canon35 Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 1. Change the vision on welding gear so instead of constantly having the black squares, they only show up when you're using a welder in hand. But you constantly have a green overlay (Like with mesons, except not a bright shade.) 2. Allow the autolathes to produce welding goggles. 3. Hitting things with the welder can cause a message saying "The welder experiences a sustained backfire!" and causes the tool to overheat and be destroyed.
Guest Complete Garbage Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Welding gear is supposed to be visually obstructive. Also, hitting things with a crowbar doesn't cause the crowbar to bend; I don't see why tools should break whenever you accidentally(or intentionally) beat things with them.
Superballs Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 I'd say let R&D produce some sort of welding goggle.
Guest Complete Garbage Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Maybe from the Protolathe at engineering 2 and materials 3 or 4.
Conservatron Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 The only thing welding needs is superior welding goggles to have a mechanical benefit over normal welding goggles. As it stands, they do literally nothing except have a different color

I'd recommend removing the welding overlay,(black tiles on outer edge, blur tiles inner edge) or having the black tiles turn to blur tiles, and the blur tiles clear, giving a wider visual range.
Nanako Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 it seems kind of odd that welding helmets are so limited, because voidsuit helmets protect your eyes from welding without any such visual restrictions i've only ever used welding goggles briefly as a roboticist. Engineers have no need of them
Nikov Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 *flips down his welding goggles* *beats you to death with a welder*
Mofo1995 Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 I'd say let R&D produce some sort of welding goggle. They already can... Sort of. Unless New Code removed it, they were able to make Superior Welding Goggles with the protolathe, but now that I think of I haven't seen it in the lathe menu in some time. Either way, I don't know about the back firing welders part, but being able to make welding Goggles with lathes would be neat.

Engineers have no need of them you can't look sexy in welding goggles and a bandana with the welding helmet or if you want to be correct, it doesn't block the engineering helmet mounted flashlight slot
