How long have you been playing on Aurora:Since some point this summer, may have been July or August, I think. Maybe June when I first popped on, but I started regularly coming on mid to late summer.

Species you are applying to play:Dionae

What color do you plan on making your first alien character:Plant colored.

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:Yep yep!

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race:I think the Dionae are really interesting, and I love the way they “tick”. Not to mention, the threat of wilting when thrown into darkness makes them a unique and interesting challenge from a gameplay (and RP) aspect that I’d like to try out. No wilting trees! In general, I really, really like the opportunities for RP and development that they present.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:As is generally common knowledge, Dionae are quite non violent. …And slow. I like the general overarching theme that they bring, and the quiet philosophical nature and drive for knowledge that they naturally have.

Why does this species in particular hold your interest? Much for the reasons above- I love their natural personality, their biology, and the challenges faced in having to play one.

Character Name: A Rose Amidst Gunpowder and Scattered Ashes, Facing The Red Expanse of The Flaming Skies Above ( A Rose Admidst Gunpowder for ID purposes )

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

IT’S NOT TWO PARAGRAPHS I’M SORRY I GOT REALLY CARRIED AWAY I'M SO SO SORRY

As many Dionae seem to come about in this era, Rose’s life began in the dusty back corner of a hydroponicist’s lab. This particular lab floated upon a small vessel- Not a station, but a veritable ship with a small, close knit crew. On this particular day, a strange, rusty-haired person turned to look at the little nymph as it scuttled alive from the pod, tilting his head with a mix of curiosity and amazement. He spoke a few unintelligible words to the small one. The confused nymph stuck out a small feeler, pricking from him a small sample of blood instinctually.

“Ouch… Oh, hey, you’re actually alive, little guy!”

As the little nymph grew and learned, Rose was often taken care of by a particular Skrellian scientist that was on board that shift. The nymph’s natural curiosity allowed Rose to absorb and learn quite a lot about how the station worked- How the machines in the lab functioned, and more. Mostly, this was through exuberant and excessive questioning, with outbursts of “Ooh, what’s that?” “What is that?” “What does this do?” being more than common.

The science team of three came to take a liking to Rose, becoming a sort of “Department Pet” for the time they spent as a nymph. The crew was of only fifteen, not including Rose- The captain, three scientists, a cook and the botanist, four engineers, two doctors, and three general assistants that helped out where they could. They were mostly human, with the only three exclusions being Rose, the skrellian scientist, and one of the engineers- A Tajaran maintenance mechanic. The ship was oft quiet, and went about its own business causing as little issue as it could. It was only shortly after Rose had matured that they were permanently ejected from the ship- Along with everyone else inside of it.

He was lumbering towards hydroponics to assist the botanist one morning when the ship’s floor lurched beneath them, as if they had been struck violently from a side. Lights blew out within moments, and for just a second, the ship was plunged into the darkness. The first true darkness that Rose had experienced. It was lucky for them that the botanist kept a flashlight on hand, striking up a dazed hand as the glare of the bulky blue light shot upwards. “I gotcha, big guy!”

They began to turn towards the botanist to take the flashlight and lift him up in a flat motion. Not moments after they had set the poor man on his feet, the pair of them lurched again, forcibly throwing even the heavy Diona into the wall with an unceremoniously violent jerk.

“Crrrritical atmospherrrrric deprrrressurrrrrrization, everrrryone… He does not know what the hell has hit us,” crackled the tajaran from the intercoms, “but he advises you brrrrrace forrr rrrough landing.”

The Diona slowly peered out the window, the ship beginning to fall weightless as they slowly tugged towards the planet below.

“He suggests escape pods.”

Implying they could get to them. The Diona began to float towards the jammed-open entrance of the hydroponics lab after righting the botanist again, joined by much of the rest of the crew as they made haste for their only chance at survival. Three, if not four people crawled in per pod, the already cramped space guaranteeing a snug-as-sardines fit for all. As Rose began to fasten an unconscious doctor’s harness, the ship lurched again, violently, a large explosion wracking the whole vessel. It was not a moment too soon when the pods ejected, screaming towards the earth as they rattled and shaked. For those that could see up towards the sky, it seemed as if another shuttle had collided with them mid-jump, practically fused into the side of the vessel by now. The large wreck fell towards the planet, many pieces burning off entirely from the violent re-entry. But before they could see it collide with the surface, they plunged into icy waters. The steam and bubbles hissed violently at the extreme difference in temperatures, and the pod window was obscured in white as they rapidly slowed, soon after beginning to rise back to the surface.

The four pods bobbed to the surface of the waters, and all seemed tranquil for just a moment as the feelings of relief began to wash over much of the crew. The pod hatches hissed open, and many began to clamber out, the cold water a much-welcomed embrace after the ordeal. But slowly, their attention turned towards the rich, red flames and black plumes of smoke rising in the distance from their wreck. The entire sky, painted red with fire, stood out like a glaring snap back to the reality of their situation. With internals equipped and spare tanks in tow, they began to set off as close to the wreck as they could, in hopes that the giant, flaming mass could pose as a beacon of distress for the stranded crew.

It only took hours for technicians and rescue teams to find the stranded bunch. Searching the wreckage for personal effects and possible memories, Rose, accompanying the Skrellian scientist and the botanist, came across the shattered, ashen remains of the hydroponics lab. Miraculously, small amounts of flowers and fruit were left mostly intact. The rescue teams promptly tore them from the scene, however, and it was left as but a brief memory- The now shipless crew were offered various jobs and positions with the rescuers and their respective companies, and many of them split away from each other, or simply drifted apart. Rose was signed on with NanoTrasen in fields of science, where their story now leads. Newly transferred onto the NSS Aurora, they strive to learn and grow even more, their drive for knowledge leading them to the here and now.

What do you like about this character? The backstory that I definitely went overboard with.. Er, I mean.

Rose is an interesting fellow. They’re a character I think I’m going to be able to play quite well- The backstory came together quickly and naturally, and the stalwart and quiet, but still quite curious personality just fell into place around it as I pictured what would happen. I think they’re going to be a lot of fun to play and interact with, and I hope this works out.

How would you rate your role-playing ability? 7.46 / 10, I suppose.
