whiterabit
BYOND Key: Whiterabit Character Names: Alexis Sutton, Aaliyah Kha’Jur, Stephanie Moore, Verna Marshall, Karagh Mi’dynh, Sarah Pershing, Katie Auman, Natalya Zimmer, Sierra Gray, Katherine Isaman, Zijiri Kah’ra, Vesiki Shla’zek, Lyla Rathen Species you are applying to play: Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): One more blue skrell for the pile. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: A couple times, had some talks with Loow about things not listed as well. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Once again, I’ve found myself interested in making a couple characters based around an alien race for which I’m not whitelisted. Reading through the skrell lore, I really liked a lot of the cultural and physiological differences between them and the other races. Enough to pester Loow more than once over discord to ask him about specifics on the race which hadn’t been fully detailed on the wiki. So, unsurprisingly my reason for wanting to play this race is just a personal interest in the dynamics inherent to them. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Aside from the obvious dietary restraints, the skrell are a species with very different values to the typical human society. They have extremely long lifespans which have only been further extended with recent medical advancements, this compliments well with their culture’s emphasis on intelligence, allowing them to spend more than a human’s entire lifetime simply educating before moving into their profession. Whether highly specializing or obtaining a diverse set of skills, even the average skrell can be considered incredibly well educated by human standards. The necessity of the individual to make themselves a valuable member of the species has only been reinforced with the introduction of the genophage. Not only this, but with the difficulty of reproduction and the high sterility rate, the value of each skrell and the importance of their survival has dramatically increased. Character Name:Veriqua Les-Quelen Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs According to the human callender, I was hatched near the end of 2319, born Veriqua Les on Qerrbalak. My father, a scientist dedicated to countering the genophage. My mother, pledged to a paranoid militia, anti-synthetic, amassed only after the singularity. Unsurprisingly I was a single hatch, early attempts at reproduction had little success, I resulted completely sterile. Early years were spent with my father, attempts made to reverse sterilization in pubescence, tests were unsuccessful. This disappointed him, I cared little at the time, felt some regret towards this in my early one-hundred thirties, accepted it now. My father continued study, high hopes for reversal of the genophage. I still cared little for it, instead I accompanied my mother with the militia until my seventies. Revitalization of the space program, formation of the Jargon Federation, opportunities were opened with the navy, more official this way. Many skrell from the militia chose this, I was assigned to Quelen, a frigate. I held personal connection with many of the crew, former militia, seniority amongst them helped assign me as officer. Keep crew in order, enact higher orders, voice crew concerns, most conflict was internal, interpersonal, little combat unless as an exercise. It was enjoyable. Meeting humanity, a big moment for skrell, I was nearing the end of my nineties. Still present between many skrell of the time, a wide gap in age, obvious result of the genophage, approximate two hundred year period without reproduction. Even at my age, still young in the scale of my life, I was considered old for the newest generation. Resignations, retirements, transfer to the representatives, many skrell left wishing to study humanity. By my early hundreds I’d taken captain, my part to fill in the gaps. Often we transported representatives, many took interest in humanity, the Republic of Biesel made a popular entity of interest. I spoke frequently with humans, many working for NanoTrasen, many I grew close with, they were friends, but time does not treat humans well. Humanity appeared to mirror our interest, often I was solicited for positions by NanoTrasen, offers of wealth, opportunities in science, they offered much. Slowly I chose to leave the navy, handed Quelen to my second. I have little regret, fifteen years pass faster than expected, NanoTrasen is not bad. What do you like about this character? One thing I like about this character is how she’s adapting to human aging. For a skrell, the passing thirty or even fifty years is fairly insignificant to moderate while for a human it can be the majority of their life. I hope to put something of an emphasis on this in relation to her human relationships. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Per usual, I don’t like to speak for myself on that, I find it hard to judge myself. Feedback is present on my previous apps and any that might be given here should be more than enough to speak for or against me. Notes: A fair part of this app was written late at night, so there’s a chance I may be re-writing some of it when I can keep my eyes open. But for now I’m anxious and crazy so I’m posting it. HouseOfSynth
Although I don't know much about Skrell lore, but I have heard about a little about it. I like the backstory, it has key points in skrellian lore referanced if not involved to Veriqua's life.. Whiterabit is a great RPer, I dont think they have every broken character (at least not to my eyes) and their characters are well made and nice to interact with. No problems with them from an OOC standpoint either.. A +1 from me Link to comment
Faris
I'm going to comment regarding the applicant first. White rabbit is a person that I've always enjoyed playing with, with some of my first interactions on this server being with "Verna Marshall", and is an extremely helpful person from the CCIA side of thing, both in game and out. So in this regard, I fully believe whiterabit would make a good, or even a great Skrell player. Now regarding the application itself. I find that the answers to the questions to be well written and good answers in themselves. Second of all, what strikes me about your background story is the form of writing you use, correct me if I'm wrong, but the directness, the small but complete sentences, these qualities are part of the Skrell way of speaking, which is supported by the 1st person point of view of the story. The character itself narrating the story using the skrell speech patterns. I find this to actually be extremely well done. I'd like to give this a very strong +1, and hopefully I'm able to interact with this character or other character your planning to make. Link to comment
Catnip
Good app, good player, shown a lot of interest in Skrell and the character is detailed and interesting, not much more to say. make rabit a squish not biased in the slightest m8 +1 Link to comment
Pyrociraptor
Whiterabit is already a CCIAA, so I guess it can show his RP knowledge. Even thought Skrell's lore isn't something I don't really (Know/care, choose one) about, Its obvious that he'll be a good skrell player. (Please no warbly warbling) Link to comment
Loow
Loow here. First off, I just wanna say that I'm always happy to answer a few questions on the Skrell. It gives me an idea of what themes or details the players might like to see more of in future updates to their Lore and makes for generally pleasant conversation. Such was the case with Whiterabit here. There's quite a bit to say about your app, so I'll dive right in. I absolutely love how you chose to write the biography in the first person. The bio gives us a good peak at the character's voice. There's a sense of duty in Veriqua's words alongside some hints at her own opinions and personal convictions. The inclusion of a few choice phrases like "paranoid militia" and "my part" tell us a lot about the character in just few words. Veriqua sounds like she's just warming up to NanoTrasen. As if she was unsure about joining them (or had been considering it) for some time and is just now starting to feel that it was a wise decision. That sounds to me like a hint toward a serious internal struggle that adds a layer of complexity to what sounds like a veteran command character. Her decision to take the Federation ship's name as a name addition is also a nice touch. Depending on when she took the addition, the choice could be seen as either a sense of pride in her new ship or almost a kind farewell to pay respect to her roots in the Jargon military. One detail to keep in mind is that Tau Ceti only gained its independence from the Sol Alliance a few years ago. If your character has been with NT for 15 years, that means she would have been working with NT when the young Republic finally split off. Just a detail to keep in mind to avoid chronological timeline mess. Feedback points to other players being confident in your ability to warble as well as your RP. Let's see how Captain Les-Quelen does on station. Application Accepted. Link to comment
