I.Mythos
After playing this game quite a few times and noticing that psychic powers, while awesome, are never actually implemented or used due to the amount of time and effort geneticist(s) need to discover them each round. However I also feel like making them available to everyone would lead to a lot of shitlering and overall detract from much of psychic power's appeal anyway. So I propose a third option that I've only plagiarised from two other science fiction franchises . The Psi-Officer Basically players will now have the ability to declare their characters 'Psychic' during character set up; if the player does so their character will be spawn with telepathy and one or two other psychic powers of their choice, telekinesis and remote viewing for example. But it comes with a price, employment opportunities aboard Nanotransen facilities are limited to a single position, the Psi-Officer. The Psi-Officer perform functions only those with their abilities can: moving large objects telekenetically, tracking people with astral viewing, sending discreet messages that can't risk being recovered etc, basically serving as the stations spy service with occasional use for miscellaneous tasks. They have relatively high access levels and are considered to be authority figures aboard the station. Thanks for your consideration I.Mythos P.S I'd recommend white listing it aswell Link to comment

Japak121
..Alright. A few questions: 1. What happens when genetics now 'discovers' things like TK? If someone is gifted them, must they switch over to that job no matter what? Do we retconn the whole 'Genetics Research' thing and make it now a utility? I don't see many geneticists liking this. 2. Are the 'Psi-Officers" loyalty implanted? Because they would need to be. Also, what purpose would they really serve? "Moving large items with TK" = A dystopian cargo technician. "Remote Viewing" = Glorified Security Camera Guy/Guy who will know where any antag is the moment they're found out.. "Sending discreet messages" = A PDA system. I'm sorry, but as different as this idea is, it really doesn't add anything new to the game except "Here are some people that now start with genetic powers....and they have an office!" Â Other forms of genetics will still exist; not every power will be available to chose and there's still people to clone and tests to be done. I didn't actually think about the former question; I guess it would have to depend on their original position and how important it is. Â Are the 'Psi-Officers" loyalty implanted? I probably used bad examples there but PDA's can be taken, cameras can be blocked and CT's are too weak to move certain things themselves and imagine someone who could do all of those things at once, without the need for outside equipment. Â I'm sorry, but as different as this idea is, it really doesn't add anything new to the game except "Here are some people that now start with genetic powers....and they have an office!" LordFowl
Keep genetics but remove the DNA scanner, and make it so that at round start certain people are selected to have a psionic gift that develops rapidly in the bluespace aura that the NSS Aurora emits. The geneticist's job is to find one of these gifted personnel and conduct tests on them, perhaps even including an autopsy. They have full permission to research this gift in any way they see fit. the_furry
Eh im against this. Alot of fun in genetics is exploring the powers. I dont like that we're gifting powers to the same people that regularly arrest geneticist for walking out of their lab. I think this can be done icly. Just last night i got the captains permission to gift an officer with powers to test genetic uses in security. If you wana explore that then rp with the genitists and get the powers. Dont just make it a whole new job Link to comment

Aetherscald
I agree that it shouldn't be a job, but if it were something that people get randomly selected for now THAT would be interesting. Then it could be this whole thing where the person either keeps their powers a secret or hands themselves over to the proper authorities and hope for the best. Geneticists wouldn't have to grind through enzymes for the power and instead could just extract a buffer from these individuals if they so choose. This all being said, I don't think everyone should be gifted exclusively with TK. Bring back some of the minor powers for this sort of thing. Some people might get some sort of great advantage that they can choose to use or ignore, and others might get nothing or a minor power that may or may not benefit them. If the right staff are on board then who knows, SEC could turn into some sort of psychic super force for the shift or Engineering could be wiring solars naked. Or your friendly neighborhood psychic janitor would get swooped up, loyalty implanted, and set as SEC's secret weapon against communi- I mean seditious corporate mutineers. Link to comment

Shh, I'm working on that suggestion. so i do like the idea of some people coming in with powers however i think this should be a side thing. I mean if only one person has powers and they die/cryo/dont want to be in research thats gona leave the genitists with nothing to do. And lets face it its gona be rare for someone to want to be stuck in the genitcis lab so someone else can do their job. If this is the only way to research powers its gonna end up being the genitists will have nothing to do way more often then not. So i think its a cool idea and a great way to develop powers faster if the stars align, but it should not be the core of genetics. Link to comment

Conservatron
i feel like Psi-ops are best kept as a special event kind of thing with admin oversight so they can actually replicate abilities not doable via mechanics Link to comment
