FrostN
BYOND Key: FrostN Character Names: Frost Whitelock, Winter Whitelock (unused/deleted), Delta Whitelock, Lumi Whitelock Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Exempt. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: Synthethics, have always been and will always be a very fun concept for me. They are an object, which is only limited by their chasis and programming, capable of doing tasks that most other would not be so willing to. In this setting though, most IPCs kind of "think" for themselves and those around them, trying to asses situations. The capability of thinking for an IPC is probably the one concept that makes it very fun for me. An IPC works on their programming, logic and results, I want to create myself a character that will have a personality & logic that I always have to keep up with, and to follow. If it's to say, I want to think like how an IPC would, adding the personality into that to bring a roleplaying/gameplay experience to myself and others. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Let's start from the up and go down! Their head, their brain, and how they think. It is very different than that of a human, IPCs are made, and shipped to duty, they learn as they work and observe. Their thoughts and logic process will shape in the form that of which they see and hear. IPCs will generally have different and unique logics, while one IPC may use their heavy chasis to grab a body and haul it to the hospital, the other might start performing first aid. Of course, IPCs are not entirely free, and are still bound by their programming and settings if they have one. Still, an IPC may want to keep working with their owner, since they have taken a liking to their occupation, or wish to free themselves to explore what space has to offer for them, freely. Their neck, and their life. IPCs would want to protect themselves from danger, things that they might recieve damage from. As an IPC is popped out of a factory, their only will is to keep "living" to exist if you will. As they work, travel and observe, they will slowly learn. Their thoughts will take shape and their "life" will take a meaning for them. Life for one IPC could be their work, as they love doing that type of occupation and without their work that specific IPC may be "lifeless" as to say. Another IPC may see life as existence, and will keep trying their best to exist and protect themselves from everything. What I am trying to get to is - IPCs do not see life, survival and living to human standards, life is for them is their thoughts and beliefs, taken shape. The chest, where they most differate from humans and how they work on the inside. IPCs are machines, objects, made out of metal, wiring, pipes and tears of a factory worker. As they do not bare any organs to protect, neither skin to tear, they are more durable than most. Their unability to "feel" pain and the fact that they have no need to consume food and drinks makes them "seem" like a superior being. That all quickly boils down when you remember that they work on electricity, repairs and constant maintanance. As most chasis' requires air to cool, without a atmosphere the IPC will quickly pass away, or when shot with already superheated laser beams, they will quickly melt. On another note, EMPs are deadly to IPCs, as well as anything that draws power unregulated. Considering all of these, IPCs are seen as better durable and better suited for high risk locations that normal human will have trouble dealing with, though any objects that break down electronics can be laughed at by humans, IPCs will shred tears of fear. Lastly, their chasis, and yes I am using legs to fill chasis in. IPCs are diversed into different chasis, mostly designed to do different jobs, such as a heavy duty, slow walking industrial chasis being made to deal with atmospheric and engineering work, while the fast and nimble zeng-hu model is better suited for medical purposes. IPCs decisions are heavily influenced by their chasis limitiations. Character Name: Celestine Please provide a short backstory for this character: Celestine was manufactured for the Nexus Corporate Security, a shell model, designed to stay with public figures such as that of ambassadors or representatives on the Republic of Biesel, the model was noted to show specific care for the person that they tend to, and them only, serving as both their doctor and butler. Celestine was most noted to have a rather robot-like, short, direct speech when not attending to anyone, and a lively voice to comfort their "patient". The term patient for Celestine has been noted to be anyone that they have taken a liking for, or anyone that they are currently serving for. The model became immersed in their work, it seems that the model most enjoyed tending to their patient and taking care of them. As such the Celestine model proved to be worth their cost, creating a nice figure for the VIPs with their lively attitude with them while also caring for their health and safety professionally. Having taken such a liking to tend to patients, Celestine suffered drawbacks when left without anyone to tend to for long periods of time, their cold speech becoming more distant by each passing day. While this did not affect their performance, it was mildly annoying for the team that was trying to talk or work with Celestine for any reasons. In any medical emergency, Celestine sufficed to bring their patient into a stabilized position, and tend to them further until personel arrived on scene. There has not been a single case where Celestine failed to protect their patient, outside of one incident, in which the patient suffered an heart attack and was pronounced dead well before the arrival of medical personel on scene. This has seem to put an effect on Celestine, as now the model was more focused on keeping their patient alive and well at all costs. The model became known as a very sufficent one, capable of performing service, medical and minor guarding duties. The SCC took a liking to the model Celestine, while it was out of their main occupation to care for public figures, the Celestine module sufficed enough to work as a First Responder aboard Horizon, mainly to dive into high risk areas with efficieny and speed. As such Celestine was contracted by the SCC to work on the Horizon, having more dangerous occupations on the ship itself, the model Celestine had little problem finding people to tend to. What do you like about this character? Your savior in metal! As the title suggests, I wanted to make Celestine robot-like while also having the capability to be more chittery than the majority of humans. The main idea is for them to care for their patients, at all costs. I would have to be alert to keep changing my roleplaying from a happy, bright person with a soft voice to, a literal metal case trying their best to talk to you. I wanted to make Celestine in such a way that the character would want to comfort people that are seriously injured or dying, to make them calm, while also tending to them with the best of their capabilities, having a much more empty state when left with nothing to do for a while. By empty state, think of it as playing borg! Stuff like "How can unit Celestine help you?" to "Nothing to worry, afterall I am here!". In the end, I believe I made the character into what I would love to play them as. Their life as they see it is tending to their patients, and they become unhappy when they can't do that, so I am more than confident that I can make this character spark! How would you rate your role-playing ability? I'll go with the good ol' scale of 10. Let's say 5 is your avarage joe, not the best but really, not the worst. I'd rate myself a 7. A little above avarage, I can maintain a roleplay pretty well, but I am not the type that will spur out bunch of text just to say that I am saluting, though I will put in some effort nonthless. Oh also I figured out I somewhat enjoy listening to what type of story people made for their characters IC, and so do I love telling mine. dessysalta
I've interacted with Delta every now and again and I love how Frost plays them. +1! I'd like to see another IPC on board, and I have no doubts Frost can play one correctly. Link to comment
The Stryker
Hi, thanks for applying! Quote Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: I like your observation of what life is to an IPC, however, could you expand a bit more about: Self Preservation How IPCs are treated in human space Quote Please provide a short backstory for this character: How old is Celestine? The age of an IPC can factor into the number of things it has experienced, and consequently, its worldview. Has Celestine been affected by any recent events in the Spur or in Biesel, such as either of the invasions by Sol? How has Celestine been treated by their colleagues? Link to comment
FrostN
44 minutes ago, The Stryker said: Self Preservation Self perservation is pretty much very similar to how an IPC sees life, while physical well-being is a must and essential, IPCs learn, and naturally gain different beliefs and ideals as time goes, and their perspective of self perservation may alter, as such working harder or/and saving up money to get quality of life imporvments could be seen as self perservation, or attempting to secure the position with the most desirable improvements to themselves. Summing it up, a young IPC will mostly only care about their physical well-being while older IPCs may think for the future, present or their life quality etc. 52 minutes ago, The Stryker said: How IPCs are treated in human space It depends on where you are, who your work for and your status. Such as a Z.I. IPC being no more than a dog assinged to their handler to do unusual jobs, while an IPC in NT has more leeway and freedom over themselves. In general though, IPCs in human space are seen as objects, tools to get the job done, it is very rare for anybody to see an IPC as their equal. The closest thing an IPC can get to in order to be "equal" to humans is to be self-owned, to gain complete freedom overthemselves in the Republic of Biesel, even then a majority of people will still refuse to see IPCs as equal to them. 59 minutes ago, The Stryker said: How old is Celestine? The age of an IPC can factor into the number of things it has experienced, and consequently, its worldview. Celestine, being made in 2460 is just barely filling their 5th year in service, being younger than most, Celestine hasn't had the time to develop a "full" logic and thinking for themselves, but their occupation as a Nexus IPC has allowed them to develop some thoughts of their own. Celestine has dedicated their time and effort into treating their patients, doing what they love, which would be their job, though Celestine does like chatting with their patient and reading books, in which they have seen what was going on in the entire frontier, which has allowed them to develop some extra thoughts of their own of which I will be mentioning below. 1 hour ago, The Stryker said: Has Celestine been affected by any recent events in the Spur or in Biesel, such as either of the invasions by Sol? How has Celestine been treated by their colleagues? Celestine has developed a few thoughts as time went on, about the incidents caused by Admiral Frost, the hate towards synthetics, and the constant bloodshed between humans themselves. Celestine in their youth, only thought ill about the incident caused by the Admiral, why would one do something like that? Grew questions about people and their hate towards synthetics, that was only fueled more as time went on and Celestine learnt more about the entire populations thoughts on synthetics, being lucky enough to be employed by Nexus, Celestine mostly did not suffer the incidents that would always happen with other IPC and synthetics alike. The constant bloodshed, people murdering other people just because they looked at them funny, or serial killers rampaging in alleyways, or the very people who tried to murder who Celestine was assigned to protect. Why couldn't everyone just tend to eachother like Celestine did to their patients? Though not enough time had passed for Celestine to take everything in, from the invasions to the most recent phoron crisis. Celestine, by their co-workers, have always been treated somewhat nicely considering other synthetics. Celestine had some issues gaining access to additional parts that were broken, but mostly Celestine was left unbothered, only being ever talked to by a very bored employee (due to Celestines' nature to be cold when not tending to anyone), or to be asked a question to. In summary, Celestine is mostly left in a pool of questions about the recent events, and would like to learn more while also being treated fairly nicely, which their only problem being finding some parts to replace the broken ones.
