BYOND Key: Loorey

Character Names: Jennavia Levine (XO), Casey Wildkins (OM), Inaya Hall (CMO), Serenity Anderson (Engineer), Keira Yamamoto (Idris CorpRep), Sophie (AI), MIA (Engi- and Mediborg)

Species you are applying to play: Vaurca

What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Hex #12421E (Light Green-ish color that pretty much looks like Vetju's color)

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Of course.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question.

Why do you wish to play this specific race:

As my primary reason, honestly, I just want to roleplay as something entirely different and not 'just' a Human, it's much more exciting to play entirely different species with different mechanics. Vaurcae are very interesting to me, being one of the oldest surviving civilizations yet one of the most discriminated against by Humans within the Spur, such advanced technologies as teaching their young vaurcae in Virtual Reality where they can prepare them perfectly for their assigned tasks - yet to Humans they just look like some primitive and underdeveloped insects.

Secondary reason why I want to play the Species, something other people have also told me, it's just way more fun the more Vaurca are playing at a single time - I would assume so because, the larger amounts of vaurca play, especially if they are from a variety of different Hives and Broods, the more likely it is to see some passive and natural conflict in the form talking and constant bickering/mocking or other very interesting interactions!

It'd also be very interesting to me to play a Ta and provide other Vaurcae with guidance, seeing as I have a command whitelist.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

I would say the biggest part in terms of roleplay here is their very different mindset, while Humans (and their Parents, of course) have a huge influence on their childhood, have to put thought into what they want to be and heavily influence their education by themselves the young vaurca in the different hives are bred for specific purposes, where they are bred at specific locations and properly trained within colourful Virtual Reality worlds preparing them for their purpose. Putting smells into the foreground since they are highly sensitive to those - they are a vital part of their communication, whereas humans usually just connect simple emotions with different contrasts of smells, vaurca are able to identify others by their pheromones, their smell being even so sensitive that they could tell the difference of natural minerals just by how they smell.

Another major difference is that within a Hive, the vaurca are purposely spread into Types as they are bred - there's major differences between, say, Workers, the Ka - which highly prioritize their work for the Hive and have a biology which allows them to travel through and work in harsh conditions for a much longer time while they heavily fear and avoid any violence leaving that to their Warriors, the Za - which may not be as stable in harsh conditions but are very efficient in combat, as their biology (with having weaponry physically attached to their bodies, for example) pretty much restricts them to that purpose.

Relations between two Vaurca also heavily differ from relations between two Humans. Where Humans, even from conflicting worlds, can still be very close to one and another and value each other as friends, Vaurcae are very loyal to their Queen's will - meaning, if the relations between two hives are bad, they will collide and come in conflict with the Vaurcae from another Hive more.

Character Name: Ka'Akaix'Zhula K'lax (K'lax Hive, Vetju Brood - Shaft Miner)

Please provide a short backstory for this character:

Being bred in the Human year 2457 and calling Tret in the Uueoa-Esa System of the Badlands their home, Zhula has been trained under harsh conditions within Virtual Reality where failure was already predetermined to make them what they are now - an efficient miner and gatherer for their pragmatic Iron Queen. Zhula is an unbound Ka within the K'laxian Hive under Iron Queen Vetju's Brood, serving alongside Unathi of the Izweski Nation. Possessing one of the most important pieces of technology within the Brood, a K'laxian language processor augment to understand and communicate in the language of Sinta'Unathi, Zhula has primarily been working around young Unathi miners and gatherers which are held to a higher standard, the view of Zhula in the eyes of those Unathi was usually pretty frowned upon with the Unathi, comments like 'Working alongside such an insect? A shame for us.' not being unusual - though they were very much aware of Zhula's capabilities, due to a much better and more specialized training within VR than the young Unathi have ever experienced and of course highly sensitive smell to quickly and efficiently search for specific materials. The young Unathi around Zhula have usually sneakily left them in charge of mining expeditions, though keeping the thought behind it hidden with reasonings such as 'If one has to endanger themselves, it will be you before us.' as to not embarass themselves - leading to much more successful expeditions with Zhula finding even the most ominous hiding spots and ways towards minerals.

Primarily wanting to avoid combat and prove themselves to their hive, Zhula quickly realized the usefulness of the Unathi for them - while they were more of a sneaky gatherer, wanting to experience highest efficiency in mineral gathering, the young Unathi wanted to be seen as strong, fearless warriors, when they encountered Combat, Zhula usually scoured across the sides leaving the Unathi to deal with the threats while gathering and searching for points of interest leading in a mutual success and higher appreciation and tolerance from the Unathi expedition members, but far away of any friendship between them.

The constant successes and high-yields with the minimal losses in their expeditions have caused Hephaestus to become interesting, as they are constantly in search for such efficient and cheap labour, providing less rights, less payment for the much more efficient work of Vaurcae in comparison with Humans. This has lead to Zhula's transfer to the Horizon, with Hephaestus thinking they could greatly use their mining skills in the search of Phoron thus strengthening their negotiational foundation within the chainlink and using this stronger foundation for the growth of their power.

What do you like about this character?

Zhula seems like a very interesting and fun character for me to play next to the other character's on the Horizon - working in a mutual use relationship together with Unathi (pretty much a 'I use you for my purpose, and thus you can use me for yours.') and experiencing the Unathi's discrimination pretty much the entirety of their work-life, the Horizon may bring a lot of interesting change and interactions for them. Seeing as there are a lot of tolerant and nice people as opposed to just the one's discriminating Vaurcae, it will be a big turn in their life.

Bringing their stories among the human folk and creating the possible for unique and fun roleplay atmosphere's with this character also seems very fun to me, seeing as with their life they have a lot to tell, a lot to be ashamed of (like the Unathi using them) but also a lot to be proud of.

Lastly, I think putting a bit of variety around every department makes roleplay way more fun for everyone involved. Pretty much every department, except operations, has their Vaurca players - I'd like to bring change to that!

How would you rate your role-playing ability?

Judging from the feedback I get from other players I interact with, my characters are liked by a lot of people, I also try to put variety to them - while my Executive Officer who worked her entire life within Human Resource's is polite and always friendly, my Operations Manager is a rugged Hephaestus employee. This also largely depends on how much sleep I had and how much motivation I have, though I only really play when I'm motivated to do so and want to interact with people around - sometimes, when a bit tired and exhausted I keep that contained within my own department though.

Seeing as I also passed my Command Trial with no complications and received my Command Whitelist, I'd rate myself as a good roleplayer, though not always a perfect one. I'd say easily around a 8/10.

Notes:

Thanks a lot for reading through this.

Easy +1 for me, Loorey has been a joy to RP with as crew/head staff and antag, I don't have any doubt they would be able to play a vaurca properly and I'm interested to interact with this character, since I main mining too

Loorey is a great player, and I encouraged them to make this application. I've played with their OM more than once, and I've chosen to by blatantly biased due to the tempting prospect of having another Vetju player on the Horizon.

My only encounters with Loorey is every single round because I keep running into their Operations manager character. +1 from me though, great person, great characters.
