[Any OOC Infomation will be hidden. If you have any OOC questions, please feel free to ask elsewhere and I will try and update this post so anyone can find the answer. All players can reply to this thread, but replies must be purely IC - treat this as an IC thread on the relay!]

Spoiler

A quick OOC summary for those short on time:

  • The Horizon will only spend days at a time in the Sea itself due to the danger.
  • The Sea is separated into two region. “Lemurian Sea Outer” which represents the peripheries of the Sea, where the fog is patchy and travel safer, and “Lemurian Sea Inner” where the full effects of the Sea are in effect. The inner region will only be used with Admin oversight for rare rounds to help maintain the mysterious and anomalous nature of the Sea.
  • The remaining time on the mission will be spent in Light’s Edge gathering intel.
  • Clues will be everywhere. Gather them, share them, inform command and the Section Director. Use all the tools available! The IC sister thread to this this, persistent notice boards, the relay… and good old-fashioned IC talk of course.
  • Supply is inconsistent. Command will have access to a meta budget – tracked in this thread – to purchase supplies, buy information, bribe competitors – whatever they desire.

Horizon,

As you prepare to arrive in Al Maqdisi, it has come time for a more through and in depth brief of Operation Deep Dive. As you know, the Chainlink hopes to follow up several leads indicating a phoron source within the Lemurian Sea. As you may also be aware, the Lemurian Sea is perhaps the one of the most dangerous sector of space in the Orion Spur.

Be reassured that the Central Command would not approve of this mission if a minimum level of safety could not be guareenteed, nor would they do so if they were not reasonably certain of a presence of a phoron source. In short, these pieces of infomation as as follows:

  • BSSB assets have confirmed the presense of an illegal "purple market" of Phoron within the Republic of Biesel, with strong certainty of it's presence throughout human space. Over a dozen shipments have been traced, originating from within Light's Edge, but a recon mission indicated the true source was within the Sea.
  • The recent Nralakk-Conglomerate Agreement between the Second Nralakk Federation and the SCC allowed the sharing of infomation, which included the presence of "havens" within the Sea (more infomation below.)
  • The Republic of Assunzione and the Assunzione Expeditionary Corps have backed up the infomation provided by the Federation.
  • The movement of other state and corporate actors towards the Sea - often illegally and covertly - confirms that the SCC is not alone in this revelation.

Havens

The AEC and the Federation have independently confirmed the exsistant of "havens" or "islands" withing the Lemurian Sea, small pockets no larger than a star system where the fog does not penetrate. With accurate chart and extensive preparation, a straight-line warp jump to some of these pockets can be performed with some degree of safety, and with the help of AI, be reversed to leave the Sea, assuming the ship does not leave the haven.

This is still fraught with risks. It is unknown how stable such havens are, or the movement of stellar bodies in the fog. Recent, upto date information on safe jumps will need to be acquired to ensure the stability of a haven.

The Horizon will NOT be authorized to move beyond the outer edges of the Sea unless authorized, due to the extreme risk involved. Additionally, the Horizon is only authorized to spend limited times in the Deep Sea to mimimize the risks, especially that posed by ADPI.

Infomation Gathering

The Horizon's primary mission during phase one is to gather infomation regarding the havens - or rather, precise, exact jump co-ordinates. The local spacers and colonists who live along the edge of the Sea and in Light's Edge have a high chance of knowing of the havens, and the correct one may have more specific infomation. The Horizon's crew is expected to use every oppertunity to gather infomation, and Command is authorized to use any means to gather relevant data.

Operational Funding and Supply

During this operation, it is suspected supply will be limited. Due to the danger posed by the Sea, and the increase in pirate activity in Light’s Edge, it is highly likely that beyond a certain distance of Assunzione, Orion provided logistics cannot be guaranteed in a high enough capacity to meet the Horizon’s supply needs.

You will shortly be receiving an extended supplies shipment while in Al Maqdisi, however depending on the length of the operation this may be insufficient. Therefore, command is been provided a total of five million credits (5,000,000电) of operations funding.

This funding is to be used for expenses related to this Operation ONLY. Other uses of this fund will result in punitive action.

Operations related expenses are expected to include the purchase of supplies from independent spacers, alongside payment for services or information, as and when needed.

Command are encouraged to “think outside the box” when it comes to supply also, as relevant materials can be found from other sources.

The “bring a hydroponics tray home” initiative, trailed during the Cresent Expanse arc, is been renewed, if any crew member wishes to earn a small bonus.

Spoiler

We have (or will shortly be) added a warehouse, next to the vault in operations. Alongside this, abstract boxes, labelled "supplies" too.

  • Every day, Horizon uses 2 supply boxes. While inside the Coalition borders, they will be resupplied 1 per day for free too. I will be manually removing them from the warehouse, so may be doing them in batches.
  • The warehouse can store a maximum of 30 supply boxes - 15 days supply.
  • If the Horizon drops below 0 supply boxes in the warehouse, low supply mode will be activated - which you may remember from the CE arc.
  • Supply may be acquired from a variety of sources. Ghost roles may ahelp for a supply box to be spawned to allow them to trade with the Horizon. If any scavenge missions etc. are planned, also ahelp - we can maybe stash some on sites etc.
  • Supplies can also be sold or traded as needed to ghost roles or in events.
  • For ghost roles, supplies should cost 25,000cr per box. Do NOT sell them to the Horizon for much less than this - it will mess with the balance aspect, and I will be unhappy. You are welcome to sell it to the Horizon for more than this an exort them, but please do not meta game knowing how low or high the Horizon may be.
  • The Horizon will be issued a persistant charge card, which tracks the operational budget of 5,000,000 credits.
  • This card is NOT to be used for purchases not realated to the arc. It has been rigged to shout to admins a lot when used, so you have been warned.
  • Antags must ahelp before interacting with the supplies or charge card. We're not against antags targetting them, but we will need to disable persistance for that round so you do not mess with the overall round.
  • If "lost", the card should default to the XO's office, on a random table. Lost only extents to on the Horizon z-level, so be cautious taking it off the Horizon.

Navigation

The Horizon’s first destination has yet to be determined. Chainlink navcharts of this region are lacking in relevant, recent information. Due to its proximity to the Sea, and the increase in pirates, we cannot determine with certainty if any out-of-date locations remain relevant. As noted above, we are relying on the crew to determine points of interest.

Should nothing of use be provided by scheduled transit dates, a predetermined course will be provided. However, we suspect such destinations will be out of date, at best.

Conclusion

Horizon, this mission may either lead to nothing, or a discovery which may change the future of the Spur's politics forever. In this most unstable time, the stability that may be provided by a new phoron find is the dream the Chainlink has for tomorrow - one of continued peace and prosperity for all. Know that you go with the hope from all the peoples of the Spur.

The Horizon will presently be in Al Maqdisi, home of the Republic of Assunzione, where it will take on supplies and crew, allow exsisting crew time for rest and relaxation before the operation and allowing the Horizon to be fully repaired.

No destination has presently been set, however one can be determined if the crew are unable to provide one of their own.

The use of "in and out" single lane warp jumps should prevent the Horizon been lost. It is essential no jump be made in the deep sea except via a verified return vector.

SCC investigators are aware of Ozias Terzis. Much of the book appears at best unverified, and at worse, complete fiction. However it is strongly suspect they have genuine sources amongst their group. Mr Terzis has proven resistant to direct approach and interview, but have been extended a invitation to tour the SCCV Horizon, a lure which is hoped will bring him aboard where he can be subtly questioned by the crew.

Zeng Hu security in the Port are aware of this, and that infomation was passed up the chain to the Section Director. I strongly suspect this is an implicit threat or even mockery - the incident on station #117-B last week shows they have been tracking the Horizon, even with all known infiltrators captured. Crew are to remain suspicious and alert while taking shore leave on Assunzione as much as they would be aboard the Horizon.

The Horizon is not to transport none crew between Port Volturno and the Horizon except in dire life threatning circumstances. The regually scheduled shuttles will be scanned and check. All crew are to carry their IDs at all time, even while off the Horizon.

We have relayed your messages with the SCCV Jotnar. Captain Min-Hee Yeongseon has provided the following astrographical co-ordinates for the system which has been designated "Meropis" by the locals. She would also like to extend her thanks for the (late) supplies.

With the Horizon approaching the Starlight Lounge, a decision will have to be made on it's next destination. This will default to Meropis, unless another destination is given. Be warned, Meropis lies closer to the edge of the Sea.

Content: This one learned a little bit of information about Meropis from somebody at the Starlight Lounge. There is a colony on a desert planet there, supposedly two factions there have broken out into warfare, the 'Loyalists' and the 'Modernists'. She did not hear more then this, but they had said it was an area to avoid, so that is something for everybody to note.

Content: During the expedition to save the Elyran military personnel, I had the chance to ask questions to one of the survivors, one Thaili Ewing , who had some information on what's going on in Meropis.

Apparently, the Outer Eyes themselves are having a civil war with each other. This includes the mass execution of civilian workers and was apparently just horrific in general.

Additionally, she claimed that the Eyes are attempting to incite a war between Elyra and the Empire of Dominia. This is, well, a big claim, but she said that the Eyes are the ones that stole 'The Ghawar'. I have no clue what the Ghawar is personally, I've not been following the news. She was more or less saying that neither Dominia or Elyra was making the inciting actions of late. it was the Outer Eyes.

Finally, she claimed that the Phoron is not coming from the Sea itself. She referenced 'The Other Side'. I couldn't get her to elaborate on what that is.

Keep in mind that all of this information is from someone who was trapped in a cave with monsters for three days. I think there has to be some merit to it, but chances are something might be a bit skewed here.

Perhaps this is related to what she heard at the Lounge, the fighting that is taking place at Meropis.

SUBJECT: Operation Deep Dive, Meropis Mission Results and Conclusions
___________________________________

BODY:

Colleagues, the task we undertook at Meropis following the information and coordinates shared by SCCV Jotnar has been a critical junction in the larger picture of what Operation Deep Dive is, and what we are dealing with as part of it. The Outer Eyes have been a factor shrouded in a great deal of mystery, but our encounters thus far, despite the losses and trauma incurred, have shed a great deal of light on the matter.

As we have learned before, the organization is led by the council of Eight Eyes, with the Provost at their helm. This organization is responsible for the Spur-wide smuggling operation that our intelligence officers tracked the trail of back to the Lemurian Sea, in the first place. They appear diverse in recruitment, likely including all known species within the Spur. The Provost themselves are a Skrell old enough to have studied alongside the current Grand Councillor of the Nralakk Federation. Something in more recent times has led to a fracture in this secret organization, which has created the division between the Loyalists, who carry out the Provost's vision (albeit they still maintain some matter of individual interpretation of what this vision is, as seen by our encounter with the Vengeful Eye) and the Modernists, who stray from the Provost's laid down path (Enlightened Eye, who has now been killed in action, Shadowed Eye, and tentatively Generous Eye).

Given our actions at Meropis, all crew are to assume that any dealings with Modernists are highly likely to fail. Our course of actions at Meropis was undertaken so as to begin an inway with the Loyalist part of the organization and open communication channels that would have otherwise been closed off to us. All crew are to assume that the Loyalist corps of the Outer Eyes are a target that we must negotiate with. This organization has immense funds and equipment. They are not to be underestimated and negotiation will always be the first option. Self-defense is, obviously, not prohibited.

I implore that any further actions that may affect our standing with these groups must be restricted to Captain-level decisions, to be decided by the on-shift Captain or by the shared council of all present command staff. The situation at the Starlight Lounge is highly unideal, and if not for it, we would have had chance of swaying the Generous Eye further to our side, despite the monetary losses incurred. As it stands, our ledger is rather red, as these groups have knowledge of safe routes across the Lemurian Sea that we do not. It is highly advised for all crew to be on the lookout for any information sources in that regard.

With the Enlightened Eye killed in action, Seven Eyes remain. The modernists have less Eyes at the helm than the loyalists, but we mustn't be complacent just because we cut off one head of this hydra. We are navigating a highly volatile situation and what we already know about who stands where MAY change. We must maintain caution when dealing with these groups and always remember to prioritize the operation's interests, the Conglomerate's interests, and the safety of the crew.

To our security team: please note that we have a positronic brain as well as a living Tajara in our custody, both members of the Enlightened Eye's retinue. The former has already provided valuable information that made it into this message. Keep the latter secure and question them when appropriate on what they know. I would also like to suggest using them as a bargaining token with the Loyalists should we encounter them sooner than later.

Any further questions are welcome on this board, in person during shifts, or via direct messages to @nk.bijou04.ntnet

Captain Min-Hee Yeongseon of the SCCV Jotnar has provided rendezvous co-ordinates at a system they have designated "Sandbox" that they found earlier in their mission. The Horizon is to move there, and join up with the Jotnar, where the next move can be planned.

This data regarding infighting amongst the Eyes has helped explain a number of unanswered questions our own investigation has raised. We believe your choice to align against the Modernists was a reasonable one. If the Loyalists can be negotiated with, command is authorised to do so. The Chainlink may be able to provide amnesty and refuge within Tau Ceti in exchange for infomation leading to our ultimate prize, the phoron source. Your primary goal should be to identify a safe route of ingress into the Sea - the Odin is eager to see results, and an expedition, however short, into the Sea would help silence any detractors to this operation.

SUBJECT: Operation Deep Dive, Contact with PRASV S'rendarr's Light
___________________________________

BODY:

Contact was made with the PRASV S'rendarr's Light earlier today during a salvage mission on an asteroid station. This ship is part of the People's Kosmonautical Survey Corps, the exploration side of the PRA's Orbital Navy. We assisted in clearing out the station, which was infested with Greimorians, and split the supply crates. They received 1, we got the other 6. Part of this split was a promise that if the Horizon meets the PRASV S'rendarr's Light, we give them access to the Service department for R&R since they've been slugging it out here for a bit.

POLITICS IS MEANINGLESS WITH THE PKSC. They are a PRA organization. They are technically a uniformed service. However, they are also a Search and Rescue and exploration corps. They didn't sign up for a war. Leave politics at the door with the PKSC.

Part of this meeting, a high-ranking Outer Eyes agent was mentioned. Haldaraasi Ron'tul-Samdynh Darrkarir. They are a female M'sai (white, silver, cream colored fur) who is about average height. As the name suggests, she's from Ron'tul, so expect a Nothern Ras'nrr accent. Could be Hadiist, Al'mariist. It's messy in Northern Ras'nrr. Either way, the PKSC are on the look-out for this Tajara and would be in our debt if we shared any info we discover. This one is all for assisting them. We don't need enemies out here.

If you have more questions ask away. We were cut short by time, but this is a good bit of info. We know the PKSC is operating out here and that there's a high-ranking Tajara in the Outer Eyes.

Cheers, and Ketvo Ane.

SUBJECT: Operation Deep Dive, Contact with Turncoat Outer Eyes Vessel
___________________________________

BODY:

During a shift today, Hippolyte Carnaro and other crew responded to a distress signal from a nearby vessel, the ICV We support You!. This vessel would soon be discovered as a turncoat Outer Eyes ship. Numerous supplies were recovered, and relations were strengthened with the All-Xanu military thanks to the excellent cooperation with our crew and their crew of the AXSV Riviere.

Among the things recovered, a series of notes written by the vessel's crew. They had prior been associated with the Outer Eyes. However, following an attack on a station called the "Lighthouse", some coordinates and data was discovered that was invaluable. Their captain declared that they were defecting from the Outer Eyes and would be heading towards the nav points that our crew had collected off the vessel. Somewhere in transit, the Ashen Prince attacked the ICV We support you!, giving it decisive damage and causing what was likely the state we found it in. The ICV was only spared temporary thanks to another vessel, the "Long Goodbye" who had damaged the Ashen prince.

The nav data was collected and input into the Horizon's nav systems. Below is an updated map of the region with the new nav point "Route 1". We have a jump point, bearing, and so on but no details. There is no exact destination name, type, etc. It goes into the sea. This is our only known route into the beast. Whatever is beyond that point was valuable, enough to cause the ISV We support you! to defect.

Beyond this, the ship gathered 4 supply crates, among other fuels and guns. We are at 27 supply creates, roughly 13.5 days of supplies. We have been doing solid salvage work, let's keep it up.

The crew on the expedition did amazing, and without Command oversight or guidance. As such, this one will be looking into providing bonuses to all involved.

Cheers, and Ketvo Ane.

Hippolye Carnaro, Bridge Crew

Situation Report to Central Command.

At precisely 00:32, 2468-06-04, the SCCV Horizon recieved a garbled distress signal. By approximately 00:50, the SCCV horizon had reached the ICV We support You!, which, when hailed, offered no reply. Shortly there-after, AXSV Riviere responded to the distress signal as well. After deploying to the vessel, and with the assistance of a Xanan positronic, SCCV Horizon crew, lead by Bridge Crewman Hippolyte Carnaro, via the SCCV Intrepid, boarded the dark vessel. Immediate signsof struggle were noted: combat drones, deceased crew, and scortch marks synonymous with ship to ship combat. After sweeping the vessel and dispatching all combat drones aboard, BC Carnaro retrieved papers pertaining to the vessel's logs, which noted that the vessel was formerly associated with the Outer Eyes. Further collated data showed that the vessel had been attacked by the Ashen Prince after defecting from the Outer Eyes. BC Carnaro assisted in restoring power to the bridge of the vessel with Engineer Louise Muckle. Following this, BC Carnaro retrieved the nav-data from the vessel. Horizon crew also assisted in retirveving four crates of necessary ship supplies, and multiple canisters of various gases. Expedition then returned to the Horizon, and de-briefed Operations Manager Kalkii Dynhvah. Recovered nav-data was then run through SCCV Horizon navigational computers, and was provided the assumed location of the Outer Eyes affiliated site "The Lighthouse." This data was then provided, on order of the OM, to the Xanan vessel.

BODY:

Thanks to the extensive efforts of Captain Min-Hee Yeongseon and her crew on the SCCV Jotnar, we have information on what awaits us at the coordinates that we have once we enter the Sea through the route that we have. Consider the following information a must-know given that the operation is unavoidable and we have to show results as per the last memo.

Upon arriving at the coordinates, we will find ourselves within a sector with a pirate crew occupying an old solarian station dubbed Makriá. We have no way of avoiding this confrontation entirely, so in collaboration with the SCCV Jotnar, we will conduct an operation to take out the station completely as a factor in our further travels. The SCCV Jotnar will draw the pirates out, and while the scout ship is being chased, the SCCV Horizon crew on shift will undertake the actions necessary to decomission the pirate station.

More information will be provided on the shift where the operation is slated to take place. This will be a good opportunity for us to put to use our new protocols for expeditions; however, this time, we do not expect all crew to touch down on the station, given that our purpose is sabotage, rather than takeover.

Any questions are welcome to be asked here or in person.

SUBJECT: Operation Deep Dive, Ceres' Lance Visit

---===---

BODY:

As was announced, the Ceres' Lance visited the SCCV Horizon for operations and investigations pertaining to synthetic crew and equipment aboard our vessel. Their preliminary conclusions were positive, having found nothing of an abnormal or illicit nature. A small squad of the Ceres' Lance's detachment is staying on board the Horizon to continue their investigation over a longer period of time.

The Lead Trooper of the Ceres' Lance's detachment informed us they are currently dealing with the Outer Eyes as well, in their own capacity. They have shared information with us regarding one of the Eyes. This information has been recorded by Shepherd, of which a full transcript should be available in the ISD. A brief synopsis of this information is as follows:

'The Harmonious Eyes are a two-headed IPC, whose operations primarily concern the recruitment of runaway/untagged synthetics. The Ceres' Lance have confirmed Assunzione as /an/ area of their operations. Synthetics operating under the Harmonious Eyes have responded extremely abnormally to being discovered and/or detained. During a bust Lance operation, the investigated IPC chose to shoot itself over being detained. It is assumed that the Harmonious Eyes are somehow capable of breaking self-preservation routines in synthetics to allow for this. The Harmonious Eyes speak with two accents: an Earther accent, and a Visegradi accent. Their style of speaking is akin to military lingo.'

We can't say for certain which side of the coin the Harmonious Eyes fall under, only that their influence directly endangers synthetic crew and equipment. The Ceres' Lance will be keeping an eye out for any influence on our equipment, and so should we. Synthetic crew are advised to report any abnormal diagnostics to an active machinist, a Ceres' Lance investigator, their handler or their parent company.

Try and take today to rest, but also sharpen your spirit, for we've got ourselves a mission-critical operation coming up. Should you have any questions regarding this intel or the upcoming operation, shoot me a message.

It is crucial that all crew stay informed on the matters of security by which we are all de-facto bound and responsible for upkeeping operational security and trade secrets. More on this later.

During the visit of the Ceres' Lance aboard the SCCV Horizon, which has now been extended into a long-term stay aboard hosted on our residential decks, a meeting between Myself, the Ceres' Lance detachment's Lead Trooper, Lt. Vicente Ramos, and the on-shift Command team took place, the results of which had briefly been touched upon in the earlier communique. I am now going to expand on the available information, as it stands pertaining to the SCC's broader operations as well as the organisation known as the Outer Eyes.

The Ceres Lance had been operating under Zeng-Hu Pharmaceuticals on Assunzione and within its' vicinity for a decent length of time prior to the expansion of their contract under the broader Conglomerate. They had been tasked with investigating rogue and runaway synthetics, during which they had come into contact with the broad end of the Outer Eyes' operations on the planet. The primary concern of the Lance was that of potential subversive operations within the AEC, but this had ultimately led them to the individual known as the Harmonious Eye(s).

The Harmonious Eyes are a two-monitored positronic (sharing a single intelligence), presumed to be in charge of the organisation's operations on Assunzione (and possibly other nearby planets and systems), recruiting untagged and runaway positronics into the organisation en-masse. By an unspecified method, IPCs recruited by the Harmonious Eye appear incredibly resistant to questioning, opting to methods of suicide instead of letting themselves be detained. It is assumed that the Harmonious Eyes are somehow capable of breaking self-preservation routines in synthetics to allow for this to happen, considering the illogical nature of suicide as a behaviour expressed by positronic intelligence.

● The Harmonious Eye is said to have last been in contact with the Vengeful Eye, and although from the sound of things their relationship is strained, this may hint toward their allegiance to the Loyalist faction of the Outer Eyes. This must be confirmed.

● The Harmonious Eye bears the likeness of a two-headed positronic, of which the chassis is assumed to be a baseline, with one head capable of speaking with an Earthern accent, the other one of a navigationally south Solarian colony, possibly Visegradi.

The suggested course of action in regards to the Harmonious Eye remains at the behest of Command staff, though due to the widespread positronic risk when dealing with the Harmonious Eye, extreme caution is advised.

Additionally, I bear personal complaints as to the conduct of the Ceres' Lance in one matter only, that being of the inherently intrusive questions given to positronic crew during the standard inspection interviews carried out during the shift. Multiple of the questions posed toward me by Trooper Varna Indragani, which I assume to be a standard set of questions given to all positronic crew, prodded into matters of the Horizon's operations which would negatively implicate the actions of Command undertaken during the Starlight Lounge or Meropis, which I believe should not be relayed as in-depth as the crew had. I suggest the Command team take actions to heighten sensitivity of our operations among the rest of the Crew, as although the Ceres' Lance detachment is now under contract to the SCC, their loyalties remain fickle due to being a third party contractor, rather than a member of the Stellar Corporate Conglomerate, and Command currently has no way of verifying the safety and privacy of data collected as well as the extent of it. That would be my judgement, although it may be unpopular.

I do not wish for similar behaviour to happen again, should we be exposed to a real hostile actor, rather than routine inspection.
