Montyfatcat Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 BYOND Key: Twathead Game ID: one before cff-dlod Player Byond Key/Character name: Isak Vidas Staff involved: None Reason for complaint: During the incident of the AI becoming lawless, the captain had made my roboticist an interim research director to handle the issue. The issue came up when the captain started disregarding the director he had put in charge of handling the AI and instead started making direct threats to the AI, with no intent to change his position. He also sent in an armed team against the AI, totally derailing the progress the director had made with no clear benefit or even logic behind approving the move. Then, after the AI had been destroyed, despite nearly delaminating the crystal in the process, the captain then ordered the director to be arrested for apparently assisting the AI, despite the fact that the director had only appealed to the AI to avoid violence, and offered solutions other than the destruction or relawing of the AI. This all honestly feels as if the player was set on an ending and wasn't willing to work with others in any way. Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? No, I'm still unused to ahelping poor rp and the conversation was moving so fast I was too occupied. Bear Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 (edited) My captain's thought process about why he abandoned having the Interim try to fix the AI as well as ordering the head of security to "handle" the interim were as follows: The interim director was actively undermining my discussion with the AI to see it peacefully relawed or transferred to an AI card. The interim had also made offhanded comments about studying the AI or transferring it to a body which made it paranoid. After being ordered to stop, they became confrontational in the command channel. The interim threw their command level ID in the hall for anyone to pickup which an assistant found and returned to me.. Per regulations I was well within my right as captain to have the interim arrested. Was this an IC ego pissing match? Absolutely. But Vidas is the Captain. He has that right.. The Robotics team showed a fundamental lack of knowledge in remotely re-lawing the AI remotely when asked if they could day anything about it. My character is not a science background and would not know the possibilities thus leaving me no alternative but to forcefully have the AI core entered due to the danger the AI possessed and It's escalation during the round. The majority of my discussion with the AI was on the command channel. A lot of interaction was given. It's easy to see why you did not see this. And I remember seeing @NerdyVampire say they enjoyed the round. If you have any other questions feel free to let me know. Edited December 3, 2021 by Bear Cleaned up the start for clarification
NerdyVampire Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 (edited) Since I was tagged I'll give my opinion: I think both Isak Vidas and Mia played their positions well and argued each their case properly. I can understand the interim directors frustration, she was promoted with the understanding that she was the expert and from the get-go she attempted a diplomatic approach to coax BUDDY out of the core/her into it. A strategy that was ineffectual, as BUDDY had spied on the meeting in the captains office, HoS' office and roboticst lab through the intercom and knew an assault was already underway, making him exceptional paranoid. Aside from that, no AI would be stupid enough to give up their body like that unless they played themselves off as fragile and unwilling I think, but it was worth the attempt and if she could get inside, she could fix him, so all good on that page. I think the big issue here was that Isak realized that the directors strategy wasn't working, but the director had not abandoned it and there was no proper communication between the two before the assault started. Once it did start Mia's future attempts were meaningless and confusing to BUDDY. I think there was a point where Mia should have admitted that the diplomatic approach was going nowhere, but she was in the dark about the assault happening for a long time, or Isak should have told her to call it off directly with something like "It was a good try director, but this is out of my hands. I have to take action", something that is a little kind to the interim who has no formal command training and shouldn't be expected to handle a stressful situation. Instead she was yelled at and eventually threw her ID in frustration. The captain on the other hand is reasonably excused as well, he is very much expected to bring down malfunctioning AI's by any means necessary and the more the assault pressed, the more BUDDY saw fit to threaten the station as a whole to make him back off. The director and captain were undermining each other in the negotiations, with the former thinking she was made interim to lead them, and the latter being the only authority on station actually able to negotiate. I think all this is merely an issue of bad communication between command members and conflicting character personalities. A hard-ass who is doing his duty and growing impatient with resolving the problem, and a roboticist who wasn't trained for the stress and saw her best strategy dismissed without consulting. But I do not think either of you were out of character, or played your characters in a way that was unbelievable or unreasonable. That said, I do think the captain could have shown a little more panic being trapped in the engine monitoring room with a delaminating crystal in front of him and fire on all sides xD Edited December 1, 2021 by NerdyVampire
NerdyVampire Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 5 hours ago, Bear said: And I remember seeing @NerdyVampire say they enjoyed the round. Yes I did, I found it exciting and hoped you did as well. I am sad to see that Montyfatcat did not enjoy the end of it, I am sure you hoped for more of an opportunity to interact and talk with BUDDY than I had time to do with everything happening.
Bear Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 (edited) Good feed back on the panic part, thank you. It is still a very new character so I'm still figuring him out a bit! Additionally I will say that captain is an intensive roll with literally everyone talking to you. Perhaps I could have vocalized a bit more to call off the attempt as suggested (though I thought I had already made myself clear which I'll elaborate on in a sec). My captain's excluding the interim from the preparation from the assault was intentional as he wanted the interim to give it a go though excluding the RD from the start of the assault was not, that was oocly unintentional, my plate was simply full and it was overlooked. It's been a few days since the round so the sequence if events in escalation and build up that followed from BUDDY taking action is but I did think I made myself very clear on the command channel that there were only two routes we could let BUDDY go versus the alternatives that were being suggested which was fix the AI or card them. Not study them or attempt to place them in a body as your interim suggested. To touch on two more points. When the AI began attempting to sabotage the core, my character could no longer in good consciousness let it remain and peace was no longer an option. It was a danger and had already made it clear it was willing to act on this. Your director was only ordered to be handled by my captain after he was informed you left your command level ID. I assume the HoS was pressing negligence. They could likely have been pressing slander as well, I'm not sure, but my interaction with it ended there. Montyfatcat Posted December 6, 2021 Author Posted December 6, 2021 After talking with Bear in DMs, we managed to sort out what went wrong. It was entirely a communication breakdown and an overzealous HoS, and now we've spoken I'm happy to close.
