Diggey Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 (edited) BYOND Key: Diggey Mineson Character Names: Han Song, Keira Pfeifer, ZHP-E-2400, Ka'Akaix Theth K'lax, Ka'Viax Tlili K'lax (deceased) , Layana Oumarou-Bouba, Marlowe Phillips, X-Avier Species you are applying to play: Skrell , Axiori What color do you plan on making your first alien character: A dark brown/green (Seaweed) (around 1B2C00), splotchy Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes, and a couple extra, including food. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've seen these goofy fuckers warble around the station for a long time now, usually less than any other race, only really see fun amounts of them as the odd funky Service worker or during events, but they seem exceedingly charming so I went digging. First I, playing as Keira, decided to learn about what they like, how they think, how they interact with people, the things they enjoy, how they interact with others and so on and so forth. Turns out they are really important so it hurts to see only the odd one or two around, especially during my Timezone, so I decided to put myself up to the task to fill that hole. Now of course comes the interesting part where I actually went into the lore, and I was quite smitten with the way that they handle interpersonal relationships and how they express themselves, and how much interpersonal relations mean to them and how even in hatred they consider it an exchange I find that quite striking and I wanted to actually actually play one. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Good heavens I don't think I'd be done with 10 paragraphs, but I will give some cliffnotes push your tongue against the top of the roof of your mouth and tense your forehead, this odd feeling in the back of your head? Yeah that's how a Skrell feels all the time, and now add in the fact that emotions will have a physiological effect on them. Humor burns, fear swells, you cry tar when you are feeling overworked, if you've been working for 3 hours your second skin itches and cracks and you need some effing water in your system. You have to wear a Tin Foil hat if you want to have a good night's sleep by yourself (and if you do you must be up to something!!). A preference for sweet and Sour food while beeing unable to chew with your hardened gums so most of the good cuisine is out and you prefer menthol flavoured potato mash. It ain't easy beeing Skrell. This is not even to mention the actual mechanical differences include such things as using Lube to slide around the station (no slipping), beeing able to psionically ping and message people, the reliance on water and the preference for having an AC around, dousing yourself in water, beeing highly squishy and beeing easy to hurt (ba dum tish), I guess mechanically for the ID card you also don't have a set but a chosen gender which of course you leave unanswered until you find a soulmate. (I could use the correct starlight terminology but you know what I mean when I say soulmate) and then you can just set it back to neutral at any given point because fuck it who cares. Character Name: Litt'Kaax Xonq-tup Please provide a short backstory for this character: Litt'Kaax was a Skrell born to 3 Qu'Poxii in a Quya on the Jupiter Moon of Europa, all three of them considered themselves to be infertile, a regular assumption to make, but when his parents realised what has happened it was too late to fly into Jargon space to officially integrate them into Jargon society, so they decided to keep their child in Sol. Growing up Litt'Kaax was raised by the submarine crew of the ship where they were born, taking swimming classes in the submarine's airlock and beeing mentored by the Ship's Engineer, their F'ex'Qa, with the other two Skrell of the union beeing the Ship's EVA expert and the last the ship's Head of Security, the human crew in this are also considered Litt'Kaax's mentors but to a lesser extent, due to their casual negligence compared to the rigorous schooling performed by Litt'Kaax's blood family. After reaching only 25 Years of Age Litt'Kaax was sponsored by his Submarine's Captain to be shipped off to the Sol Cognitus University to study Engineering where he, over the course of the following years, adopted a casually masculine aesthetic due to beeing raised in human space, there he took his Doctorate in Engine and Propulsion theory and a second doctorate in Engineering and the Applied Sciences. He finished his education at the Age of 55, incredibly old for a human but just in line with Skrellian standards for a basic education. In the following years he returned to work as a Propulsion specialist and Engineer on his "homeworld" of Europa where he had been assigned to many craft some of which were Idris Incorporated multiengine luxury cruise Submarines. After recent, and during current, Events Litt'Kaax quit his job working for Einstein Engines as a subcontractor for Idris and decided to pursue a career outside of Sol Alliance space as an Engineer in the Biesel Republic What do you like about this character? Well some of the personality aspects of the character do not quite shine through in the Background I have written up but I like him as a cynical and prideful individual, something that will come through in his social interactions with others, high stress, as all my characters are, with a highly neurotic and affected personality, with a perception of human interaction heavily biased by his parents but molded by his time in University, heavily opinionating himself on people, forming grudges or friendships quicker than I hope other skrell will and making active efforts towards putting himself in a social hierarchy. As for my own Roleplaying ability I usually play characters with livid and very active internal workings and driving forces which rarely ever shows well to those around observing them, which works well into playing a Skrell who notably have a harder time displaying their emotional states and intentions to those of other species but are deeply physiologically affected by them, something that I can pour out to my hearts content to other Skrell while keeping it on the downlow to non-Skrell. Something I hope will play very well into my usual playstyle. As for my Ability to Roleplay, some people love it to bits others hate it to bits, so I would say I am very polarising. I am a typo machine but my characters are well played and well acted and I think I can enrich the station with my RP Notes: Litt'Kaax is 63 at Begining of play and a Sol Alliance Citizen, during play he will desperately attempt to be granted Biesel Republic Citizenship and finally, after that, strive for a final Jargon Federation citizenship Name means Little dancer in Norwegian/Nral'Malic because his parents were delighted by their little tadpole Litt'Kax was named in honor of a family friend, a man of norwegian ancestry, their Ship's Doctor, who was the first to break them the news about their child, which, initially, was believed to be a parasitic infection, but later was acknowledged as something far more beautiful. The Submarine captain in question is actually the same as the captain of my other Characters, Marlowe, who finally lost his ship in a rogue Blood Kraken Attack. Litt'Kaax also has a Bachelors in Water and Waste Management, Atmospheric science, Nuclear Physics and an Associates Degree as a Nuclear Powerplant Technician , Nuclear power which is far more common on the Submarines of Europa than Phoron, considering the import costs. Due to the fact that Idris does not provide Engineering services Litt-Kaax applied for a Job with Hephaestus Industries one of the subcontractors of Idris (and a far better paying, and service providing, employer than Nanotrasen) where he has been assigned to the Nanotrasen owned Research Installation NSS Aurora as an Engineer and eventually to the SCCV Horizon as a Propulsion Engine technician I considered having him raised in Jargon Federation territory but enjoyed the idea of beeing a "fish out of Water" more Edited March 4, 2022 by Diggey Fish out of water lul
KingOfThePing Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 (edited) Solarian, submarine-born Skrell aren't something that are a thing to my knowledge. My Skrell knowledge is not 100% up-to-date, so anyone can correct me on that. But even if it is, the application shows no actual knowledge of Skrell lore, considering it entirely dodges the Federation and everything tied to it or anything relating to their culture, actually, except maybe that Skrell are big smart. I also don't believe in your ability to roleplay, at all. To be upfront with you, I know of at least two people you actually make uncomfortable playing along your characters. One of them is me. You also like to be passive-agressive, unable to differentiate IC and OOC and tip-toe around rules. I will not support this application or any other application from you, as it stands right now. Butterrobber202 Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 (edited) Thank you for showing interest in Skrell lore! Before I dive into some questions, I do need to point a few things out. The usage of the English language in this application is of particular low quality. You seem to be suffering from a hyperactive pinkie finger from all the random capitalization of nouns. Additionally, you've made some obvious spelling and grammar errors in places. It's highly recommended to let applications sit for about a day, then you can return and proof-read them. This tactic lets you read your own writing with fresh eyes, so you will catch mistakes easier. Judging from your usage of Norwegian language references and a mention of the Kraken legend, I assume English is not your first language. If this is true, it is always a good idea to have a willing friend look over your writing and correct any obvious errors. Moving on to questions about the application specifically. 2 hours ago, Diggey said: ...all three of them considered themselves to be infertile, a regular assumption to make, but when his parents realised what has happened it was too late to fly into Jargon space to officially integrate them into Jargon society, so they decided to keep their child in Sol. It seems your Skrell was hired by EE, not a big surprise, EE is the dominate corporation within the Alliance. What confuses me is why they worked on Idris Incorporated submarines. Is this a tie-in of some kind? Or are you just stating it as a, "Ah, yes, I did do this." Additionally, EE has a notably sour relationship with the corporations of the SCC. Why would Idris hire an Einstein over an Hephaestus contractor? What recent events caused Litt'Kaax to move to Biesel specifically? 2 hours ago, Diggey said: ...as all my characters are, with a highly neurotic and affected personality, with a perception of human interaction heavily biased by his parents but molded by his time in University, heavily opinionating himself on people, forming grudges or friendships quicker than I hope other skrell will and making active efforts towards putting himself in a social hierarchy. This section is somewhat hard to follow, but I get the feeling you intend to have your character be a Skrell, but act like a human. This is typically a "no-no" when it comes to species whitelists, as playing Human+ is very against the setting we have here. Additionally, as you yourself mention, you intend to play this Skrell like all the rest of your characters. If this is the case, why have you bothered to apply for a Skrell whitelist if you do not plan to use their lore? 2 hours ago, Diggey said: Litt'Kaax is 63 at Begining of play and a Sol Alliance Citizen, during play he will desperately attempt to be granted Biesel Republic Citizenship and finally, after that, strive for a final Jargon Federation citizenship Why are they seeking Bieselitte citizenship? Is Litt-Kaax a listener or a receiver? 2. What are their opinions on the Jargon Federation? 3. How do they feel about Synthetics? 4. What are their thoughts on the recent events within the Solarian Wildlands, specifically the actions of ex-Admiral Beauchamp? Edited March 4, 2022 by Butterrobber202

On the main page, its stated Skrell both lay and fertilize eggs, which are carried around in the headtails to keep them damp. I was under the impression that Sexual intercourse was a recreational activity that involved the headtails and that much like a reptile the eggs are not lain until fertilized So that the egg was fertilized but not noticed until reaching a stage of maturity where the Aqi’qa would take place, after laying, a Stage of developement which would be too far along in the lifecycle to be sent off to a different quadrant of space as this is considered a part of their Schooling, and at this point they would already be considered a Citizen if and when and where it would take place. I was falsely under this impression, obviously. 11 minutes ago, Butterrobber202 said: Skrell reach biological maturity around the age of 30. Their parents doing this would be the same as sending off a middle schooler off to University. I can ammend this, the exact age where they would be sponsored is not as important as the timeline of events I was under the impression that with the reaching of physical maturity one would already be in a higher institute of learning due to the strict upbringing of the Skrell Quote Untuk’mak usually occurs between 10-30 years of age. I was imagining that a completed Untuk'mak at age 25 would be reasonable. Ya know? And that the Human who does not know about the specific culture would offer them a Trip to the bright place in the stars as soon as the parents "say they are ready" and of course the Bright (or dark in this case) eyed Skrell agreeing hungrily for a chance to get into university as quickly as possible. 11 minutes ago, Butterrobber202 said: This block of text provokes a whole gaggle of questions. Is this a tie-in of some kind? Or are you just stating it as a, "Ah, yes, I did do this." Additionally, EE has a notably sour relationship with the corporations of the SCC. Why would Idris hire an Einstein over an Hephaestus contractor? It is mentioned explicity on the Europa Lorepage that Idris runs the second most profitable industry on Europa, which is tourism. Idris does not provide Engineering services, as such it is safe to assume Idris hires out other companies to do their Engineering work, like the NSS Aurora, which is run by Nanotrasen, hires out other companies to do their engineering. If idris would not hire EE on Europa then it is safe to assume I can skip this step in the background and just have him be a longtime Haephestus employee, which would certainly make things easier for them, especially since EE is kind of reviled, so it would be easier to be trusted. This was an intentional roablock set to antagonize the character against Heads of Staff, to make things more interesting Roleplay wise. 11 minutes ago, Butterrobber202 said: What recent events caused Litt'Kaax to move to Biesel specifically? Most noticably Einstein Engines built a big ol' jumpgate in Sol, and most noticably a bunch of Skrell died, causing an interaction with a Jargon Federation Cruiser was it? Cruiser I think. Litt'Kaax is afraid this will cause hostility towards Skrell and may make their Home system Hostile towards them and their kind. (even if this fear is unfounded, Skrell are longterm thinkers, short term this is obviously an unreasonable thought, but considering how it "could play out" they need to leave NOW) 11 minutes ago, Butterrobber202 said: This section is somewhat hard to follow, but I get the feeling you intend to have your character be a Skrell, but act like a human. That was not the impression I wanted to give at all, I specifically wanted to point out their strongly biased view on interpersonal relations and their focus on Hierarchy which is very unhuman to me. How their parents strongly molded their view of the importance of others in the actualisation of the self and how they suffer for having a lack of other Skrell to compare themselves to and to try to connect with humans, not be a Human, their end goal is Jargon Citizenship afterall, the quest for Skrelldom is part of them and to abandon that for whatever it is that humans represent wouldn't make sense I even mentioned how he will do skrell things quicker than other Skrell because he wants to skrell harder than non skrell (sometimes falsly so in an attempt to fit in more with this "new" society he is trying to integrate into) I know my english is not that good but that is explicitly stated. I do not get where you get "This one will be like my others" I said "my playstyle works well for how Skrell are" 11 minutes ago, Butterrobber202 said: Why are they seeking Bieselitte citizenship? Why would they seek Jargon citizenship? Additionally, on the Guide to Citizenship, Sol does not allow dual citizenships with Biesel. Does your Skrell plan to renounce their Solarian citizenship? They do plan to renounce their Sol citizenship They plan to Jump ship to Biesel, then jump ship to Jargon. They are afraid of what Sol will do and how that in turn will reflect on them as a longtime EE employee and Citizen They are actively trying to cut ties with humanity 11 minutes ago, Butterrobber202 said: How in the world did the doctor mistake Skrell laying eggs as a parasitic infection? Again a misconception about how fertilisation works and at what point in the lifecycle the egg is laid. 11 minutes ago, Butterrobber202 said: "...Hephaestus Industries one of the subcontractors of Idris..." Are you saying Idris is Hephaestus's parent corporation here? Because that is untrue. I will assume you trying to say that Idris contracts from Hephaestus, but that doesn't really explain why Idris is mentioned here at all. Additionally, why is the SCC putting an ex-EE engineer on their flagship project? Sub-Contract does not mean Daughter firm. This is literally a google search away Sub-Contractors are not part of the same company I do not know why you brought this up It is literally the concept behind the SCC Quote A subcontractor is an individual or (in many cases) a business that signs a contract to perform part or all of the obligations of another's contract. A subcontractor (or sub-contractor) is a company or person whom a general contractor, prime contractor or main contractor hires to perform a specific task as part of an overall project and normally pays for services provided to the project. While subcontracting often occurs in building works and in civil engineering, the range of opportunities for subcontractor is much wider and it is possible that the greatest number of subcontractors now operate in the information technology and information sectors of the economy. One hires subcontractors either to reduce costs or to mitigate project risks. In employing subcontractors, the general contractor hopes to receive the same or better service than the general contractor could have provided by itself, at lower overall risk. 11 minutes ago, Butterrobber202 said: Additionally, why is the SCC putting an ex-EE engineer on their flagship project? Qualifications. 11 minutes ago, Butterrobber202 said: 1. Is Litt-Kaax a listener or a receiver? Receiver, though their time on Europa has greatly influenced their perception of the Wake, where their parents and guardians were more devoutly religious and scientific the long lapses of time between Underwater settlements have created an environment of a wake consigned to a single Vessel, with all participating beeing those they grew up with, occasionally feeling glimpses and pings of those around the ship as it passes underwater life, connecting more to the general wake of the Moon than the wake of specific communities Whereas his upbringers consider themselves observants of the Qeblak Litt'Kaax considers themselves to be more in tune with the spiritual aspects of the faith, spending most of their formative years under the ice without direct view of the stars, their connection to the spiritual is less literal and scientific and more a nightly experience of other beeings drifting past as they take their hiatus from work. They are well learned in the constallations and took a lot of their time at the University, suspended in space, looking out at the stars, but after reading up on them they consider themselves to be more of a observer of Weishii than a strict follower of their ubringers faith, a decision they have come to after personal deliberation and research. I didn't know where to put this in the original application since it specifies the "short" backstory and I already spent too much time on the conception rather than the person. 11 minutes ago, Butterrobber202 said: 2. What are their opinions on the Jargon Federation? Considering they wanna jump ship? Higher than that of the Sol Alliance that's for sure. Litt'Kaax is not a huge fan of governmental censorship and the ostracisation of those who have not accomplished much, but from birth held their mentors in high regard, and more importantly held excellence and achievement in high regard, it was their desire to go to university and follow in the footsteps of their primary mentor and their desire primarily to seek not only a basic graduation but a complete understanding of their field as a Submarine technician before returning to the position. This is not just a pride thing, this is a self imposed expectation of excellency that is deeply ingrained in their upbringing and ideals. Spoiler also Litt'Kaax enjoys watch competetive swimming. The idea that one day they may move into Jargon Federation space and take up a position of some amount of respect fills them with a warm swelling feeling that is hard to describe. But they wouldn't exactly call out any of their most recent actions as completely unreasonable. Which is in contrast with their solarian contemporaries. As a matter of fact they are fleeing their "country" because they do not disagree 11 minutes ago, Butterrobber202 said: 3. How do they feel about Synthetics? Litt'Kaax read about Glorsh-Omega, they did not experience it, their Upbringers did not experience it. What is important is that they do not have souls and should not be considered to have such, no one will argue with this Spoiler except for some IPCs themselves which can safely be ignored as malfunctioning. They are tools and they should be treated as such. And of course, as with anyone reasonable, they should not be given full authority over anything a supervisor can not also handle. A Supervisor with a big red "Turn off -> Delete -> Cleanse memory -> file as defunct -> Alert authorities" button 11 minutes ago, Butterrobber202 said: 4. What are their thoughts on the recent events within the Solarian Wildlands, specifically the actions of ex-Admiral Beauchamp? god Beauchamp, he is a bit of a joke with a friend of mine. like Jesus if this is happening just Galactic north of Sol then you better jump ship immediatly Beating innocents, killing millions, Xenophobia, corrupting others to follow in their suit, war, hindrance of progress Like "What are their thoughts" I can give you a hundred answers, based on faith and Acceptance/tolerance, based on personal interest as a Skrell in human space, based on OOC ethics that subtly influence my IC views What do they think? Beauchamp is a Pirate, but like, in an uncool way. And does not represent humanity. BUT. He does represent the Sol Alliance a whole lot more than he does represent Biesel, he attacked Biesel, so Biesel is a safe haven from him and his associates.

Diggey Posted March 5, 2022 Author Posted March 5, 2022 I have been informed by a friend that Einstein Engines has a lot more dirt on them than I originally believed, so much so that it is concerning to me how they operate I can make a lot of adjustments to the character, but the easiest ones would be beeing Haephestus initially and the parents making a concious decision to raise their child outside of the Jargon Federation and Litt'Kaax wanting to return to his grandmother nation out of a sense of obligation and belonging due to the stark difference human culture places on merit over how the Jargon Federation does. Yes, even in this capitalism hellscape. You just don't get the right acknowledgement, they see money as worth more than clout you see, money is an inheritable thing though, merit is not.

To be sure it left me very hurt and worried, worried for the fact that I have left such a bad impression. For example I am passive-aggressive and more importantly detached/heedless in the way I talk OOcly this is a fact about me and it is good that you see this as a point of contention, you are valid in bringing this up as a negative point, especially if it annoys you personally when working with me. But The statement that I flatout am incapable of Differentiating IC and OOC is a rather crass observation, because it is not specified "at times" which to me seems to imply that at any point you took notice of me that I was personally affected IC by OOC issues, which is a point I personally take great care to not let flow into my roleplay. (exceptions include avoiding talking to people who do not enjoy my characters because I want them to have a fun round me in or excluded) The Tip-toeing around rules specifically has me greatly worried because I am not aware of any rules I am circumnavigating, I was under the impression I was behaving normally and adjusting accordingly if an issue accured, even taking great steps to reconcile with people I may have hurt in the breaking of rules. I am not trying to intentionally break any rules and If I am doing so please inform me. And lasty I will reiterate Putting this at the front of my application rather than waiting a day greatly poisons the water.
