SCCV Quark - new xenoarch shuttle - feedback thread

Feedback for this PR:

https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/20127

PR description from github:

Quote

changes:

  • rscadd: "Adds SCCV Quark, new shuttle for xenoarch/science, on Horizon."
  • rscadd: "Small remap of the aux hangar on Horizon, adding some expedition supplies there."

reasoning and explanation:

  • The idea is that xenoarchs/science use this if they want to go on a solo adventure for whatever reason (and die to random simplemobs), without stealing the intrepid (that could be used to go to the odyssey scenario site).
  • Xenoarchs would still be allowed to use the intrepid, if it's not used for odyssey or whatever and they want to organize a bigger expedition with more crew (or at least I hope so, I don't make the rules).
  • It's a small shuttle, but it has more than enough seating and some cargo space. I think, at least, it is fine for a xenoarch or two and a few passengers.
  • We need a xenoarch/science shuttle like yesterday, and no one's really shown any interest in mapping it in the past few months, so I made this.
  • If anyone has a different idea and wants to map their own shuttle, it's fine ofc. This is just my PR, anyone is free to open their own, and the best shuttle will be merged

General feedback on my end is that this should definitely be added, one way or another. Research does need its own shuttle to 'free up' the Intrepid, seeing as Intrepid will primarily be used for Odyssey. If the Canary was more suited for that purpose, the Canary would've been used - as it stands, the Canary isn't good for most science jobs, and as such the Quark is needed.

I have a couple points & questions myself:

- Is the Quark going to stay as a name? I personally don't like it (also because it sounds REALLY similar to Spark), but it's fine enough.

- What's going to happen to exploration weaponry? Will it be split between the Intrepid and the Quark?

- Who is going to be permitted to fly it? Will it just be the Xenoarchaeologist and Research Director? Or will there be an opening for more science characters to get flying permission?

Overall, though, I adore this shuttle and look forward to seeing it fly and to be on it myself!

I know this isn’t a huge issue but adding the shuttle here leaves no room for visiting shuttles to land, right? All visiting ships would be connecting at the 3rd deck docking arms? Not a huge issue I suppose but there’s no piping up to the 3rd deck arms for refueling or anything like that, not that all shuttles are standardized for those ports anyway. I suppose if you really wanted to use the hangar you could move a ship out.

Honestly with the Leviathan gone and that wide open room in maint near research on deck 2 it would be neat to have a dedicated research dock which would prevent potentially dangerous anomalies from entering the public hangar areas at all. Not saying that what you’ve got here is lacking in anyway, just spitballing.

I'd argue that this can only be a good thing, as it means we can finally get rid of that hideous immersion-breaking Canary-wall since the aux hangar is no longer 'visitor access'.

I like the name "Quark". I think it's fine, it sounds science-y, and the similarity to "Spark" is intentional, cause they're both small shuttles used for exploration. With naming you can never make everyone happy, but also people get used to it quickly, so it's kinda whatever.

Expedition weaponry will probably be moved outside of the Intrepid, so it could be brought to either the Intrepid or Quark if anyone wants it.

Dunno who will be able to use it, I don't really make these rules. But I doubt there will be any change from current rules.

The hangar was unused/broken for a long time now, and currently we don't have any offship shuttles that could even use that hangar. Also the burglar shuttle can use top deck docking ports.

I hope this is up for review, allowing for more Science characters to more independently do field research.

Love this idea a lot. The main issue here would probably be the loss of a lot of maintenance space, though? And also, it would break a little bit of the standard of all the current shuttles being on the first deck - the dedicated hangar deck.
