AWPen Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Ckey/BYOND Username: AWPenheimer Position Being Applied For Vaurca loredev Past Experiences/Knowledge: Have managed races on the past on previous servers, done a lot of fantasy writing. Do you play Vaurca extensively? Why? As per the last two, no I do not. Perhaps I will make them more playable however. If you were chosen for Lore Developer, what would your plans be for Vaurca? I'm just going to keep it nice and simple until Vaurca actually get to a playable level again. Once the lore has been reverted and is clear again I will begin to work on expansion of the lore. Here is my plan on Vaurca. Step one, Vaurca right now is a miss match of everyones stuff. Wipe it completely clean back how how Fowl had it. Step two, expand on the background and story, why they left their planet, the different wars that lead to the destruction. Step three, expand more on the first contact with Humans and how every one felt, racism against Vaurca starts here. Explain how its starts because they are big, grotesque and ugly. Not to mention they are basically squatting on Human territory. While Biesal is the largest allowed slum there is a lot of areas where smaller groups have settled, often taken over farmlands. Step four, begin shaking up the Vaurca world a little, since they have created so much turmoil in the Humans the favour should be returned. In this cash a virus that is taking over the bodies of different Vaurca and making them almost zombie like. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DmPncD3kbfA6ZEl1pZY7r_bCQniL3-cjLr8olu-ZoMg/edit Would you embark on major or minor rewrites of Vaurca lore? If yes, why is your rewrite worth it? One the lore is rolled back and redefined I will begin to do a couple of things. People are just inherently racist towards Vaurcae, so I want to expand on why people are like this. I want to give reasoning such as stealing of farm lands, mutilation and kidnapping of Humans (By Outcasts), stealing of housing and food meant for the poorer people of Biesal. Expand on what happened to their home world, why they were forced to leave, what caused the destruction of the planet and the hard fought creation of the hive ships. Also all of the wars involved between different hives. All of this will be in detail so that Vaurca can talk more about the past of their species/hives Since I'm going back a while, I want to redefine VR into something that isn't technology related but actually a sort of biological stasis that they go through, to prepare themselves for the world in front of them. Define different implants and technological adaptations that bound have done to them (New limbs, stronger limbs etc.) I want to deeply define the past and history of Vaurca. Give something for people to write about. I always want to define whats happening right now and give them clear paths to the future. In my last application my rewrites were seen to be too aggressive so in this one I am taking a more passive approach. In the past they have been warlike due to the destruction of the planet but now they have become a mostly peaceful people just wanting to survive. I would like that to be a big idea in the front of players minds, everything Vaurca are doing is to learn about the new world around them so that they may better survive. All of this being done by the control of the unbound, having total control over bound.
Faris Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 I'll echo what I've said to your previous applications. Activity, it's essentially not there and personally you can have the best application out there but if there's no way for me or others to measure your activity and commitment, then it's all for nothing. I'm also not partial to promises of activity. I personally cannot remotely support your application at this time. For citations sake, your last log in. 2017-08-28 17:10:57
Alberyk Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 I have the same concerns as Aboshehab here. For me, it seems you are just trying to get in a position in the staff, for whatever reason it might be, even if you do not play the game, or your activity in the community as whole is nonexistant. And if I am not mistaken, you also said at some point you would work in genetics code-wise, I did not see or hear anything from that projects of yours still, which shows little commitment with any development duties you may take part.
AWPen Posted October 2, 2017 Author Posted October 2, 2017 I haven't applied three times for no reason. I enjoy lore and always have. Sure I haven't been active but that in no way will actually effect my capability to create and write lore. I've also said multiple times that getting active is no problem, no that it would matter straight away since I'll be reverting lore back anyway, so after I implement new stuff that when activity comes in.

But... If you haven't been active, you haven't even met those of us that are actively playing Vaurca now. There's about three of us. Maybe five. But the three I'm thinking of (including myself) all got our Whitelists very recently. I'm not sure I really want a dev that just sweepingly undoes all the things we've been establishing without understanding the state of the server right now.

As one of the 3-5 Vaurca players, I would have to agree. I know some changes need to be made, but I think someone who has been around and knows what's been going on would be a safer choice.
AWPen Posted October 3, 2017 Author Posted October 3, 2017 And before all the changes we had over ten players, makes sense to go back to what the majority enjoyed and work on from there to include the different play styles people want.
Conspiir Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 You can't just revert it all and expect people to want to play Vaurca again. Their interest has already waned because of lore changes, they're pretty meh about the race because of those changes, I assume. Overturning the entire lore of a race isn't something to do lightly. I want you to make sure you've really thought through whether or not people that stopped playing bug people would want to play them again because the lore was reverted or if you're just realienating people that are playing them and reducing the number of Vaurca players to zero. Have you spoken to people about the idea? You haven't been around to, and that's why I'm hesitant about this. I love Vaurca, I think they're really interesting. But I don't know you and I don't get the feeling you love the Vaurca the same way that those that play them do.
AWPen Posted October 3, 2017 Author Posted October 3, 2017 People enjoyed playing them back when it was Fowlss lore, from there I can easily expand to include the different play styles people want.
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 Hello, Thank you for your application and interest in the Vaurca species. I have to echo the concerns of the other posters that have provided feedback. In the past, activity was important but I usually tried to overlook it if an aspirant developer showed genuine interest and enthusiasm and promised more activity. Unfortunately I'm not able to continue this philosophy - a revolving door position or inactive developer is not something I want to repeat again. For managing a specific race a developer needs pre-established activity on the server to prove that they are able and willing to dedicate their time in being involved in the station and interacting with and observing the playerbase they are meant to be overseeing. I need to decline this application because of your inactivity and not because of a lack of faith in your proposals themselves. I still appreciate your interest in the species and hope that if the position opens again in the (hopefully distant) future that you will have the activity and interest to reapply successfully.
