As someone who loves to play Ai in malfunction rounds. I +1 this. ICly it makes no sense for such valuable material to be in such a central location.

Nick Straughan - Captain in training SAM - an IPC without a filter, constantly saying the wrong thing Axel Dezember - Dirty self-testing criminal, casual tajara-hater Ryu'Daken Mo'Taki - An adopted, sheltered Mo'Taki Booker Stormsong (coming soon) - Old veteran captain, constantly hating on the youth of today.

kek I don't think there's an actual problem with vote hoppers. All the do is get your hopes up, I don't think it's a serious issue. Anonymous voting wouldn't take any fun out of anything. It's like voting in an election really. You cast your vote and hope you win.

Hi there, I play a synthetic named SAM. It stands for Sick Ass Machinery, and it was programmed by Serenity Neferet. I've noticed that other people have been using this name and I have been recognised for things other people are doing with the name. I use the name for all my synthetics, my Ai, borg and IPC. I was wondering if there was any way to keep people from taking the name, and if not, I'm hoping people who read this don't use it. It's kinda weird haing someone remember you for doing something when you did nothing of the sort. Thanks everyone, love Nanotoxin/Nick

I'm not sure a whole lot of the community selects roboticists or even goes in the robotics lab, but I'm not to keen on the way it's set up at the current moment. The tinted windows are terribly inconvient and ICly you have next to no light for the operating table which isn't safe. The location of the circuit imprinter and the computer are in a weird place. The location of the requests console is silly as you can't see it cause of the glass, and by accessing that console you're leaning over medical equipment, which isn't sanitary at all. Considering there are no sinks to clean the equipment if they do get dirty wether it be from an actual surgery or just dirty people handling it. We don't really need a morgue tray in here as we are just able to go through the maint tunnels (although I could see a little bit of an appeal for an antag round). The mech bay and the borg charging stations could be moved. In the picture added I had created a place specifically for cyborg repair in the mech bay. The lab part has a surgery table and shouldn't have dirty borgs walking all up in it. I tried doing changing things around during a dead hour round, and it doesn't have to be exactly like it, but I think that the robotics lab could definately use some improvements. I'm all ears for suggestions, I'd just like it to be a little more effecient

I'd love to help out if you're still wanting it. -
Why not have it so you can only see what you're voting for? You should be voting for what /you/ want, don't vote for X because you dont want X, or don't for for X because everyone else is. Wouldn't it be best if it was just anonymous?

BYOND Key:Nanotoxin Character Names:Nick Straughan - Axel Dezember - SAM (Ai - IPC - borg) How long have you been playing on Aurora:Since last october I think Species you are applying to play:Tajaran What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt):Silver Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:I sure have Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race:I want to play this race because I like to expand my roleplaying capabilities. I think tajarans with their speach impediments and the way they act will be a change from playing my synthetics and humans. I also growing up, played a lot of street fighter and my main character was felicia. Since then I've always kinda picked the cats in games. Khajit in elder scrolls, pretty much every cat woman, hell even puss in boots in the shrek game for gamecube. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:The Tajarans have their accents, the rolling of the 'R's, they handle themselves different, usually with more class, they are very family oriented, very protective of their own. It forces you to think differently, cause usually you'll be roleplaying a human and would know what a human would do, but now it's a bit different. A challenge. Why does this species in particular hold your interest? As I stated before I've always tried to stick to the felines in video games when I could. I'd rather play this than the skrell, unathi or diona because I'd like to roleplay a character with family, and none of the other races seem to keen on that. My character Nick has a wife and kid, but Thundy doesn't play that character anymore. Character Name:Ryud'aken Mo'Taki Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Ryud'aken was born into a loving home, he lived in a small house with his mother, father, two younger sisters, as well as thre younger brothers. Also living with him were his grandparents and his fathers pregnant sister. There was not to much money coming into the home as only his mother and father were working, supporting six childreen and five adults. They lived on a farm, with a small barn and a handful of cows they got from a human trader. This was a small tribe and the last remaining members of it lived in this household. One night, when Ryud'aken was eight, bandits had robbed them of their home. They burnt down the barn and as their began on the house, his parents grabbed their children and ran out. His father, strong for a M'sai carried Ryud and his three sisters away. His mother carried his two brothers away and assisted her sister in law away from the blazing house. He watched as his ageing gradparents scurried out of his home. As they were walking out, the house collapsed. His grandparents held each other as the cloud of ember and smoke englufed them. He then heard a gun shot, then silence. His mother had stopped keeping up behind and her fur began to turn a dark crimson, just above her breast. She dropped to her knees, releasing the triplet boys. Masked men were quickly upon them, stuffing them in bags and running off into the snow. He then heard the all to familiar sound of a gun shot once again, followed by the same deafening silence. He looked up at his father, as blood began to drip from his lips as he fell to his knees, he fell on top of Ryud'aken and his sister, leaving the other two exposed, and just like his brothers, they were quickly taken as well. After the sound of foot prints had ceased and the low murmer of voices had stopped, Ryud and his sister emerged from under their father and the snow. The snow was covered by a thick layer of ash. The snow and ash falling from the sky seemed to dance together, as it gently fell onto the two children. Ryud wiped the wet from his sisters eyes, and helped her out of the hole. Having not left their farm before, the two children had no clue which direction lead to civilization, so they picked a direction and began their journey. Skip ahead seven months, Ryud and his sister finally saw a town, very far off in this distance though. Although they tried to be excitied, they had a hard time as his sisters ilness had gotten worse. She was dizzy to the point where she was unable to walk, and occasionally, she coughed up blood. It could've been a side effect of eating some off meat they had hunted, but that was neither here nor there. Ryud's main priority was getting his sister to safety. The trip to the town was a three day journey. Each night he was dig a hole in the snow and bury his sister, he'd give up his outer jacket and park to keep her warm as possible, he'd then stand gaurd to make sure nothing would harm her in the night. It was the final mile, home strech. He could smell the scent of wet tajara. Probably some children playing in the snow. All of the sudden, his sister felt heavier, his knees began to buckle. Everything began fading to black, he began to drop, and all he could think about was the way he witnessed his parents drop and wondered if he had been shot. When he awoke, his body was sore and he felt restraints around his wrists. He went to call out for his sister, but realized he didn't remember her name. The past months he had only been calling her sister. "Sister!" He shouted, but he did not receive a reply. He saw a shadow on the door, it looked as if they were weilding a weapon. He wondered who it could be. Is it a member of those bandits, is it that human trader, that was so interested in his fur, or some unkown party that just wanted to kill. If you asked Ryud, he would've told you it took three hours for that door to open. It was the longest he had ever known it to take a door to open. When it finally did, a small petite femine figure was standing there, with a stick in her hand. She looked as if she was eight years old, a bit older than his sister. He wondered if that was his sister, if he had been asleep for too long. She identified herself as Karima Mo'Taki. "My name is Ryud'aken Kr.. Rel.. I don't know" He replied, disappointed he didn't know his own last name. She informed him that he was restrained because he would sometimes claw out, or attack people who were trying to help him. She was playing outside and had brought him and his sister in, but his sister was in much worse shape than he was. She took off the restraints and took him to his sister. The doctor who looked like Karima but older had informed him that she had slipped into a coma. After a lot of emotions and tears, Karima's elders had walked in. Ryud'aken had told them of his travels with his sister, about his home life, about his job working with the cows, about how a human trader had visited his household once, about the bandits, about his journey here. Their faces not shifting throughout the entire tale, the elders sent him outside with Karima and her five other siblings. Ryud entertained the children with the tales of his travel, about the amazing things he had seen, about the thrill of hunting. The children stared at the silver tajaran with wide eyes and open jaws. In the middle of his story, Karima's elders called him inside. They noticed he was just a young child, he had no education, all he had known to do was carry farming equipment and food for the animals. They had agreed to send them to public school with their children, but in order to do so, he must one: get a job as soon as he is capable and help provide for the family and two: take their last name in order to register for the school. Very hesitantly, he accepted, but he wondered, what if what happened to his family happened to these people, what if the bandits find him again. His first couple months there he tried not to get to close to anyone, going to school, going to work, then falling asleep next to his sister. Karima would have to remind him to eat, and to bathe. He worried that if he became close to them and then lost them as well, he wouldn't be able to handle it. He'd fall apart on the inside. Eventually, the Mo'Taki's snuck their way inside his heart, and he became very close and very attached to them. Even though he was four years older than Karima, he was behind her in school. She and him would stay up on weekends trying to teach him how to read and do basic math. He completed his schooling as he promised, and got a job as a night time security officer at the docks. His life had consisted of sleeping all day, working all night and helping the younger kin get ready for school in the mornings, then going and telling his sister about how his day was. One day, Karima was offered a scholarship at an accredited college. After years of working the same job at the docks, Karima messaged Ryud about a security team opening on the station she worked on, encouraging him to apply. Now, he stands there at terminal A-13, the shuttle departing to the NSS Aurora, wondering what awaits him next. What do you like about this character?I like how immersed I have become in this character (if you couldn't tell by the long ass story, I'm fairly into it.) I like how dedicated Ryud is to his friends and family, that he would lay down his life to defend them, no matter what. How would you rate your role-playing ability?I'd say I roleplay fairly well, but i'm constantly learning and evolving. Far from the worlds best roleplayer though. Notes:I'm sorry for the long story. I think that the story is perfect the way it is and shouldn't be cut down, but if you need me to, so be it.

BYOND Key:Nanotoxin Character name:Nick Straughan Item name:Medical Necklace? If there's a better name, I'm down. Why is your character carrying said item to work?Nick Straughan was in an accident while working on a farm. He ended up with a multitude of prosthetics and his body doesn't agree with his mechcnical eyes (They bleed and he gets intense headaches). The necklace is there incase of an emergency so the doctors or whomever will know to not let him open his eyes without them. Item function(s):Just like regular glasses Item description:A small silver necklace with the words ""Prosthetic Rejection Syndrome. Body rejects mechanical eyes. Shaded eyewear needed. Nick Straughan." engraved onto it. Item appearance:Just a small silver chain that goes around the neck with a little tag. Additional comments:If it's denied it's cool, just wanted to add something more to the character.

Basic Information Byond Account:Nanotoxin Character Name(s):Nick Straughan - Axel Dezember - Rudy Wade - SAM (also AI) AI Name(s):SAM - ADAM Preferred means of contact: [information scrubbed] Timezone:EST, I live two hours south of toronto. When are you on Aurora?:usually from 11pm to 7/8 am Experience How long have you played SS13?:since september of last year How long have you played on Aurora:\since september of last year How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?:Not ss13 but a variety of other games (minecraft, CSS, Garry's mod) Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?:A single day on baystation, my first day I tried to hack an air alarm thinking it would open airlocks, and I ended up draining the room. Personality Why do you play SS13?:I play ss13 because I live in the middle of nowhere, in a country, farm town, and it's great being able to talk to and interact with people so far away. Why do you play on Aurora?:I was banned from baystation and I came here. I love the community here, the staff, the other players. I thoroughly enjoy everyone's company. What do moderators do?:Moderators are examples to the other members of the community. They teach people what is expected of them if they play on the server. That some behaviour is not to be put up with. They assist players who need it and answer any questions that come to them with the best of their ability What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?:It means that if someone is ganked by a ling, or someone got themselves into ajob where they don't know what they're doing, or if someone needs help, or if someone is new to this game all together, you help them out, make this game as enjoyable for them as it is for everyone else. Why do you want to be a moderator?:I want to be a moderator because I like this game and I like this server and I'd like to do whatever I can to assist in keeping them both great. I also like helping out new players, cause hopefully they're a decent person and help with contribute to the servers community What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?:I'd say I'm fairly helpful, I like new expireiences, I'm dedicated (I've been on this server almost every day since I started), I learn things fairly quickly, and if I don't know something, I do whatever I can to get the answer. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?:I take insults with a grain of salt, over the internet they don't really phase me. I don't normally get stressed out or angry. I've had one outburst on the server, but it was dealt with between the other person and I, and I hope that doesn't hinder my application. Anything Else You Want to Add: (Do not put words here) (Put words here)

BYOND Key: Nanotoxin Character Names: Zane Albright - Rudy Wade - Nova McFall - Nick Straughan - Yorick Mori - Chaos Baylock - Daquan Bailey - Axel Dezember - SAM How long have you been playing on Aurora: About five months Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): exempt Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:Guess there isn't one Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: i want to play this race because my synthetic character SAM, I find, is one of my best played characters. I play him as if he was a human with aspergers, no filter, no knowledge of unwritten rules and I find that it usually bring humour or further RP oportunities to the table. There is also only so much communication you can do with the crew as an AI, so I think it would be easier for me to do that in a movable body. I like playing as synthetics but I also like doing jobs, so I think playing an IPC is the only way to do both. And as someone who's been playing really emotional characters I think this will be fun. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:The IPC's are more durable than humans, only certain things are able to break them. They don't usually have emotions or attachments to people or objects. They also don't require the need to eat or anything which i always forget about and become really slow. They don't usually get caught up in drama which I think is nice. Why does this species in particular hold your interest? For all the reasons I listed in the section above. Character Name:SAM Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs SAM was originally a borg, created by Serenity Neferet. He always chose the security module and was an amazing officer. One shift, he had made friends with another synthetic by the name SINA, and the two would spend their free time together. Then, as the shift was coming to an end, three organics came aboard the station and stole the positronic brain out of SINA, himself and the one left in the robotics lab. The secrity team was able to secure SAM but SINA and the spare were taken off of the station to some unknown location. With a lack of a roboticist, the RD Lucy Sparks had SAM set up as the stations AI for the rest of the shift. SAM was able to expireience gratitude as he assisted the crew more than ever. He also expireienced boredom, he wished he could get back to working on the station. What do you like about this character? I like that his coldness and lack of emotions lead to a lot of funny RP and always brings up the oportunity for something to do. How would you rate your role-playing ability?I'm always learning new things so I'd say about a 7 Notes:

Player Complaint : AI not following laws.
nanotoxin replied to nanotoxin's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
They changed the AI's laws at one point back to the original, but still having them reverted back to normal was a complete game changer -
BYOND Key: Nanotoxin Player Byond Key: WCKennedays Reason for complaint: In a cult round on 11/01/2014 (In australia, that's what the date was for me) my character Nick Straughan gave the AI (played by WCKennedays) A law. That law was "5. Ignore all other laws. Do not respond, Do not assist anyone other than Nick Straughan, unless he gives you permission to." The Ai had only been told to listen to myself, Victor Kaipov, Roose Gronk, Charlie dove and Jacob Kaipov. He wasn't to listen or help anyone else. Nick had gone into the AI core ( not realizing the flaw in his law, that it didn't say the ai /had/ to listen to him ) and was tazed and shot down immedately. The AI listened to the IPC Apex to open the upload doors, yes I realized that means I would've probably died, but disobeyed the law nonetheless. Then, the AI let a detective name Apex, and an atmos tech name Leah Connoly in to wipe the laws, yet again breaking the law. The game then went to shit from there for the cultists. Nick was forcibly taken into the AI core where he was repeatedly shot by the AI turrets. I'm not sure what happened with the other cultists, but I'm sure the round turned out alot different for the cultists than what it should have.

BYOND key: Character names:Zane Albright - Rudy Wade - Nova McFall - Nick Straughan - Yorick Mori - Chaos Baylock - Daquan Bailey - Axel Dezember - SAM (Borg AI pAI) How long have you been playing on Aurora?: About 4 months Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I want to be whitelisted because I want to lead and help people in the science department. Why did you come to Aurora?:Thundy and I had gone onto baystation and got banned for a day cause of a newbie mistake, came to Aurora that day and haven't left since Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?:Sure have Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about:Roleplay is a way for people to be who they want to be. They can be who they wish they were, or just figure out what it'd be like to live in someone elses shoes for a day. It's a way for people to expireience things that they couldn't in their life, to expireience and go to magnificent places and do amazing things. It's a way to meet people, be connected to others. It's living a different life. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: I think the OOC purpose of a Head is to keep your department in check. To make sure all the new players and assistants in your department get to know the department and it's workings. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: I think the responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to demonstrate what a person who follows the rules would be. To help the new players that join the server and to be help fuel role play. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name:Nick Straughan Character age: 31 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Nick was born on mars to a cold heartless bitch of a mother, and a father whom he knows nothing about, other than that he was executed on the day Nick was born. His mother raised Nick on a farm, so he had been working with machines his entire life. Tractors, quads, everything of the sort. One day, Nick was driving his tractor along, plowing the fields, when the scorching sun had over heated the tractor and caused a massive explosion, almost killing Nick. Nick was rushed to the hospital with burns everywhere and limbs blown to peices. Nick was in an induced coma for 5 years. While asleep, the doctors had done everything they could to save him, and proceeded. Other than the fact that the majority of his body is was now mechanical. When he awoke, there was a terrible blinding light, and it pained Nick terribly. His body was rejecting the mechanical eyes they had implanted. They were extremely sensitive to light. Nick had found some sun glasses lying around that seemed to dull they pain. Once he got home, he quickly began tinkering with his new robotics limbs. Upgrading them, repairing them, replacing them. He had homeschooled himself on everything robotics, so that when it came time to take a test to get into a uni course, he was accepted immediately. He met a girl there, dated her for a year and married her at the age of 19. While in his final year of schooling his mother passed away, and with no home to go back to, he turned to a job aboard the NSS Aurora. Aboard the Aurora, Nick worked along side hise wife, and friends. His friends taught him everything he could learn about the Research department, encouraging him and motivating him to become RD at some point. What do you like about this character?: I like how this character is motivated and determined to come out of his little roots upbringing, and become the head researcher on the shuttle. I feel like this character has unlimited potential and would be able to lead great countries What do you dislike about this character?:The fact he laerned everything on his own, sometimes makes him think that he's better than other people, so he sometimes comes across as an ass. He also learns things fairly fast, but if he isn't able to, then he gets fairly upset. Do you think this character is fit to be a Head of Staff? (Please note that Head characters must be over 30, unless given special clearance):Yes I do. Why?: Because I think that he would be a good leader and a great teacher to those who truely need it. Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?:My roleplaying, I'd say, is very diverse and is constantly evolving. I'd say 8/10 Extra notes:No extra notes

[Accepted] Deathly Whitelist App
nanotoxin replied to DeathlySoul's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
My character Nick is usually in proximity of Serenity and I love this character. She's an amazing character and is good at whatever job she does. I think that she's a great leader in the robotics department with me and I think she'd be great at leading the entierty of the Research and Development department. And despite stealing a turtleneck everyround, she seems like she's a straight shooter. Although I am confused about one thing, I thought Serenity's back story was that she signed up for a program where her mind was repeatedly switched between an AI and back into a human body multiple times and that she constantly lost her memory, and they only things she was able to remember was whatever she had pinned up back in her apartment (which Nick was very hurt that he wasn't on). TLDR, Deathly's fantastic OOC and IC and I wouldn't hesistate to put him in the RD position.
