Goret Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Hi. I recently started playing science, orienting myself in robotics. The problem is, as a lab assistant, we have access to everything but.... The robotics lab. This is a problem for players who want to get started in this area without taking the Roboticist slot directly. So here's my suggestion: Create a Robotics Assistant role, which would remove access to the R&D lab and instead give access to the robotics lab. Because it's nice to ask for new access to the HoP/Captain, but when both are not here, we wait right in front of the lab impatiently for a real Roboticist to give us a guest pass to access the lab, and its getting really annoying.
Synnono Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 I've always thought that Lab Assistants should have access to that lab like the rest of the old Exodus science wing (excluding toxins maybe, to avoid maximum grief). I'd be more supportive of that than of making a new job role. I know many of us hate adding more alt-titles here, but if the access is changed, maybe 'Robotics Assistant' could be one for Lab Assistant to signify the difference?
LordBalkara Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Thing is, on the topic of roboticist, two are rarely ever needed and usually just step on eachother's toes. So I could see this as a replacement for one of the roboticist jobslots, so we get a robotics training role and have less issues where robotics is overstaffed.
Bauser Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 I had always assumed lab assistants had robotics lab access - they really should. This functionality is important because a lab assistant would realistically specialize in a field just like anyone else who works in science, so disallowing them from entering robotics means disallowing the existence of interning/training roboticists. There's no good reason for this limitation, as-is. Yes, it's true that the roboticists proper don't typically need an intern, but these assistant roles don't exist to be any more helpful than their mentors - they exist because it's realistic and opens a lot of doors for new players or new characters to transition into the bigger roles. And that's beside the RP aspect of it, which is similarly important - allowing people to play the character and role they want.
ben10083 Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 I say we do NOT make a Robotics Assistant job, but instead allow Lab Assistants to have robotics access, robotics can barely handle two people working there as is.
