BYOND Key: Mofo1995

Character Names: Isiah Fraser, Shkor-Dyet Dom'Pesh, Maximillius Chrysostom, other lesser known characters

Species you are applying to play: Tajaran

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Wheat

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Как точно!

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race: Despite the misconceptions I initially had about Tajarans, I read their wiki page about a month back and found that the lore was actually rock solid. The tenuous struggle between the three factions vying for control of Adhomai, as well as the structured ethnic-social class system are two points which strike me as particularly rich. I feel as though this is a deep well of background I can draw upon to effect good roleplay on the station, as well as to raise awareness about the Tajaran condition to others.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Unlike humans, Tajarans have a (somewhat) rigid ethnic class system. They have extremely unconventional sleep cycles, and so a few days of inactivity for a Tajaran could just mean that they went to bed. There are three very bitter factions at each others' throats, and so you have to be careful about other Tajarans if they find out you don't support their flavor of dystopia back on the homeworld. Their fur is thick for the cold Adhomai weather, so they really feel the discomfiture in warmer rooms. And, of course, they roll all their R's and get accused of being anthropomorphic cats by bald racist coworkers. Lastly, they speak in the third person, and typically worship the moons of their homeplanet.

Character Name: Arrkady Tsyrrkunov

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

Long story ahead, at some point while I was writing I started getting REALLY into it.

Early Life

Arrkady Tsyrrkunov was born a M’sai in a small mountain village called Shevarrditsa east of Nazira, on 17 July 2401. He had younger sisters and an older brother whom he grew up with. Despite the advancements of the Tajaran people, this little mountain town was nestled about a decade in the past as it struggled to modernize with the changing times. Arrkady spent a lot of time with his older brother, Mahmet, tilling what crops they could as well as communally helping to maintain the village. At a young age, their father was slain by an avalanche one winter, and less than a month afterwards, their mother died giving birth to the youngest daughter. Despite these loses, the Tsyrrkunov family was raised by their paternal grandfather Yefimiy, who would tell them stories about his time in the military. He taught Mahmet and Arrkady how to hunt with his old service rifle, but largely erred on the side of properly rearing the sisters, Yadirra (Older) and Nawrra (Younger). He largely pressed them into laboring on housemaid tasks such as cleaning, cooking, and sewing. Arrkady would always fondly remember his first successful hunt, when grandpa Yefimiy congratulated him on being a proper M'sai, and his brother Mahmet gave him a big hug. Times in the village of Shevarrditsa were not comfortable though. Taxes were burdensome, and the whole village were little more than serfs.

First Revolution

At the age of 19, unrest across Adhomai was growing rapidly and, influenced by his older brother Mahmet, Arrkady began to become involved in protests and meetings around the village, against their baron. These protests ultimately led to a detachment of military forces approaching the town to suppress opposition at about the time of the uprisings proper beginning. The villagers mustered their own martial might and ambushed the oncoming forces with hit and run tactics about two miles from the village's perimeter. The baron's forces were able to press their way through the oncoming fire to enter the village proper where a decisive final battle between serfs and nobles took place, only marginally ending in a victory for the peoples of Shevarrditsa. Yefimiy died in the fighting while evacuating Yadirra and Nawrra, and nearly all of the villages working aged men were killed in the fighting, making the prospect of remaining in the village completely untenable. The Tsyrrkunov family and the rest of the village moved into the wilderness surrounding Nazira, and took part in raids against noble forces in order to gain crucial supplies. The process which occurred for nearly two months was brutal, and most of the village's survivors were either killed in the raids or of exposure and starvation. Fortunately, revolutionary forces had reached the city and began the siege, and so the Shevarrditsa group joined the forces and helped take the city. Mahmet and Arrkady were made privates, and Yadirra and Nawrra became civilian auxiliaries. For the duration of the year, Mahmet and Arrkady fought with the 5th Mobile Rifle Division of the Tajaran Resistance Army, a titular title for one of the temporary rebel factions against the government. Arrkady celebated his 20th birthday in the ruins of Tampiska during his units siege of the city. He and his brother grew very close during this time, carelessly risking their lives to try and protect each other, and even risking the lives of other members in their unit to do so. Arrkady remembers these times darkly, as a time of bitter cold, ruined tatters of what was once a uniform, and the casual slaughter of his people happening all around him. Some nights, he wakes up leaping out of bed to the thought of gunfire, just as many times he had been brought out of his sleep by enemy attacks in the nights. Tampiska was hell on Adhomai for Arrkady, and conditions worsened when Mahmet was struck by two bullets from a machine gun nest during a push in the market district. Finally, a ceasefire was declared, and over time Mahmet recovered from his injuries. The Peoples Republic of Adhomai was formed, and Arrkady and Mahmet served the rest of their two year terms with the military to leave service.

Interwar Period

The Tsyrrkunov family resettled back into the ruins of Shevarrditsa and began rebuilding a way of life for themselves once again as farmers and hunters. Arrkady even became married to a young Tajaran named Ealasaid, but Mahmet could not readjust to civilian life after all that had occurred. In 2425, Arrkady found Mahmet hanging from the ceiling of his cottage. He was no longer breathing, his eyes dead and lifeless. Arrkady, as new head of the Tsyrrkunov household married off his sisters to other villagers, and was able to press on with his daily life, having two children in the process, Zaklina and Arrtyom. As a father and head of the house, he was rigid and strict, attempting to instill a sense of discipline in his children as Yefemiy had for him and Mahmet. Following the death of Mahmet, Arrkady was a much less warm person than he had been, but he was not known the be cold, rather unobtrusive as he tried to keep to himself and his family.

Second Revolution and Aftermath

In the year 2441, tragedy struck again as world war broke out once again across Adhomai. Shevarrditsa found itself on the borders of the People's Republic and the Adhomai Liberation Army. Once again, the peoples of Shevarrditsa had to muster arms to defend themselves as soldiers of the Liberation Army came marching on the town. For three hours, Arrkady fiercely lead the resistance as they attempted to reuse the tactics they had utilized in the past, however the inclusion of armored vehicles made this a perilous tactical choice, and invading forces took the town proper. Arrtyom and Ealasaid were killed in action with rifles in their hands. The battle ultimately culminating in a People's Republic artillery strike on the town, followed by a detachment of the People's 5th Mobile Rifle Division driving the invaders from their position. Yadirra and Nawrra went missing with the retreating invaders. Once again driven from his home, Arrkady visited the graves of his family after laying the recently deceased to rest, before moving to Nazira in order to try and find work to support himself and Zaklina, his daughter, a stomach too weak to continue to be involved in any more killing, and too frightful to attempt to rescue Yadirra and Nawrra. He performed a lot of labor work, but as war taxes increased he could not support the family successfully. His daughter became a prostitute in order to sustain the family. After a decade of these suffering conditions, Arrkady was able to find a work program that would support his family through NanoTrasen, and relocated the Tsyrrkunov family to New Gibson, where they now live peacefully away from the horrors of Adhomai.

What do you like about this character? I like that he's a simpleton. At no point while he was doing anything that he's done in his life had he been thinking about "the bigger picture." He's not an ideologue or a philosopher, or any sort of reputable thinker, he's merely a working man whose only goal in his entire life has been to look after his family and the people of his village. Despite everything he's gone through in his life, he isn't jaded or pessimistic. He's enthusiastic about the Republic of Biesel, living with humans, and working aboard a space station. When he was just a boy, humans were these mystical space alien empire that he heard about in the news, and now he's going to be out in the stars, away from his horrible memories, in a realm beyond even his people's gods. Is he a happy man? No, but here away from the horrors of war he can try to set up again with his beloved daughter Zaklina, and live working a comparably simpler job until death or retirement. I also very much like that I've written a massive incoherent wordwall of backstory for him, because it means I've given myself a lot of history to draw upon for stories/interactions/factors to take into account for decision making/RP.

How would you rate your role-playing ability? 9/10. I'm a completely ashamed to say it, but on this subject matter my ego is inflated to think I'm way better at RP than I probably really am.

Notes: I sincerely apologize for NOT writing a short two paragraph summary of his story. If requested by the proper authorities, I will generate a two paragraph tl;dr free of charge in the replies.

I'm really surprised to see you writing an application.

With all the writing and extracurricular stuff you do, and all the excellent directing of research, i guess i kind of figured you were already superwhitelisted for everything. I remember you teaching me when i was trrying out science, you've been here way longer than i have. I also remember you running around and singlehandedly saving everyone on the station from everything, a couple of days ago

Anything else (including abstaining) would feel wrong and disrespectful, +1 from me

godspeed ye, kitty

Mofo has impressed me more than once, twice or thrice and he's shown himself to be a valuable member of the community and a stellar roleplayer. They make science generally enjoyable and hilarious to experience.

I endorse this, though I cannot auto-accept it as I am only the acting loremaster. ;)
