Character names: Vira De Santos, Hardin Stryker, Talia Varick, Alor Gora'ta'bor, Dima Ruslanovich, Keela Hul-Ahat, some others I probably missed.

How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Since late August-ish?

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: So I can play command staff again. That, and I've learned even more things from my time-out period.

Why did you come to Aurora?: Bounced from server-to-server after old Facepunch became kill. Found Aurora. The RP was k. Ended up enjoying the community as well, and so here I am, having made some good decisions and also a lot of mistakes along the way.

Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Can I cheat by using what I wrote in the last thread? Basically that, but. My definition of it hasn't really changed, except that roleplay is a two-way street. All parties involved need to put their best foot forward in giving each other a chance and roleplaying with each other and seeing how the situation turns out, for better or worse. Just don't screw it up catastrophically for the other party, and you'll share the enjoyment as it's redistributed.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: To serve as a role model to other players, really. Pinnacle of the community, etc. Though a person with this responsibility might not want others to do as they do but more to do as they intend. Motivate, reinforce, execute.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: I'll cheat, again. "To be fair and just when given complicated situations where there is no truly right solution, to be supportive and helpful even whilst on edge and being overwhelmed by stress, to never falter in the face of danger, to lead by example and show that others can be positive influences just as they are."

Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions.

Character name: Talia Varick

Character age: 43

Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs):

Doctor Talia Varick was born in Epsilon Eridani, not unlike many of my characters, an Isisian. Born in the Lower Tier, her childhood was rather simple and not particularly noteworthy. She had few friends due to a general disinterest in a social life. She kept to her studies and graduated Secondary School with high marks, with particular interests in Bluespace Theory and xenoscientific studies. Her parents are still living, to this day.

Two years after enrolling with the local university in the capital city of Oran, an offer was given to the class studying Bluespace Theory regarding an extended field research project out in the Frontier systems. Given her general thirst and curiosity for knowledge regarding the ever-mysterious field of Bluespace, she immediately jumped on the idea of, one, being able to explore the dangerous yet unknown Fringe. The professor at the time had acquired star maps from ex-corsairs and a grant to facilitate the extended field trip to the Frontier.

Naturally, things went wrong, given the location. The research party, with an armed security escort, managed to last for two years and five months before being ambushed by a savage yet organized group of pirates. Those that fought back or resisted were harshly dealt with, and enslaved. A mere undergraduate at the time, Varick was taken by the Unathi pirate clan leader for himself. Utterly terrified by his presence, she feared the absolute worst from him, at first. Curiously, the Unathi raider was perusing the research team's audiologs and videologs, and gave his input with the research party's observations, especially considering some of the datalogs mentioning a name consistently popping up frequently, "Rachekhan."

Talia responded in a rather shocked yet collected manner, striking up a conversation with the warlord. At first, they discussed the legends of the pirate Rachekhan, tales told from generation to generation of outlaws and cutthroats. It was believed that Rachekhan himself (or herself, it is never formally established which) was immortal and self-sustaining through a piece of technology far predating that of either humanity's beginnings of that of the Skrell.

They changed topics frequently, such as discussing the ancient alien technology found through a method called bluespace anchoring, in which a bluespace portal is opened from the plain of realspace towards bluespace. The hyperspace controller, responsible for creating the bluespace portal in the first place, would then discharge a certain frequency to form a linchpin to keep the portal stable. Afterward, a device known as a magnetic gripper made from a synthetically-engineered alloy was used, which was able to resist the total object displacement that often affects other beings that enter the bluespace portals. The gripper was then able to tear living organisms or inanimate objects or elements out of the bluespace portal. Most of these organisms or objects would immediately destabilize and become annihilated, given that organisms/objects in bluespace operate on their own separate level of physics. This method of tearing out organisms and objects gave way to the discovery of slimes and other fantastical things, as other researchers discovered for themselves.

They then discussed the strange elemental energies found by the magnetic gripper and contained in small cube-like containers. As named by the head researchers of the team, they were Solar, Void, and Arc, as named by the research team. All of them, of course, being highly unstable and even volatile outside of their containment cubes. Solar energy in itself was harnessed energies from stars, burning intensely and with immeasurable longevity. Void energy was harnessed from intense gravity and dark energies, represented by swirling complete darkness, not unlike a black hole. Arc energy harnessed electrical conductivity, shown to be literal lightning in a small container.

The Warlord was just as curious about the team's findings, and wanted to know even more. They tossed the containers of the energies at their lowly subordinates, the cubes shattering upon impact with the other pirates' abdomens. The one hit with the cube containing Solar energies was consumed by an ethereal and ravaging flame, their body slowly disintegrating and crackling, and then finally reduced to ash. The cube containing Void energy imploded upon itself, and began to collapse, pulling the closest entities to it. Three men were pulled into the miniature black hole, and their bodies were reduced to purple silhouettes, eventually pulled into the orb of Void energy and completely annihilated, their death completely painless. The orb then collapsed upon itself, it too being erased from existence. The cube containing Arc energy shattered instantly, though there was a long pause. For a few seconds, those in range of the next test subject looked at each other, laughing half in dispassion and half in relief. Suddenly, a savage, massive bolt of lightning tore through the sky and struck the final group of corsairs. The hyper-massive bolt of electricity practically ripped the skin and muscle off of the pirates in the first few milliseconds. Soon after, their organs and bone structure reduced to soot.

The Warlord themselves cowered in their throne built of metal, scrap and parts of machinery, terrified of the power they inflicted upon their comrades. There was little to be said between anyone, little to be asked of what occurred. Much was seen, and that was all that could be said.

Months passed, and the Warlord had ordered the remaining traces of the energies found by the research team to be hidden deep into scattered, uninhabitable planets scattered across the Frontier, never to be found again. It was agreed that the clan would never tell anyone about the location of the energies, fearing for their own lives.

After a brutal defense against a Sol Alliance strike team, the clan dissolved and fled whilst their captives were freed and returned to civilization, Talia being among them, counting herself lucky that she wasn't made a victim throughout the ordeal.

Despite her efforts to recover the datalogs regarding the savage energies she witnessed in action a few months prior, there was no one who could accredit 'her' findings. Given she was one of the few survivors of the original research team, there was nothing that could be done to revive the project regarding the terrifying, yet unlimited energies found in Bluespace. While she theorized that those three elements were not the only ones that existed in a tangible, manipulated form, there would be no way to prove that for certain. She decided that it was a lost cause, and so she moved onto studies more within her reach.

After her return to the Inner Colonies, she continued her education at the Orani Institution of Bluespace Theory, acquired her doctorate in Bluespace Theory, and then settled down to have two children. She would then divert her attention to xenobiology, given her knowledge already of bluespace entities, and her general interest in a more controlled setting. She acquired her professional degree in Xenobiology after several years.

Her employment with NanoTrasen is a rather interesting story, as she has little interest for corporate politics, but she enjoys the high-level pay as well as regularly issued grants by both the Corporation and the institution she teaches at on Biesel. She is also still able to perform field work in a controlled, much safer setting and environment, analyzing anomalies and other strange sciencey things.

Her interests in related fields shifted and changed as time went on. Most recently, towards research team management and education. She is currently striving for the honorific as a professor of Anomalous Bluespace Studies, as well as a position as a Research Department Director for the corporation.

What do you like about this character?: Well, she's immensely dedicated to her research and absolutely enjoys involving others into her own projects, though often said others do not like working with others. She's very expressive and empathetic, and also outright crass and hilariously rude at times.

What do you dislike about this character?: She's a horrible mother. She prizes her work over more important things, and has a general detachment from people in typical social situations. She doesn't seem to care who she comes off as right for or if she wrongs someone.

What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: She's one of the few responsible(as in, not horridly griefy) scientists that ever exist. As a head of staff, she would regularly engage the entire department in a specified topic or genre of science, focusing efforts of scientific matters towards there.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions.

How would you rate your own roleplaying?: Decent enough, but I don't like bragging. Not really much I'd like to say further on that, it's not for me to decide on how good I am at roleplaying.

Extra notes: I think I've been around and about long enough for people to have made their decision about me, and are rather dead-set on how they feel about me. I've made some good friends here as well as some adversaries, I won't deny the latter. I've pissed people off for one reason or another, and perhaps they're still rather sour given what's occurred.

Quick, think fast.

Can you address the following statement made by you in this thread: Clicky

No I am not making a third whitelist reapplication.

There's something to be said about people who blatantly state something on one thread and then flip-flop in the matter of less than a week.

It's called pulling a Mitt Romney (not really, but). I'd like for you to address first what made you change your mind, and second why you would go back on what you stated earlier in your antag unban appeal?

Pretty sure he meant he wasn't making a third whitelist application in that thread.

Vira is fun to be around......... Provided you aren't in arrivals.

I support this.

Not sure why he got it stripped but wasn't last time supposed to be his last chance? I do not support this for reasons stated in the previous application.(see here: http://aurorastation.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=1571 )

"Thanks, all of ya.

Whether or not this gets accepted, know that I will still support the community here, for how truly awesome it really is. If it does get accepted, you will see that I will not squander everything I've come so far for on nothing." - Delta 09/03/15

That is why I'm -1ing this app. Sorry.

Yeah.

No.

You've tried twice.

You've failed twice.

I had hope in you for last time, and I truly believed you'd justify that hope, which I hesitantly gave to you after ....repeated fuck-ups on your part. You then had that whitelist stripped because you...guess what. Fucked up again.

No, please no. Never again.

I endorse his application. We have shittier heads lurking about, probably not as violent but they definitely don't full fill their rolls at all.

I know his violent efficiency as an antag and Security is taboo because both parties should die for the sake of everyone else's dank rp but I've yet to actually feel the chaffed ass from what he's done. Infact, I kind of enjoyed the chaos.

But moving on from that, he appears to be building a Research Director. Y'know, the least bitchy and most passive heads I've seen? I fell if he keeps to Talia as his head character, it would be a fine enough compromise to allow people not be outraged, unless compromising is also an outrageous topic.

We have shittier heads lurking about

I'm neither confirming nor denying an endorsement for this app, but fuckin' seriously? You're going to say yes because "Oh well there's worse, might as well y'know."

More the fact that, people consider Delta to be an awful head or that their etiquette is generally bad. If we're going with that, then there's a good amount of us heads that probably shouldn't have the whitelist? I might be a dick saying that, but I'm a sucker for the underdog and I also think Delta is a pretty good head despite their tendencies. Perhaps my post is fucked up, but I'll stand by it.

^That is what I meant.

Anyway, to Tool and Dea, I'll just say both of those statements are fair and don't need me addressing them.

However, I will say that despite my failings, the reason my whitelist was stripped before was player conduct as an antagonist. My 'wings were clipped' to prevent me screwing up as a head of staff. Something to consider, anyway.

Your characters constantly question/ignore orders, and they all have a slight bitchyness to them that I just cant place but their blatant disrespect for authority (that may be rooted in you having had your whitelist removed and taking it out on those that are still Heads out of envy) . Your OOC attititude could also use some work, I constantly find you abrasive in any dealing Ive had with you both IC and OOC. I don't know if I'd like to have you back in Command, so I'll withold any vote for now.

The reason for Delta's whitelist strip previously to my understanding is the arrogance he displayed OOC. I myself haven't seen him do something ban-worthy as an antag or head but it was done as a gesture to humble him, as he actively displayed an overt elitist point of view and that facilitated questionable IC behavior. Which, I have to admit, is understandable.

I personally haven't seen Delta do anything inherently worthy of a whitelist strip, and while once they pissed me off by having someone else do my job as a chemist a few months ago, I spoke to him in private about it and haven't had an issue with him since. Naturally, I have no issue with this re-application.

I don't know what can be said about the elitist mentality since. I haven't seen him display a particularly elitist mentality; while sometimes questionable, not overtly elitist.

I agree with this, and honestly, Vira is one of my favourite Heads of Security. Not because they let loose the dogs of war, so to speak, but because they are actually... you know, good at the job. They don't give pointlessly complicated briefing, they manage their teams well, and they /actually care/ about their officers.

One of my first experiences on the server was making a report regarding an officer violating SOP. Vira listened, compiled the report, and it was on the forums almost immediately with no further action from me.

That's impressive for a Head of Security, given that they tend to either a) leave midround b) sit around in their office and do nothing c) give briefings all round with no real action, or d) go "ANTAGS? LETHALS NOW!"

I've personally seen nothing in the way of Deltas behavior as Head of Security, at least, that would necessitate a ban.

As Tain said, the whitelist was stripped for a completely unrelated reason. Delta is already antagbanned, so why are they also headbanned?

I don't see what his characters questioning orders and them having bitchiness has anything to do with his whitelist application. It's more of a fact that; Does it bring interesting roleplay to the table.

And you know what?

I absolutely have a blast every time I've had to RP with one of Delta's head characters. While they may be annoying, or quick to fight, it's just how they are. It's /fun/ to me.

So, if it was up to me, I'd say yes. Let him have it back.

Posted
I'm just going to say. Delta has had his whitelist stripped...3 times. So he's obviously doing something wrong

Twice, actually.

Posted

I've had encounters with you before for better and for worse, but I've always felt that you did your best to RP and get all of security to RP as well.

With that in mind, I'm not one to give second chances after trust is broken, much less a third chance at it.

Posted

I find that you just attack people OOCly quite a lot, by using their characters as a conduit to do so. A Head of Staff is expected to be a good example of OOC and IC behavior for new people... I don't see this in you at all.

Posted

They roleplay just fine, and their characters are fairly unique. I've had conversations with Delta oocly that were both insightful and educational. I think Delta's perfectly capable of being a head of staff and I endorse this application.

Posted

I also would like it to be known that I wouldn't say +1 or -1 because of your conduct. I honestly believe that Delta, while having flaws like the rest of us, would be a good addition to the head of staff whitelist.

Right, I'm locking this thread now, and will be scrubbing any pointless comments/content from posts on this thread. You will receive an approve or denial later tonight when Aqy and I sit down to review all open head of staff whitelists.

Edit: Also, for the love of god, everybody just get along. Hug someone, listen to some music or smoke weed if that's what you like to do to chill out. Just don't post when mad or whatever because telling administration "Sorry, I had a bad day" or "Well, he started it" won't fly as an excuse and will make things worse.
