NoahKirchner Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 Server Moderator Application Basic Information Byond Account: NoahKirchner Character Name(s): https://gyazo.com/a089a303457225ccdb677795751f5a3c AI Name(s): Been a while since I've played AI or borgs, but my borg was named Omnicron and I believe my AI was Omega, but it may have been the other way around. (I plan on playing it again soon. If I do the name will likely be A.S.I) Preferred means of contact: Discord by far, I'm normally talking in general. Noah Kirchner#6103 Age: 15, 16 in January Timezone: Eastern Standard When are you on Aurora?: Weekdays, generally after 5PM Eastern standard for a round or two, weekends generally 1-8 PM are the times that I'll be around with occasional stints into the midnight hours. Experience I was a mentor for CM way back when and i've modded some forums. How long have you played SS13?: Early june 2016 on hippiestation How long have you played on Aurora: Since january with increasing frequency and intensity. How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: I'd like to think I know a heck of a lot but, in reality, probably as much as your average regular. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: Nope, only mentoring. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: Not on here. I was perma'd on yog when I first started but got that appealed, and I've been jobbanned on CM for being a shit but those have been lifted also. Personality Why do you play SS13?: I play SS13 because I like to use my brain, there's a lot of complexity here and that makes the mechanics very attractive. I also found, through Aurora actually because it was my first HRP server, that roleplaying characters is a lot of fun. Why do you play on Aurora?: Because it's the best mix of HRP and action that I've found thus far on SS13, and there's not too much drama. What do moderators do?: Moderators ensure that all players in the server have an enjoyable experience - specifically they ensure that nobody breaks the rules and ruins someone else's experiences. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: It means that you'll be spending your time ensuring that people adhere to both the rules and maintain a proper standard of roleplay, in both their characters and their actions. Why do you want to be a moderator?: Garnacus asked people to apply and i think the extra responsibility will be neat. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: I feel kind of arrogant answering this question, frankly, but I'd like to think that I'm able to maintain my cool when it comes to stressful situations well enough to properly moderate and deal with people who may be troublemakers. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: I tend to not take insults too seriously. As far as anger, I rarely get properly angry and when that happens it's generally not for reasons pertaining to spessmans or being insulted. As far as stress goes, I don't mind it and sometimes it even helps me to perform better. Anything Else You Want to Add: I shitpost a lot in discord but I am capable of taking issues seriously if it's warranted, there just haven't been many issues where I've needed to take issues seriously on aurora thus far.
NoahKirchner Posted December 28, 2017 Author Posted December 28, 2017 Tell me how your mentor role went in CM. I'd like to think that I did an alright job for my short time there. Unfortunately, though, an ill-timed joke in OOC (Essentially saying that you can put a machete on a helmet, which when you try to do gives a message to the people around you that you bumble around and look like an idiot for trying to look cool) combined with thin ice from behavior previously on the server meant that I got the boot. (Do note that Apophis and I disagree on the exact reasoning, if I remember correctly (and please don't take this as gospel if I'm misquoting him, might even be better to ask him) I do believe that he thought that I was responding with these jokes in ahelps, but regardless, I was still previously a problem player and I assume they just didn't want to deal with me which is totally understandable) This happened a fair bit ago and I've tried, since then, to make improvements to my play style and general attitude. While I still disagree with my reasoning for being booted, I accept that I was definitely not the most well behaved player on CM and the thin ice I was on prior to my mentor role was incredibly well deserved. While I have a bit of a reputation on CM for being a problem player (I haven't gotten any notes in quite a few months, for the record, but the reputation sticks), I've still done my best to improve there and here. I'd like to think that I've improved enough to be able to handle the responsibility of being staff and, looking back and reading my old notes, a lot of my behavior was reprehensible and just made the game less fun for everyone involved.
Coalf Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 If I observed discord correctly and as I frequently post there I noticed one thing, you have a tendency of playing here for about a month, maybe two and then dissapearing for three or even four. While this job is completely voluntary and we know that IRL > Space men, playtime and the ability to stick with the server is also concerned while being a moderator as it can sap a LOT of free time.

I see your point but the situation, at least in theory, between moderation and playing is a tad different. If I plan on playing, I essentially need to have at least 4 hours squared away to be able to play, with my full attention on the game for that entire timespan. As a mod, however, I can work on schoolwork and the likes with the game open on my laptop and observe the round as need be if I don't have enough time to play. Those breaks have primarily been caused by real life, namely school, but with winter coming in and things starting to settle down, I should have a lot more free time regardless. (Apologies if things here are mis-spelled but I am both tired and typing on a phone)
Youbar Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 NoahKirchner is a good guy. The only thing he's really done wrong is take a few memes too far. He has my support, and I think he'd do well as a mod. On a side note, becoming a mentor on Colonial Marines is a lot harder than applying to become a moderator. Make of that what you will.
