Syndiekate Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 Port the code from BS-12 that allows for multiple designs of prosthetic for anyone with a robotic limb. At my last count it was 5 designs, four of which being from some company or another each having unique appearances and then an 'unbranded' one which has the current prosthetic aesthetic. This allows for a diversity in prosthetic designs which allows for people to pick ones that they like rather than having to settle with a bland-looking one and compensating with flavor text.
Killerhurtz Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 To be honest, how often do you see prosthetics anyway? I'm fairly sure that of all the garments possible, there's only 2 which show the arm. So unless it's an easy, clean job, I'm against this.
Syndiekate Posted October 13, 2015 Author Posted October 13, 2015 I see it...every round? Short-sleeves, rolled down jumpsuits, you can see them on -every- one of these. Which are pretty common to see
Xelnagahunter Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 I'm starting to see a pattern here. I find it awesome that you have the care to suggest things that, at least in your eyes, improves the server. However, we are not BS12. Our code used them as a base when it got started, so we've generated changes of our own, but so have they. We aren't looking to be a clone of BS12. I have characters with prosthesis, and don't get me wrong because this would be neat, but I can't see this as a possibly important code project. Note that my opinion on the status of our code is not used in any official capacity, simply my personal opinion.
Syndiekate Posted October 13, 2015 Author Posted October 13, 2015 (edited) However, we are not BS12. We aren't looking to be a clone of BS12. This is one of the things Anisa told me I'd get told when I told her I was making these suggestions. Aurora is based on BS-12, 90% of your code is BS-12 and it's that-way for a reason. Because it's better code than other available codebases and it works better for roleplaying. I'm suggesting adding variety, options and ways for each character to look at least slightly different. Where the code comes from doesn't and shouldn't matter as long as the code meets two criteria 1. It works 2. It adds cool shit. I don't want you to be a clone of BS-12, BS-12 has gone to shit lately but they DO still have good ideas, and the good stuff they've added shouldn't be ignored because "we're different" Edited October 13, 2015 by Guest
Dreamix Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 Except, one thing. Aren't fully customisable limbs (+flavor text) much better than a few brands you can choose from? If Aurora focuses on "LES BE DIFFURENT" instead of adding cool shit code-wise, then I'm disappointed. As for it being a "Big project" it's not. Please stop.
Syndiekate Posted October 13, 2015 Author Posted October 13, 2015 Aren't fully customisable limbs (+flavor text) much better than a few brands you can choose from? I'm not saying that you should remove the customization ability that Aurora currently has. I'm saying that more options should be added to it, with the skin/fur/scale/etc options being retained for the "Unbranded" limb. While also adding more options for those that want a prosthetic of different physical design.
Killerhurtz Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 ...I didn't even know that you could modify prosthetics, it's been a while. It makes it even less worthwhile, to me, to implement branded prosthetics - because no one will be able to tell at a glance, especially since a lot of them (and I've seen them, I know what you're talking about - the Hepaestus Industries one IS pretty nice) are very similar to what could be done with paint and such.
Dreamix Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 @Syndiekate Now, I fail to understand what exactly do you want (in gameplay/in-game terms). Do you want branded limbs? That can be easily achieved by flavor text, without limiting people with only five options to choose from. Would you like a fancy limb-only-extra-flavor text? This can also be achieved with the use of flavor text. However, psychical design/different looks/another set of sprites is a entirely different thing. Because of how our IPC's/shells work alongside of our human prothesis's. I think, humans work exactly like how our IPC's work, they just can't change their torso, groin, and heads, I believe that it's possible to add another set of sprites: limbs for everyone, limbs+head+torso+groin for IPC's. But, I'm not a coder, not even in a little. That's just how I think it works, after taking a look at both IPC and human character setup screen.
SierraKomodo Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 As for it being a "Big project" it's not. I'm not an official developer (Although I do contribute occasionally), but I can also say I wouldn't feel like shifting through Bay's code to grab the relevant stuff, make sure it works with our changes, etc etc. If it's so easy, what's stopping you from going in and making the adjustments and testing it yourself, then sending a pull request? https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora
Syndiekate Posted October 14, 2015 Author Posted October 14, 2015 If it's so easy, what's stopping you from going in and making the adjustments and testing it yourself, then sending a pull request? Because I'm a Reservoir engineer that's scheduled to work for the next 14 days straight, in addition to helping my girlfriend move in to my current place, while meanwhile trying to find a new place. I'm pretty busy otherwise I'd do it @Syndiekate Now, I fail to understand what exactly do you want (in gameplay/in-game terms). Go on a more up-to-date BS-12 server. Open the character interface and select prosthetic limb, I want those additional options to be added. While retaining the current customization options (Skin/scale/etc) on the unbranded ones. Literally all I want is more customization options for prosthetic limbs, I have no idea why this is such a big deal
Carver Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 They look pretty solid to me. More customization is never a bad thing to help make our 32x32 sprites a little more visually different from each other.
jackfractal Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 It is very easy to create additional 'skin' categories for prosthetics. Right now we have two robotic looking limb types: 'paint', which is the IPC version and 'no paint' which is the really old school cyborg. Adding extra ones is like... maybe five lines of code if you have the sprites.
