Doomberg - Muting OOC over Tajaran discussions or something

I do not seek their respect, I do not require their respect, I do not demand their respect. I have, in fact, one demand: Stop, or go.

I'm not particularly curious as to why they behave the way they do. No reason in the world would justify it.

And to answer your edit: I feel it was. Complacency and pointless attempts at reasoning with people who do not want to be reasonable was what allowed this sentiment of "I have the right to express my opinion even if it offends everyone" to take root.

I can't really disagree with that.

If you don't like users, don't want to discuss issues with users, and want to boot users out when something goes wrong with them, you can. If you're saying you can't be convinced to think otherwise, well, you can't be convinced.

I didn't think that was what the purpose of a headmin was, but there's only one headmin on this server, and they get to decide what their purpose is.

I do my best to avoid removing or generally punishing people unless I feel they are detrimental to the community and it's absolutely necessary. The issue is, a lot of these people live in the past, they're frustrated by the fact that things have changed, and they actively seek to undermine the staff and militantly preach their ideology. This conflict is older than the incident discussed here, and had been occurring since before Chaz even resigned from his position as a moderator - which is why I've reached the conclusion that there isn't really any discussion to be had.

Admins should stop being so oppresive and just let us talk in OOC. If you don't like it, mute it. The hide OOC button exists for a reason.

If the discussion isn't extremely hateful towards real life feelings, then let it go.

You, like many others, seem to forget that there is a Rule 1. Don't be a dick. It's there with the intent to stop people from being assholes in general and from ruining the game for others. Do you REALLY think that if what your saying is causing people to mute OOC, that you aren't breaking rule 1?

Cause others to mute OOC = You are being a dick to those people, thus breaking rule 1, thus giving admins/mods a reason to shut you down.

It's very simple. Even in a democracy you can't say whatever you want wherever you want. If you want to argue a point, take it to the forums where it won't clutter up OOC, where people can avoid it if they so choose, and where it has the added benefit of being much more organized and much easier to read.

What I think is relevant.

I can handle lore based IC hate, It's the constant OOC hate of the Tajara that gets old. Can we maybe crack down on that? It's discouraging to play a race that is so hated and slandered in OOC by even "Staff" of the server.

Mmhm. I agree, +1 and stuff.

However, this problem covers a little more than just Tajarans. Any topic, whether it's robots, cats, lizards, security, anything. Some just people cannot resist screaming "shitcurity", "burn cats", "gas lizards", "ban Voltage/whoever", "nazinazipenispenis", "i always shoot robots on sight", "alwys ham baton guise", you get the idea. While I myself am a nazi furry-hater, I don't "shitpost" in OOC. And I don't turn every discussion into a "throwing joke insults at everything and everybody"-party. Just observe how OOC talks go on, on our server.

This is relevant, I believe that OOC would end sooner or later, or a healthy discusscussion would never happen. That is why we can't have nice things.

If someone muted OOC and I 'caused' them to do it I'm a dick and broke a rule? Most people just mute OOC because they don't want to see the conversation while playing or just don't like having OOC open.

Turning off your OOC doesn't make the people enagaged in the discussion ducks. Making that assumption is just plain stupid.

If I am in a public place and don't like when someone is talking loud or singing it something and I put in ear buds to drown out the noise, does it make them a dick? No. I just don't want to hear it and have the choice to listen or block it out.

Comparing it to democracy isn't true. You can say whatever you want whenever you want. The freedom of speech comes with the equally important right to be offended.

Er. I'm pretty sure this can be aptly answered in a very brief statement: You have no freedom of speech. There is no such thing in a moderated, private online community. That isn't to say you'll be censored for complaining or having a certain opinion, but when you start pissing people off left and right, you don't have the right to continue.

There might be something wrong when your defense can essentially be summed up to "We own the place! We can do what we want!" rather than trying to argue an actual rationale to explain why you think an user is in the wrong.

1. If you offend someone and you don't care that you're offending someone, as evidenced by your argument that they can "turn off there OOC if they don't like it" then yes, that is dickish behaviour. Also, this isn't the same thing as a public place. This is a moderated server with rules, like 1. Don't be a dick. Real life there are no laws that say 1. Don't be a dick. That's a key difference. You may not like it, but there are other places you can be and no one is forcing you to be here. If you go out in public and someone is argueing with someone else, you HAVE to put in earplugs (assuming you have them) or walk away or LEAVE because there is no law against them being dicks. HERE we have a rule against it, so if you're doing things that would make people "put in earplugs or walk away" the staff can mute you so those other people DONT HAVE TO DO THAT.

Also, way to ignore the part about the fact you can come to the forums to argue your point and all the relevance that entails. Keep picking and choosing your battles.

Possibly. On the other hand, notice how there is a discussion taking place here on the forums about this. The point is simply: Don't do it in OOC, do it on the forums. Why is it so hard to simply..do that? It's not. I'd argue it's much more convenient doing so on the forums than in OOC where multiple people are talking about other things and people in-game are also looking at IC messages.

If you go to someone's house and they ask you not to do something in one room, but to do it in another, you don't get angry and argue and raise hell. You simply go to the other room because it's not your house. The same principle applies here. The staff here do this for free and with the objective of enforcing rules and keeping the game moving. If they ask you not to argue in OOC, then tell you not to and to move it to the forums, then if it's worth making a complaint, it's worth just making a topic on the forums.

I'm sorry, but I don't see how you can possibly go from "There is no real freedom of speech here because you do not have the right to keep expressing your opinion in certain places when you're pissing a lot of people off" to "We own the place, we do whatever we please.". What I said applies to literally every single online community barring a few very specific exceptions, so I'm going to politely ask you not to twist my words.

Notice how you've been allowed to complain constantly with little to no intervention or censorship? Yep. Me too.

Spokes person for Chazzy boy here again, bringing you all the latest news:

Quote 1

'Continue stirring drama in OOC and you will accept the entirety of the consequences.'

Quote 2

'Alright. Three conditions for your continued presence here, then. You do not fuck with the players. You do not intentionally test my staff. You keep your ideology to private conversations and don't try to cause riots in OOC, LOOC or dsay. In exchange, you will receive the same treatment and privileges every other player does.'

Both of those quotes are from Doomberg in a private chat. Alongside that, Doomberg also stated that mine and the opinions of others do not count, stating that he does what he wants to. This seems to factor into this complaint somewhat. As one other player in the chat stated, 'Doomberg, you want a mile but won't budge an inch.

Edit: This isn't bloody me talking you lot, I'm posting on behalf of Chaz, you wanna tell him how much of a dick he is, go talk to him on skype

From the very same chat you speak of:

[9/16/2015 7:30:39 AM] gamegod: um

[9/16/2015 7:30:43 AM] chaz: Earn respect, don't demand it.

[9/16/2015 7:30:44 AM] chaz: ;)

[9/16/2015 7:30:47 AM] *** chaz has left ***

"stating that he does what he wants to". This was never stated nor implied. When an attempt at discussion starts with behavior like the above (note that I had not even gotten the chance to type), no, you're not likely to get much out of it. So let me reiterate my explanation: When you are a disgruntled former member of staff engaging in a more benign equivalent of raiding, no, your opinion will not matter to me, nor will I make any attempt to accommodate you.

When you act like a regular player, you will be treated like a regular player.

When you act like a problem, you will be dealt with like a problem.

If a statement of "follow the rules and be treated like someone who does" - because we've reached the point where this statement apparently needs to be explicitly made for certain people, unfortunately - bothers you, then I really can't help you.

Then explain what people did to piss other people off - because that's what you should be arguing, not how right you are. I feel like you're focusing a lot more on the power you supposedly hold than is necessary.

Then explain what people did to piss other people off - because that's what you should be arguing, not how right you are. I feel like you're focusing a lot more on the power you supposedly hold than is necessary.

Notice how you've been allowed to complain constantly with little to no intervention or censorship? Yep. Me too.
