  1. I like! But may I ask why orange and blue in particular? Any kind of symbolism? Or are the colors important in the moon lore? Just curious!
  2. God this is such a good idea. Plz. I would use it more often if it was like this.
  3. I do have a strange bug? to show! When washing the tiles with soap, the grey gets washed off like it's dirt! Wild.
  4. I've known Eddy for a little while now (Two years since February!! omg!!) On a different RP game, his characters played in major faction positions THREE TIMES (head of a city two times, military leader once), and even though that is roleplay-based, it still showed that he had some understanding of leadership and how to carry himself as a player guiding that character. These positions had him leading very large populations and keeping tabs on day-to-day happenings, as well as issuing punishments and various other management tasks (these were no small feat on a server with 100s of people in a persistent world with battling factions and some of the worst OOC bleed I've ever witnessed. Leadership positions were brutal.) OOCly, Eddie was always level-headed, didn't hold grudges and was willing to talk issues out with people. He's always been cool af, even when our characters were on opposite factions - he really never let OOC bleed affect his decisions or emotions. Make him a mod, straight up! +1
  5. Hi Everybody! I sort of wanted to share this less as an outright suggestion to be changed right away (because it's a ton of work), and more as a gauge of how possible it would be to implement these ideas or start to include them. I will try to make how I explain things as simple as possible. In my real life, I am a plant scientist. I actually do make plant transformations that do all kinds of cool stuff, like glow! It's a lot of proof-of-concept work. My first real round as Xenobotanist, I made potatoes that could be multi-harvested. I was so proud of myself, and taking notes about how I did it! I even tested to potatoes by grinding them and comparing them and eating them, just to make sure they really were a potato. Excited, I delivered this potato to the kitchen and the gardener, and then asked for ideas on what would be an 'ideal' plant for them to have. Some ideas were like, "spicy tomatoes!" or "Chantarelles with more nutriments to make a better soup!" I thought, wow, this is pretty cool, and kind of a fun concept. Why didn't anybody ever play this job...? And then I found out the genes were re-randomized every round. Womp womp... I can understand the reason *why* it is like this - it's research, after all, so you're supposed to do discovery. But it's still a little rough, and starting at square one makes the "dump mutagen on plants until they wriggle into monsters" more appealing. So, I had a 'there's got to be a better way!' moment, and considered how my real work could essentially be gamified to make Xenobotany more 1. useful to crew (instead of just making danger plants), and 2. enjoyable for the player, feeling like you're doing something productive. Here is the idea I have for a general brainstorm and flow. General Ideas: - In my mind, the purpose of science is to research things and, if possible, generate 'deliverables'. That is, items that can be of use to whoever has the interest. In this case, the biggest use would probably be to support hydroponics in enhancing their yields or making things easier for them. It could also be useful in making medicinal components or whatever, but I don't view this as a major focus. - Gene constructs should be buildable like in real life. For example, in my work, when we need to construct a gene, we literally use a program that helps us know what components should be involved. (Picture included of irl program): ) The potential idea flow of the job (based on IRL plant transformation): 1. Build a gene from 'puzzle pieces' (Read the 'making a gene' section below for what I mean by this). You use a computer program or machine in game to predict which two or three 'pieces' need to come together to get the gene of interest, and what percentage chance you have of success. 2. You have to introduce the constructed gene to bacteria. irl, we introduce the gene to the bacteria and zap them with a little electricity, which causes them to take in the plasmid/gene. 3. You have to grow that bacteria on a petri dish. irl, it would be grown with selective media that would kill off any bacteria that didn't have the gene construct. However, this seems a little too complex for right now. 4. You take a bit of bacteria once grown from that dish and put it into liquid media to make liquid culture that needs to be incubated in a shaker. The purpose of this is to make A LOT of the gene! 4. You have to 'infect' your plant somehow. You can just pour the grown liquid culture into the tray like a fertilizer. IRL, we dip the plant flowers into the bacterial culture and expose it to a vacuum. 5. Then maybe only 1 out of 5 of the fruits you harvest will have your gene of interest. You have to scan to find it, and then make seeds from that specific fruit. IRL, it's more like 1 in 1000 seeds have the gene of interest, and we have to grow them on special media that kills any plant without said gene. Too complex for Spacemans. Making a gene example: - You select your gene construct "Multi-harvest" - You select the plant in question "Potato" Then it gives you possible components* you can put together to make a gene that might do that. *(Special chems [maybe in a vial rack or something] that when combined, give you the target gene. The names can be like A1, or B4, or if you want to get fancy/realistic, PYR1, or COR23. You may also be able to extract these chemical components from another plant) And you mix and match, say, up to 3 different components, and the computer spits back at you the percentage chance of getting at least 1 fruit that will have your gene of interest. Maybe certain genes are easy, only need 2 components, and the percentage of getting at least 1 fruit is way high. Maybe certain genes are way harder, need 3 components, and the percentage can be smaller. Anyway, that's my idea. Thanks for reading! If I knew byond code like the back of my hand, this would instantly become my personal passion project LOL But alas... I only just figured out how to get a new pair of shoes into a loadout. I would love to talk more about the difficulty of actually making the potential flow work through the code. I'm curious what the hardest part would be code-wise.

  6. So, the last round (Morph Blob Aelia) La Villa actually showed that she could take charge in a difficult situation. As the chemist, CMO dead, Aelia dead, and surgeon trying to drink his suffering away, Rei basically became the medical leader and worked to save people after folks were being shot/attacked, as well as forced the surgeon to sober up so he could do surgery safely. In general, La Villa plays a lot of different folks and they are all very good and different! Love that for her. +1
  7. I like both of Hep's Domi fellows, especially the Kazhkz. Fun to play with, they come out looking for you, communicative and pleasant. +1!
  8. I have only really met Wolf Arges (and TAKMAN, briefly), but he was an engaging character and I noticed he does try to go around and speak to people. I think that kind of nature is important for a head of staff. He is also a fun roleplayer, and talking to his characters is generally an interesting interaction. +1
  9. +1 I believe I remember Magisterium from another server, and he was a good robit. It's nice to have AI players, plus I enjoy the ALL CAPITALS LOGICAL THINKER AI style.
  10. Hi guys! Moontruther, when I searched the logs of the round, I did not find any words that contained "Muslim", "Islam", or "Islamic". On top of that, I didn't find any other keywords one might use of the Islamic faith, or any indication that your character expressed his beliefs in a way that might justify his expression to order others to worship Allah. If the character is not Muslim, there's no reason to say it. If the character is Muslim, then you need to approach it with sincerity and do some honest research on the Islamic faith before taking it onto a High RP server. However, there was also this: [04:05:22] bVr-azHz PDA: Mark Price (PDA: PDA-Mark Price (Security Officer)) sent "Allah is not a crew member, he is a pet." to PRIMARY ADMINISTRATOR (AI)" To put it plainly, that tells me that indeed you were doing it for meme value. In fact, the way you opened this complaint indicated that you were somehow concerned that those of the Islamic faith may be offended by Queen's actions, but this very log indicates that you were being offensive in the first place. On top of that, I will add, that I feel a Muslim player would not outright tell an AI to "Praise Allah", because that's a direct way that Muslims around the world are caricatured-- as mindlessly trying to get everyone to follow their own faith. No, Allah is not a meme, and Queen definitely does not think that. You using the name of Allah in this round was definitely just being a disrespectful meme.
  11. The issue was not that you needed to do more-- it was that you potentially needed to do less. The situation is far more grey than "You shouldn't have or should have done it." I thought perhaps you acted out of line, but decided to give you the benefit of the doubt since your intentions were good. A number of people felt you acted out of the place of the warden, and so as a precaution, I was letting you know to be more wary about leaving your post in that job in the future. It was a formality at best, and meant to be the closer of the ticket. Literally a gentle reminder. However, you decided to be indignant towards me being completely soft on you and then proceed to say "I did everything right... I will continue to play the way I have played this round." I considered not even placing a note until that line. In fact, I don't really see how you thought saying that would help you or make the situation better at all. If you cannot agree that the Warden's place is the Brig and the Armory, and as a last-ditch officer in the case of a direct order from an HOS, then my ruling stands. Going, "I do understand the role of the warden, very much so" is not an agreement or an indication that you are willing to move forward with caution, especially when you acted out of place and multiple folks noticed. From the Wiki: "You are not a Security Officer and should not leave the brig if possible. However, you may operate as an officer shall the need arise, under the permission of your HoS." Basically, it's not your call. Also from the wiki: "...you can be helpful to your team by coordinating with officers over your radio channel, checking cameras when people call for help, and updating arrest records. You can also do roll call every so often, to make sure that the officers are still alive and well. You have the opportunity to make Security run like a well-oiled machine, but don't start acting like your boss." If you want to get in on the action, you should play a security officer. You shouldn't be carrying around a laser rifle. I've made my point. I'm not sure what else to say on the matter.
  12. I did not suggest that you need to identify if anyone is AFK or not, and I told you multiple times that your actions were perfectly reasonable with the knowledge that you had. I merely told you to be more wary of reacting to calls as a warden, check the manifest regularly to be aware of your coworkers, to play a security officer if you were interested in responding to calls consistently. However, you continued to argue it, and on top of that, I was told that you were hoarding rifles, and wouldn't let others have them. I'm not a sec player, so I don't understand the dynamics of that, but yeah. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt on that and not calling it metagaming or whatever. As a warden, you already have your own sidearm as far as I understand, so I don't see the reason why you needed a rifle. What really solidified the problem was your poor attitude. You proceeded to state that you would keep doing the same thing again in future rounds as a warden. I told you that if you kept doing it, you would get job-banned. Simply put, it didn't have to go there. A warden is not a security officer unless otherwise ordered, and there are many who will ahelp a warden leaving sec to respond to a call. I originally needed to confirm with you that you understood the duties of a warden, and that was about it. I was giving you the benefit of the doubt. It can be tough when to decide to act in an emergency situation as a warden, but the request is that you be more reluctant to leave your post in future rounds.
  13. I do not feel guilt when I have to shift the way I am approaching someone. Usually I take on what I call the "mom response" in my mind, where I am firm, clear-cut, and set the boundaries. I like to let people know I have faith in them, and let the person know they'd be welcome to come have fun with everyone else if they improve their behavior-- HOWEVER, they must accept the punishment for whatever it might be (unless it's overturned by another) and try again. I have seen greytiders become actual members of the community on /tg/ (Though the standard is much lower over there, admittedly.) But, I know sometimes you can't fix troublesome behavior, and you just have to give up and cut it off if the person insists on being constantly disruptive.
  14. Server Moderator Application Basic Information Byond Account: LilahNovi Character Name(s): Lilah Novi, Aelia Volvalaad, Nora Vincent, Millie Eidola AI Name(s): N/A Discord username + tag: LilahNovi#2506 Age:27 Timezone: Central Standard When are you on Aurora?: Usually between 11am and 9pm many days. Experience How long have you played SS13?: Around May 2015 How long have you played on Aurora: My guess is about a full year. How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: I feel like I know a lot. I can usually figure out most things pretty quickly. …Except engineering wires. Those things are possessed. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: I was a mod on /tg/ station for a little while. I resigned because I got busy, and then ended up finding a better server—this one! Have you read through the criteria thread; https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=4198 - and believe that you mark off all the criteria?: Yes! Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: I’ve never been banned! Personality Why do you play SS13?: I like to roleplay. Also the particular and detailed mechanics of this game fill a comfy, cozy part of my brain that many games never quite could. It’s very unique. Why do you play on Aurora?: While on /tg/, we had a second, more quiet server that was more rp-based (Until they put it on the hub and destroyed the culture. Oof.) I wanted the heavy rp environment with the fun, non-canon threat of dangers lurking. It checks off my wants for a spess game. What do moderators do?: They help the players with problems, and put people at ease with their presence! They know when trouble is going down, they can ahelp! What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: It means being kind, careful, courteous, helping people out with their problems, and protecting the game immersion for others by putting a stop to troublesome behavior. It also means asking questions for things you don’t know about so that you can better serve the playerbase. Why do you want to be a moderator?: When I was doing it on /tg/, I enjoyed it. Generally, I like helping people a lot. I also enjoy this community, and would like to help new people get their bearings. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: I’m friendly, and I’m good at approaching people without making them feel cornered! How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: I usually keep it to myself. I understand sometimes people feel freaked out or wronged, and it doesn’t work to start insulting them back or become mean. I try to see things from their point of view as best I can. You just have to be firm and calm when things start to get wild. Anything Else You Want to Add: (Do not put words here) I admit, I’m not very good at these kinds of applications. I apologize if any answers seem to miss the point. I just felt that I could be a helpful and good-natured member of the team and I remembered enjoying doing the work on /tg/. I’m a calm person, a hospital volunteer, and a housewife (I don’t know if that really says anything about me, you be the judge.) I feel like I have a lot of time for Aurora. I MAY NOT KNOW MUCH, but I want to do my best to help everyone have a nice time on the Aurora.
  15. I'm going to add that Chev was interested in the feedback that Pemander and I wanted to give and actively sought it out multiple times and hoped for our input in order to expand or improve said lore. We LIKED what he had and wanted to play with it, and he was very kind and open to our interest, as well as changes or suggestions we would have. So, to frame him as someone COMPLETELY UNWILLING to listen to any sort of feedback is absurd.
  16. I enjoy the lore changes, and think the lore is really interesting and a fun read. As well, my own character has enjoyed some development thanks to said lore. I was considering making a Vaurca myself.
  17. I was informed of this, yes. I don't really know how it works currently, as I haven't had a chance to play, but some people were complaining about it. Alb said if people made better suggestions, it might change, so I had some ideas, and here we are!
  18. In the medical world, overdosing is a common medical mistake made by both patients and doctors. Various medications have an extremely wide range of OD symptoms, from an upset stomach to confusion/behavioral changes to organ damage, or even death. It all depends on the medication and how much is in someone! So my ideas for making potential changes to Aurora's medicine system would be as follows: 1: Change the OD symptoms of the various medications to be things that are a little more fun or realistic, rather than just toxins. An example might be screen-shaking effects, or particular damage to an organ. 2: Give the OD damage a tiered system: Minor, Acute, Major. (or whatever else you would want to name it). 1 unit over the OD limit wouldn't cause horrible complications for the most part. Some medicines might have these tiers be a lot closer than others (for example, Peridaxon's OD numbers might be much smaller and closer together than, say, Tricord's.) Some examples of ideas might be as follows: Tricordrazine: On the wiki, this medication is stated as "originally derived from Cordrazine" which is a miracle Star Trek medicine that could stabilize patients (Tricord is also apparently a Star Trek thing). If you look it up, you find that one of the characters, McCoy, overdoses on it and has insane panic thinking killers and assassins are after him. Perhaps the OD could be severe anxiety or paranoia, into hallucinations, or something of the like. Spaceacillin: Penicillin + Antibiotics. If you look up Penicillin, "Overdose symptoms may include confusion, behavior changes, a severe skin rash, urinating less than usual, or seizure (black-out or convulsions)." Antibitotics are usually just a bad stomach ache, but with some, you could be looking at seizures and severe pain if way too much is taken for way too long. Perhaps the OD could be confusion, severe pain, or go all the way up to convulsions or black-outs. Bicaridine: Since it heals trauma (fixes bruises, bleeding, etc), I would think this could cause issues with the heart. Perhaps at OD, clots could be a problem, so maybe damage to the heart could happen, or even pair it with suffocation damage because the heart isn't working properly because of blockages. Perhaps the OD could be heart damage, suffocation damage, or even go up to cardiac arrest at major OD. Anyway, those are just some of my ideas. I feel that more interesting OD symptoms can easily be found by just being creative with the ways the medicines work. After all, too much of a good thing can hurt! The ODs don't have to be needlessly punishing, but having actual individual effects can make things more interesting! I can add more ideas later for other medicines as I definitely have a few, but right now I should be studying for a test. Tell me what you guys think and make suggestions yourself! Thank you!
  19. I like sean, and he's a good officer!! I think he'll make a great head of Security. +1 from me!!
