Koollan
BYOND Key: Koollan Character Names: Lance Vikk Species you are applying to play: Hharar Tajara What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): RGB 90, 65, 40. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I used to play on Aurora a long time ago, definitely over a year. The rules have changed regarding races and I've definitely whitelisted at least once before on this station, but I'm unsure during which time this was. I used to play as a Tajara named Ru'rek Nizarro, of whom I would usually play as a Roboticist or Bartender. I would like to be able to roleplay as said character again, as I have in the past. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Tajara tend to refer to themselves in the third person except in circumstances where a Tajara is surrounded by human speech pattern for a large majority of their lives, altering how they speak. They also tend to speak of others in the third person, even whilst talking to them, but using second-person isn't unheard of, as it is mainly the Tajara's personal preference that comes into play during these situations. Tajara might use the first person perspective with somebody they trust quite a bit. It's also needless to say that they have tails, can use Siik'Maas and Siik'Tajr, not to mention have fur and claws, the whole nine yards. All of those aren't exactly human, so what you see is what you get - a felinoid figure with feline features. Character Name: Ru'rek Nizarro Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Ru'rek is a simple sort, if a bit boisterous. At 19, he had figured he'd been an adult for long enough to actually figure out some sort of life for him outside the confines of his Tau Ceti stationing, and pursue some type of schooling. Schooling is something he wouldn't get, but tutoring would probably be a better descriptor for it. In a dark corner of Biesel, District 6, he picked up barkeeping from an old friend from his youth, mixing cocktails and learning the ins-and-outs of liquids and thickuids (Thickuids would be thickening agents, such as cream, etcetera - you know what, nevermind). A couple of years of this passed by, and with a load of experience under his belt, Ru'rek was makin' glasses of anti-freeze fly down the table every day, anti-freeze being his signature drink. Eventually, all of this mixing got Ru'rek wondering what made certain drinks taste so much better than others, see what was on the smaller scale. Why did whiskey-cola and rum-cola taste like they did? Why did all these flavors blend like they do? Why does eating Sol-grown bananas along with Star-kist cause you to vomit? All of these questions could be answered by the Biesel Institute of Medical Sciences, surely, so there he went with a couple of month's salary and nothing else to his name. A bad idea, because they kicked him out for having no money to study. However, Ru'rek was sneaky - he'd snatch the identification of passersby and labcoat up whilst inside to sneak in some chemistry studies. Most of the time, he'd get kicked out and banned from the institute, but hey, the thing was gigantic, he could just go to the other side without them knowing a thing. So learn of chemistry he did, learning the art of both new liquids and thickuids (One of the new thickuids being phoron. Spooky stuff). What do you like about this character? He's my original Tajara character from back when Bay first got separated from main branch, and I've altered him many times to suit my current interests. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I've been roleplaying for many years. I've RPed on art sites, RPed on SS13 for countless years, and own an RP guild on World of Warcraft because I'm so invested in storytelling. Giving myself a rating would be unfair as only others can give me a numberscale, but I would say that I'm very experienced in what I do and immerse myself in my character quite a bit every time I play. Notes: I've been IPC and Tajara before on Aurora, to my knowledge. Also have adminned for Yogstation before, as well as HGStation (before its collapse). Not sure if that's relevant info, but they had RP prereqs to apply. Link to comment
Coalf
Well you'll find that you most likely won't get accepted unless you change this application. The reason we have a whitelist is for people to read the wiki, understand the lore and try to make a character fit the lore. And if you read the lore you'll discover we're COMPLETELY different from Baystation Tajara lore. From reading your app it's easy to tell that you either didn't read the lore or made a character specifically so you could avoid the lore, both are unacceptable so I recommend you do a complete rework. I understand the nostalgia you can feel towards old characters But As it stands now I cannot support this application. Link to comment
Butterrobber202
As Coalf said, it DOES kinda look like you went over the Lore's head in this app. Every catbeast app needs at least a passing mentioned of the civil war. And your character's opinion on it or lack of therefor. Link to comment
Koollan
Everything in there was from the Aurora wiki's lore, so I'm unsure. https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Biesel_Institute_of_Medical_Sciences https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Biesel https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Tau_Ceti I wouldn't say it's too far fetched for Ru'rek's parents to flee the scene as he was born and house him in Biesel without telling him of war horrors. He's an an innocent dude with innocent intentions, mostly. Being a grizzled Civil War survivor would detract from that character. Within the confines of Aurora lore, I find the app acceptable. Perhaps I should add in something along the lines of being taken away from the Uprisings at a young age and never being told much about it. He would've been born in the latter half of the first Uprisings, as he's in his mid-twenties. Link to comment
Butterrobber202
Some Pre-Story background would be great. The Civil war of the Tajara's only world and home world would impact every one of the race in some capacity Link to comment
Coalf
The issue isn't Aurora lore, the issue is the lore of said species you're applying for which you have none of. When you're applying for a species there is one thing lore overseer looks for, your understanding of said species, as it goes Ru'rek could be a human, skrell, unathi or a sentient corgi yet this background would still fit him. And that's wrong, he's a Tajara not a human, his backstory shouldn't be identical with the backstory of Steve Bingus two streets over, it should be a completely different experience. It's the reason off-planet Tajara have not been accepted as a valid whitelist since last year. Link to comment
Mofo1995
Hello! Just wanted to say I will be getting to this tomorrow. I'm very sorry for the long delay! Link to comment
Mofo1995
All Tajara whitelist applications must have some tie to the planet Adhomai. Whitelist applications are intended to demonstrate both knowledge and understanding of lore. But, the idea of someone illegally sneaking into a chem lab all the time with stolen IDs and teaching themselves chemistry, to me, seems too far fetched- and also not a good qualification to work as a chemist. Application denied. Link to comment
