Server Moderator Application

Basic Information

Byond Account: Hivefleetchicken

Character Name(s): Amber Jameson, Rook Jameson, Shas'kala Sakaei, Kor'el'as Sakaei, Abel Coates

AI Name(s): I don't play any consistent AI characters.

Preferred means of contact: Skype or Steam, I am active a few times a day on each.

Age: 17.

Timezone: Pacific Standard Time. (GMT -7)

When are you on Aurora?:Usually every day, I check the forums consistently. I haven't played a lot since the new code since (personally) I think it's rubbish. But I'm usually on every weekend consistently when I'm not working.

Experience

How long have you played SS13?: Over two years, I started playing at the beginning of 2014.

How long have you played on Aurora: Over two years, I've been here since around Spring 2014.

How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: I have extensive knowledge of pretty much all features of the admin panel aside from debug, and extensive knowledge of all in-game mechanics aside from atmos, which I'm not too amazingly talented in outside of stopping plasma grief.

Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: I was primary admin on a tg-code station called 'Archangel' for a year. I was unanimously considered the fairest and most player-engaged admin on the server, not my words.

Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: I have never been banned.

Personality

Why do you play SS13?: It's a fun game to play, it's got a lot of heart and a lot of community in it, and the independence one can adopt just by playing is pretty chill.

Why do you play on Aurora?: It's neither overrun by ERPers nor dominated by raging powergamers, and that tranquil area in between is where it really shines. Unfortunately that area becomes less and less stable every day, and drama breaks out, etc. Aurora is fragile and everyone playing on it has an obligation to keep the peace.

What do moderators do?: They stay vigilant and make sure that OOC and IC situations which break rules - ahelped or not - are noticed and reported to admins for instruction or for the case to be taken off their hands. It's really just that simple. Moderators are the halfway point between being an admin and a player, and they're supposed to act like that. They keep everything fair, they report to admins, and they communicate with players.

What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: To be a moderator is to be somewhat of a watchdog - your designation is that of one who moderates the server, but in reality you're really supposed to handle ahelps, get info, watch over the playerbase when others are unavailable, not jump into things guns blazing, and refer to administrators whenever possible so that they can either help with judgement in situations that require more than one staff member or take cases entirely.

Why do you want to be a moderator?: I feel like taking my obligation to keeping the peace a little further, even though I'm halfway doing this because I know this will get rejected anyways and there aren't any real implications of creating this - but back to the original question. I'm applying for moderator because I want to not only get a chance to prove that I can carry my weight and help handle the situations I always see admins complaining about, as well as sort of play a small part in tying the playerbase and the staff together a bit more. Because as of late it's like there's just a severed cerebral receptor that has made the staff and the blue-tide two separate entities.

What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: I can keep a cool head, I'm very fair with players, and I don't jump into overdrive the second I see something that might look wrong like I've noticed many mods do here. Not pointing any fingers, but I can hold back with the aggression in stressful situations whereas a lot of mods here can't seem to even begin to.

How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: I used to be a whiny bitch about insults, but now that I've been exposed to countless chats with Delta and Bokaza I've gotten used to having my name and personal info shitflung around. I can take insults very professionally now, and keep a calm conduct when dealing with almost any IC issue since, after all, it really is just a game.

Anything Else You Want to Add:

Joey Mortadeliano will never truly die.

From what I can tell, you've spent more time memeing and trolling on the forums and OOC than you do actually playing or doing anything on server. That, combined with how many forum warnings we've had to give you in the past few months makes me want to say no to this. How do we know you're going to be more mature if you become staff?

If I become a Moderator there's no doubt I'll cut down on the cynicism, since that's what it really is. Instead of me just being sarcastically grumpy about everything I'll actually have a way of communicating with staff that's not something as illegitimate as OOC, prompting me to actually be serious in my communication with other staff and my conduct when communicating with them.

By doing the same thing the staff has effectively done for everyone, Sierra. Run them through a trial, see them at work, see if they're fitted for duty. Worst that happens is that Hive isn't right for the job and he's a player again.

He deserves a chance, at the very least. He was a fam-tastic admin on ArchAngel, and he's overall a good guy, if you're willing to suspend your disbelief for his shitposting.

That's what I can +1. Good job, Malcolm.

Considering how they are actually serious, understandable, can explain what they think in non-insulting manner, generally being okay (my engrish, please). Unless they're in progress of claiming off-topic again, of course.
