We could use more ATMs.

  • Just south of the kitchen's southern counter, and in the kitchen itself for a functionality listed below.
  • Medical lobby, and in medical itself.
  • In cargo's lobby. In cargo itself.
  • Adjacent or as near as possible to RnD's table.
  • In the security hallway/locker room.

The deposit functionality that would be added would allow someone, after putting in their ID, to deposit physical money into their department account. This lets people charge/place fines. The paying crew member can easily walk a few steps to an ATM instead of hunting for the bewilderingly placed ones as current and withdraw money for it. The clerk, in this case the chef, can then deposit the money directly into an ATM.

This lets people charge for food and bypass the EFPOS system, allowing service to make money without relying on a HoP to give them the department account, without the total inability to get the money into the account. Otherwise we have to embezzle and that's bad. It's also easier than EFTPOS and gives physical money some meaning.

In an ideal set-up, instead of manually finding account numbers, the accounts are listed and you are able to select to deposit into an account from that list.

If we're going to implement more ATM's we really need to add persistence to the ATM.

Perhaps every shift you participate in you get a certain amount of credits added to your corporate bank account.

Deposit functionality exists as you described it; even works with charge cards.

Also, I support more ATMs.

Edit: Too slow to notice you mentioned department accounts. Who would get access to which accounts?

Heads would get access to their department's account.

Security a "fines account"(?)

QM gets one. (?) (or maybe all civs get one, chef, bartender, etc)

I don't see any argument against it, other than the work required to implent it. But my question is why?

the money system on aurora doesn't seem to serve any purpose.

All the things that you'd typically spend money on, eg rent, utility bills, furniture, new clothes, luxuries, etc, are off-station. You don't typically spend your salary at work, it defeats the point of working

The concept of paying for food and drink at work seems reasonable, but if it's' realistic those costs are going to be so low it doesn't matter, and i'd question the need for a money system at all. If the costs of those are high enough to be a significant dent in your paycheck, then imo that's pretty unrealistic and brings the question of "Why would anyone want to work here?"

The point of making department account deposits is that a department doesn't need the HoP to set everything up. The chef would put in his ID and click the "deposit funds" button. He'd then get a list of the department accounts. He would then click "Civilian" (or 'security' or whatever if he had some antag plan or mistake???) and click the ATM. The funds from the 20 thalers used to pay for meals would then be deposited into the civilian account.

I've actually been told by HoP's that we're not charging for food and it's bewildering. The HoP needs to be all over jewing up the station.

Do you have a job? I spend like $6 a day on food at work for lunch or grabbing something to eat over my break. Lots of hospitals have cafeterias where staff can buy and eat. Aircraft carriers in the Navy tend to be floating cities and filled with all kinds of stores. Hell even prison lets you buy things. If I worked on a big research station with vending machines, a bar, and a restaurant, you bet I'd spend a chunk of my $$$ buying crap.

Talking about giving money more weight is a separate suggestion.

If their department head/HoP sets up the EFTPOS for them a warden can charge people fines for minor crimes instead of brig time.

I do agree with this, do you not play much to see it for yourself?

Although i'd generally thought that since NT is paying for the supplies/ingredients, and the barman/chef's time, that those people don't have a right to charge for their goods. I figured the supply of them was just treated as part of the costs of running the station.

I've worked in an office before, i'd spend way more than that on a combination of transport getting there, and food during lunchtime. But I still disagree with the assertion. On food and drink, you're not going to be spending all your money. You're pretty much guaranteed to never run out, and with no consequence or incentive to have money left over at the end of the shift, i just don't see the point in it.

I don't see any problems with the idea i guess, if we're set on having a money system it seems like an improvement to it. I just don't see how it's worth developer time, or how it'd improve the game.
