[Accepted] Juani2400's IPC application

Recommended Posts

BYOND Key: Juani2400.

Character Names: Vera'Qaule Weqrr-Xeblakk (Skrell Captain), Azra Kouri (Tajara CMO), Vol-Blakk Xul-Qrr'Liax (Skrell CE), Nahla Wasem (Tajara HoS).

Species you are applying to play: IPC.

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): N/A.

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes, I have.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race:

I have been feeling interested to apply for a new species to play for a while, and while I've been looking forward to apply to other species that are not IPCs, I finally decided to apply for them, as they allow a wider range of RP possibilities and personalities that other races can't. I am not really someone who plays station-bound synthetics, and I think having access to play IPCs will actually teach me another way to RP that is not your usual organics.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

I think it is pretty clear that IPCs are supposed to not behave anything like humans. If anything, they may have certain personality traits put into their design, but that is not the usual. IPCs may have different ethics, if any, than humans and they act based off a list of priorities, or that is how I plan to play them, at least; they also do not feel pain, which may make things a bit more interesting for certain scenarios in which my initial IPC can find himself in, as a Security Officer.

Character Name: Autumn.

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

With her chassis and shell manufactured by Hephaestus Industries and her Artificial Intelligence positronic brain developed by KIR (Kinect Industries Robotics) and initially named after his series' model, HI-4821-Delta, Autumn was bought together with other three models of her series (Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter) by an old influential human, living at Mendell City (Republic of Biesel) shortly after they had bought a new residence at the outskirts of the city, to have them work as the residence's service staff.

Each unit was developed uniquely for a range of task, having them serve to full all the needs in the residence. The Spring unit would be tasked with the medical and nursing duties of taking care of their owner, as they had developed a few health issues related to their age; the Summer unit, tasked with residence's maintenance, would take care of the housekeeping duties and maintenance; the Winter unit would take the role of a butler, serving the owner and the house's residents to their desire. Autumn had been tasked with the security service of the residence.

Autumn would stand, usually, at the main entrance of the residence, in a small room built for the purpose, a security checkpoint. Autumn would, from time to time, patrol the premises, making sure that there were no risks for the residents or disabled security equipment, and would receive all the visitors at the door, controlling the access to and from the property.

After a difficult fight against the odds, the lord died. The widow, now living alone in the residence given that they had no descendants, decided to reduce the amount of staff that worked in the house, announcing three of her four IPC servants for lease - all of them, except for Summer, which stood with its owner. The IPCs didn't take long to find a new lessor; Autumn, purposed for security work, was leased by one of the many local clubs of one of the cooler neighbourhoods of the capital city, having her perform regular guard duties for the business after she had taken all the necessary permits that allowed her to do so.

Autumn worked at the club for a few months, almost a year. It was at this time in which the business was bought by chain of entertainment businesses owned by a Skrellian board of Directors. As per the group's policy, no synthetics could be employed and, thus, Autumn's lease was cancelled and returned back to her owner. The old lady, owner of Autumn, didn't take long to find another company interested for new staff to manage their recently-opened facility in one of the Romanovich cloud asteroids, the NSS Aurora, owned by Nanotrasen.

Now, after the formalisation of the leasing contract and after passing her integrity and personality checks, Autumn was slightly modified to match with the company's requirements. She was also put through the training, and shortly after, was assigned to the NSS Antlia for her cadetship. Passing the programmes was not too hard for Autumn, given her synthetic nature. Once her cadetship was completed, she was immediately assigned to the NSS Aurora, as per her contract, to start working as a full member of the Security team, as a Security Officer of level one.

What do you like about this character? Autumn, similarly to the other IPCs of her series, works from a list of priorities that lists tasks assigning them a number. This allows her to focus on more pressing tasks and ignore the rest until the first ones on the list have been dealt with. The number assigned to each tasks may vary from a number of factors: from relationship statuses to the level of danger it implies. If the level of danger is high enough, the task will never be performed to conserve integrity, and other tasks (such as calling for backup), will immediately be prioritized. I think this system may give some interesting scenarios.

How would you rate your role-playing ability? I'm not too good. A 6-7/10.

I know bugger all about IPC backstories but from what I read it seems acceptable (interesting even). More importantly lets go with the interactions I have had with the player.

As I pretty much do nothing but play in security, from what I have seen they are a very good roleplayer (stop trying to be modest with the 6/7 out of ten). The character you play (Nahla) is believable and I have enjoyed every interaction that I remember having with them.

Give this person a whitelist, they are great! (+1)

Okay I got a pretty long post here, but the tl;dr: Juani is a good at giving characters well character and gets a big +1 from me, even though I have a pretty big question at the end.

I've interacted and seen at least two of Juani's characters in action. Vol-Blakk Xul-Qrr'Liax is a pretty good CE and actually kind of fun to be around. Now I must admit there are relatively few CE's that I think are bad, but plenty I would mostly avoid. Vol is absolutely one I'd put my chars around. Unless I'm mistaken we had an interesting dialogue between my Engineering Apprentice and Vol about why my char was wearing a voidsuit while working on a camera in science. I made the comment, "Oh it's because I like the feel of them, and has nothing to do with forgetting to grab a pair of welding goggles." Vol saw what that implied and instead of berating or just letting it go, replied with, "I will give you this one, I sometimes forget my gloves." That was a small but fun little interaction.

Furthermore I've worked and seen Nahla Wasem. She is a solid HoS who in my experience roleplays escalation in a fantastic way, gives clear orders, and seems like a character. I have no doubt Juani knows how to play security and gives character to their characters!

Now to the backstory. It's pretty good actually. I like the fact these IPCs were made for a function but became unnecessary and were discarded. Having a previous job before getting with NT was interesting too. Now I would make a comment about them getting their cadetship done in the backstory, if I didn't already fully believe Juani was a competent Security player with what I've seen from Nahla. So that's not a problem.

Still I do have a question. We have quite a few Security IPCs already, a good few being shells. How will Autumn be different than the already existing Security IPCs?

Thanks for the kind words, everyone.

In regards to the question, I would probably still need to polish the character's personality, but as I described in the "What do you like about this character?" section, I think the system I intend to play her with will make the character unique, although probably not /very/ different (she's just a computer, after all).

Summarising. I honestly don't know what will be different about this specific character from other IPC Security officers, but I will surely try to make her unique, as I try with all of my chars.

When the servants were "released," what does it mean by released? Freed? No strings attached? Most synthetics rarely get the opportunity to just be allowed to up and leave and work on their own without someone calling them their property. How did this happen?

Backstory has been modified, to make her still be property of the widow, and leased to Nanotrasen.
