BYOND Key: TG_Griffin

Character Names: Tigo Arze, Keela Roho, Ukoz Uar, Elzurus Sesk.

Species you are applying to play: Tajara.

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Dark Grey

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race:

I’m invested in unlocking and playing each race that the server offers, as not only is each race unique in appearance but also in lore and culture. I have seen Tajara played throughout the station and thoroughly enjoy their quirks and mannerisms. Initially this is what drew me to the race, but upon reading through the lore page I found that there was a lot more to them that I liked. One of the biggest selling points is the way the various ethnic groups interact with each other as well as their expected and stereotyped roles in Tajaran society and how this could be incorporated into RP.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

There are a couple things that set Tajara apart from humans, aside from more prominent racial tension seen within the species. Most Tajara have little to no formal education, while this doesn’t make them stupid it means that they lack knowledge that humans, and many races would consider to be second hand. Tajara are highly religious, with their religion influencing heavily on how they behave. There are physical differences that are prevalent, Tajara are less affected by the cold then humans, a nod towards the conditions on their homeworld of Adhomai.

Character Name: Ra’amiz Kondrati

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

Youngest of three, Ra’amiz was born December 17th, 2431. He was runt of the litter and born only hours after his older brother Tsezar. Growing up in a small Zhan-Khazan village located in the mountains just outside Trizar, Ra’amiz and his older brother were regaled with many tales of the first uprising by his father and while Tsezar only saw wanton destruction and devastation in the tales, he saw valour, glory, and brave Tajara fighting for what they believed in. This attitude towards conflict never left Ra’amiz and he was often seen with veterans, trading his help in their day to day life for a tale or two. His father, a prominent logger for the village, brought both Ra’amiz and his older brother into his business when they became old enough. Ra’amiz was hesitant to work the life of a logger, he emulated Rredouane and as such longed for the life of a warrior.

At the age of sixteen Ra’amiz departed from his father's profession, leaving his family behind to join the Grand People’s Army. For several years he trained and ran menial tasks before, in 2451, he was thrust into true combat. The death of President Al’mari and subsequent wrath of his brother brought the rise of the Liberation Army and he was one of the many called to arms against them. It was what he had been hoping for, a chance at glory, or so he thought. A year into the fighting and Ra’amiz was released to recover from injuries he sustained through a particularly violent skirmish. During this time his father, falsely accused of a crime due to his Zhan-Khazan heritage, was publicly hung by Malik’s new regime. The death shook him greatly and this coupled with the horrific experiences the war provided disconnected him from his ideals on conflict, war, and ultimately causing him to desert the Grand People's Army. Ra’amiz fled back to his village, though by that time his family had moved on due to constant Liberation Army raids. Spending the next few months following breadcrumb trails he travelled inland in search of his family, eventually the trail lead to Nal’Tor.

His reunion with his family, though happy, was brief. Work within the city was more abundant than in the war-torn countrysides and as such it wasn’t long before Ra’amiz and his brother found themselves separated and swept into different fields of work. Ra’amiz, with the background of a soldier and build of a Zhan-Khazan, was brought into the field of personal security for a local store owner. However, upkeep for the store increased as the war progressed and the owner, in a bid to save his store and any potential profits, sold Ra’amiz's working contract. Other workers contracts were also cashed in and he was one of a handful who had their contracts sold to NanoTransen, there he began his career with the mega-corporation working initially as a security officer for the company’s planetary assets before eventually being moved to human-space.

What do you like about this character?

The characters journey is one of my favourite aspects of this story. Growing up as this starry-eyed child with a romanticized notion of battle which influenced the journey into his adult life. It wasn’t until he experienced it first hand that realised how grimy and awful it really is. This lead to him reevaluating what was most important to him and in turn to him seeking out a family he very well could have lost to the regime he had initially fought so hard for.

How would you rate your role-playing ability?

7/10

Notes:

This was a collaboration between myself and Toska, who’s character is Tsezar. (Permission was granted by Mofo) This whitelist was a thought experiment of both writing a backstory that's not only intertwined but also shows two different perspectives. I’d love some feedback, good and bad!

Popping in to confirm that it is a collaborative effort, and that we did get a lore dev's ok to do this. We took two characters who were related and shared similar situations and attempted to show two different views to the events unfolding around them.

+1 because he's a better roleplayer than he gives himself credit for. He stays in character, doesn't let IC bleed into OOC or vice versa, and shows a good understanding for lore when interacting with others.

I've met Griffith and am glad to say his Unathi are one of the few I've actually managed to keep a consistent dialogue with about something else than a clan or tragic backstory.

Seeing that Toska helped with this makes me also happy as I know Toska is also a quality player.

BUT

Always, always the last point is skimped on, HOW did he get to NT?

"Eventually he got to NT,"is a bit of an understatement, while thre are many recruiting facilities that doesn't mean everyone gets recruited.

I'd appreciate if you covered that a bit more to finish up that ending, but otherwise it's a good application but it's always with those ending sizzling it out.

Otherwise, great application, history is on point and I trust you fully with the whitelist.

They play excellent and believable characters. I have enjoyed all of my interactions with Griffin. This application and the effort it represents shows how much thought they put into their characters. +1

I wasn't particularly happy with the ending either...

SO! I've gone and touched it up a little, thanks for the feedback!

How exactly was Ra’amiz Kondrati sold to NanoTrasen? Slavery is illegal in the PRA.

I was under the impression Malik was still selling Zhan-Khazan etc to NanoTransen due to this exert in the wiki:

"His brother and vice-president Njadrasanukii Hadii quickly assumed the office of the presidency and immediately passed brutal laws that punished Zhan-Khazans and 'subversive elements'. NanoTrasen was invited back to Adhomai and menial workers were sold en masse to NanoTrasen workplaces while the rights to the bountiful natural resources of Adhomai were sold off to NanoTrasen."

However if that's not the case, the issue of him being sold can easily be fixed to his contract/writ of work that he had with the store owner was sold to NanoTransen.

Yeah the writing there was a bit metaphorical. NT does pump money into the PRA in exchange for workers, but the workers aren't strictly slaves. Maybe in the abstract sense of belonging to a totalitarian government and having few liberties, but the transaction described here is that the worker and his government gets paid if the worker decides to shuttle off to work for NT. Just fix that one detail in the application and everything else is good enough to go.

Ah, I understand. I thought it was more of a literal: "We're selling them, they have no rights." Either way, its been fixed up now with his contact being sold off.

Hey! That works pretty nicely. It's still the same effect- he's being sold, but the contract element to it fixes it up nicely so that he doesn't come off as a de jure slave. Application accepted.
