciousness are speculated to be lost after a tragic accident that occurred back in Sedantis, but those few remaining have been willing to cooperate with the new Queen’s goal. In the words of Za’Akaix’Mylvock K’lax, one of these souls preparing for their ‘resleeving’: “It is a pleasure to, despite the time that has passed since our deaths, to be of use for the Hive again.”

What do you think? Next time you see a Tupii Warrior, think if they’re actually back after a really long hiatus!

Avowals Abolished as the Court of Queens Advance in Vaurca Rights

Since the Vaurcae arrived in human space, special permits for them to join the workforce have been required. This trend began with Nanotrasen, shortly after the Zo’ra were taken as refugees in Biesel. As a means to ensure their quality and to generate trust, the megacorporation established Avowals of Responsibility. Soon after, others like Hephaestus Industries followed with their own iteration.

However, as Vaurcae become more important to our society, avowals began to feel outdated. The topic of avowal abolition is not a new one: in 2461, High Queen Vaur and President Joseph Dorn discussed a work reform. The bill, however, did not go far. After the re-establishment of the Court of Queens in late 2463, abolition became a hot topic for all Hives. Efforts to ensure streamlined incorporation of Vaurca labor in human space began from day one, as it can be read in the public logs of the council.

The results of the Inter-Hive organism are finally here. Last Sunday, Stellar Corporate Conglomerate representatives were invited to the Court of Queens’ chambers. The meeting concluded with positive results: the Vaurca civilization was named a friend of the SCC and avowals are no longer required for active employees of SCC facilities, namely the brand-new SCCV Horizon.

Vaurca employment in human space is now coordinated by the brand-new Commission of Vaurcesian Affairs, located in New Sedantis, Caprice. They serve as liaisons between megacorporations and hive-cells, as well as provide all the necessary paperwork for Vaurca employees.

Local regulations in Skrellian and Unathi space still apply, as well as any requirements from smaller businesses within Tau Ceti.

Veii’ktown Inauguration: Our Review

It’s not easy to call a new place home. Yet, Queen Athvur surprises us with her adaptability.

Not a decade has passed since the Zo’ra Diaspora emerged in Tau Ceti. However, Vaurcae still have few places to consider ‘theirs’. Especially in Biesel, where treatment has been less-than-ideal.

In 2462, Queen Athvur relocated from Phoenixport to Belle Cote. The decision was not easy. In our exclusive interview with the Diva Queen 3 months ago, she stated that “The future of [the brood] is all I could think about when resettling. Have [they] not been through enough?”

That’s how the idea of Veii’ktown was born. A place Vaurcae can call their own. Reminiscent of the ancient Veii’kt Plate capital, its construction was no easy feat. Simply put, Vaurcae and human architecture are too different one from the other—yet Veii’ktown works.

“The secret,” says Ka’Akaix’Perluik Zo’ra, one of the main engineers behind the project, “is to build down and reduce hazards. Flagsdale fails because we are forced to go up and no waste measures were employed. Here, we try to make sure Belle Cote remains safe.”

Veii’’ktown opened with five modest locals: three restaurants, a variety store, and a coffee shop. They are all run by the Zo’ra Hive and promise to use clean k’ois-free products.

I awaited the coffee shop inauguration eagerly. At the end of the street, there was a small archway with traditional Zo’rane motifs. A neon sign cycled through different human languages, “Veii’ktown.”

Coffee is not my forte, but I never reject a good cup. To my surprise, my drink blew my mind. The recipe is considered a Zo’ra especial —don’t worry, though. Only human ingredients are used!

In addition to the staff being lovely, the general ambient on Veii’ktown was refreshing. You don’t always get to interact with that many Vaurcae outside of specific scenarios, such as work. Yet, in Veii’ktown, you can stroll around and learn more about fascinating Zo’ra history.

So next time you stop by Belle Cote, why not visit Veii’ktown? It’s a lovely dining spot or just a nice place to walk on a Sunday afternoon.

Tupii's Warriors across the Spur!

A little over seven months ago, Queen Tupii—the latest K'lax Queen to be inaugurated—made the surprising announcement that she would reinvigorate her brood's Warrior population by resurrecting veterans from as far back as the Great Hive War, which happened over thirty-thousand years ago. More coverage on the subject can be read here.

Most of these old-timers have spent the past few millennia (whew!) inside Virtual Reality. In many cases, they would only interact with each other, or with Vaurcae who lived closer to their time in this universe. This generational gap surely is greater than when you sit down with young children or old folks.

However, Vaurcae (even if long deceased) are known for keeping up with the news. And when Queen Tupii was announced, the Mother K’lax brood received her warmly. Still, despite their acceptance, veterans had a challenge to face: adapt to the ways of the Spur.

With a new wave of Warriors ready to join the Izweski Hegemony Navy ranks, the Caprice Sun approached some of the resleeved Warriors working not only in Unathi space but also as far as Tau Ceti. The in-depth series of interviews are available as a video.

Spoiler

Reporter: "Could I have your name, please?"

Warrior: "I am Za'Akaix'Rena K'lax, but you can just call me Rena."

Reporter: "And your age, Rena?"

Rena: "I am 29,872 years old as of today."

Reporter: "And you fought in the Great Hive War, correct?"

Rena: "Correct."

Reporter: "You must have some impressive stories to tell. If we can ask, as I'm sure we all want to know: How do you feel about your new position after having spent so much time in Virtual Reality?"

Rena: "I'm just happy to be able to serve the Queens again and put my experience to use in this new environment."

Reporter: "Has it been hard getting used to the Spur? I imagine there'll be a lot of new stuff to learn.

Rena: "The Spur is a new environment, but thanks to the guidance of the Queens and the kindness of the Unathi around me, I've been getting used to it quickly."

With probably the longest resume you’ve ever seen, these Warriors are eager to get back into action after so long. New waves of Hive War veterans are expected to arrive in the private security sector, where we’re certain they’ll excel. Can’t Stop the Buzz! Queen Tupii Takes the Spotlight 🐜👑

War in Heaven, Part One: Echoes of War, Article 2

The rumors are true, Hive fam! In an exclusive interview via high-speed extranet with Caprice Sun’s Emily Kaplan, Queen Tupii is finally spilling the tea (or should we say k’ois?) She’s tackling her mysterious rise to power, the controversial Mother Dream, Tret’s terraforming secrets, and the K’lax’s sizzling hot future. 🔥 Get ready, because this Queen is about to become your new favorite Vaurca!

Emily: Your Majesty, this is SO exciting! Thank you for having me! Before we get into the nitty-gritty, why don’t we break the ice a little? Tell our readers a bit about yourself!

Queen Tupii: The pleasure is mine, Emily. As a Queen of the K’lax brood, I am committed to transparency and understanding. My story is one of service, a journey guided by tradition and a deep desire to lead our people towards a secure and prosperous future.

From Sidekick to Queen!👑

Spoiler

Emily: Alright, Your Majesty, your rise to the throne is a seriously fascinating story! But let’s rewind a bit...you weren't always royalty, were you? Tell us about the pre-Queen Tupii. Word is, you were Mother K’lax’s confidante? Sounds pretty mysterious!

Queen Tupii: Serving within Mother K’lax’s inner circle was a profound privilege. My role as confidante provided a unique understanding of the intricate workings of the Hive and the challenges we faced. It was a place of dedicated service and unwavering loyalty.

Emily: 🧐 But no sneaky dreams of wearing the crown yourself? 😉  C’mon, there had to be a moment when you were like, “Hey, I could totally do this Queen thing!”

Queen Tupii: My focus has always been on serving the K’lax lineage to the best of my ability. I never envisioned myself in a position of ultimate leadership. Circumstances changed, the Hive was left vulnerable, and I stepped forward to fill the void.

Emily: And how did a K’lax Surrogate manage to pull that off? 🤔

Queen Tupii: My path to leadership was shaped by a deep desire to aid my kin. The tragedy we faced created a moment of crisis that demanded decisive action. I recognized the difficult situation of our brood and acted upon it.

Emily: And the K’lax Hive bought it? 👀 From what I hear, you’ve got fans on both sides of the aisle—the old-school loyalists AND the pro-Unathi crowd. How’d you manage that?

Queen Tupii: In difficult times, unity and stability are paramount. Finding a balance between preserving traditions that give our populations strength and adapting to our current reality is key to building a strong future.

Emily: That’s a politician's answer if I ever heard one! 😜 But seriously, folks whispered you campaigned on promises of returning to Zo’ra servitude. That’s hardly pro-Unathi, is it?

Queen Tupii: The Vaurca have a complex history, and the K’lax carry ancient traditions. Acknowledging our past does not undermine our ability to embrace progress. My goal is to ensure the K’lax have a secure and prosperous future, regardless of political affiliations.

Emily: Okay, starting to sense a theme—you're all about what's BEST for the K’lax, however you define it. But there’s more going on, a power play beneath the surface, isn’t that right? 😏

Queen Tupii: My priority is the well-being of the K’lax brood and Hive. In times of uncertainty, a leader must act strategically, leveraging all available resources and opportunities to secure our place in the Orion Spur.

Tret’s Terraformer Star: Queen Tupii!

Spoiler

Emily: Speaking of securing the future, let’s talk about Tret! Turning that barren rock into an industrial powerhouse? Major moves! Word is, you were pretty hands-on during that whole process. Is that true?

Queen Tupii: Tret’s transformation was a collaborative effort, a testament to the ingenuity of the K’lax Hive and our allies. My role was one of coordination and strategic vision. It was essential to ensure the project aligned with the long-term needs of our people.

Emily: 🧐 “Coordination”? Girl, please! Don’t act like you were the Hive’s glorified secretary 💅 From what I’ve heard, Tret was basically your brainchild. Aren’t you worried Zkaii, the High Queen, will take all the credit?

Queen Tupii: Tret’s success rests upon the contributions of many. Complex industrial endeavors require specialized expertise, from conception to execution. It’s a leader’s responsibility to harness these skills for the good of the Hive, not for individual glory.

Thoughts on Biesel Elections 🗳️

Spoiler

Emily: Alright, Tupii, we’ve danced around the elephant in the room. Time to cut to the chase! 🕵️♀️ You’ve heard the rumors about a Zo’rane Queen potentially running in the upcoming Biesel elections. We want to hear your take on this!

Queen Tupii: K’lax affairs are mostly restricted to the Izweski Nation. While we have many members of our Hive active in Biesel, the political landscape of a foreign nation is beyond our scope of interest.

Emily: Surely you must think something! K’lax and Zo’ra aren’t known to be BFFs. 😉

Queen Tupii: Historical precedent does not dictate future possibilities. I wish the Republic of Biesel the very best in their upcoming elections and hope that whoever participates embodies the ideals the nation believes in.

Hive War Vets💪💪

Spoiler

Emily: 🤔 Big changes recently, Your Majesty. You’ve been reactivating veteran warriors from the Great Hive War? Talk about dusting off the cobwebs! Isn’t that a bit… risky? These veterans are past their prime, wouldn’t you say?

Queen Tupii: The Vaurca hold valor and experience in high regard. These veterans embody the unwavering courage and strategic brilliance that protected our hives during a dark time. While some may consider them past their prime, I assure you, their training and instincts remain sharp.

Emily: Intriguing. But let’s be honest, some whispers suggest this is more about boosting your military presence for potential future conflicts. 🏆 Is the K’lax Hive preparing to reassert itself in the Orion Spur?

Queen Tupii: The Izweski Nation thrives on a foundation of mutual respect and shared defense. The Vaurca veterans bring a wealth of experience and combat prowess that will undoubtedly benefit the entire Izweski force.

Emily: Or perhaps bolster your own influence within the Izweski? 👀 Let’s face it, these veterans revere tradition and hierarchy. They might be more… receptive to your leadership than, say, some of the younger, more progressive Vaurca.

Queen Tupii: My focus, as always, is on the security and prosperity of the K’lax brood. The Izweski Nation provides a platform for our warriors to serve with honor, while strengthening the collective defense of our allies. It is a win-win situation.

Thoughts on the Mother Dream 🛐

Spoiler

Emily: Speaking of Hive War veterans, that makes me think of Virtual Reality! Seems like there’s a new religion popping up among the K’lax—this whole Mother Dream thing. What are your thoughts on that? 😉

Queen Tupii: The K’lax Hive has faced significant challenges in recent history. It’s understandable that some find solace in traditions. However, progress means embracing change and meeting the needs of the present.

Emily: Sure, but the Mother Dream is an essential part of the faith for many Vaurca. Doesn’t it offer a sense of… well, connectedness with the past? Perhaps even guidance for the present?

Queen Tupii: The Mother Dream holds deep significance for some K’lax. It is a source of heritage and identity. However, sometimes our connection to the past blinds us to the realities of the present. True strength lies in honoring what was, while recognizing the needs of what is.

Emily: Woah, hold up! Did you just subtly imply that Mother K’lax… well, that she might actually be gone? Is this the first time a K’lax Queen has publicly admitted that? 😲

Queen Tupii: Yes. I understand this may seem like a departure from the past. Yet, the K’lax Hive’s strength lies in its ability to adapt. Clinging to interpretations that no longer serve our present needs only weakens us. Sometimes, to truly honor the past, we must acknowledge when its hold prevents us from building a strong future.

Emily: Well, Your Majesty, looks like you just dropped a megaton on the K’lax Hive. I smell a follow-up interview in the future! In the meantime, thanks for your time...and for shaking things up. 😉

...So, what's the verdict? Queen Tupii is definitely shaking things up, and we’re here for it! One thing's for sure—things are about to get spicy in the K’lax Hive, and we’ve got front row seats!

Don’t forget to share and subscribe for more exclusive buzz on the Hive’s hottest drama! And let us know YOUR take on Queen Tupii in the comments—is she a visionary leader or a dangerous disruptor? 💥

Zkaii Blasts Queen Tupii, Hive Veterans in SCATHING Statement 👑🤬

War in Heaven, Part One: Echoes of War, Article 3

Hive fam, the K’lax drama just got HOTTER than Sedantis! High Queen Zkaii, the ultimate K’lax OG, just unloaded a venomous message aimed straight at Queen Tupii, and things are about to get messy.

Here’s the tea: Tupii’s recent interview, where she hinted at the, ahem, “passing” of Mother K’lax, already caused a stir. But Zkaii just took things to a whole new level by BLASTING Tupii’s decision to revive Hive War veterans!

Zkaii’s official statement reads like a royal diss track:

“This Queen misunderstands the needs of the Hive,” Zkaii seethed. “She attacks tradition by saying we cling to the past, yet she relies on ghosts of a war long ended. I am particularly disappointed Tupii chose a Spur-wide outlet to make such reckless pronouncements. Such matters deserve respect, not tabloid treatment.” 🔥

Ouch! Zkaii’s not just questioning Tupii’s ability to lead, she’s throwing major shade at the Hive War veterans Tupii brought back! This is a HUGE blow to Tupii’s image—is she out of touch with the needs of the K’lax Hive? Did she just alienate a powerful demographic with her “veteran revival” program?

However, here’s the real stinger: Many K’lax revere their warriors, especially those who fought in the Hive War. By dissing the veterans, Zkaii might have just become DEEPLY unpopular with a critical segment of the K’lax population. Is this coming back to bite the High Queen?

The Hive is buzzing with questions:

  • Did Zkaii just make a HUGE miscalculation? Will the K’lax public side with Tupii?
  • Could Tupii’s words spark a rift between the broods?
  • Is Zkaii’s reign about to get seriously rocky?

Here’s the lowdown, Hive fam:

  1. Head to the comments! Team Tupii or Team Zkaii—whose side are you on? 🗣️
  2. Share this with your Hive crew! This drama is spreading faster than a Zo’rane battle swarm!
  3. Buckle up! Will Tupii be able to recover from this public drubbing?

Stay tuned, #VaurcaNation, because the K’lax Hive just entered a whole new era of juicy DRAMA! 🍿

A Message from Melissa Wahlberg

War in Heaven, Part One: Echoes of War, Article 8. Part One finale.

To the Caprice Sun Community,

I am announcing my resignation as Editor-in-Chief of Caprice Sun. Recent events have made it clear that the newspaper is no longer aligned with my vision for the publication.

Caprice Sun was founded on the principles of inter-Hive cooperation and understanding. More importantly, it was founded to promote an environment where Vaurcae are treated with dignity. It has been an honor to serve this mission, and I will deeply miss the dedicated team and the opportunity to contribute to such a vital cause.

However, over time, the demands of the news cycle forced difficult choices. This led us to prioritize attention-grabbing stories over our original purpose. I regret that this shift has eroded some of the trust placed in Caprice Sun.

The newspaper and this community deserve a leader wholly dedicated to the values upon which Caprice Sun was built. It’s time for new leadership to steer the paper back towards that vital purpose.

It is my deepest wish that, even in my absence, the publication will uphold its commitment to insightful coverage and foster a culture of understanding and acceptance towards the Vaurca people. Thank you for your past readership.

Sincerely,

Melissa Wahlberg

Letter from the Editor: Towards a Vaurca Future

By Xuqliq Qu’qoq

For years, I’ve watched Vaurca Equality—our non-profit for Vaurca rights in Biesel—struggle to become mainstream. While our cause has overtaken the majority of Mendell City (65% of people say they are “welcome” of Vaurcae in a 2465 survey!), reaching the rest of the planet has been hard. This Herculean task only worsens as we leave the capital. Although Luthien and New Gibson have strong Vaurca communities, discrimination is still rampant. The further we stray from Biesel, the worse the situation gets. In Mictlan, Vaurcae are still seen as wary “outsiders.” In Port Antilla, no Vaurca has ever stepped on the planet.

Last year, our non-profit was invited to give a conference at a progressive Xanan University. As the Marketing Director, I was the bean counter for the whole operation. We spent four months preparing for the trip, a whole odyssey on its own. At times, it seemed that we were about to cancel the project. However, we persisted—we knew this was our one-shot at talking about Vaurca rights abroad. Despite the ever-changing spacefaring rates and the complicated logistics of transporting a Gyne to the Coalition of Colonies, we were all very excited at the possibility of this event. We dreamed about a multitude of students and faculty all interested in talking to Vaurcae for the first time in person.

The end result was disappointing. We had five audience members—three were forced by their professor to attend cultural events and seemed deeply uninterested, one other person appeared to be clueless and left mid-conference, and the fifth audience member was an older gentleman who seemed mildly aware of what Vaurcae even are. In short, it was a disaster, and we all felt that our job was in vain. Nobody dared to ask any questions, and as soon as our speaker stopped talking, the room was emptied.

Crushed, I took the elevator to get some fresh air. At the time, I was carrying a small backpack with my belongings and remembered I had a Zo’ra Soda K’ois Twist with me. I took out the can and prepared my tendrils for a small fizzle. As I was shielding myself from the explosion, a young kid—perhaps the son of a faculty member, no older than 11 years old—hopped on in the elevator with me. He immediately recognized the can and, in a low tone, hummed the Zo’ra Soda jingle. As far as I know, that commercial is only played in Biesellite space—the little bugger might’ve heard it on the extranet. I tried to hide my headbobbing as the kid left the elevator and I rushed to the front door: there it was! The kid might have not known a lot about Vaurcae—he might’ve not even known what a Vaurca was—but that tiny exchange had done more to raise Vaurca awareness than our conference.

That same philosophy is what I want the Caprice Sun to follow: deep conversations about Vaurca rights are in vain if the people cannot connect with the small things. According to the latest statistics in our paper, our readership is comprised of mostly young people from diverse backgrounds and stories. Our articles have received clicks from all over the Orion Spur—though are still mostly read by Biesellites. What we have now is an opportunity to reach even more people by diversifying our offerings while remaining true to our core reader base.

Most importantly, some formulas have been proven to work. Others, however, were not as successful. As a young news outlet, rebranding is not out of the question but expected. This is a great opportunity for us to widen our scope and achieve the Vaurca future we dream of. I’m very excited to be your new editor-in-chief and further this noble cause with you. Let’s start the conversation—spread the word about the Caprice Sun and keep the Vaurca cause alive!

Vaurcae Beyond the Headlines

War in Heaven, Part Two: “Through a Mirror, Darkly,” Article 4

By Sandro Biernhard

The past few weeks have seen a surge in Vaurca-related news, and understandably so. However, here at the Caprice Sun, we believe it’s important to look beyond the current headlines and celebrate the incredible cultural richness and innovation happening within the Vaurca community!

Did you know that Vaurca artisans are at the forefront of a revolutionary new bioluminescent textile movement? Queens Scay and Athvur—luminaries in their field—have been working on a new breed of T’kuxi that produces bioluminescent silk. These vibrant fabrics, inspired by the natural luminescence of some Sedantian creatures, are turning heads (and sparking gasps!) on runways across the Spur. Imagine a dress that shimmers like moonlight or a suit that reflects your mood with subtle color shifts! Vaurca ingenuity is pushing the boundaries of fashion, and we can’t wait to see where they take it next.

But innovation doesn’t stop at fashion. Vaurca engineers are renowned for their problem-solving skills and unwavering determination. Take, for instance, the recent breakthroughs in hydroponic farming techniques pioneered by the Leto brood. The advancements of k’ois production on Pid now promise to revolutionize agriculture on arid planets, potentially even Moghes! Think about a verdant oasis replacing desolate landscapes! It’s a testament to the Vaurca spirit of collaboration and their dedication to building a better future for everyone.

Of course, there are challenges facing the Vaurca community, and we at the Caprice Sun remain committed to responsible journalism. However, we also believe in celebrating progress and fostering understanding. After all, true understanding transcends sensational headlines.

So, let’s dive deeper into the fascinating world of Vaurca culture! In the coming weeks, we’ll be featuring interviews with Vaurca artists, musicians, and scientists. We’ll explore their unique traditions, delve into the history of the broods, and discover the wonders of Vaurca cuisine (spoiler alert: it’s not all k’ois!)

Join us on this journey of discovery, and together, let’s build bridges of understanding and appreciation between the species!

Flagsdale Hornets MVP, Kermak, on Life, Biesel, and Everything Else

[Pictured: Flagsdale Hornets MVP, Za’Akaix’Kermak Zo’ra, wearing a light-blue suit, shaking hands with President Joseph Dorn during a tour of Biesel’s presidential office. The picture was taken in late 2465 after the Cetian Basketball Association Finals championship.]

Flagsdale Hornets superstar, Za’Akaix’Kermak Zo’ra, made an appearance earlier this week on the podcast “Free Throw,” where he opened up about everything from his life and career to the political climate and his personal interests beyond basketball. You can listen to the full episode here.

Kermak joined the Flagsdale Hornets last year, but his basketball journey started much earlier—during his pupal stage. Literally. He was part of Athvur’s Vespas, a pupal basketball team sponsored by the Flagsdale Hornets. All Vespas games take place entirely in Virtual Reality, and while their seasons might seem short in real-time, time dilation allows them to be much longer. Pupal basketball has become a major part of Zo’ra’s sports culture, with the Zo’ra Basketball League now boasting eight teams. The best players from these teams often go on to professional careers, with many joining the Flagsdale Hornets, although some have signed with other CBA teams.

Last year, in his rookie season, Kermak was named CBA Rookie of the Year, sharing the honor with Xochitl Mazaticue of the Caxamalca Axolotls. This year, Kermak took home the CBA Most Valuable Player Award. With a Marques Freeman Trophy now in his collection, Kermak is determined to lead the Flagsdale Hornets deep into the playoffs and secure a second consecutive CBA Championship.

“I think we’re in a great position. We’ve proven we’re a mighty competitor, and while the Portsville Fisherfolk and the Virklund Berserkers also gave it all this season, the playoffs have only proven that we’re still here to give a fight,” Kermak said.

Kermak also touched on broader topics, including his thoughts on High Queen Vaur potentially becoming the Vice President of the Republic of Biesel.

“We’re doomed without her,” Kermak affirmed. “Plain and simple. The political landscape of Biesel is scary, especially if Dorn and Vaur lose. I know I’m very young, so I haven’t been around to actually see what it was like before, but it’s frightening just how much hate is in politics today. I’m mostly worried about vaurphobia, and how vaurphobic candidates are given a platform. It should be a no-brainer to vote for Dorn in the upcoming elections.”

Lastly, Kermak shared insights into his personal life and hobbies off the court. Surprisingly, the point guard lives alone in a penthouse, a departure from the typical communal living of Vaurcae. This revelation intrigued “Free Throw” host, Tyler McAdams, and Kermak was quick to explain:

“I’m into house gardening. You could say I’ve got two green thumbs. My penthouse is full of houseplants—they’re lush and I really like them. I think that’s why I don’t feel lonely all by myself, because I’ve got all these plant friends to keep me company. I also have a cat named Mrs. Naismith. Mrs. Naismith is probably the best cat because she doesn’t chew on the leaves of my plants. They’re all a good bunch, and I enjoy their company.”

Kermak’s life outside the court was largely unknown before this podcast. Hopefully, this interview provides a better insight into the life of the MVP and why he’s considered to be so charismatic!

Newsletter: Celebrate Vaurca History Month with PRIDE!

Hi, all! As you may know, each August we celebrate Vaurca History Month, commemorating the ending of the Great Hive War over 29 000 years ago. August provides the perfect opportunity for us, as allies, to learn about Vaurcae, their history and culture, as well as their long list of contributions to the Orion Spur.

This is my first August as Executive Director of Vaurca Equality and I couldn't be more excited. This time, we've prepared something special: we'll be hosting events alongside some of the most prominent Vaurca voices of the community. At Vaurca Equality, we believe it is our duty to provide platforms for those underrepresented, including the marginalized Queenless community. Be on the watchout for the panel list that'll be emailed to you in the upcoming days.

Additionally, we'll be holding our first Vaurca Pride parade outside our headquarters on August 12, 2466. We invite all Vaurca, regardless of their brood or lack thereof, as well as every ally, to join us and show Biesel that Vaurcae are here and their voices need to be heard.

I also want to thank all Vaurca Equality members for their continuous sponsorship of this mission. Our newspaper, the Caprice Sun, continues to experience many changes as we do our best to deliver the highest-quality content for our readers.

Let's make this Vaurca History Month unforgettable! Your participation and enthusiasm will make all the difference. See you at the events!

The Vaurca Community Reacts to Torvald's Win

[Pictured: Mr. Åke Torvald addresses his supporters after his victory in the Presidential election of the Republic of Biesel.]

Last night, Mr. Åke Torvald, who has faced heavy criticism for his vaurphobic rhetoric, was elected President of the Republic of Biesel, defeating the incumbent Joseph Dorn. The prospect of a Torvald administration has long been a source of concern for many in the Vaurca community and their advocates. Now that it’s a reality, that uncertainty has only grown.

Immediately after the results, from the Dorn HQ, High Queen Vaur delivered a speech to the supporters of the Dorn-Vaur campaign. Her message was one of cautious hope: "In a democratic system, the people choose their representative. While we disagree with Torvald on most issues, we hope he will do his best and continue to uphold democracy. To all Vaurca and our supporters—do not view the future as a dark age, but as part of our ongoing struggle. There's still work to be done, and we will continue fighting for justice for those who need it most."

Vaurca Equality, a nonprofit advocating for Vaurca rights, issued a stark warning that difficult times lie ahead. Spokesperson Sarah Alito stated: "Dark times are ahead for Vaurcae and their allies. Torvald's menace became clear this summer, especially after the undemocratic bill titled the 'Electoral Integrity Enhancement Act' passed at record speed. Now is the time to mobilize and ensure civil rights aren't stripped away further." She also stressed the need for financial support: "We need help. We're a grassroots movement, and we can't do it alone. More than ever, we need support from all Biesellites."

Ta'Akaix'Nuex'ski'llhar Zo'ra, a representative of the Zo'ra Hive in Belle Côte, echoed Alito's concerns: "Vaurphobia is already a problem in New Gibson, one that’s rarely talked about but very real. Belle Côte has a large Vaurca presence, and when my Vaurcae saw Torvald signs on people’s lawns, they felt uneasy. We've increased security due to the fear of potential hate crimes." While no major incidents have been reported, three months ago, a Vaurca Gyne was photographed and mocked by a group of Torvald supporters while visiting an art museum. The incident was viewed as a troubling warning for the Athvur brood.

A central issue under the Torvald administration is the fate of Caprice, a planet considered an overseas province of Biesel. In 2461, Congress established a colonial government there, with potential for increased restrictions. During Dorn’s administration, Caprice’s status was protected to prevent disenfranchisement and ensure the Vaurca population was adequately represented, but current laws allow for changes at any moment. Åke Torvald has the power to appoint a new council for Caprice, potentially replacing the current governor-general with someone more aligned with his vaurphobic ideology. Candidates for the position are already being examined, though Torvald has not yet made any public statements on the matter.

"I'm deeply concerned about what Torvald could do to our community," said Melanie Dorn, mayor of New Sedantis. "His victory shocked us, but here, we're especially worried. The Republic of Biesel compromised its principles by designating Caprice as a colony. My uncle worked hard to make Caprice an inclusive place for all its residents, but I'm not confident Torvald will honor that commitment."

Kevin Wright, a member of the Ve'katak Phalanx stationed on New Sedantis, shared the mayor’s concerns: "Many people, not just Vaurcae, are worried about how Torvald might shake things up across the Republic. But here, we're more concerned. We're on the fringes of Biesel, and not many will be paying attention to what happens to us—but things could go south fast."
